"worst service I have ever seen. Customer service guy is a liar. Said the parcel was shipped, it was not. Very disappointing situation, very unreliable.

I do not recommend this company and will never place an order with them anymore."

"UPSforLess is a CANADIAN-based business and will charge your card with a CANADIAN merchant account, incurring a separate 0.8 to 1% surcharge that shows up as "VISA Single Currency Fee"

They deliberately hide this fact on their website, and make it appear as if they are a US-based business, with a New York based warehouse and prices in US Dollars. When I called to inquire about this, Andy Masdorakso, a supervisor, attempted to shift blame to my bank (really Andy? My local bank just pulls "VISA" fees out of their ass?), tried to downplay the problem, was rude and evasive, and did everything except what he should have done: APOLOGIZE for the deliberate deception on their part and look into getting the website updated.

The fees are minimal but the deception is a red flag.

UPSForLess has lost my business until their website and checkout process clearly states that they will charge you with a CANADIAN merchant account and your bank will charge a surcharge for this. They know it happens, yet they deliberately hide this fact from their customers."

"Upsforless.com doesn't disclose that you will receive an incomplete product. All software, manuals and cables are not included, which are important for accurate price comparison and running the unit. Only consider purchasing from them if you already have these components from a previous purchase. And ignore what they say about a new box; that just isn't the case."

"I ordered a APC SmartUPS 1000VA XL Extended Runtime Tower UPS Refurbished (SU1000XLNET.

This bad boy will run my rig, including a large 27" LCD and a 19" LCD for about 35-40 minutes. I payed $229 for it + about $50 for shipping (61 lbs!). If I ever want more time, I could just buy additional batteries (up to 10 of them!) and they just plug right in. If I got just one more battery, I'd get well over 2 hours of time!

I ordered on May 5th and got my order in about a week. When I first ordered, I chose the slightly less expensive model (750 VA). I realized that my rig could pull more than 400 watts it was rated for under stress, and that this would cause the battery to constantly drain and charge, which would shortening its life. I called UPSforless the next day. I was impressed with the customer service, he allowed me to change my order to the larger unit, giving me the choice between making a Paypal payment for the additional balance, or giving him a CC number.

When I got the unit, I plugged it in and it worked. I tested it after letting it charge and it keeps my rig powered no problem; in fact, with everything plugged in except my z5500 speakers, I am not even drawing half of its capacity.

The only con I feel I need to point out is that the UPS did not come with the Serial cable you need to plug it into the computer (they say you need a special one-- just any serial cable won't work). You can order it separately for $14 though.

All in all very satisfied; highly recommended!

EDIT: It is September of 2009 now and the UPS is still going strong!

EDIT # 2: April of 2010 and this UPS is still working perfectly (just tested) with the same batteries and daily 18+ hours use!

EDIT # 3: March of 2011. Still going strong! I have occasional power outages during the winter, and this hardy UPS hasn't failed me yet! Great product. UPS4Less did right by this unit. There's no doubt I will use their services again. "

"Very pleased with upsforless and will check them first for all furture refurbished UPS purchasing (believe they only sell refurbished units). Ordered 3 APC 700 VA smart-ups units - site warns ahead of time that they have cosmetic blemishes, and this is true as one is discolored yellow, another has dents in the top of the metal case, and the third has the lable abraided -- so I wouldn't buy these if you plan to make your UPS a showcase item -- but if you're going to put it under your desk where no one will see it, these are GREAT. All three units worked perfectly and take a 100% full charge quickly and everything is working perfectly. Paying 1/3 of retail for these three units, I saved over $500 compared to new and as long as the cosmetic appearance doesn't matter, these are a great bargain. upsforless shipped within 3 days or ordering and was fast, responsive and friendly when I asked for tracking number - ordered on monday and recieved via fed-ex ground on saturday.
