"Funny story, kinda: I bought a lot of three golf shirts on ubid "auction." I was surprised to find that the shipping charge was not $12 for the lot, but $12 PER SHIRT. WHAT? Okay, live and learn.
But then the shirts come and they're ugly -- virtually unwearable -- and not at all the nice-looking shirts shown on the "auction." Okay, live and learn. Never again.
And then I get a SECOND box with 3 more of the same ugly shirts. Concerned that my card would be charged twice, I emailed ubid customer service to explain that I only bid/bought once.
They responded quickly, equally concerned that I had product that I hadn't paid for. They told me to stand by and they would give me instructions for returning the second batch of shirts.
Now assured that I wasn't being charged twice, I emailed them back saying I would be glad to return the unordered shirts at my shipping rate of $20. Per shirt.
I heard nothing more.
Please take my advice: Stay away from Ubid. The slim chance of getting a good deal is not worth Ubid's cheesy ripoff policies and incredible shipping rates.
Yeah, I got six shirts in the above case, but they're now ugly garage rags. My only other purchase with them went just slightly better."
"They have a third party shipper and tech support and repair service. They wrongly stated that the shipper is FedEx when actually it was UPS. Had to pay $45 for shipping something that should have cost less than $35. Not very reliable. The Add said Windows XP Professional, but the laptop shipped with Windows XP Home edition installed. There was no license for Windows XP Professional (only the CD). The laptop had hardware faults within 10min of opening the package. If I had to return, it would cose $$$ for restocking fee, if I wanted to repair it, shipping was on me and again the return was at inflated rates."
"Purchased a MP4-5 Player on 9/5/2011. Tracking number given was incorrect. Sent a number of emails to Ubid with no responce Attempted to contact them by phone. After being on hold for 45 minutes I gave up. I have no idea what the status of my order is or if my purchase truly exists. Word to the wise!!! Other more reliable sites exist. Never use Ubid. Prices are a sham."
"I am outraged! Last night I bid on auction at Ubid
Hewlett Packard Pavilion 520C Athlon XP 1600+
Since I was willing to bid more for the item- I followed the bid process until it expired. No other bids were posted and the auction closed on time with me as the winning bidder. I counted down the seconds until the 'auction closed' page appeared using the refresh button. The auction was not extended.
About 10 minutes after the auction closed- I logged in to 'my page' and the item appeared under 'Closed Winning Bids'. My page explicitly stated that I had successfully won the item.
This morning after not receiving the win confirmation email- I log into 'my page' and now the item is no longer posted under winning bids... it now says I lost the auction to another bidder. I am flabbergasted!
I contend Ubid defrauded me by canceling my low-dollar bid. Watch out... the fix is on at ubid"
"I WAS SKEPTICAL!!! But after much research, on a Saturday evening, I bid on and won a Panasonic DMR-ES46VS DVD Recorder / VHS Combo @ $139. I received an email confirmation the same evening. Shipping confirmation was received just after mindnite Sunday(18 hrs later)-- pretty efficient, especially considering it was a weekend. Received the product within the week via ground as stated (original manufacture's box, accessories and warranty) in excellent condition - was double boxed. Shipping charge was clearly stated at auction ($27) and charged as quoted = total $166. Saved so much bought 2 year extended replacement warranty to start after the manufacturer's 90 days ($39). Total cost $205 for highly rated DVR good for replacement through mid 2009 that's running $260-400+ today. Registered product w/ Panasonic and it works like a charm. I will buy from UBid again without hesitation."
"I have bought tons of computers/laptops at Ubid. I used to get great deals but recently noticed the bidding & winning is getting ridiculous. There is a name for it regarding bidding..use your imagination. WATCH out as they post 90 day manufacturer's warranty. This is listed on 99% of their auctions. Odd..but recently I received 4 computers from them, HP to be exact and 2 out of the 4 came with dead keyboards. Called HP and they said the computers are "OUT OF WARRANTY". I explained I purchased from UBID and received these just 2 days ago..Sorry out of warranty. So in that, I decided to check a few of the laptop serial numbers..called HP..NO 90 DAY WARRANTY. Ubid as of late seems to falled to the wayside and the same bidders each and every day outbide me ALWAYS..ODD..Stay away from the game.."
"I have purchased a refurbished lap top for $1000 almost $200 less from the original price for a new equipment. Felt like an amazing deal. But when the laptop arrived, I was shocked to see a piece of junk with full of scratches in the body and screen. I asked for a return. The customer service was bad. She said there will be a 15% restocking fee. I said the item is defective. She said scratches cannot be considered as defective. Finally I send the item back to Ubid asking for a full reimbursement. After 2 weeks I got the reimbursement after deducting 15% restocking fee. Eventually I lost $150 + $45 original shipping (That is too much for a fedex ground as return shipping with $1000 insurance cost me only $25) and the return shipping ($25). Finally lost a total of $220 for not a mistake of mine. I tried to save $200 by buying this item in Ubid and ended up paying an extra $220. Never ever I buy anything from Ubid. They are real cheats. Go to the store get the new product when there is a deal. U will have mental peace and lot of satisfaction. The bottom line is STAY AWAY FROM UBID....THEY SUCKS!!!!! "
"Don't be an idiot like me! Avoid Ubid! I have purchased many items, mostly computers and electronics from Ubid over the past few years. A couple of times I got a good product at a great price but too often the item is damaged or incorrectly described. I mean out of 20 purchases, approximately 6-7 had problems! Customer Service has made it so difficult to get problems corrected in the past that I literally decided it wasn't worth my time and aggravation to complain about a computer I just bought that, judging from the writing on the box, was returned by another customer because it was broken and then they sold it to me! Aside from selling me a broken returned item, they have sold me other broken and damaged items, and several items that were advertised as having features that they do not. I have learned to check the specifications on the manufacturer' s website. Funny, when I point out that Ubid is advertising falsely, they don't make any corrections. Obviously they don't care! What a bunch of idiots! No, I take that back, I am the idiot for buying from Ubid again after having so many problems in the past. The lure of "getting a deal" was very strong and got me to Ubid many times but overall I would have done better to pay full price from a reputable seller. Whereas you could sometimes get a bargain at Ubic, they now have an automated feature on their auctions where if the ending price is low they extend the auction past the end time and continue to do so until the price is high enough for them to make a good profit.Of course they won't admit to this practice but you can watch it for yourself and be the judge. I have watched this "overtime" feature carefully and it only kicks in when someone is about to get a bargain on an auction. So now there is really no reason to go to Ubid. Prices are better elsewhere. Service is better everywhere. Shipping is less elsewhere. Ubid is just shady."
"Horrible! Do NOT buy from these hacks no matter what the price. Read their fine print, if it says "refurbished" and "very nice condition" that may translate to very, very, very poor condition, unusable and the product is one its last legs about ready to break.
Here are the bullet points from my experience: Late shipping, did not send me everything I ordered, product was totally scratched up (described as "very nice condition"), and service reps were rude.
I needed a cellphone. I found a good price on one at uBid, it was described as a "very nice refurbished" Blackberry with a charged & usb cable.
I needed ASAP, so I paid the extra $30 for overnight delivery. I ordered it Monday morning.
On Thursday, 4 DAYS later, this horrible experience started to unfold. The packaging was pathetic, someone threw it into a USPS overnight envelope. They forgot to include the USB cable, thus, they did not send everything I bought. Then, I inspected the Blackberry, this thing looked like someone climbed Everest with it, deep scratches on the screen & gouges on the body of the phone. Seriously, this phone looked like someone used it very hard for about 2 years. It was far from "very nice condition." Scratches on the screen??? How could anyone in their right mind claim this was in "very nice condition?"
I called customer service on Thursday, and was told they would contact the seller to get me a replacement phone that was as advertised. I was told I could expect an e-mail from uBid. Monday morning, no e-mail, so I called uBid.
When I called uBid acted as if I had nothing to complain about. I told the rep the phone was not in "very nice condition" and the description was dead wrong. The rep then told me the phone was listed as "used," and proceeded to read to me what "used" means under the uBid contract. Essentially, "used" means the product has minor bumps and scratches. I told the rep the phone has scratches on the SCREEN making it unusable, this is a major scratch. Then I said the phone was late in shipping, it came after I needed it, the phone came incomplete, and it is a piece of junk. She didn't care. The gist of what she said was I bought it used (nevermind it was listed as "very nice condition"), all bets are off, caveat emptor sucker!
Finally, I said "I want my money back." The rep's reply is that I have to pay a 15% re-stocking fee. So, I'm out $30 for "overnight" shipping, $30 re-stocking fee, I'm mad because they did a bait & switch and used fine print to stick it to me, and I still don't have a phone.
I'm not going to fight them, I rather spend time with friends & family, but I do want you, the potential uBid customer to know these guys are horrible. Please, learn from my mistake: Do NOT do business with uBid."
