"I have been a customer of the Tire Rack for over 20 years (no kidding, I bought my first wheels/tires in 1989) and bought probably 15 sets of tires and 4 sets of wheels from them. All a good experience.

Now in March 2010 I am writing to say that, sadly, they have majorly slipped in customer service. The sales team customer service will bend over backwards for you, but if you have a problem after the sale, good luck. I had one tire bad on a set of 4 new tires and rims and have had an unbelievable run around. As of this writing, I still have no resolution and a set of 3 tires/wheels. The level of communication via phone & especially email is incredibly slow and not helpful. Part of this is the returned tire & wheel is in Delaware and the customer service is in Indiana. You would think they are in China. The only thing I can say is; if you have a problem, good luck, you will need it along with lots of time and patience. "

"Although the prices were great, the return policy is not. When my tire, which has a 5-year warrrenty from the manufacturer and had almost no wear from only being a couple months old, blew out on the interstate, I emailed tire rack to inquire about warrenty fulfillment. I was told by Alice at TireRack, basically, it was probably my fault somehow. But even if it wasn't, they weren't going to help me. She told me to find a local tire dealer and try to get them to replace it (!). That's not how you do business, Tire Rack!"

"I guess Tire Rack is going downhill. The site is still good and selection and prices are quite good too. But I was amazed how little they care about the customer. I've ordered tires on September 12 (it was back ordered but they said ETA is end of month and suggested to order anyway) - it's now first week of November. And I still do not have the tires... I understand there is an issue with supplier but the main problem is how they treat me as a customer - no updates whatsoever and then I contact CS (Brandon) they just say - no ETA. Replies are one line and I feel like they just want me to cancel my order - which I'll do - I need tires for the winter - not in spring."

"WOW!

I placed an order for new rotors and pads for my vehicle around 3pm on a Tuesday. The guys at Tirerack had my order on a UPS truck that night, that truck must have driven 1,200 miles straight to my house because I was putting the new rotors and pads on my car by 11am the next day. I don't know how or why it got to me so quickly, I paid for standard ground shipping (3-5 days) but I'm not going to complain.

Their prices were good and the shipping/handling charges were reasonable."

"First time ordering tires online and it has been an excellent experience with Tire Rack. You save on taxes but you have to pay shipping. I got a set of 4 new Goodyear tires with $40 mail in rebate. Along with the tires, they also include the mail in rebate form. The tires were delivered to my designated installer within two days and I got my rebate check in 4 weeks. I am very happy with the entire ordering process. "

"I ordered a set of set of winter tires yesterday that were "in stock" according to the website. I received an email shortly after with an estimated ship date of 11/23. Today I received an email saying that the tires were not actually in stock and that the tires wouldn't be available until the second week in December. I spoke with customer service and they informed me that this was "just an estimate". However, they did have another tire "in stock", but it was going to cost $44 per tire more. I believe they call this "bait and switch".
Customer service seemed annoyed that I had a problem with this. I canceled my order. Needless to say, I won't be shopping with Tire Rack in the future, and I'd recommend you think twice before you do. A good deal isn't always what seems. "

"This is my first time ordering from the tirerack and I'm very impressed. Not only can you search for all the tires that will fit your car, but you can also see reviews of the different tires by other people and also the individual tests that tirerack has performed on each tire. When placing your order, they also check to make sure if your tires will be compatible with your rims/car. On top of all this, they have the best prices anywhere and they'll even point you to local tire installers in your area. Top notch!"

"Tire return agreement.
This order was for a purchase of replacement tires because the first tires I purchased were not satisfactory. I called to complain and the cust. srvc. rep told me that I was inside the window for satisfaction returns ( 45 days ) and could choose another tire. But they would only pay for the installation of the new tires or the shipping charges for the returned tires, my choice. I chose the shipping charges, since the intallation charges were 150.00 for first installation ( using their recommended installer), I figured shipping would be less. I shipped the first tires back and waited. After 2 weeks I received notice of credit for returned tires, but nothing on the installation credit. I called cust. srvc. and was told, now that I received credit for the tires they would go ahead and release the credit of the installation. Great, I thought. No sooner did I hang up the phone when the cust. svc. rep. called me back to tell me that tire rack would only pay for $80.00 of the $150.00 invoice. With no explanation other than thats what it said on the file.
Granted, a $70.00 difference isn't a lot but why sour an otherwise very good experience. This was my first on line tire purchase. Why not tell me this difference when offering the choice of install or shipping charges. Deceptive aggreement ? I think so.

"Like someone else said Big Brother Syndrome, I ordered tires, brake parts & ATE Super Blue Racing brake fluid. If you don't know its a very high quality DOT 4 fluid that lasts 2-3 years vs 1 yr for normal fluids. They said it was illegal in the state of Florida. Ended up buying from a major internet "bookseller."

Besides that I have ordered various times from The Tire Rack and never had a problem. My items are always promptly shipped, and at least relating to tires and brake parts, they only sell top-quality goods. I had to deal with customer service and they changed my order quickly over the phone.

I want to follow up. I had a problem with some of the brake parts I ordered and they were very helpful with their technical department and exchanging the parts with very little hassle."

TimJoines, Tire Rack rep has responded

“Thank you for your comments. ATE Super Blue Racing Brake Fluid, due to its blue color, cannot be registered in and is not DOT-approved
for street cars in Florida. It is not legal for street use in Florida. We should have simply offered you this information and let you decide if you wished to still purchase the item. While I think we would have been in error not to let you know about the unusual regulation, we should not have denied your purchase.

I am glad to hear that the other aspects of our service have worked well for you.

"This was my second purchase from TireRack and it was my last. First experience was great; however my latest experience has been disappointing. I ordered 4 Michelin Hydroedge tires and took them to my local installer. I live in the country, so TR does not have someone local. My local installer uses a Hunter GSP9700 balancer. After mounting 1 tire, they called and said the tire was out of round and did I want to go ahead with the remaining 3. I called TR and spoke with Leslie and she said to have all 4 mounted; I did. All 4 tires were "Out of limits" according to the machine so I called back and spoke with Lynn who said to drive to an approved TR installer. When I got there (Meineke), I was told they did not have a machine as advanced as the one at my local installer, but he would look at the tires. He rebalanced them and agreed; they were not round and told TR that. TR refused to take the tires back at this point and told me they needed Michelin's approval. Katrina from TR was supposed to call Michelin and get back with me, she never did. I called once again and spoke with Theresa and she called Michelin. Michelin told her to have me go to a local dealer to have them verify the fact the tires were defective. I went to the place Michelin said, and was told they really weren't authorized to do the warranty work for Michelin. I have made 4 calls to Michelin and might have the issue resolved, no thanks to TR. In short, the savings on tires was not worth the running around I had to do to get 4 good tires on my car. I will work with local shops in the future, better for the local economy too."
