"SCAM ALERT

DO NOT BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE! They bait and switch, are rude, and charge credit cards thousands of dollars if they get mad at you. If you have already given them your credit card number REPORT YOUR CARD LOST OR STOLEN NOW!!!

I bought a Nikon D80 USA kit from them for $778, they charged me $1334 and sent me a gray market D80 without USA warranty.

DISHONEST DISHONEST DISHONEST

Will not give refunds or RMAs. To be avoided at all costs!"

"Royal Camera – These guys are something else! Last week, I ordered a Nikon D70 with the Nikon lens from Royal Camera. They immediately tried to switch out a lens telling me other lenses are better and that they are getting these returned a lot because they are so cheap ????. The sales person was very rude and when I insisted I wanted the Nikon lens and told him I appreciated his suggestion he said, “Yeah, I can tell you appreciate it. So much you’re still getting that Nikon lens. Well anyway let’s go on with your order”. How weird for a sales person!!

He then told me the battery Nikon supplies is not a strong one and has no recharger. He then tried to sell me a 512 Mbyte CF for $149. Wow, COSTCO sells them for $49.

Anyway, I purchased the camera. A week later, something was just bugging me. First, I never received an order number, even though they promised they would email me and give me the order number. I called them today and got an order number for, as he said to me, “The Nikon D70 that is from overseas”. I said, “What?” He said the Nikon you bought was an overseas one, with no warranty and has the cheap battery and no recharger. That’s the one you ordered. I said, “No one told me that!” Anyway, by the time he wanted to sell me the US boxed Nikon D70 it was the same exact price as all the rest of the camera stores at $1199 with the rebate.

So these guys are truly rip-offs, and I would never attempt to buy ANYTHING from them. They are dishonest, unscrupulous, cheating, con-artists that have no concern about customers – just the bottom line. I have no idea how this company has staid in business for this long, but as long as they treat customers this way they won’t.

I think it's time we all write to the Better Business Bureau and get these guys out of businees before they rip-off more people. I know I will.

As an follow-up, I did receive my camera, with everything they said it would have in it and it did arrive within a week. HOWEVER, I also received the 512 MB CF, made by PQI - they charges me $179 for one. It is a CF that can be purchased for $42 - $49 on the web, if you, for some reason did not want to go with a reputable company such as Lexar or SanDisk for close to the same price. COSTCO on line seels the SanDisk Ultra II 60x dor less than $60. and we al know now that you can purcahse a 1 GB CF dor less than $99. $179 for a 512 MB?? THAT's how they make their money!!! I just dont' have the energy or time anymore to try to return it. I'll have to eat the difference! I'm glad I got the camera and everything it was supposed to have in it - I'm done with these guys!!

Buyer beware. Do NOT buy from Royal camera.

"I was asked by a Finnish friend to purchase a Canon Rebel 8.0 MP camera with a 75-300mm Canon lens. I sent away to this company not knowing their business reputation. The price was $629 for the camera and $390 for the lens, and $1079 with a $60 shipping fee. My wife was called by the firm last week and they told her the model ordered was not in stock but the U.S. model was available for $100 more with a battery pack. They also asked her why she wanted an "old lens" when a "newer and better" one was available. Well, a package with the standard lens was delivered last week, along with a Sigma 70-300 mm lens, a much cheaper version and not what we ordered. I learned tonight that my credit card was debited for $579 assumedly for the camera that they didn't know when it was coming in and $549 for the lens which I had not even ordered And I have to go to Europe in a week. I have to assume they shipped something out to me, what it is I don't know. I would just like to return the whole thing to them and get a refund.
The company engages in bait and switch tactics, which are as misdomeanor under NY State law I quote:
Deceptive Business Practices
• 15 USC § 45
• N.Y. General Business Law § 349

Unfair acts and deceptive practices carried out in the course of business or trade are prohibited in New York State. Section 349 of the General Business Law specifically prohibits this activity and has become the most frequently prosecuted consumer-related offense in New York State. There are many practices which violate this statute, including:

Bait and Switch Advertising

• General Business Law § 396

A store cannot advertise an item for sale without providing an adequate supply of the item to consumers. It is illegal to advertise or offer for sale merchandise or services with the purpose not to sell at the advertised price or not to sell at all. Unscrupulous merchants have been prosecuted for advertising an item at a sale price without having the item in stock. With interested buyers in their store, they try to entice the consumers into buying more expensive items or services. The New York General Business Law, along with Federal Trade Commission regulations, prohibits a merchant from offering merchandise or services without the intent to sell the offered merchandise or services.[9]

9] N.Y. Gen. Bus. Law § 396(1).

So, I'm stuck with something I didn't order and at a higher price to boot!

note: first number is the confirmation I received from them, second is the invoice number from the first invoice they sent me

Sequel to the story: the company received the merchandise back on June 6 and credited my account for all but $68. I took the matter up with Master Card, which agreed to credit me back for the additional fees.

Remember this: Federal law allows you to claim a full refund if you are sent merchandise you did not order. Such an instance is called a "billing error." You will have to provide full particulars to your credit card issuer, and make sure you have the routing number when you return any unordered merchandise by UPS or Fedex. Try to deal with them by Internet rather than over the phone, as you will have a record to refer to and not "my word vs. their word."
And please write to the NYS Attorney General's Office and the NYC Office of Consumer Protection. With enough complaints they can have their license lifted or even be prosecuted for violations of the law as stated above.

Bottom line: no firm should be allowed to do busines if its business model is predicated on luring customers with a fictitious price they have no intention of keeping.

"It's so funny, coming here and reading all of these comments after having basically the EXACT SAME experience as almost everyone else on here. I ordered the Sony HDR FX1 camera and thought I'd found a totally wonderful price - I was so happy about this when I first placed my order. I should have known it was a case of that classic "too good to be true" scenario. I placed my order on a Saturday night and then got a call from Royal Camera the next day. I guess the very first thing that I thought was a little odd was the fact that they actually called on a Sunday. At first, this guy wanted to verify my address, then my order. Then he began trying to sell me additional accessories; he was very aggressive and pushy! At one point he actually said "I'm a little surprised, in fact I can't believe that you didn't order any of the normal accessories that most people order". Some of the accessories were things that I did need, but I had already decided that I could get better prices on those items someplace else and that was the reason for not buying them as a part of the original order. I told him I just wasn't interested in anything else and that all I wanted was the camera. It was at this point when he told me that I had ordered the International version of the camera and that all the menus in the camera, and the manuals, Etc., were written in Korean. I was like, “say what”? I was pretty taken back by this and I asked why there was no mention of it on the website. His reply was, “it is there on the site” and that there was a link to the so-called American model (a total lie). Wanting to verify this, I asked him to wait for a moment while I fired up my browser and went to their site to find this link and see for myself how I could have missed that link. This guy then said; "well, you can do that on your own time" and he wasn't interested in, or willing, to wait for me to look on the site and verify what he was telling me. Then he told me that I should just let him change my order so I could get the American model. Fortunately, I asked him if there was a price difference; good thing I asked, rather then assume that the price would be the same! He then quoted me a price of nearly 3 times the amount of the price on their site. The price he gave me was even higher then the local stores here in Honolulu, and everything here in Hawaii is higher then the rest of the planet, so this was a real shock. I told him to cancel my order and that I wanted to check their site first and find that link to the American model and that if I decided to go ahead and order the camera I'd order it again, later. The guy became very rude with me, raised his voice and then hung up on me! Amazing! His attitude was pushy and downright shitty, to say the least! After getting off the telephone with this guy, I checked the website and there IS NO LINK to a so-called "American Model", and there is definitely no mention of anything on there being an "International model". Another thing that he told me on the phone was that the camera only came with some basic cables, no battery at all, no remote commander - none of the things that Sony says the camera is supposed to ship with. I know this because I had already downloaded the manual off of the Sony website. So, after thinking about this experience for a little while, I decided to call Sony and ask to see if Royal was an authorized Sony dealer - you guessed it - they definitely aren't. I told the Sony rep about my experience and he went onto their website and also could not find any mention of an International model, or an American model. Moreover, the Sony rep told me that they do not make a Korean model at all! This guy at Royal camera just outright lied to me! Fortunately, Royal did not charge my card and apparently they did cancel the order. However, I am still watching my credit card account very closely and am a little uneasy that these guys have my credit card information. As just about everyone else on here has already said, and I have to totally agree, it is quiet apparent (at least to me) that these guys are definitely a total scam! As some other people have already written, I don't understand how they even stay in business. One thing I absolutely know; there’s no way I could even dream about getting away with running my business like this; if I did, I’d be out on the streets pushing a shipping cart around with all my belongings, in a heartbeat, homeless and broke. All I can say is - “wow”. Finally, I am very, very, very suspicious of “any” favorable reviews on here. It looks to me like they have a routine that they go through and that they do this with every customer. So I can't see how it's possible that Royal Camera could have even one single satisfied customer. Anyway, if you are actually considering making a purchase from these people, please be very cautious with Royal Camera!!!!!! (What an understatement that is!)"

"My comments recorded a few days ago about the poor service for this store were misdirected. The store with which I had problems was INOAX. See my comments about that store. I have never done business with Royal. Sorry for the confusion.

"I ordered a Nikon D100 for $619 (£355) from Royal Camera online and then received an e-mail asking me to telephone them to confirm order. I live in the UK and so this isn't cheap at anytime to phone the USA. The SOB I spoke to was rude, arrogant, obnoxious and INSISTED I buy another 3 items at ridiculously inflated prices...I declined naturally. The guys comment to me was "Either you buy these items or I will cancel the order and I can then get on with my day!"...my reply..."Cancel it!" and hung up. I sent this e-mail but never received a reply...I wonder why..."Sirs,
I have just telephoned your department and spoke to a man whom I consider to be the most arrogant of people whom I have had the displeasure to deal with.
The surprise that I did not have American Express or Diners card was then met with the insistence that I purchase another THREE items. I explained that I did not want any other accessories as I have all the lenses, memory cards and flash equipment that I need...I was then met with the comment of "Either you purchase the items or I'll cancel the order and I can then get on with my day"...naturally I cancelled the order! He insisted that it stated this on the site...well I couldn't damn well see it anywhere!

Considering that I had phoned from the UK and held the line for several minutes I consider that the attitude of your representative was ABYSMAL!

I feel certain that you will not permit this negative testimonial to be put on your customer comments!

Yours resentfully,

PJ Sawyer"

"I just got off the phone with them. In a very polite, professional manner I asked if the Canon 20D they are selling was a US or Japanese make. The salesperson immediately attacked me with a barrage of questions, and accused me of shopping around too much!!! WOW! He then shot out item after item of things that I should get like lenses and memory cards. When I told him I don't need them, he abruptly told me the camera body was a Japanese model and quickly hung up. DANGER DANGER. Bad vibes from these guys. Shop somewhere else. "

"I don't think I ever expierienced such a friendly organization like Royal Camera. The prices were great. Even after almost a year my purchase is still working like it was the first day I got it. Plus I got a free 1GB memory card and a free camera bag as a token of their apperciation, because I'm such a valued customer. "

"I called them and asked if the camera on the website for $520 was an american model with all the accessories and if I could get it in a week. I was told it was with everything but a battery, but the battery was $300 and that I could get the camera in a week if I got expedited shipping. I called Canon and was told differently in regards to the battery so I bought the battery from Canon. I called these clowns back and was told I would have to wait 4 weeks if I didn't want the battery, since the camera w/o the battery is grey market. Basically they keep changing their minds and lying. Beware of Larry at Royal Camera, he is rude and obnoxious telling me he doesn't have time for me to voice my complaint. Don't buy from these people. Atleast they cancelled my order."
