"My office telephone system of 10 years failed without warning. I was in the market for a replacement system on very short notice. I did my usual research online &; found a wealth of information, text & video based, at telcodepot.com. I had an appointment near their location & decided, last minute, to stop by. I did not expect much as it was after 5PM on a Friday evening. What a surprise to find that someone not only answered the intercom, but took the time to bring me in. Sam spent almost an hour of his time explaining my equipment & installation options, assured me that I would be able to self-install & promised to call me Monday morning. I left knowing my problem was solved. Sam called, as promised, and walked me through the order. He offered to pre-program the extensions to my specs; free of charge. I received an email from Paul with a short questionnaire to complete & the system was in my office the following morning. I had it installed by late afternoon. I made a follow-up call about a week later to ask Sam a few questions about additional programming features & he was more than accommodating again after the sale. He had nothing more to gain but took the time to make sure I was happy. This kind of customer service simply does not exist anymore. Sam & Paul, thank you for making a difficult matter EASY. As I stated on the phone, the only thing that could make you better is being located in the Bronx. "

"Telco Depot has done a great job at delivering a great product to us as a company. We have been pleased not only with the timely manner at which they delivered our phone system, but also with any questions we have had after receiving it. They have been very helpful. "

"Can say enough how good these guys are. While they were down with no electricity due to Sandy, they still took the time to help me set my phone system. 5 Starts + "

"We have had our system in place for 4 months now. The hardware is good. The Yealink phones are sturdy and holding up well and the server hasn't had any issues.

The sales rep, Joe, was very knowledgeable about the products they sell and helped me narrow it down to find the products that best fit our needs. I have also been able to easily add phones as needed to our small business office as it has grown.

The support staff was able to help me make the small changes I realized we needed after the system was in place.

Overall I am satisfied with Telco Depot. I will continue to order from them when our phone system needs arise.

"Since I have been contacted by Telco Depot they have been very responsive. They have emailed the survey required to configure my new system and called me a few time to see if I had any questions or any problems filling it out. I have been detained filling it out and they keep calling every few days to see if they can help."

"I ordered Talkswitch system and Talkswitch phones through Amazon.com which this Telco Depot was supposedly selling.

I received totally wrong items.

When I called initially, I was told that the person that handles the Amazon account was not in the office and I was asked to call after 2 days.

When I called after 2 days, I was told that the sales person is not in the office today and therefore, the technical support person is handling the calls. But he does not know anything abou the orders.

When I called the next day, I asked why I was sent the wrong products. He said that the products I ordered have been discontinued. I asked why you have listed them at Amazon.com then. He said that he will take them up to the management. (He simply meant that he does not know and/or does not care). I asked if the product is discontinued, why you would you send me totally different products, when I specifically ordered something different. He had no answer. Should anyone even ask me whether I needed some alternate products? I demanded that I would like to return the products I didn't order. He said that someone would contact me later about returning the products. Eventually, I received the return label. I immediately shipped the products back to them. I was over 10 days but still didn't hear back from them about the refund. I called numerous times and they had multiple excuses. I finally received an email from Amazon.com that my refund would be processed. However, they are not refunding me the shipping fees (refunding only $4.99 when they charged $32.95) even though it is their fault. In any case, I am yet to receive any refund. Hopefully, it shows up soon in my credit card.

I would never buy anything from Telco Depot and I would not recommend anyone to deal with Telco Depot.

My response on 12/13/2012

1. Accusing the reviewer of hiding behind a username is completely unfair allegation. All the users on the internet who post comments have to choose a username. And almost all of them choose a random username.

2. I have never complained about any delays associated with Hurricane Sandy. False allegation.

3. Telco Depot’s response is quite misleading and meant to hide the real truth.

I specifically ordered TalkSwitch 488 VS because I needed TalkSwitch 488 VS. If I needed Fortinet products, I could have just ordered from Fortinet itself which is what I have done earlier or ordered Fortinet product.

Fortinet’s current products are simply not compatible with TalkSwitch 488 VS. If the company is saying ‘The same great product’, it does not mean both products are the same. (You have admitted yourself in your reply that they are not the same) or even compatible. That sentence simply means that Talkswitch was great product and Fortinet is great product too. I have confirmed with Fortinet about the incompatibility by calling them.

I needed 488 VS as a back up to my current system. Therefore, if two products are not compatible, I can’t use one as a backup for another and I can’t link them to work together either. Even if they are compatible, don’t send me something I didn’t order. If you don’t have a specific product, there is no reason to mislead the customers by sending something they didn’t order. Even if you had no intention to mislead people, you were simply unaware of the technical details of the products you sell.

After placing several calls into Fortinet, I found out that Talkswitch 48VSX product is compatible with both 488 VS and the current Fortinet phone system. Therefore, I should try to get 48 VSX and they don’t stock that any more.

I contacted Telco Depot again and inquired whether they specifically had 48 VSX. That shows that, in spite of what happened so far, I was still willing to do business with them. I was told that they do have Talkswitch 48 VSX and they would offer it to me for around $1400+.

I enquired with another reseller and they told me that 48 VSX price is around $750. I contacted Telco Depot and asked them about so much discrepancy in the price and I was mislead once more. I was told $750 system must be 48VSX – NFR while they have actual 48VSX. I asked what the difference is. They said NFR system is for demo purpose and they are not fully functional models.

I really doubted that some reseller would really sell such crippled product. Therefore, I called Fortinet again. They told me that 48VSX and 48VSX-NFR are identical products with identical capabilities. NFR stands for Not For Resale. They send such systems to resellers to display in their show room and can’t be resold and they are given to resellers at lower cost.

Therefore, I contacted that reseller again and asked whether they had 48VSX or 48VSX – NFR. And they said they would send me only 48VSX. Therefore, I ordered one for around $750. I received that system and works perfectly. After that I ordered one more system from that reseller as a back up, again for around $750, and both of them work perfectly in sync with my existing system.

This shows that they tried to charge me double price and mislead me about another reseller by spreading incorrect information about them.

4. After I posted the review on this web site, Telco Depot flagged my review as fake and blamed me that I never intended to business with them. And my review was taken off. After that, I was contacted by this web site and I provided them the proof of payment over $2100. How did I exactly not intend to business with them? My review was promptly put back online.

5. At this point, Telco Depot called my office several times harassing me to take down the review. My review is very accurate and therefore, I had no reason to take it down.

6. Determined Telco Depot, at that point, sent me a cake and phone, as a bribe, to take down the review. I threw the cake in garbage (it was full of sugar) and I still have that phone with me as a proof of bribe. I have not tried it yet to if it works.

In any case, my original complaint has not been about the phone itself but about the phone system. Therefore, Telco Depot’s allegation is again wrong that Fortinet-70 is compatible with Talkswitch 488VS and only meant to confuse people. Whether that phone works with my phone system or not has nothing to do with one phone system’s compatibility over the other. Therefore, I would suggest they do more studies, call Fortinet and learn themselves that two systems are not compatible.

7. Few days after sending the bribe and seeing that review is still online, they looked at my Linked In profile and asked one of their friends who happens to be remotely connected with our industry to send me LinkedIn connection request. Not knowing the Telco Depot’s connection with this person, I approved connection request.

Couple of days later, this gentleman who works for Aetna sent me an email asking me to take down the review. I don’t see any reason to take down honest and accurate review of this company.

As few days have passed since then and review is still online, Telco Depot has posted this kind of response alleging me of several things not true. Their response at point says they made a mistake and at another point says the products are compatible. Please make up your mind.

I would suggest Telco Depot that instead of constantly harassing me about this review, spend some time improving your knowledge about the products you sell and customer service and get some ethics training.

telcodepot, Telco Depot rep has responded

“Below is a copy of our initial email reply to the negative review we received from Mr. Narendra Khatri, the user behind "talkswitchcustomer" user name.

Mr. Khatri is an unreasonable individual that purchased a Talkswitch-branded product on our store at Amazon. Mr. Khatri ordered products that at the time he ordered them, were discontinued by their new Company owners Fortinet. Back in mid August 2012 we were notified by Fortinet that the Talkswitch products were replaced with Fortinet's newer products and this change was described by Fortinet as "Same Great product.." - unfortunately (for us) at that time (August 2012) we didn't remove this listing from Amazon and in October 2012 Mr. Khatri purchased them from us through our Amazon web-store.

When Mr. Khatri received the products he purchased from us, he was immediately upset that the products were not what he ordered (we shipped the newer Fortinet products instead of the original Talkswitch products) and demanded an RMA. The RMA was issued immediately and a shipping label was provided to mr. Khatri so he can easily ship the product back to us for refund. When the product was received back at our warehouse, the order was credited by the receiving person for the purchase price only and there were still un-funded outgoing shipping charges left on this order. That is when Mr. Khatri went on the attack and wrote his initial negative review. Since then Mr. Khatri was refunded 100% of his purchase price, including all related shipping charges. And we didn't stop there - our COO had also authorized shipping Mr. Khatri a Fortinet-branded phone for FREE !!! Yes, a $170 NEW phone at no charge !!! This was done simply to prove the point that the new Fortinet phone works on the old Talkswitch platform. Once the FREE phone was shipped to Mr. Khatri, there were no further communications with Mr. Khatri - he never called us and we never tried to sell him any other NFR (not for resale) product as we don't have (and never had) any such product in our possession. Mr. Khatri is now quoting higher prices and claiming we attempted to sell him products that are not meant for resale. It never happened. We have not had any contacts with Mr. Khatri since his initial call to request RMA from us.

Regarding the FREE phone - we are assuming that Mr. Khatri kept the FREE phone simply because the Fortinet branded phone (again, Fortinet is a company that purchased the Talkswitch manufacturer earlier this year) WORKS on the Talkswitch platform.

While we made an honest mistake keeping a discontinued product for sale on Amazon's website, we shipped the NEWER, MORE CURRENT and EXPENSIVE product to Mr. Khatri at the OLD Talkswitch prices. We feel that we did more than we had to do in an effort to compensate Mr. Khatri for his "purchase experience and disappointment with us".

We tried to prove to Mr. Khatri that the newer phone works on his Talkswitch product - he calls it a bribe. We call it a "show of good faith". We have thousands of happy customers, many are repeat customers. And then we have Mr. Khatri.

All we can say at this point is Telco Depot is a REAL company that when confronted with a complaint, tries to improve the consumer's experience and keep our customers happy. We failed to achieve this goal with Mr. Khatri and we are sorry for that. Now, if you spent all this time reading this complaint and our response to it, you be the judge.

====================================================

Now, here is a copy of our original email reply to "talkswitchcustomer":

Dear Mr. Narendra Khatri:

Allow me to introduce myself to you. My name is Dave Cash, Customer Service Manager at TelcoDepot.com. I am writing you this email to explain to you the reasons why you had a bad purchase experience and to see if somehow, “we can make it up to you” and hopefully make you a happy customer of ours.

As you can see in the email that was sent to us on August 19 2012 directly by Fortinet, Fortinet presented the product as “Same Great Product…” (see highlighted yellow section below) and therefore, we didn’t remove the Amazon listing for the original Talkswitch product. We understand that this caused you some frustration and once you received the product, you were upset. At that time you contacted us and requested a shipping label to return the product to us. The label was sent to you via email and the product was shipped back to us in Bay Shore NY.

It did take us a few days to accept the product back to our inventory and send the notification to Amazon to credit you back for the product. At that point I understand that you demanded full credit for the shipping costs for the initial package – Amazon charges that were charged by Amazon and not refunded back to you. Unfortunately, you requested “full refund – product and shipping” at a time when our office and warehouse was closed because of hurricane Sandy and processing your additional credit for the initial shipping charges took an additional week to complete. Needless to say, you became very upset and wrote a very bad review regarding your experience with our company.

Mr. Narendra, please understand that we apologize for your bad shopping experience and ask you to please call us directly at (800)390-1200 – we would like to find a way to make you happy again and to show you that we are a “real company” after all. When calling back, please ask for Joe Sarnicola as he will work with you to compensate you for all your trouble.

I thank you again for buying from us and am looking forward to hearing back from you soon.

Sincerely,

Dave Cash
Customer Service Manager”
