"Beware! When the price seems too good to be true, it most definitely is if you're dealing with DigitalElect.com. I thought I was buying a Sony HDR-CX550V camcorder at a very good price. After placing my order online, 2 days later I was called and emailed to notify me that they had to speak with me by phone to "confirm my order". Apparently, confirming your order is code for selling you "extras" that actually are supposed to be included with the product. For example, I was told that I needed to buy a rechargeable battery and charger for my camcorder because the battery that comes with the camera is a disposable one-time use good for only 20 minutes of recording (which means they removed the Sony rechargeable battery that comes standard on the camera and replaced it with a disposable). I also was told that I needed to buy a memory pack because although their website very clearly said that the camera had 64 GB of internal flash memory, the camera I ordered supposedly had no internal memory at all. I was also going to need the 2010 software pack to be able to record in HD, because the 2009 (also an extra charge, just less than the 2010) would not allow HD recording (which is very interesting for an HD camcorder). At that point in the conversation I cancelled the order. It appears that the reason their prices are so low is because they strip off all of the usually included accessories and then sell them back to you at a premium."
"This company baited me with the lowest internet price for a camera. I placed the order. They called me and stated this only comes with a demo battery and I could get an extended life battery and 30 minute charger at half price. I said add that to the order. I received the camera with regular batteries. The invoice stated I upgraded the battery and charger. I was charged $100.00 more than the advertised price because of the upgrade. There is no upgrade. It is the same battery and charger that comes in the box with the camera. This is a scam. I was lied to. "
"I had similar experiences with other reviewers. I wish I checked out these reviews before I made my Kodak z981 camera purchase. I will NEVER BUY from DE again.
First, it took about 20 days for me to receive my order (from the day I placed the order).
Second, when I called them to confirm the order, they made it clear that batteries and charger would not be included, so suggesting me to buy them along with the camera. Gladly, I had my own batteries, so I didn't have to become a victim of this scam because after receiving the package, batteries and charger were included.
Third, after trying out the camera, it didn't turn out the way I expected, so I called DE for a return. The return process was really painful. I was on hold approx 25 mins (the longest wait) till I give up waiting, then called them several times later to finally talked to the customer service. I had to get a RMA number before returning, which I could understand since many online stores are doing that. After receiving the RMA# by email, I had to actually sign the return authorization form and either scan and email or fax it back to them. By their saying, after returning this form I supposed to get the returning mailing label immediately. However, I waited for two days, called, left voice message, still didn't hear anything back. I finally talked to customer service again on the third day, he didn't commit that he received my fax until I told him I got the confirmation page...(duh~~I wasn't born yesterday). "
"DIGITALELECT is a classic bait and switch operation and I highly recommend everyone stay clear and save themselves a lot of trouble. I purchased a Sony NEX-5 camera and the price quoted on the website was nowhere near what I ended up paying. What are standard accessories become expensive extras at DIGITALELECT. They claim that they sell discounted products but by the time you get what you need like batteries and memory cards plus outrageous shipping costs legitimate sites are cheaper. Be warned, stay clear!"
"Terrible company All they do is lie to try to make the sale or make another sale. I placed my order on December 3rd. I called to confirm my item was in stock. I made it very clear that I needed my item by the 14th. They said that it would take 2-3 days to process and 5-8 days to ship for an average of 10 days and that while it might be close it would arrive on time. On the 5th I called again and asked if my order had been processed, they said it had and it would ship that day. On the 7th I called again and asked if my order would ship. They said it would ship that day. On the 8th I called and asked if I could cancel my order and was told it had shipped already but there was no tracking code. Late on the 13th now I got an email informing me that my order had shipped. Only now, 10 full days after I placed the order has it finally gotten out of their warehouse. That is pretty bad for something that was supposedly in stock and was promised to have been shipped twice 7 and 8 days ago.
Each time I called the company assured me that everything was fine and that things would arrive on time. They also tried various scams to sell me overpriced batteries or memory cards.
Much of this companies public relations excuses hinge on it being a warehouse seller. What about being in the warehouse direct business involves lying?
I will never EVER use this company again. All they do is lie.
***edit
too good to be true, moments after posting this review I got a call saying they had shipped the wrong product. They offered to reship the correct product or recall and cancel my order (YES!)
Will be waiting to see if my credit card is credited but as of right now I am very happy. I wonder if they read my review? "

"Digital Elect sells you supposed "upgrades" that are standard items and then charges WELL above where their true value is. I bought a Nikon d3100 that was supposed to be $569.00 and was sold on "extras" that I later found out were standard on all Nikon d3100 cameras (the battery and battery charger they sold me were included and not really upgrades) and the high speed memory card was nothing special and I wound up getting charged $400 for $40 of extras after much research. Customer service (maybe the owner) is surly and I was put on hold for several minutes when I chose Customer Service. When someone answered they said I had dialed another department and made me wait several more minutes for Customer Service. They would not do the right thing and let me keep the camera for the price advertised. And I found it $10 less at another retailer online and was told they'd match other prices. But they insisted that I send it back and wanted me to pay restocking fees at first until I cancelled payment with my credit card."
Their website is THE WORST e-commerce site ever. tried to purchase an equipment, they said i didn't finalize an order for i didn't select "Firmware Upgrade". the website never flagged me to select them. it's a crappiest e-commerce website EVER.
the customer service is TERRIBLE. instead of trying to explain the scenario, the representative kept yelling "READ WHAT IT SAYS"
i read what it says. it says "RECOMMENDED and UPGRADE". it should've said "REQUIRED and INSTALL" unreliable website, RUDE rep. What camera doesn't come with a FIRMWARE!? and upgrading firmware is FREE. http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/eos_60d#DriversAndSoftware
forget buying from here. it's not much of a deal either. might as well purchase it from elsewhere and pay extra $. so not worth talking to the rep.
He tried to give me ONE TIME BATTERY?! and yells "that's what comes in the box" what the HECK! he's gonna give me couple AA Batteries?! look at CANON USA http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/eos_60d#BoxContent
DigitalElect: you have an "F" rating. stop making excuses that you offer a lot less price then competitors when your quality of service and product is actually a rip off."

"F rating from the BBB - http://www.bbb.org/new-york-city/business-reviews/photographic-equipment-and-supplies-retail/digitalelect-com-in-brooklyn-ny-113050/
DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SITE! As many other reviewers have said, they advertise a very low price which even with their ridiculously high shipping charge still seemed like a good deal. I thought it was interesting that my confirmation e-mail included no detail on the order, what was ordered, pricing, etc. As others have stated, in a few days they sent me an e-mail asking me to call and verify the order. They said there was a duplicate order, and asked if I wanted a battery as the one that ships from Canon was a "demo" battery. They even told me that this claim was based on Canon's information so I went to Canon's website and could find nothing to confirm their statement. They will try to sell you a battery at a much higher cost than MSRP.
Somehow these guys maintain a high vendor rating despite the repeated negative reviews. It looks like they have found a way to scam the ratings as well.
Oh yeah, and the shipping cost is ridiculous - about $30 for standard ground shipping on a camera, yet it was a full four business days before they even contacted me about the order. Most legitimate sites would have already shipped the merchandise by then.
Also, I see that they reply to a lot of these complaints by referencing the "policy" from their website. Nice try guys, I checked your website and although you certainly do have several ridiculous policies the "white box" statement you keep bringing up is NOT one of the policies on your web site. I have the print screen to prove it.
Maybe you can order from these guys and just turn down the "offers" when they ask you to call and verify the order, but I was way to nervous about whether what I received would be what was advertised so I cancelled my order and will NEVER deal with these guys again. I advise you to find a more respectable company to purchase from as well."

"I should have read these reviews before buying a Sony digital camera. Had the same experience with the firmware mumbo jumbo and the extended life battery. Not very pleased with the verasity of the package offered on their web site. Not many sites say they will call the buyer with the final purchase price, this is a red flag. The whole deal was an upsell exercise and dealing with rude sales reps. Never again for DE. "
"They will try to sell you an extended life battery, and quick charger. Do not buy from these crooks. You will receive the normal battery and charger. They have gotten hundreds of people with this scam!
"I am not going to make any judgements here only stating the facts. I placed an order for Canon G12 at a great price $389 and another $20 to ship. On 11/24 I recieved an email stating that they needed to talk to me about the order. I called and similar to other customers, they told me they had a duplicate order, tried to sell me a battery (for $80+, while the actual Canon Battery is $40) as the battery provide is a one-time 30 minute one, and asked whether I wanted the 2009 or 2010 firmware (this camara was released in 2010), I told them the 2010 firmware. At this point i was told that the total is $518, when my calculations it would be around $418. I asked him to repeat it and he confirmed $518 (389 for the camara, 20 for shipping, 50 for the firmware, 8% for something) the math never added up. I cancelled the order and am still waiting for confirmation. When I complained about the battery, I was told that it is listed on the web site. It is not on the website. When I complained about the firmware they said it is listed on the check out. It is not and I have a screen shot showing the total with shipping. The Company is using a vague discription to justify this but saying the items are "packaged differently" IS NOT the same as expressly saying that you will not have a battery (even when battery pack is listed on the page) and that the firmware is NOT included. UPDATE 11/25/10: The cut and paste company response did not address any issue raised. The company advertises low prices without disclosing that you are not going to get the real product you are seeking. A camara without firmaware is a just a peice of plastic, no mention at all that you dont get firmware, no mention that the battery is junk and the one that you sell is 100% more expensive than the what Canon sells. You have misleading claims on your site and are further misrepresenting yourself here. "

"This website is a totally waste of time and energy. They offer you darn cheap prices on their camcorders and cameras but total fraud and scam. I had ordered a camcorder which came up to $376 including the $17.95 shipping charges. It clearly indicated that it inlcudes the battery. After 4 days I got a call saying that we need to verify your order. So, your total price comes to $440 including the battery and insurance. When i asked them why to charge for battery when you already say that it is included, the guy said, no it is separate and everyone has to buy the insurance. Then I canceled my order after 4 days. Please never ever try to buy from them. Total waste, fraud and scam."

I ordered a camcorder which comes with Battery, This site also says that it comes with Battery Pack, but after placing order I got an email with a number and asked me to call to proceed the order. After waiting for 25 min on the call(toll number), I got some one who explained me how they sell this product with "20-Min Battery" and it would not work out of the box. They offered the Battery with high prices and when I asked them if I could cancel the order, they immidietely agreed and canceled my order before I say second word. Its totally waste of time. Please don't order from this site."
Like everyone else, I was allured by the cheap pricing of this website. Considering they have "not so bad" review rate here, which I doubt those posive reviews have been forged by the staff of this website. I decided to give it a try. I called them before hand to make sure the battery comes with the camera, a salesman with depressed voice confirmed that. But as all you can imagine, 3 days after I order, they called me.....then the sterotype old story comes again, first they ask if I dupicate the order since I made the order twice, of course I said no. Then they ask if I need the rechargable batter......I'm sure all you guys have been tired of this same story. Then STOP being deceived by them, or your own cheapness. IT's not worth it!!!"
