"I hate to write this review because I love the stuff in their catalog but I had such a bad experience that I need to share it. First, I ordered about $5,000 worth of furniture for my new house in July. However, I never received any information regarding delivery. I contacted them to ask and they said they weren't sure when it would be delivered because they use a 3rd party carrier. (And not just one, I had stuff coming from USPS, a deliverer called Seco" and others.) I had to cancel the order because we were going out of town for a week and were not able to determine whether the items would arrive during that time. Second, when I did finally place another order in August, the shipments came unexpectedly (my husband was home, luckily) and in SO many boxes - I'm talking 4 boxes for EACH of my 6 dining chairs. Nothing was put together! (If I wanted to put things together I would've gone to Ikea!) I can't even explain how many boxes, styrofoam and plastic we had piled up in our basement and the three trips to the dump were annoying. Third, while spending our whole first week in our new house trying to put our furniture together, my husband noticed a large scratch in one of the desks but what were we going to do? Put it back into one of the 16 boxes (no joke, 16 boxes) that the desk came in? So, I'll live with the scratch. And fourth, I just received the catalog and all of my items are on sale (the Martha Stewart Lombard dining collection and the Executive desks). I would've saved $500! However, I called and they said they won't give me a refund because they only do that for 14 days after delivery. I asked if anyone could've told me that a sale was going to happen and she (the SALES lady) said, "No, we don't find out about those sales." Wha??? Unfortunately I can never order from here again. Good luck to all you ladies who fall in love with their catalog items as I did. It's a rocky road!"
"I ordered an artisan cabinet from Home Decorators in August 2011. I was pleased that the order came within a week. I was not pleased with the instructions for assembly. My main probelm occurred when trying to install the sliding doors (item #01690). Part #4 was bowed and would not allow the drawer to close or the doors to fits square on the edges. I had a gap of .75" at the top. I called to see if they could replace the part. I spoke with 'Jennifer', who said they had 40 of the cabinets in stock and would replace the part along with 3 missing screws. I called today (9/13/11) and spoke with 'Tia' who said they don't have the cabinets in stock and would try to ship the part after 10/25/11. I am very displeased with the product and the lack of honesty in answering my questions. I just read the reviews about Home Decorators and wished I had read them before ordering."
"Do NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!!! I, too, am completely, positively angry with Home Decorators Collection. They charged my charge card in June! I still have no furniture. They finally refunded $1107 of the $1277 charge! Almost 3 months later!!!!!!! I don't get how they can keep $170 for doing absolutely nothing."
"I wish I had checked reviews before ordering rugs from this company. However, seeing they are affiliated with Home Depot, I made the assumption they are a reputable company. They charged my card the day I placed my order. The expected ship date passed and I did not receive a shipment confirmation, so I contacted them to see why my order was delayed. They informed me that one of the items was delayed for another two months, yet I never received notice of this, and presumably would not have had I not contacted them. I therefore cancelled my order, and was told it would take up to 7 business days for the credit."
"I too had a BIG problem with customer service at Home Decorators. My story is similar to others here so I won't go into the gory details, but I think the only training their staff gets is how to say "I'm sorry for your inconvenience" because resolving a problem with them takes an act of congress. I did have a positive experience the first time I ordered, but the second time I ordered it was a nightmare. In short, I think if there's no problem along the way with your order, they rate well, but if you have any glitch along the way - be prepared to have a lot of your time sucked away making phone calls. Just a suggestion, don't even bother to talk with a customer service rep. Ask to speak with a supervisor."
"STAY AWAY FROM HOME DECORATORS!!!! I really wish I had read this blog prior to buying from HD. I have never in my life dealt with such incompetent people! I purchased a coffee table from the online store and the color was listed as "espresso". I purchased the table and was told that it would be shipped the following day. I then received an e-mail telling me that the table wouldn't be shipped for another month. I contacted customer service and they said the ship date wouldn't be for another month as well although everywhere on the website the product was listed as one that would ship within 24 hrs. The product did arrive within two weeks, but when I received it it was black. Not espresso like the website listed, but BLACK!!! It matches nothing in my home. I then contact customer service to have the product returned. I also told them that the product is incorrectly described on the website. A couple of days later, I went to the site to see if the description had changed. It wasn't. I was then told that I would received a shipping label and instructions within 24 hrs about returning the product. After waiting a couple of days, I then contacted HD since they didn't send me anything. I received the shipping label a week later. Part of the return instructions was to fill out the back of the original package label and place it back in the box. Why was there nothing on the back of the package slip for me to fill out? This resulted in another e-mail. I shipped the product back on 3/10. It wasn't sent until 3/21 which I guess is UPS's fault. It ships back on 3/21 and was supposed to be received on 3/28. I track the package on 4/2, and it's still in transit.????? I contact UPS, and they tell me that they can't do anything unless HD opens up an investigation. Great! Another e-mail...this is about the 20th at this point. I receive an e-mail back saying the product was received on 3/28 as originally anticipated;however, HD didn't feel the need to let me know. Ten days go by, and I have yet to receive a refund. I have to contact them again to find out when they are giving me my money back. You only get a response if you ask. It is the most reactive costumer service ever!!! Finally, I received my refund. Surely this is the end, right? No. They just sent me an e-mail telling me that my product was never received even though they told me they received it on 3/28 and gave me my return. I hate this store, and I wish they never existed. I'm really surprised that Home Depot is doing such a piss poor job with their customer service. Stay away, stay away, and STAY AWAY!!!!!"
"I wish I had come to this site before ordering. I ordered a file cabinet in January; now April and no merchandise. Company sends no correspondence but simply continues to extend the ship date when checking the status of an order. Got a courteous reply from customer service when inquiring about my order and requesting cancellation if they could not provide a ship date. In essence "we're sorry you're disappointed". No cancellation or refund. I plan to contact the CEO of HD to see if he even cares. "
"Don't be fooled by their fancy website and catalogs.....they don't stock most of their merchandise and you will wait MONTHS for delivery with multiple dates that will never become a reality. Customer service is nice to deal with on the phone but absolutely worthless in resolving this issue. "
"ORDERED CONTEMPORARY SET OF TWO CHAIRS MEDIUM OAK BORDEAUXMARQUIS FOR 159.00 PLUS SHIPPING OF 23.95. THE SHIPPING BOX SAYS STAKMORE. SAW THE SAME EXACT CHAIR BY THE SAME MANUFACTURER BEING SOLD BY COSTCO AT 29.99 EACH. THEY ARE SENDING ME A RETURN LABEL SO I COULD RETURN THE CHAIRS. GOOD COMPANY BUT WITH BAD PURCHASING DEPARTMENT. ALWAYS BE WARY OF THE PRICES FROM THIS COMPANY. I WILL BE FROM NOW ON. WILL UPDATE THIS REVIEW WHEN THEY HAVE FINALLY CREDITED ME BACK FOR THE FULL AMOUNT UPON RETURN OF THE ITEMS."
"Run far. Run very far. Home Decorators is the worst experience I ever had. Back on January 3rd, my mom wanted a new media cabinet with glass doors that she saw in one of the mass mailed Home Decorators Collection publications.
Being the good son I try to be, I looked at the item on their website at www.homedecorators.com that night and decided to buy it for her. Total cost with shipping and handling was $285.27. A week later she received the media cabinet, shipped via FedEx in a cardboard box. I went over to her house (I had dedicated the afternoon to putting the thing together), and commenced to unpack everything. I started assembling the cabinet and found the instructions quite easy to follow. (I have assembled many of these Chinese made follow-the-numbers type assembly instructions over the years so knew what to do). I got the thing 100% finished and I have to admit it looked nice. Except. Except the right door would not slide closed. It was stuck. I checked all of my cam-bolt connections and everything else only to discover the right door and the right support panel was warped! Warped just enough to prevent the door from functioning. I tried a few things to get the door to slide closed all to no avail. Mom was very patient as I pushed the thing up against a hallway wall, while promising to get it resolved.
Upon returning home I went to Home Decorators online and went through the process of ordering the replacement parts online. Everything seemed fine except 3 weeks went by and I heard nothing. I decided to call customer service and was told that the parts replacement order I made was not in their system!
I went through the process of telling the CS android what I needed and she assured me that the items would be shipped just as soon as they are available. She said to call back if I do not receive them by the middle of May! So I call Home Decorators (which is now owned by Home Depot), and the CS person told me that there was "a container in the U.S." but she didn't know where it was. She offered to take 50% off of the price if I accepted it as-is. I told her NO, I want the replacement parts you promised! By now my mom has now called 2 or 3 times gently asking about the status of the parts.
My conversation with Home Decorators today left me wondering whether or not I would ever get the parts. No promises. Nothing! I am spitting tacks here! I am ready to launch the stupid media cabinet off a 4-story building. And my poor mom! For God's sake!
Stay away from these hacks lest you also get burned! Shoddy products and slimy customer service!!!"
"On Feb 8, 2009, I placed an order for furniture in the amount of $1032. I was promised a $10 customer reward for every $50 spent, which meant I would receive a $200 credit. It was to be sent to me SOMETIME BEFORE MARCH 25, BY EMAIL OR US MAIL, and needed to be used between March 25 and April 8. I watched email and US mail for 7 weeks; on March 25, I left for Rwanda for 2+ weeks. I still thought I would be receiving the email or US mail certificate and had my daughter watching at home. Nothing showed up during the time I was away. I called the minute I had a US phone again (Saturday April 11, in the morning). I was promised someone would call me back Monday morning, but no one did. When I called back, I was informed that I'd missed the the window for ordering and they could not help me. They admitted that many people didn't get their emails (sent out, they said, March 24--though I have every other email they sent me, but not that one). Those people were required to CALL IN to get the reward certificate. I explained that I couldn't call since I didn't have phone service in Rwanda, and that I'd called the moment I returned. I explained that I think it is unfair to have a 7 week window in which you may receive information in multiple formats, and then to blame me when I don't phone them (because I can't) to ask why I haven't received the certificate. Wayne Ford, the customer service supervisor, was VERY SORRY but couldn't help me. This feels like a scam designed to make it difficult (if not impossible) for people to receive the rewards they've been promised. I will never order from this company again."
"Do not order from this company. I placed an order for four items that they said were in stock. I receieved one within two weeks and another one within three. Two the items never arrived and i was told that one of them was lost. I then cancelled one of the items and my refund which was less than i paid for the item. When calling to find out why they said because i cancelled that one item i would longer receive the 30 discount on the total order. So basically they come out ahead for their mistake."
"I bought from their outlet store paying at least 70% less for 2 bathroom vanities and a cabinet. They emailed at least 3X from confirmation to the progress of shipping. For the heavier vanity, a local shipper called for the date of delivery. All items came promptly. As for quality, they were mixed wood, wood veneers and MDF but very well constructed. Assembly was straight forward altho I had to use slightly larger screws for the cabinet door hinges since the ones provided were too short and tiny which likely won't hold long from constant use. The vanities came all assembled, just connect and add the fixtures. I didn't see any misrepresentation of the product. They were exactly as described on their site. I probably wouldn't buy from the main store w/ such exorbitant pricing. I do keep the outlet in my favorites. I'm leaving this positive review for the Home Decorators Collection "OUTLET" and NOT the main store itself. "

" It took hours to put together the cabinet, but it was well worth it. It's beautiful. I ordered this cabinet on 4/21/08 and I received it on 4/25/08. Super fast delivery. Excellent service! Excellent product! I will buy from Home Decorators again. Thanks!!"
