"I had an amazing experience with ProPortable. I was in the market for an Asus S5N for college next year, and came across ProPortable in my search for the best price. They charged as much as $800 LESS than other online retailers.

One of the best customer support ideas they have is an AIM account that buyers can use to ask questions and chat with someone from the company. I talked to a person named Sean there, who was an incredible help in deciding to buy the laptop. He had an M5N which is very similar to the S5N, and he even pointed out some of the shortcomings of the model I was interested in. He (or someone else) is usually on the AIM account all day, sometimes even past midnight. They are always happy to answer any questions, no matter how picky (I wanted to know EVERY little detail, I don't know how they managed to put up with me).

In the end, I decided to buy the laptop. They built it in TWO DAYS and it arrived by FedEx 2-day two days later. That is unheard of in buying laptops online. Places like Dell and Sony take much longer to fulfill custom orders.

I ordered mine without an OS, with the intention of installing both XP Pro and Linux on it. If you are interested, there are many sites out there dedicated to installing Linux on this very model. They are both installed and working perfectly (aside from a few minor bugs in linux, mainly with the card reader). The installation was painless, and I am extremely happy with this 2.8lb, .7" thick notebook.

"ProPortable was the best online store I have ever done business with. The people were extremely helpful, and they really care about their customers. I was originally going to buy from a different company, but they seemed unreliable, and sketchy. ProPortable is neither, they only sell the best products, and have the best customer service. Who else has an Aim screen name quick message button on their site? When I bought from ProPortable, I felt like I was buying from a real person, who will benefit from my buy, not a big company who doesn't care about me and only sees me as a name attached to an invoice number."

"I've been buying online - everything from CDs and Books all the way up to high end electronics and laptops - for many years now and I can honestly say, that without a doubt, ProPortable is the best of any online company I have dealt with.

They (especially Justin) are very customer-oriented. There are no tricks or "up-sells" here. They want you to know the honest truth about the product you're buying and they'll answer any questions you have. I was trying to decide between two very similar laptops and, literally, I logged about 60 emails back and forth with ProPortable to help me pick the right one, with the right config and at the right price (amazing considering how frustrating I know I can be).

In the end I decided on the Asus S5N (great laptop by the way if you're in the market for an ultra-portable). I received it on the day I was quoted when ordering, despite there being a small problem (not the fault of ProPortable) in the testing phase before it shipped out (that's another thing great about ProPortable - they actually test the product before they send it to you, unlike some other resellers who say they do, but really are quite content to take your money and send you something that is DOA).

When the notebook arrived, I had some questions about setting some things up, specifically I changed out the hard drive myself and Justin walked me through it. He also guided me through partitioning the new drive and installing the operating system anew.

A few days after the purchase a rebate offer came up that I was eligible for (but otherwise would not have known anything about) and Justin took it upon himself to contact me about it and email me the necessary forms, etc. Now that's going out of your way to help your customers out. Also, unlike other North American dealers (who go through distributors), ProPortable has a direct relationship with Asus - so if you're in the market for an Asus laptop or other Asus product, keep that in mind.

So, I guess to reiterate, if you're thinking about going with ProPortable for your next purchase, do so with confidence."

"A terrible amount of hassle processing my credit card. Never was able to speak with someone on the phone about it. They insisted on communication via email only. Rather than try and sort it out properly, I was forced to accept shipment at my home address rather than my work address. Which meant I had to take the day off work just to receive shipment. I tend purchase something online at least once a month and have it shipped to my work address -- so this was particuarly ridiculous. All in all, it was the most hassle I've ever gone through in 10 years of purchasing products online.

Email may be convenient, but they really need to up the professionalism and not be afraid to answer their phone and discuss the situation with their customers.

The owner of the company called me after I posted the review above, and proceeded swear at me for giving them a poor review. I tried to calm him down to no avail. This company has absolutely no comprehension of professionalism. It's astounding.


To be clear --

The "blackmail" line below is yet another GLARING example of their lack of professionalism.

The laptop has no problems what-so-ever. I had (and still have) no clue about an extended Asus warranty. I honestly don't even know what warranty I have on this laptop is right now, nor do I care. That's a complete fabrication on his part. I never mentioned any such thing and it's nothing I would ever be concerned with in the slightest.

I also certainly don't need any money, which is just a completely unplausible and absurd accusation. Again, complete fabrication on their part.

I would have been more than happy never to have heard from this company again and infact I hadn't even thought about them until I was asked to take this survey.

“As our policy is stated, we will not ship to any address that can not be verified by the credit card company for the security of the card holder.

Before your order was processed, you contacted us by email. We responded and when your credit card company wouldn't verify your shipping address, we first tried to reply to you via email. Our email was answered quickly with suggestions from you. When we continued to have problems with your card company, you said we could just ship to your billing address so not to delay shipping time. If we did not get a response via email as quickly as we had, our billing department would have given you a call.

As such, we followed your instructions.

Sir, we did not call you swearing at your for giving us a bad review or in general, but we did contact you to ask why you were unhappy with the situation which you are the one who suggested everything that you are unhappy with to us in the first place. Then trying to blackmail us for a good review to get the value ($150) of/or the extra year warranty Asus started a week after you took delivery of your laptop isn't going to get you very far either.”

"These guys were great - they helped me customize a machine that was barely to market, kept in regular touch as it came through customs, etc., helped me with setup, and above all gave me a super fair price.

Lots of people claim to have what I ordered - an Asus DigiMatrix - but these guys were realistic about timing and made everything carefree. The owner even shipped my box out himself.

"UP TO THIS POINT, THE ASUS RF1 PACKAGE HAS BEEN NOTHING SHORT OF A NUMBER 1 HIT. I THINK A LITTLE LUCK PLAYED WELL FOR ALL OF US TO GET THIS BY X-MAS. HOWEVER, YOUR SERVICE WAS HELPFUL, HONEST, COMFORTABLE, AND VERY INFORMATIVE.

THE PACKAGING AND ACCESSORIES ARE VERY SHARP. THE MACHINE ITSELF IS TIGHT. WE' VE ONLY HAD IT 2 WEEKS, SO WE'LL KEEP YOU POSTED FOR ANY ISSUES GOOD OR BAD.

"I was a little skeptical buying a laptop from a smaller company at first, but these reviews made me decide to give it a try. I must admit, the reviewers didn't lie, these guys are top notch. Not only do I have a laptop with the best LCD I have EVER seen, but I am extremely confidant that they will offer me the best possible warranty service. How do I know this? Well, when I first recieved the machine, I was having difficulty determining if I had a full 1gb of memory or not. I called and was lucky enough to reach Justin the owner (it was well after business hours). He personally checked my completion order and then spent more than an hour of his time walking me through the process of visually confirming the chips. Even after the sale these guys are polite and professional. I anticipate buying 2 more laptops in March for some of my sales people and I will definetely buy from PROportable again. My whole experience with them made me believe that they go the extra mile for every customer and I have a much better feeling about trying to get hold of someone with them for any help I need than I do in getting personal attention through say the DELL help desk!"

"Justin was extremely helpful, going so far as to answer questions over AIM after normal business hours. An absolute pleasure to do business with. Shipping was a bit slow, but wasn't their fault - fedex needs to get their act together with cross border shipping. However, despite the small delay Justin was great with sending e-mails letting me know exactly what happened and when I should expect the a620bt. As an ebay user would say, A+++++++++ WOULD SHOP FROM AGAIN."

"Great customer service. I highly recommend ordering one of the Asus brand pocket pc's from here over my last purchased Axim X3i by Dell. Not only did the screen glass top crack the first 3 months into being careful with it, but the backup battery which is not replaceable also began to fizzle out. The claim it is rechargeable, but it soon only began to peak its charge at 80% then 60%. Dell's customer service also drags (always being on hold for 2 hours before speaking to the right department.) On the other hand, reps from Proportable are on AIM or by the phone whenever I ever needed. E-mail support is done by hand instead of a self generated bot, and they are usually responsive within a few hours via e-mail, if not sooner. Also, Asus (being the manufacturer of my motherboard) make great products well worth the dollars spent. I highly recommend ProPortable as a reseller with top of the line customer service and a great line of Asus products."
