"I ordered brake pads, they sent the wrong ones. Because I wasn't able to get to the brake pads until after the 30-Day window for returns, they told me that I'd have to pay to ship them back and get the correct brake pads. I kindly asked that they pay the return shipping, because it was their mistake for sending me the wrong part. They said no. I asked them it if was worth losing a customer, and he wouldn't answer the question. It amazes me how terrible customer service is becoming. Never buy from rockauto.com"

"I've ordered from these folks 3 times now and they have yet to ship parts that fit the specified vehicle. While the prices are good, the waste of time and money for returns and reships are inexcusable. The customer service reps vary from intelligent and helpful to clueless and rude. All in all don't waste your time with these folks- there are so many other choices- and while you might pay literally a dollar or two more, the time you won't waste will more than make up for it."

"I ordered an Airfilter at Rockauto.com for my car. I specifically put in the yeear make and model of my car. When the air filters arrived, they didnt fit. I called rockauto and they insisted it was my fault. They are willing to give me a full refund except I have to pay for shipping back, which is around the same cost of the air filter anyway.

They are so rude and unprofessional. I mean, it was good when its good. But worst when its bad. If this is how to run business, I'd rather pay $5 extra to shop at amazon. I do not want amazon to monopolize everything, but rockauto customer service is non-existent. DO NOT SHOP HERE! save some time and trouble. Find other online car part dealer.. again I'm going to say it again.. I talked to Dave and he didnt even want to give me his employee number or anything. Just Dave... Rude and unprofessional."

"I can recommend rockauto.com, with a few cautions. They are kind of like newegg.com of the autopart variety. I've been buying from them for years and most of the time, they do not disappoint. Usually, their total price, including shipping, is lower than any local store, and for a better quality part. Speed of shipping is excellent. Depending on which warehouse is used, you may get it the next day. One time, they did send me the wrong part. This can happen anywhere, of course. I was stuck waiting for the correct part to be shipped to me. So, if you absolutely cannot afford not to have the right part on a certain date, I do not recommend buying online from anyone. You could get the wrong part, or lost/damaged in shipping, etc. But, if you are planning a project and it is not as time critical, you can save a bunch, and get better parts. I will use rockauto.com again and chances are, so will you if you try them."

"if you order a part and it is the exact right one and fits, it is good retailer to deal with.....now with the bad part of the review....if on occasion you order a part and it is listed in their catalog as "it fits your car" do not take this as the gospel, b/c many times it will not fit or work on your car....and then the nightmare begins, customer service is exactly how one reviewer said there to not give you credit, and they are difficult to deal with, managers(erin X271)even hang up on you mid conversation when you are talking....this is a company that will not make it right for you, so it is a case of penny wise pound foolish....there are other retailers that deserve my business...tom taylor, jim taylor and sandra taylor if the owners are reading this, take heed, i wanted to order from a family owned business, but the way you do business is not the right way...

eventually burned customers will not come back....fyi"

"RockAuto has gone downhill as of late. I will not be doing business with them any more. I recently placed an order for a catalytic converter with them. Two days later I get a call to tell me they are not in stock (which the web said they were). They suggested for me to order another brand instead which was in stock. Two days later, I get the same call. They switched me to another brand. I found the exact same brand on Amazon for 60 bucks less with free shipping. They would not match or give any concession for the run around I got and were rude also...last straw. "

"Im going to update this once my transaction completes...

Ok the transaction is completed.

The problem: I ordered 2 parts from Rockauto. The parts were defective. I discovered this within 3 days of installing the parts. I was well within the 30 day return period because I had received the parts the day before, installed them, knew by day 3 they were for sure defective, and called Rock that day. When I called, the person on the phone told me that because I installed the parts, they were not returnable. I then said "how would I know the part was defective unless I tried it?" Because 99% of the time, you cannot look at a part and tell its not going to perform. Anyway, the rep said they would get back to me. I did NOT have high hopes. But the next day, I had a pre-paid postage label in my email and instructions for return for a full refund!

I still didnt have high hopes. I was sure they would get the parts and give me a partial refund, or just dick me around enough delaying my refund that I'd eventually give up....

Nope, 2 days after they received the parts from me, I had a full refund on my credit card.

Did they do the right thing? Yes. Were they going to do the right thing at first, had I not put up a fight? Didnt sound like it.

My conclusion: You are going to save money buying from rockauto. You are also going to lose some rights vs. buying parts at a local store that generally have no questions asked return policies. Im glad Rock came through for me, and Im sure I will buy parts from them in the future but I will definitely use them as a last resort.
