"I ordered a Toshiba Portable Bluetooth Speaker the day before Thanksgiving. The day after, Thanksgiving night, I get an e-mail from Rakuten advertising that same speaker with an instant discount of $2. So Friday morning I e-mail customer service and seller asking them what I can do to get the $2 + sales tax, roughly $2.18, price matched since I had just ordered it. I thought it seemed reasonable.I get an automated e-mail saying they'll get back to me in 24 hours. It took 8 days for someone to get back to me. They get back to me and ask for:* Web link to the product showing the $17.99 price* Date you saw the product at that price* The amount of the refund you are requestingI provide that and get this response:You are eligible for a price protection refund if your request meets the following conditions: * The item is in stock, shipped, and sold by a Rakuten Marketplace Seller or a retailer from our list of qualified Internet retailers* The item was not purchased as part of a Rakuten Super Point promotion* The item did not have a coupon or promo code applied to it* The request is for a maximum of 3 of the same product, shipped to the same address* You have not made more than 3 requests within a 30 day periodThe price difference is no greater than $100.00 per request* The price was listed within 14 days prior to your order being delivered, or 14 days after your order was deliveredJust a poor experience compared to other online and brick & mortar retailers. They can keep that pocket change, they'll need the money more than me at this rate."
"I recently bought a Canon MG5420 printer. Rakuten has the best price, including Amazon. Now that Amazon is charging tax in MA, I've started looked at other vendors.I was leary of using Rakuten given the lack of reviews in general, and the ones I did see weren't very positive. I asked a colleague who has used them in the past and he hadn't had any problems so I decided to take a chance.I was shocked to see the printer at my door 10am THE NEXT DAY, without selecting any expedited delivery. It was in fact free shipping. Depending on the who provides the fulfillment of the item (Datavis out of NY in this case) YMMV, but I was very pleasantly surprised.Plus they're part of Google Trusted Stores."
"I used to be a longtime Buy.com customer. My experience with Rakuten has not been good. Stick with Amazon, the best retailer online at the moment. Has been for a long time. "
"HORRIBLE! STEALS YOUR MONEY! Never gave $20 rebate and does not respond when I ask about it."
"I had read the reviews and still opted to attempt to buy a laptop from Rakuten (hey, people are inclined to report the bad but not the good, generally). I placed an order, my grandmother provided the card info (as she was doing the purchacing). The item info said it ships within 2 business days. 2 days later, I contacted asking why my order was still processing. They told me that they were waiting for a response, regarding a voicemail that they left "on a phone number associated with the credit card. It might not be the number you provided but we aren't allowed to tell you." My grandmother has had the same number forever, so I called and told her to check her messages. She had no message. She calls them and tells them, and they tell her they can't help her unless she recieves the message. I call again, and they tell me that they are forwarding me to the resolution department, and that we should get an email from them within 24 hours. 24 hours passes...no email. I call AGAIN, and they tell me (after 25 minutes, and transfering me amongst 4 different people) that they have already refered me to the resolution department, and that they will provide me with information on what I need to do... within 24 hours. Needless to say, the email never came. I emailed again telling them that if they didn't resolve the issue completely within 24 hours, I was canceling my order. Yesterday, I canceled the order. Today I went to the website to make sure it was canceled, and noticed that by my order info, they had added a huge red disclaimer that "THIS ITEM SHIPS FROM JAPAN AND CAN TAKE UP TO 20 DAYS TO ARRIVE." WHAT?!?! I ordered it a week ago, and NOW you tell me this small detail?! I got an email today informing me that they were sorry to be losing my business, bla bla bla "your order has been canceled." A few hours later, I get another email from them informing me that my order has been canceled "because we were unable to verify your billing information." 1- You canceled my order because I told you to. 2- YOU COULDN'T TELL US THAT YOU NEEDED THE ADDRESS VERIFIED DURING ONE OF OUR SEVERAL PHONE CONVERSATIONS?! Is that info REALLY that classified?Don't waste your time, patience, or energy on this company. "
"I ordered the Xbox 360 E 250GB Kinect Holiday Value Bundle through the Rakuten.com on Oct 28th in a promotion for $250 each and 20% Rakuten super points back for future orders on their website. And I received an email from them on Nov 5th, telling me my order is cancelled due to unable to verify my shipping and billing information. I called my credit card company and was told they didn't turn down any pending charge or authorization on the credit card from Rakuten. So I called Rakuten customer service, and after I told them what my credit card company told me, they said the email was just automatically generated and they cancelled the order because they ran out of stock. But indeed they have the same xbox bundle available on their website but with a higher price. So the truth is that, they have plenty of the bundles as they are still selling them right now, they just don't have enough stock to fulfill the promotion they advertised. And they refused to offer me the same promotion. I'm very dissatisfied in this case, since there were similar promotion for the Xbox 360 E 250GB Kinect Holiday Value Bundle on amazon.com same day for $240 each, and on ebay.com two days later on Oct 30th for $220 each. If they can let me know that they can't fulfill my original order fast enough, I would definitely just go ahead and make a new order either on amazon or ebay.So I just want to share my really bad shopping experience from them, since they hold up my order for a week then cancelled it and lied about why they cancelled it in the email. And it caused me to miss the chances to buy the same thing from the other reputable retailers.I even tried to get help from Google since during the check out of the original order I received some kind of notice, saying this order is protected due to Rakuten is one of Google Trusted Stores and received an email from Google later. But it turned out to be useless. So just be aware of Rakuten and their customer service, because they can easily screw your order and they won't even feel sorry. If you really need some online shopping, AVOID them."
"Rakuten is a complete FRAUD. They confirm orders, but then do not ship them. Calls to Rakuten endure lengthy holds and then promises to look into the matter and respond, but nothing ever happens. Messages get a response with an incident number, but no reply ever follows. RAKUTEN IS A SCAM - they charge your card (then charge additional unauthorized purchases to (just search "Rakuten fraud" on Google), and never ship anything or reply to customer service complaints. FRAUD, FRAUD, FRAUD"
"Horrible. They take no responsibility for anything you might buy.I asked help buy a TV mount and was directed to the wrong model. Now I can not return it because I can not get anyone to respond to calls or emails!Stay away!"
"Horrible! Wish I had found this site first. They hung up on me twice, and havent responded to their "within 24 hour" response time on 3 complaints, actually havent responded at all."
"Probably the worst reseller I have had the unfortunate experience of dealing with. I ordered the Barcelona towel warmer on October 11 and the original seller was Wayfair. This was going to be a gift for a newly married couple and I was excited about it since I was getting such a good deal. However, on Oct. 17, I received a serving tray instead of the towel warmer! On calling up Wayfair's customer service, I was informed that Rakuten had placed the incorrect order with Wayfair. Wayfair sent me a return label for the tray. When I called Rakuten, they claimed that they did not place the incorrect order with Wayfair and asked for one day to resolve the matter. Rakuten and Wayfair (in separate emails) got back today (Oct. 18) and said that the towel warmer was no longer in stock (it was in stock until Oct. 17)! This was a really horrible experience, especially since I stopped looking for other deals (a week ago) for my gift and had to spend an hour on the phone with Wayfair and Rakuten. Also, now after reading the other reviews, I am worried that my credit card info may be compromised. I'll be cancelling my card and obviously never deal with this horrible reseller again!"
"I've been a customer of Rakuten since the days it was Buy.com. Please realize that Rakuten is a big marketplace for other sellers, so make sure you're buying from Rakuten itself. If you have had a bad experience with a marketplace seller, then it's more of that specific seller's fault.I haven't had any really bad experiences with Rakuten nor the sellers. The only bad experience I had was that something came broken from a marketplace seller, but it was resolved with an email. The latest Rakuten experience I had was excellent. Placed an order in the morning, and my item was delivered the next day in Arizona with Budget shipping."
"I recently ordered a Digital camera from Rakuten. It ended up being an order to Eforcity. The item was promptly acknowledged at the correct price. A package was shipped but it contained something other than what I ordered. It was not even a camera. The seller did send a return authorization and did give me a refund after I returned the WRONG item. The problem is that they REFUSED to send me what I ordered. Even though they acknowledged my order they refused to fulfill it. I had a lot of aggravation and No satisfaction."
"I order a canon SL1 and used a promo code to get 30% in points back.I got my camera no problems and I got my points.I have used my points with no problems (almost $200 in points).no one stole my CC# information."
"This site is just a front for dubious resellers. I went Buy.com and found out it was now Rakuten. What the heck, I thought I'd give them a try since the site looked professional. The product I bought came two weeks late and was in terrible condition. All my emails to support came back as "We'll look into this" but never anything more. I am still waiting on an RMA to return the purchase. BEWARE! This is really a third world Amazon wannabe who has very low standards for resellers on their site.. I've also heard a lot online about credit card fraud."
"Do NOT do business with Rakuten. They are UNbelievably bad. This Bumbling/Criminally-Incompetent enterprise won't even post any negative reviews on their own website.. and from this website you can see why. They are CRAP.Wouldn't send on one order; sent unusable item on second and did NOT issue refund when they said they did.. Twice.Still waiting. STAY AWAY."
