There are really no scenarios under which anyone should purchase from AJ Madison. They do not work with the customer to make sure you are satisfied, instead there is blame and threats of taped calls that place all ordering mistakes solely at the customer’s feet. They rely on offensive measures because they are at fault and are defensive about it.
In April, I called to inquire about ACs, and the salesman (Al) was very affable. I didn’t care about cost; I just wanted a very cool room. I explained that I lived in an older building and had regular outlets (the ones used for lamps and computers) he assured me that his recommendation fit this requirement, so I placed my order over the phone. It shipped very quickly and when I opened the box I saw that it wasn’t 110 but 220. Unusable.
I called and after several attempts, long waits, and transferred dropped calls I finally got to customer service. Instead of exploding and screaming at the lady, I politely said that “we” have a problem, meaning that I have an AC that doesn’t meet my requirements and that I wanted to send it back and get one that was 110. She told me she needed to have another department send an email. Ok.
The email outlining how to return an item was a shock. In order to return the item I needed to pay $300.00 in shipping plus 15% restocking fee (assuming I order thru them again or 30% if I don’t). That would have been more THAN half the value of the original item.
Why would I pay that if I trusted the knowledge and experience of the salesperson to fit my requirements? I am not returning it because I made a mistake, but they did.
I was appalled at this and followed up with customer service (again) who claimed to have me on record admitting my mistake. I asked on more than one occasion to hear my admittance and to hear the original tapping of my order placement that would clearly show that I was very specific about the voltage. They never could play it for me.
I’ve engaged my credit card company and the better business bureau, to no avail. It simply comes down to the salesman’s word against mine. NOTHING was in writing, so my credit card company doesn’t have any leverage; even the disputes manager called AJ Madison and was appalled by their unprofessionalism. Also because I didn’t return the ac with the week I never can. So more hot summers for me.
Buyer beware."

"I ordered a washer and dryer from AJ Madison as from what I had seen they were a reputable merchant with some of the best prices. The items were listed as in stock and I expected prompt delivery. As it turned out, they did not have them in stock, so when I called I was told they are arriving and will be shipped to me the week after.
I wish they would be upfront and tell you whether the item is really in stock and when to expect shipping.
I am ordering from appliancesconnection.com that I have had good experience with, plus they have free in-home delivery."
"DO NOT ORDER FROM AJ Madison! As soon as you place an order, they will tell you that the item you ordered has been discontinued. after that they will offer you a similar replacement which is either older or worse. the replacement will cost more than you can buy it in SEARS."
"I recently spent $5,000 with AJ Madison on kitchen appliances. One item had factory damage. Noa in customer service was helpful and response and dealt with us by email. We were very happy with the prices, which were the best, and by the excellent customer service."
"AJ Madison is not a good company to deal with. My father passed away on the same day as the shipping company wanted to deliver the diswasher. I asked the deliver company if they could hold the diswasher for us because I was already at the airport getting ready to board the plane going from Dallas Texas to Detroit Michigan. The shipping company wanted to deliver the diswasher NOW, the shipper thin said I would have to pay $25 a day for storage! I tried working with AJ Madison on this issue but was informed shipper has policy that AJ Madison has no control over. I thin said please cancel the order as the storage fee's would be $400! After about 10 emails from AJ Madison the shipping company said they would drop the charges if I could product a death certificate. Because of the money already spent I had no choice in the matter, but I do have a choice going forword. DO NOT BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE... YOU'LL BE SORRY..."
"ditto other negatives. WE should have read reviews first. OUr first and last time using AJM. tracking says item was shipped from day 1 but no tracking info. I called and was told item was on backorder till 31st. Should have been told up front. It is now 11 days later and no "person" to talk to. I was not sent tracking info as promised. I called at 2:02 pst today, friday, and get recordings they work m-f. 3 of us took days off work next week to drive 10 hours to install in moms trailer in the middle of desert but we have no idea where unit is, when it is coming, or even shipped. We Need it in 3 days to get parts first. If I could get unit elsewhere faster I would have my Credit card cancel this order, but for now I am stuck. LG cannot tell me where unit is or been sent either. NOT HAPPY"

"I bought a Summit 108-bottles wine cooler. It was delivered quick and professionally. I never contacted their customer service so I would not know about it."
We ordered a high-end Viking gas stovetop from AJ Madison on 11/15/2012. We received the stove on 11/28, even though we'd been assured we'd receive it on 11/23. The stove was in good condition, but after installation was nearly complete, we realized that one of the grates was incorrect. The stove has 3 grates - left, center, and right. Instead of a right grate, there were two left grates. The left grate does not fit on the right side, so the company essentially sold us an incomplete product. We've only been able to use 3/5th of the product we bought (2 of the 5 burners are not usable without the missing grate).
We immediately contacted AJ Madison to report the issue. They told us that the part was back-ordered for 3 weeks. After countless calls to AJ Madison's horrible customer service (and lots of time wasted on hold), it's now 12/18/2012 - more than a MONTH after placing the original order - and still no grate. Every time, AJ Madison assures us that they've requested rush delivery from Viking directly to us, but still no grate.
We've told them that if they're still selling the stove (yes, they are: http://www.ajmadison.com/cgi-bin/ajmadison/RDGSU2005BSS.html), they need to stop blaming the manufacturer, and send us the missing grate from one of the new stoves they're still selling. They say they can't do that, but clearly they just don't want to.
We will never order from this company again, and are regretting not having bought from our local appliance shop. "
"I have never dealt with a more unprofessional company. I purchased a built-in Summit wine fridge and paid extra for "white glove delivery". The delivery guy plugged in the unit as that is part f the service. He and I immediately noticed that the unit was unusually loud and is problematic. He suggested that I give it some time to see if it settles. Within 24 hours, I contacted AJ Madison and they told me that it could not be returned because it had been installed! I didn't install anything and their delivery guy plugged in the unit. After many emails and phone exchanges, they said they would accept the return only if i paid a re-stocking fee and delivery charges! i finally just agreed and three months later, no refund has been issued as of now even though I no longer have the unit. I will never do business with AJ Madison and I recommend looking elsewhere to all of you. p.s. I ended up getting nice wine fridge that was less expensive and better quality from Wine Enthusiast."
"I spoke to Noa in Customer Service today stating my concern that my refrigerator and cooktop order is still " in transit " after I was told twice that it was being shipped out and would be delivered in 7-10 business days when placing my order on November 11,2012. I had to phone again before Thanksgiving because the refrigerator and cooktop still hadn't arrived.. I was then told that I should be able to track it. When I said that it shows only "shipped" , a rude individual shouted that it takes 24-48 hours to update the tracking site but that the estimated date for delivery was Dec 4, 2012 . I asked what happened to the order arriving before Thanksgiving since I ordered on Nov 11 and she was extremely discourteous in stating that orders take 10-14 business days. Well here it is Dec 4 and apparently it is still in transit! The same lady, apparently her name is Ricki, stated she couldn't (wouldn't) help me and that I needed to call the trucking company to get a delivery date . Well of course that number didn't work because the order has not arrived yet here in Minneapolis, MN. The "supervisor" that I spoke to at customer service today assured me that she would look into my order and phone me back. At this time I have not received a phone call nor e-mail as to where my order is and it has been 3 1/2 weeks! Not impressed at all and very frustrated! I let her know that if I didn't get an answer today, I would be posting this on their website reviews and have heard nothing, so apparently it is not a concern for AJ Madison.
I have had an extremely positive experience from ordering to tracking to delivery of double wall oven from AppliancesConnection. I should have kept my order with them for the refrigerator and cooktop, but the cooktop was on backorder there so I wanted to order both LG appliances from the same vendor to get a better discount. Lesson learned! Their team members are so much more courteous than AJMadison."
"Absolutely the worst customer service I've seen. We ordered a refrigerator and before it was received we called to change the order. Customer service told us that was fine and we only have to pay for the shipping (even though the order was not delivered yet!) and no restocking fee since we are getting the same model with different door configuration.
However, later we received an e-mail telling us they regret about our decision to return the goods and that both shipping and restocking fee would be charged. We called again and the cust. service rep was extremely rude and yelled at us saying they wouldn't waive the restocking fee unless we made a new order for a price $230 higher (same as the restocking fee).
We asked to speak with a manager and they said they didn't have a manager. Then they said the do have a manager but wouldn't let us speak with her.
We were planning to order three more appliances from them but after this incident I would never even look at them again."

"I have purchased and had delivered in good order twice from AJ Madison. Viking outdoor grill and a Bosch oven. I have just placed a large order from Adam at AJ. One item is back ordered from the manufacturer but received prompt notification and chose an in stock substitution. We expect delivery at the end of the week. I tend to think that some of the complainers probably should shoulder some of the blame for poor communication and bad attitudes when dealing with online retailers. Deal with one person, get their name, and most times they will help you solve your problems. Unfortunately, damage sometimes happens in shipping. Try using a little sugar with your contact person and you will be amazed at the results sometimes. I give AJ Madison and Adam, my sales consultant, five stars for professionalism, service and price."
"I am another victim. I ordered 3 items for my newly purchased home(fridge, stove, and hood-microwave). I had very specific items that I wanted and have to admit, price-wise/selection-wise they looked great. They had like 4.6 out of 5 on google so I figured they are okay. I paid the extra $99 for "white-glove" shipping and placed the order... and waited... The items sat in the NY warehouse for a long time. Not a huge deal, but somewhat frustrating. About 3 weeks after the order was "filled", the items shipped to a local distributor/delivery house. They brought the items into my home. I looked over the cartons for signs of damage, and not seeing any I signed off as I did not have time to unwrap them that second. The stove and microwave were great. Unfortunately, the fridge had a big dent on the door, right on the seam near the handle. I contacted them the following day as it was after business hours with the details. I received a prompt reply via email asking me to send pictures of the damage. Sent the pictures/serial# as instructed... and no reply since... which was about 3 weeks ago and have tried repeatedly to contact the e-mailer... no response. Glad I paid an EXTRA $99 to get damaged goods. Don't think I will be back, and unless you like to gamble you should not use them either..."
"Have to admit, that I did not read the review on this web site before ordering. As there were quite a few negatives, I was hoping for the best.
I ordered 2 Summit appliances at competitive prices and free shipping: Microwave SCM852 and Refrigerator FF7BBISSTB. Items were shipped via YRC. Items arrived 9 calendar days (5 business days as Thanksgiving was in the middle. ) Both boxes were received in very good to excellent condition. Product inside boxes were in excellent condition and worked.
No complaints here."
