" I like to experiment with differnet vendors from time to time in my ongoing effort to compare price, quality, delivery and support. Ordered a 60GB MAXTOR HD from The Computer Center that I had gleaned on Pricewatch. Received package promptly, but due to an unforseen personal tragedy, my computer repair sideline was put on hold for several months, and the drive sat in inventory. Upon finally opening the box in January, lo and behold, it contained a paltry 428 MB *SEAGATE* drive! The customer service department fellow was courteous and I think honestly tried to make it right, but because the shipped item # didn't match the shipping record, he was stuck between a rock and a hard place. I abhor venting on powerless front-line canon fodder like him and resigned myself to eating the loss. In my experience, escalation of intractable problems like these is an exercise in frustration. I suspect that either the shipping department is staffed by overstressed incompetents or there is poor oversight with malicious comedians operating down there. In any case, I wouldn't recommend these folks unless they get their act together. I give The Computer Center a BIG TWO THUMBS DOWN rating . . . If I had known about RESELLER RATINGS a long time ago, I would have saved myself a lot of money by making an informed assessment before blindly experimenting with unproven vendors. So goes the world . . . hindsight is always 20/20. :-("
"Ordered 5 hard drives at approx $10 less than anyone else. Their page said instock, but after failing to get any sort of shipment verification after 3 days, I send an email that went unanswered. Finally on 12/4 I called (toll#) to ask status of order and was told the units 'just came in' and order would be shipped. Still no sort of email was sent, so the following day I called again and was given a tracking number. A few days later my package arrived and was as advertised and packed well.So, this company seems reasonably legitemate, but they need to improve their e-commerce system to update you on the status of your order like most other vendors do."
"I ordered from The Computer Center before I read the reviews on this site. After reading the reviews I became worried so I sent them some emails (which I never got a reply to) and ended up calling them.My advice to you: Call this company, don't use email. They were very helpfull over the phone and informed me that one item I ordered was out of stock which is why my order was delayed. They were able to tell me when the item was coming in, so I called them back on that day and the item really did come in and my order had been shipped out. I expect to receive it in the next day or so and I'll update this if there are any surprises.So call them to check on your order, forget about email."
"Ordered 2 Maxtor 80 gb 7200 rpm SATA drives on Nov.28,2003 and still as of Dec.3,2003 haven't received any confirmation of my order or order being shipped. I e-mailed the company on Dec.2,2003 about the status of my order and still haven't gotten a reply. My credit card was billed for the full amount on Nov.28,2003. Still waiting for a response from the company.Update 12-8-03Finally got a hold of customer service and was told that the drive that I had ordered was out of stock , but they had just received a new shipment and it was being shipped that day.Update 12-9-03I finally received my order that was placed on 11-28-03. The hard drives were well packaged and not damaged. I installed them and they work quite well.Update 12-10-03Received shipping notification by e-mail that my order was being shipped and gave the tracking number which was a bit late. I think the company needs to work on customer service to improve their status - it leaves a lot to be desired. "
"I bought 4 systems a last month and all were as described. I bought another on the 05/13/03 and even though it took a few days to respond with a tracking number it was shipped the same day ordered. Saw all the neg comments so thought I would post my good experience. So far they have been great considering the price."
"Paid for new 5.1 speaker system, received open box, damaged subwoofer, NOT WORKING...obviously sent back by someone else and still shipped to me, defective.First I called about no paperwork (manual, registration card, etc.) in the box. They said they talked with UPS and it "fell out" during shipping. The box was shipped inside another box, both undamaged and unopened, so that was a bald-faced lie (I used to work for UPS).I dealt with Midiland (manufacturer) to get it repaired."
" I ordered a 40 GB hard drive from this company on 11/25/02 and at this date 12/21/02 I have not recieved the drive. I e-mail them about five times and recieved a e-mail back from the last one. They e-mailed be back on 12/17/02 stating that the drive that I ordered was out of stock and for ten dollars more they would ship me OEM drive with a three year warranty. I agreed and they have billed my credit card for the ten dollars but it's 12/22/02 and no drive. If I don't recieve the drive by 12/24/02, I'm going to contact my credit card company to cancel the charges. I would never deal with company again!!12/24/02 Received the hard drive UPS today, shipped from a company in Calfornia. New drive12/26/02 placed the hard drive inside a computer and sounds like it was lying on the cpu fan. Called the Computer Center and got a answering machine and the company gave no respond. When to Maxtor site and received a RMA. Sending it back to Maxtor."
"I placed an order for one of their 40 GB 5400 RPM Maxtor drives on November 25.Several days later (December 2), I called The Computer Center (a long distance call) to check the status of my order. The part was out of stock. They had not bothered to notify me of this at the time of purchase, or anytime after. They said they would be getting the hard drive in a couple of days, so I left my order in.December 5, no word on the hard drive. I call again, and am told it is still on back order. Having just read the ratings here, I opt to cut my losses and ask that my order be cancelled. I make certain that they will be crediting my Visa the same day.December 9, and I've seen no refund on my Visa. I call again, and they say that they credited my Visa the same day. Banks are notoriously slow, so I don't worry. Much.December 11. The money is back in my credit card account. We have an acceptable resolution."
"I placed an order for a Geforce3 video card. I was promptly charged for it the same day. Over a week later and I have not video card no shipping number and have not received a response to 2 emails I sent to customer service about the order. Do not buy from this company under any circumstances. I usually check resellerratings.com before I order from anywhere. First time I didn't and I got burned."
"Ordered a 20 gb Maxtor 5400 rpm drive and received a generic 20 gb 7200 rpm drive that failed only one month later! This drive was for a customer's machine, so I had to order from mwave.com overnight to get it here as quickly as possible. Fraud all the way!!! Mwave.com or newegg.com only for me for now on, unless the company has good review here."
"tracking the order on their site does not work, as I understand, since 2000 (there's an error in the page). emailing "please update me on my order status" gets no response. Call them, "our ups guy is not in the office, call on Monday". Note that their Profile says "Customer Service is our priority." The only good thing about them is their shining first page of their website with all these "God bless America" and their deep sorrow for the 9/11. Well guys, perhaps God indeed bless America, but your crappy business certainly does not."
