"During spring 2007, I purchased a bike carrier and trailer hitch from etrailer .com. After only one weekend camping trip, the hitch bent to the point that the bike carrier was nearly dragging on the ground. When I contacted etrailer .com with news of their equipment's substandard performance, I was disappointed to discover that etrailer.com did not stand behind its equipment. etrailer.com invited me to return the defective equipment that I had purchased--but only at my own expense! In my opinion, that is hardly the position that a respectable company should adopt.

Worse yet, when I returned the hitch, etrailer.com took the liberty of deducting outbound shipping and a 20% restocking fee from their overall refund. Thus, I ended up netting $33.14 in return for a hitch that originally cost $159.95.

In conclusion, if you are looking for bike hitches or other auto accessories, I DO NOT recommend etrailer.com.

In my experience, etrailer.com sells defective equipment, and etrailer.com has little concern for the cost or inconvenience that it causes its customers.

"Let me begin by stating that etrailer had a lot of good information on their site, that's why I ordered from them, however, I would NEVER ORDER ANYTHING FROM THEM AGAIN! I placed an online order through etrailer for a new brake controller, 12,000lb ball mount and a 14,000lb, 2 5/16" ball. I placed the order in late May and the items did not arrive for 3 weeks! When I opened my box of items, I found that the trailer ball had not been secured for shipment. It had just been placed in the box next to the brake controller box and just rolled about during shipment. Naturally, the ball had crushed the brake controller box. The ball mount was another story. It had no identifying mark or stickers! I had no information, on the item, other than the receipt, that stated that this ball mount met the supposed 12,000lb limit. This was of great concern to me. Should I trust the lives of my horses on equipment that, at this point, could have been made in China? I decided it wasn't worth it, even though I had waited for nearly a month for this stuff. I wanted to return everything. I called etrailer to complain about the poor packing of my items, the lack of identification on the ball mount and for return authorization. The operator was less than responsive and literally could not comprehend why I needed any information, stamped or otherwise, on the ball mount. She actually argued with me and kept insisting that SHE could just look up the information in her computer, i.e. weight limit. I could not make her understand that this was a safety issue and that without this information, the ball mount was defective. I explained that any stranger should be able to come along and know, by reading on the ball mount, what the weight rating was. This woman was "as thick as a brick" so I ended up talking with a supervisor. We discussed my concerns and he decided, reluctantly, that they would accept the return, but that I would have to pay for the return shipping! I made the return and etrailer ended up charging me for half of the return shipping cost. I think their equipment is suspect and their customer service is terrible. Live and learn, never again!!"

"Not a good experience. Placed an order for a hitch and received email notification 2 days later that it should ship within 7 days. It did not ship as of 2 Weeks later and no notification was given. I wasted my time with these people and wasn't able to use my trailer for vacation as planned. Look somewhere else for your hitch."

"Hitch is shipped in cardboard box with no packing material. So when you recieve it, the box is torn up and the mounting brackets on the hitch are bent (the backets bend surprisingly easy). You call etrailer and the guy you need to talk to is always "away from his desk" or "not in the office". so he calls you back when its convenient for him, not you. He gives you the measurements that the mounting holes should be, and instructs you to bend the backets as needed. Once you think you have it bent correctly, you crawl under your car and partially install it, just to find out that it needs slightly more modification. So you uninstall it again, bend and bang on the hitch some more until you finally get it right. So the 15 minute install that the web site describes, turns into several hours spread out serveral days involving several phone calls. So apparenty, I ordered a bend-it-to-fit hitch. "

"Christmas weekend and snow was coming. I drive a 98 Corvette and had already experienced one day of spinning up the one hill on the way to work. I ordered a pair of chains on-line, only to find out they were out; apparently everybody and their brother was getting ready for that same storm. The polite and helpful young woman at etrailer, found me another set and got them to me the next day ... just in time for the coming storm. Great job, great product, my Vette is wearing them now! Thanks, again!"

"Thank you Cristy for such marvelous service with my recent order.
First of all, it was great to talk to a real person without going through a lengthy phone tree process. Second it was wonderful dealing with someone who was knowlegable about my automobile and could assist me to find the products necessary to get it ready for towing. And lastly, everything arrived today undamaged and on time. The installation process begins tomorrow!
I have one comment about one of the products however - I found the price of the front mounting brackets to be high. The rest was reasonably priced."

"janice at etrailer was amazing!! we had placed our entire thule order with a different company but they were out of 1 piece. etrailer personally found the piece for me, ordered it and got it to me as quickly as possible. when the original place never responded to ship out my original order, i immediately wrote to janice. and now have the entire kit! cant wait to use it. great customer service. highly highly recommended.

also. need to get an additional part. janice is always quick to respond and super helpful!

best customer service ive received in a long time! "

"Great Service!
I ordered my hitch on the 2nd and it arrived on the 4th! Installation took less than an hour and it fits perfectly.
Service and parts like this are rare. Great work etrailer!"

"I purchased a Hidden Hitch for my sister in laws 2009 Scion tc. The representative on the phone was courteous and helpful in ensuring I had everything I needed. I also purchased the plug-n-play trailer wiring kit that made the instalation quick and painless. Start to finish 1.5 hrs! I would use and recommend etrailer.com to family and friends without hesitation."

"THe people were friendly and helpful both times I called. I love being able to see the instructions on the website before I order it. THe Curt hitch and wiring harness I ordered arrived quickly and went on just as easy. The instructions were spot on and just had to follow the steps. "
