"This is the 2nd order I have placed with Zenni Optical in 1 1/2 years. I love the quality and I love the low prices. I always get compliments on my glasses and when people find out the low price I paid for them they are shocked and want to know where to order their own. I highly recommend Zenni Optical to everyone. "Stylish plastic frame (#232025) with 1.67 high-index single vision lenses, plus anti-glare coating, totally cost me $53. Thanks to Zenni’s free shipping promotion, I didn’t pay for any shipping fee. Received my glasses yesterday, adjusted the nose pads slightly and had the doctor double check them. He said that everything was perfect and the materials that Zenni used were top of line! So happy with the service and the product I received from them!"

"I ordered January 2 of 2012. Their site did not ever update, my package still says "processing" even though it's here in my hands. Other than that everything went according to plan. I have my glasses two days before their estimate which makes me happy. What makes me even happier is that I can see excellently from these glasses, they have next to no reflection with the anti-reflection coating(very noticeable), and I got two pairs for just over 50$. Both pair have excellent fit and finish quality with no noticeable imperfections in either pair(even though one was only 6.95) Even though I took no time to measure my face width or temple length(although I did of course have a professional measure my PD), both pairs I randomly selected fit well, I'm not even sure I'll have them adjusted. I received my order after 12 days, quite good considering the product is manufactured in China, shipped to California, checked, and then sent to you door(assuming US order)Many people mis understand what shipping takes place. Customs CAN hold an order for up to thirty days if you are unlucky, explaining the occasional upset person who waited forever on their glasses, although its not the norm. No other site can match their prices, BBB standings, overall quality and dedication of service.

When my order never got past the "processing" stage on the website I called into their customer support. I had read the reviews online of zennioptical customer service and prepared for the worst. When I called it was near lunch time, and I was one of 2 people in line. I waited on hold for a couple of minutes before being greeted politely by an employee. I explained my situation and they assured me that the package would clear customs any day and ship to me. That's exactly what happened the next day and they did not try to give me the run around in any way.

The frames appear strong and flexible, even the really cheap frames. I grew up with glasses and I've had the name brand nike "flexon" unbreakable glasses for many years growing up. I have experienced that left in a pocket any pair of glasses can and will break over time at the bridge. Anyone whose glasses break at the bridge are probably flexing the glasses regularly at the welds near the bridge, one of the weakest points on all glasses. I've gone through countless "expensive" name brand pairs of "flexon" flexible titanium due to keeping them in my pocket and after six months of abuse they break right in the middle like any other pair of glasses. Zenni optical does not offer an inferior quality pair of glasses, but if you treat them like you paid 20$ for them(which maybe you did) don't expect them to last as well as the 400$ glasses you put on a silk pillow every night before bed and always kept in its case when traveling. If you treat a pair of Zenni's well they will give you years of service like any pair of glasses.

I'm very satisfied overall with my experience, and if you're glasses are taking forever just look at the BBB ratings and take heart in the fact that they will try to take care of you, they have a vested interest in doing so.

Edit 1:
I also placed an order with Coastal Contacts to see how they compared to Zenni Optical. My order from Coastal took only 7 days to get to me, vs 12 for Zenni Optical. The only down side is the the single pair I ordered from Coastal was not polished properly on one edge(along the bottom edge) and so the entire edge of the lens is perfectly polished and clear except for one white spot where the plastic is still rough.(easily visible in other words) The prescription was spot on, I think the rims look excellent and feel strong. Their reflective coating seems to reflect a bit more light than Zenni Opticals coating.(more noticeable reflections on the coastal contacts pair) Also the coating used by Zenni has a purple reflection/tint and the Coastal Contacts reflects green/tint so from that you can tell the coatings are different, and if you prefer one color reflection vs the other there you have it.

Overall that left me a bit dissapointed with Coastal, because their price would have been "much more" if it wasn't for their "first pair free" program. Since the pair was free, I only paid for coatings and shipping, still just over 20$ so no savings compared to Zenni even with free frames. The standard index offered free by Coastal(1.5) is also slightly thicker than the standard index offered free at Zenni(1.57) resulting in thicker lenses, and the cost of higher indexes are also poorly matched with Zenni being much cheaper.

The 6.95$ pair I ordered from Zenni on my original order was intended as a "backup" pair, but overall their fit and finish is nicer than the "expensive" pair from Coastal. In fact I even find the cheapo frames fit more comfortably(nearly weightless), so if the pair I'm wearing starts to bother me from sitting the same way too long I can just switch to the cheap "spare" pair and keep working in comfort. I was more satisfied with my order from Zenni(even though it took longer) than I was with my Coastal order, because of the overall quality of product delivered and the price and service I can expect in the future.

One last note in favor of Coastal is that their glasses case they send is nice looking(especially next to the cheap Zenni shell case) and they even send a keychain mini screwdriver(flathead + phillips) that you can keep with you in the circumstance that a screw does begin to loosen unexpectedly. Their package was nicer, with more advertisements, if they had gotten the workmanship on the lenses right I would have suggested them over Zenni for the accessories and faster shipping time.

Edit 2: I contacted Coastal over the issue of the lens via email, and the customer service rep did offer to reimburse the price of having the lenses professionally polished. I may or may not end up taking them up on that offer as it took three days for them to get back to me(on the site it states you will receive an e-mail within 24 hours and "most likely much sooner" which was not the case in any way) I'm not too interested in reimbursement shenanigans as getting them to honor a receipt could be a pain, and there's the turnaround time and the lack of BBB accreditation. But they did offer, and I would be lax not to mention this as it at least indicates the existence of customer service."

"I purchased a pair of retro frames for 6.95 plus added 10% pink tint , that was 12/29 it is now 1/14 besides the shipping time the glasses are beautiful more expensive looking than I expected an extremely well made , I wasnt expecting much but for 16.95 these glasses would have cost over 300 at vision works where I normally shop . This is my first time ordering glasses online and I will do it again but I will pay extra for faster shipping . My glasses are everything I wanted and more , I am very pleased and surprised . The glasses are made in China and shipped to California then shipped off to you , that is why the long wait but I can say for a Chinese made product it is very well made and no adjusting or corrections needed . I will certainly buy more glasses from zenni and possibly start collecting glasses since the price is so cheap ."

"I ordered two pairs of single vision glasses on January 10th. I had some questions about different PD's for each eye and tried the "Live Chat" option. The women who spoke with me was very helpful and friendly. After confirming my order, I read some reviews about Zenni. While most were highly rated, some were disturbingly negative. I also ordered glasses off of Coastal.com. I am conducting a comparison of sorts to determine the website I will be making my future purchases. Coastal was a bit more expensive, but also offered a "First Pair Free" discount. I was informed they have shipped today so perhaps the more expensive trait is also covering the quick shipment. I will be updating my review once I have received both pairs. I very much hope my order will exceed my expectations!

*UPDATE*
I received my Zenni glasses today, 16 days after I ordered. After reading negative reviews, I was worried about the prescription being incorrect. Both glasses are perfect. I can see just as clearly with them as I can through the glasses I had which cost upwards of 300 dollars. The delivery was fairly long but I don't see room for anyone to complain about that when the price is so drastically different than if you were to not order from Zenni. I was also conducting a comparison between Zenni and Coastal. Both exceeded my expectations. Some benefits of Zenni is the lowest prices I have found available online and there are ALOT of frames to choose from. Coastal, didn't seem to have quite as many styles of frames but their delivery time was about a week. The glasses do end up costing more than Zenni. All and all, I will continue to order from both in the future. "

"OK, the price was right. Under $50 for rimless bifocals, but six months later one lens cracked in a line leading to a screw that connected to the nose bar. Then it completely broke off at that corner.

I contacted Zenni, but all they would offer was a 25% discount on a reorder of the glasses. I contended that there was an inherent defect in the manufacturing of the eyeglasses, but the representative told me that after five months they would not be able to tell if it was a defect or something else (in other words, blaming it on me). I consider that ridiculous, even offensive, as it was entirely evident that the there was a failure in the material.

Consequently, due to Zenni's stand, I will not buy another pair of glasses from them."

"I ordered 2 pair of glasses from Zenni on 12/6/11 and received then on 12/16/11. Since I had cataract surgery 4 years ago, my prescription is mild (0.00 sph, -0.75 cyl and 0.25 sph, -1.00 cyl), so I expected no problems. I got a pair of bifocals for computer and reading (+1.25, +2.50) and a pair of polycarb progressives for general wear. Both prescriptions give me exactly what I expected and the prescription appears fine. I am 20/20 both eyes open without glasses and 20/15 or slightly better with.

Since I had good results, I decided to order 2 pair for my wife. She has a much stronger prescription, at about -3.00 sph, -2.00 cyl. We got her one pair or polycarb progressives for general wear and a pair of 1.61 single vision sunglasses. Again, She is very happy with the prescription and can see as well with her $50 Zinni glasses as she can with her over $500 designer glasses from the optician at the optometrist's office. She wears the new Zinni ones around the house and for general outdoors and her designer ones to go out to dinner or to the mall. If she needs a prescription change next year, she plans to buy new glasses from Zinni instead of spending nearly $400 for just 2 new lenses. She ordered her glasses on 12/16/11 and received them on 12/30/11. That is 14 days, including Christmas. Not bad for an order produced and shipped from China and then shipped across the USA to us.

To be fair, there are 2 caveats. Her designer glasses have beveled and polished edges and extra cost 1.0 mm thickness. That accounts for $36 of the nearly $400 for 2 new lenses from the optician. Also, one of my frames did not lie flat on the table, but I was easily able to bend them where the temple piece attaches to the lens frame. I do not really consider this a defect, as the optician has had to do this for even $160 frames that I have bought there.

I have just ordered a fancier pair of progressive polycarbs for me with Titanium frames. Cost less than $80. All orders with free shipping. Hopefully they will be as good as our first 4 pair.

Edit: I just got my titanium frame glasses. They fit perfectly without adjustment. I had to adjust the other 4 pair some to get the fit right. Just checked my vision. It is 20/13 with either these $80 from Zenni, the $50 from Zenni and the over $400 pair that I got nearly 4 years ago from the optician at the doctor's office. That is this morning and I was 20/15 without glasses, so my vision is just a little better this morning. If all the frames last for at least a couple of years (hopefully much longer since my prescription doesn't change) then I will be happy. My wife needs a prescription change every year or 2, so it will be Zenni for her from now on if the quality continues to be good. There is no reason to pay nearly $400 for her just for new lenses to put into the existing $160 frames. We also got her just a frame to see if she likes it for her next pair. Just the frame costs 1/2 the listed frame price, so you can try some of the lower cost frames for little money."

"At this point, while ZENNI's prices are indeed low, I'm not impressed with their speed of service, OR their billing practices, OR with the accuracy of execution for a given Rx, (or perhaps I should more accurately say their so far entirely absent, "quality control").

Speed of Service:
Order placed 11/21/2011, received 12/09/2011. This is actually within their stated time frame for other than single vision glasses, but barely, so in that respect it's accurate, but slower than some other similar price point online providers.

Order Billing policy:
Order placed 11/21/2011 and billed same date, yet the order wasn't RECEIVED until almost 3 weeks later, (via First Class Mail) on 12/09/2011, BEING POSTMARKED ONLY 3 DAYS EARLIER. This is something that many reputable businesses would not do-as waiting until an item is at least being shipped before billing it is a MUCH more equitable business practice.

Accuracy of execution of Rx:
This is the big problem area, and it's a multi-faceted one, involving both the original shipment and the subsequent RE-examination of their product upon it's return (if that was actually done is highly questionable at this point).

Upon receipt of the pair of LINED bifocals that I'd ordered from Zenni on 11/21/2011, I promptly tried them on, and while the frames were correct in color and size (I'd spent considerable time measuring and choosing them)and the fit was as close as I'd expected it to be from the specifications on their website, I immediately noticed that something about the close correction part of the lenses (the lower, flat-topped rounded section) was not correct-although the base lenses themselves(the upper and outer edge sections)of the lens were good.

The RANGE of focus for the close correction was simply too small, resulting in an inadequate depth of field at near distances, in the heavily-used "desktop, computer screen and dashboard" distances that the correct prescription covers much better.

Since my prescription had changed SLIGHTLY from the previous one and ZENNI's glasses were the first pair for the new Rx that had arrived, I took Zenni's eyeglasses to my eye Doctor's office to have them verified for accuracy. The Doctor's office technicians checked them TWICE on their AUTOMATIC state-of-the-art lens testing machine (the Reichert AL500) for accuracy compared to the prescription that had been provided for them when ordered. This prescriptiuon is the same one that the Doctor's office had written about a month earlier while also doing a complete, in-depth eye health examination, not simply a "quickie" vision test for eyeglasses.

(NOTE: My eye Doctor does not have a "dog in this fight" in re. selling glasses themselves, because they absolutely KNOW that they do not currently have a set of frames available that I like the fit of and they even recommended that I look elsewhere to find better fitting FRAMES-as long as the Rx was correct!)

The Reichert AL500 test results for the lenses clearly show that the close correction portion of the prescription (the ADD) is ground incorrectly in both lenses, with a 2.25 instead of a 2.00, and the AXIS measurements show an off-axis error of 6 degrees(R) and 5 degrees(L). (This machine measures to an accuracy of .01 for ADD and to a single degree for AXIS.) The Doctor's office staff corroborated that this would correspond very well with what I had observed while wearing them.

I returned the Zenni glasses via First Class Mail the next day, 12/10/2011, along with a copy of the test machine's tape (which is automatically self-printed out). The tape also includes the date of the testing and the machine's Brand name and model number.

(I should take this opportunity to say that their shipping of glasses in a hard shell case tucked into a bubble-cushioned envelope is good, actually better than many First Class items that I have received in the past from other sources.)

On 12/22/2011 (10 days later) I received an email from Zenni, claiming that "the glasses have been manufactured correctly", and asking if I either wanted to get them back or wanted to get a 50% refund.

Now, I understand that a USA delivery of glasses which are manufactured in CHINA includes the necessity of having to transit the ocean after manufacturing and that this takes time, but the time element is the least of my concerns (with this pair) as ZENNI's pricing is so low and the frame fits my requirements.

What I DON'T understand is how these particular plastic lenses could so precisely change their individual prescription specifications during that ocean voyage so as to NOW be "correct", when they were incorrect in not only their ADD measurement, but also incorrect (to a lesser degree) in both lenses AXIS measurements as well-when they were returned to ZENNI.
I also don't understand why ZENNI does NOT have an adequately staffed or adequately trained QC inspection department, (either domestically or at point of origin, or both) equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, something which could intercept incorrectly ground lenses before they were ever shipped out. The cost savings in not having to replace and return incorrectly made glasses (and in lost future sales stemming from unresolved problems with incorrectly-filled orders for that matter) would likely MORE than pay for itself at the volume level of salesthat ZENNI has.
(BTW-I checked and the lens testing equipment used to test my glasses is approx. $3000 at list price (in US dollars), and that it can be found on sale for less at a few places on the web. Even at full list price, this would hardly be considered cost-prohibitive for an operation with Zenni's volume.)

I have sent a reply email to ZENNI indicating that neither of their proposed remedies are fair to me nor acceptable, as this was completely THEIR error.

If Zenni ultimately decides to redo my glasses correctly, I will be more than happy to add that information to this posting (and possibly change some of my comments on QC) and will change my selections for individual and overall rating scores to reflect any developments that may happen subsequent to this posting, but for now my ratings will accurately reflect the current status of this order.

Update: Order was ultimately redone.
A Zenni rep contacted me by phone about 2 days after the abovere view was posted. The rep repeatedly said that it had originally been done to their tolerances, but that they would be redoing th eglasses on a rush basis. 2 weeks later the glasses came in and their previous manufacturing errors were not replicated this time. The testing machine report says that his time the lenses are spot on the Rx.
I'm fairly likely to give them another try based on the second pair. "

"I just received my seven, yes seven, pairs of glasses from Zenni optical. I saw the website and couldn't believe the price. I am VERY happy with my new glasses. I entered my PD wrong and was promptly asked in an e-mail whether or not I had done this on purpose. The issue was clarified and the order was manufactured the next day. I got 7 pairs of glasses for about 55.00 with shipping. I'm still stunned I'm used to paying at least 100 for a pair.

Each pair came in a hard case wrapped carefully in protective film, with a soft cloth for cleaning.

I can't say it enough, I am thrilled with my new glasses and will be recommending them to others."
