"Ordered Celeron D 2.53Ghz Step SL7NU from StarMicro. As with others here, they didn't get it right the first shipment. Sent CPU with no pins. Called Returns line and spoke with them. Explained what I needed, and told them I would scan photos of one I am replacing to ensure they get the next shipment correct. Did that -sent to RMA email. Second CPU arrive faster than the first. This time - it was correct. So far, works fine in the system. For those who were frustrated by this service, I completely understand. However, you can't expect too much when you are dealing with a company that resells pulls from outdated machines, etc. Basically, you take your chances. Since the price I paid was very good, I am willing to deal with a bit of inconvenience. To their credit, they credited my account for the 1st CPU very quickly, but I did have to suck up on the shipping the first mistake back to them."
"Fast (actually, super fast) processing + delivery. Best price, fast accurate service ... what else could you ask for? Would most definitely buy from them again."
"I am a hobbyist who repairs and builds computers. I have been using StarMicro for my memory and CPU needs because of their reasonable prices and free (over $25) shipping. I have only had one issue in recent years and it was handled in a hassle-free and prompt manner. I plan to continue to do business with them."
"Ordered an AMD Athlon 64 3800+ X2 on Dec. 17th and received it on Dec. 21 (there was also a weekend in between those dates) swapped out my old 3000+ for the new 3800+ and wha-la! booted right up and all is sweet running dual core now! Thanks Starmicro for the fast order processing & shipping! Will most definitely come back."
"Star Micro has provided generally poor service, including some business practices I consider unacceptable and deceptive. I ordered an Intel QX6800 CPU, but they sent a different CPU instead - one incompatible with my current motherboard and chipset. I returned the CPU they had sent via a prepaid RMA shipping label, but after receipt of my return they issued me a refund, without any prior notice or approval, rather than sending a correct replacement. Upon contacting Star Micro to find out why, they informed me that they could not provide a replacement for the CPU I actually ordered, even though that part continues to be listed for purchase on their site. More troublingly, they indicated that the original shipment was not made in error, but that they *intentionally* sent the wrong CPU, again without any prior notice or approval, because the CPU I had actually ordered was determined to be out of stock and unavailable. Not only was the CPU they sent incompatible with the one I ordered, but their sale price for the item they sent is half that of the CPU I actually ordered. The only reason I am not rating this transaction an overall 1 is that they did provide a prepaid RMA label, and issued a proper refund without requiring the intervention of my credit card company. However, I will certainly never attempt to do business with them again, and would advise all others against it as well.As a point of contrast, after completing this fiasco, I was able to purchase an identical CPU from a different, more reputable online seller (ZipZoomFly), which arrived quickly and exactly as described, in bulk (but not OEM) packaging with full 3-year warranty information, which is a major improvement over the 30-day warranteed OEM part offered by Star Micro. And I actually paid a price that was 1 cent cheaper!"
"You would think that a company that only sells CPU's and memory would know what they are doing. Well, you'd be wrong to think that. They can't even figure out ECC memory from Non-ECC. At first they admit their mistake and will pay for the return postage and then the next minute they are refusing to. I was suppose to get free shipping to begin with because my order was over $25. Did I get free shipping? No..I did not. They charged me for it. Did I bitch to them about it? No..I did not. So now I'm suppose to pay for return shipping, and then hope and pray I actually get refunded? As if. I should have just set the money on fire. This was my first and last purchase with these morons. This is what I get for straying from Newegg. "
"I have made many purchases at "StarMicro" through Pricewatch. All my deliveries have been prompt, the Price and quality of merchandise has "Always been excellent" A very good company to do business with."
"PRO: I ordered an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+ CPU (Socket AM2) from Star Micro just before Thanksgiving weekend and received it on 11/30/09, as promised.CON: Even though a "TESTED" stamp was imprinted on the the shipping document, the CPU does NOT work. Because I am in school and am working toward CompTIA A+ certification, I had several expert-level technicians take a look at my Acer desktop computer as well. While it IS getting power, it will not proceed to the POST. I am sending it back to Star Micro and requesting a new CPU. I hope a new one will do the trick. If not, I most definitely will take my business elsewhere."
"To potential Star Micro Inc. customers,My experience w/ Star Micro Inc. was unpleasant at best. I ordered a 250GB 7200rpm hard drive for a notebook computer and 2GB DDR SO-DIMM memory. To their credit, they did call to notify me that they were out of stock on the hard drive and sent me a 320GB drive - it was a desktop drive not a notebook drive as I had originally ordered. Further, the memory was DOA. I received an RMA, and returned the hard drive ($35) and memory ($30) in the same box. Star Micro Inc. gave me credit for the hard drive, but claims that the memory was not in the box and that I must have forgotten to enclose it. I have never forgotten to enclose items I was returning. In my 23 years with IT (US Army, NASA and my own business - Daniel's IT & Electronics Service), I have rarely encountered the level of support that I have received from Star Micro Inc.I was looking for a deal given the age of my clients' computers. In retrospect, I should have shopped w/ a tried & true vendor such as NewEgg. Their customer service and support is much better.Very respectfully,Daniel AntonsonIT Field EngineerHubble Space Telescope (HST) MaintenanceNASA – Goddard Space Flt CtrBldg 14/ Room E040CGreenbelt, MD 20771301-286-3701 (voice)301-286-0244 (fax)Daniel's IT & Electronics SvcWoodbridge, VA 22193703-498-8045 (cell)"
"Received fast, memory works in computer, tracking is good and packaging is very good."
"My 4th order from Star Micro, all completed to my satisfaction. All shipped on time and well packed. Good and descriptive WEB Site, what else to say... I'm a happy customer."
"I have purchased over a dozen cpu's from StarMicro over the last few years and never had a single problem. They have a great selection of older cpu's at very low prices."
"What a joke email I recieved today, would never buy from them ever again, here is my experience.Dear Robert T******,Thank you for your recent purchase. We appreciate the opportunity to serve you and look forward to working with you again.Customers are our best advertisement, so we encourage you to give us feedback on how were doing. If we ever disappoint you, hope you will let us know; we shall do everything to make things right. Please post your message at the links provided below:Complaint on SO#128914Robert T****** to support Hi, my name is Robby, I'm calling in regards to order number 128914. The cpu I ordered was labeled @ 2GHz. I recieved it today and found out that it is actually 1.66GHz. I understand that mis-labeling happens, and called up technical support to report it and see if there was anything they could do for me. I never once raised my voice, called names, or demanded anything. I politely told the representetive the issue, and asked if there was anything he could do for me. He told me that the cpu is a T5450, and i recieved a T5450. He could see it was mislabeled, but told me it was up to me to make sure of the clock speeds. He also had me look up the T5750 (the processor clocked at 2GHz) which shows for $125. I understand that an exchange for that particular one isn't possible due to the huge price difference but the representative said that and was rude about it. I would have been perfectly happy with being credited back shipping, or a discount on next purchase. I would like to continue to do business with starmicro because of the selection, its tough to find those mobile processors elsewhere for comparable prices, but at the moment i just feel cheated. Is there anything you would be able to do for me?Thanks for your time and you have a great day!Support to meWe apologize for that. You spoke to our representative who deals with the return material authorization and sorry there is nothing I can help you with.Thank YouRegardsSupportStarMicro Inc.Tel: 510-490-5566 x 100Fax: 510-490-5501AIM: cmstarmicroemail: email@example.com: www.starmicro.netRobert T****** to supportWould there be anyone who would be able to help me? I'm sorry for the trouble, I'm just hoping I can get this resolved. I am so disappointed with what has happened. Starmicro would make shopping for mobile processors so easy for me, but at the moment I don't ever want to order anything from you guys again. Nothing personal, its just wound up being a really bad experience for me and I am not being compensated. Thanks again for your time! Any help would be very much appreciated!-RobbySorry Robert. For all the returns he is the supervisor who deals. "My 1st order resulted in the fast delivery of the WRONG socket type CPU . This current order resulted in no shipment and was not informed about the back order until I questioned the status of my order. Poor performance so far and the CPU is still listed on the web site as available, yet 3 weeks have elapsed w/o a shipment,"
"Motherboard was DOA. Didn't even power up. Request RMA but only got a tech tip to try to reset MB and fix it. Something I have already did and even more. They claimed to have tested it before shipping it out. Alot of green marks on the capacitors. I don't believe it. Still waiting on my RMA. I will write another review when I ship back their MB and they ship me a replacement or refund my money back. I odered a MB Combo with CPU/Fan and 1GB of ram. CPU/Fan & ram is the only thing that works on the MB but eveything is USED. Not Happy! and this is the 1st time I have tried them over my usual order site because it was going to save me a few bucks. Should have known. Here is the update 11-10-09: StarMicro claimed to have tested the MB again and guess what? Nothings wrong with it, according to them. Instead of sending another MB. They issued a refund. I will never use this company again. They don't even deserve 1 check mark. They need to come up with a negative rating system. I hope you read the reviews before buying."
“We are sorry that our customer is unhappy. We usually test the Motherboard before it is shipped out as it is even more difficult for us to handle RMA for motherboards. Moreover the shipping is also costly hence we make sure that the motherboard is tested before it is shipped. If you have already been issued RMA # then we will take every step to fulfill our customer's desire.Thank you”
