"I placed an order from STP on the 1st of October (SATURDAY). When I placed the order and decided to pay with Paypal everything went smoothly and the order appeared as completed, I received an email telling me the order was completed amd would be shipped shortly. Well that didn't happen! They did take money off my Paypal, but on the MONDAY I received an email from them saying my order was "pending" because my shipping and billing addresses were different and I had to confirm that info with them, so I did as requested, answering the email at the same day. It was WEDNESDAY and the order still hadn't shipped.
I needed those items for the next weekend so I told them that they should cancel my order and issue a refund. They replied saying they one of the items I ordered was "out of stock". Oh great, yesterday the shipping and billing addresses were different, now it's out of stock? Anyways I informed them that I wanted my order to be canceled. The next day they sent me another email saying my order had been shipped! HAHAHA. I told them that I wanted them to cancel it and they did tell me they had canceled it because something was out of stock. But something happened and they shipped it. LOL.
I have been sending them emails since then and they tell me that they will issue my refund when the order gets back to them (I didn't get a hold of it; they set it to return to them automatically). Hey wait... Now I have to deal with the consequences of THEIR mistake of shipping it to me??? I want my money back REGARDLESS of the order getting back to them. My money and I have nothing to do with the fact that they made a mistake and shipped it. It is not my responsibility that the order gets back to them, in fact I don't even have a tracking number to make sure it gets back to them. I want my money back. If THEIR order that shouldn't have been shipped gets back to them or not it's their problem. They are using my money now and I consider it stealing. They should be ashamed of their mistake and give me my money back that is not at all theirs. I have nothing to do with that order. I want MY money back to me.
"Have ordered from Sierra Trading Post several times and each experience with this vendor has been excellent. Orders shipped quickly and always arrived on time or earlier than expected. No mistakes even though some orders consisted of many different products. Emailed questions regarding products or orders were always answered promptly. One order needed to be changed and this was handled in a friendly and timely manner by Marie, one of their customer service agents.
Will definitely be ordering from this company again, and have already recommended them to friends and family who also got excellent service. "

"Although Sierra Trading Post advertises a "100% Satisfaction Guarantee", they are restrictive beyond the stated policies in their return practices. Specifically if you exceed an unadvertised and seemingly arbitrary number of returns, regardless of value or frequency, they will cancel your account and not allow you to order additional items under any conditions at any time. This seems odd given that they are primarily an Internet clothing retailer of multiple brands, both domestic and international -- i.e., there is little to no opportunity to verify the widely varying sizes prior to ordering. In addition, they charge fairly high rates for shipping both to and from, so their reasoning for limiting returns is somewhat suspect."
"I'm not very happy with the packaging. I ordered a trekking pole from STP, which looked like they just tossed into a box along with the literature (which was all bent, and looked used.) and invoice for the product. Next to no packing material to protect the product from shipping mishaps. When I received the box it was all smashed and misshapen. I would normally not fault the retailer for this, since it obviously happened during shipping, but since there was virtually no protection, STP gets the blame. Thankfully there was no damage to the product, but I still find this unacceptable and unprofessional. I think I'll shop elsewhere from now on. "

"I love Sierra Trading Post. They have name brand products (both outdoor products and others) for really good prices. They also often have a great deal running if you search for keycodes online.
In response to others' complaints about "bait and switch" tactics, it is true that generally you can only get one discount per order. So, search around and find the one that saves you the most money and use it. I find this is a common practice among retailers; just because you get an email offering a discount of 20% doesn't mean that you can use this discount on top of other discounts. Don't be greedy, people!
I'd also like to mention that I've had to return a few items over the years and customer service is always so helpful. For example, a while back I ordered a pair of boots that stretched out after wearing them for a few months, such that they didn't fit anymore. I told this to Sierra Trading Post and sent back the boots, and they gave me a full refund. Wow.
The only downside is that shipping isn't particularly fast, and it's too bad they don't offer automatic free shipping over a certain order amount. Also, as with all online orders, sometimes the product doesn't work out and you have to pay to send it back, which is always a bummer. However, given how great my experiences have been, I'm happy to pay for shipping and wait a few days to get my order, and to pay for return shipping if it doesn't end up working out. Thanks STP!"
"This is the best outdoor company out there! Sign up for their deal flyers and enjoy your shopping. The customer service is really awesome, so friendly and service minded. And no, I´m not working there or anything, I´m just a super happy customer who saves 1000´s of dollar shopping there!"
"I placed an order through their clearance department for 3 ladies sweatshirts and one ladies t-shirt. After they arrived, I only opened one item and it was too big. I called to find out about returns. The site states FREE returns. The package contained a UPS label to return and an area to mark reason for return. I did all they asked. It was only a $19 order for which I paid $5.95 to ship to me. I was under the impression that THEY had free returns. That's WRONG! Sierra Trading Post will NOT refund ANY shipping either the shipping you already paid nor the return shipping. So basically you PAY FOR BOTH shipping costs...to receive the item AND to return the item. Example: my items totaled $19 plus 5.95 UPS shipping then I return them and have to pay another $5.95 in shipping. My original cost for items with shipping was $25.04. The refund back MINUS shipping was $13.34. I WISHED I had known as I WOULD NOT have done any business with them. I will NOT HAVE ANYTHING to do with such a DECEPTIVE company. Low clearance prices are just a gimmick to set you up for HIGH shipping cost. THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THE CUSTOMER!!!!"
"I have been buying from these guys for over 10 years. Shoes, pants, shirts, camp food, towels, electronic weather stations, anything really. There has never been any problem at all. Every one of my friends who I recommended them too loves them. As other reviews said, you get the best deals if you subscribe to the email newsletters and check for online coupons. My favourites recently - 30% off, free shipping, and a $25 credit for future orders. True, you need to read these offers to know about minimum purchases, but even without any additional discount their prices are unbeatable. With the extra discount, their prices are simply insane."
"STP is an example of a company that got huge and shifted from customer satisfaction to profits. They advertise a satisfaction guaranteed policy but do not stand by it. My experience was that after shopping with them (or "trading" as they put it) for 15 years they spontaneously started cancelling my orders. When I asked why they said they had elected to stop "trading" with me because my return rate was 30%. Those of us who live rurally (Alaska in my case) depend on online shopping. In my case I was shopping for every member of my family. Boots, coats, sporting equipment. for them to suddenly pull the plug with no explanation until I inquired about the cancelled orders is incredibly bad customer relations. I was actually personally hurt by their insensitive treatment. I never expected that from STP after such a long customer/merchant relationship. I have shifted all my purchases for outdoor gear and clothing to REI and Zappos. I encourage all who read this to do the same. Also, shop locally develop real relationships with local merchants. Just a little aside, I can't believe that STP quotes scripture!! Jesus cast the merchants out of his temple. The owner Keith Richardson needs to read Matthew 21:12"
