"I purchased a motherboard from Overstock that arrived DOA. I put in an RMA request and was told that I would receive my UPS mailing label and my RMA# within 4 days. 5 days later I contacted them again because I never received my label. They told me I would need to wait 4 business days (which I already had done) so the rep assured me that it would be coming. A few days later, I contact them again and inquire about my missing label and RMA#. The rep tells me that when I called the last time, they started the process over and so I would have to wait another 4 days. Give me a break! Finally my label is emailed to me (over two weeks after my initial request) and I send out the mobo for a refund. I just received my refund last week (almost 2 months after ordering the item). In the meantime, I had ordered another mobo from them. The same scenario is playing out. It arrived DOA and I'm having a hell of a time returning it. It's been almost 2 weeks since the original request was submitted and I've just received my label and RMA#. I'm starting to think that Overstock purposefully makes it difficult to return items so that they can float your credit and make money or deter you from returning items altogether. They simply have the worst customer service I have ever encountered. The only good thing I can say is that because the items were defective, they did cover shipping and waive the restocking fee."
"Stay away. Overstock pulled a bait and switch on me and many others by advertising 30% cashback through bing only to report that your order was canceled to bing after you received the order in the mail. Overstock has put the blame on bing and customers for the cancellation. No reason to shop there ever again since their prices are no better than other online retailers."
"Ripped me off! Do NOT buy from OVERSTOCK.COM! Had replacement cell phone shipped in late October then OVERSTOCK.COM charged my VISA card FOUR (4) times in early November - one a day for four days! Despite repeated contact with customer service and assurances they would "get back within 1-2 business days", they have not gotten back to me or processed a refund. They used my VISA information to repeatedly charge me for the same single order. DO NOT BUY from these rip off artists. I'm filing a BBB complaint and processing the multiple overcharges thru the bank, but what a bunch of clowns. Don't become a victim - do not buy from OVERSTOCK.COM"
"While I had purchased several items from Overstock that I was happy with, when it came to returns it was a completely different story. As a gift to my mother in law, I purchased cashmere sweater. They instead, sent her a men's belt and scarf. We initiated the return, sent it back. It is now a month later, they will not send the correct merchandise until the other stuff is processed which can take up to 14 days, and now they are trying to charge me a return fee of $4.95, even though it was their error. In addition, I randomly got an e-mail today with another tracking number and mail label for the merchandise that in fact, was already received by them! They do not care about their customer service, and they simply read whatever policy is in front of them. I will never use them again."
"As you will see with most reviews. Slowest shipping of any website I have ever bought from. Not to mention the fact they tried to screw me out of $56.06 in cash back from Bing. I hope you don't have any problems with your order because their customer support is garbage. They act like they want to help you, but then send you an email accusing you of their problem being YOUR problem. This is a garbage company and I will stick to Amazon...where they have real customer service."
"I ordered 3 items from the O and received 2 of them promptly. As I was waiting for my final item to arrive (the tracking sheet they sent me indicated the item had been shipped a week ago), I received a package from them and upon opening it I found that it was a set of sheets for another customer.
I immediately assumed there was a mix up with mailing labels and contacted an associate (hereafter referred to as “asso”) from Overstock.com through their “live chat” feature. Well, that was an exercise in futility. Asso was dull-witted, unperceptive and ignorant. He failed to make any connection between my having received someone else’s order and my missing order.
Asso told me my shipment was expected on April 25th (which would be 10 days after the item had been shipped!) and that they would send me a return prepaid UPS label for the set of sheets I had been shipped. What? I have to return them? Bummer. “So, is UPS going to come pick them up?” I asked Asso. “No, UPS does not pick the item up.” replied Asso. “But wait,” I exclaimed, “I can’t get to a shipping center!”
At this point I was beginning to seethe. I mean, come on, I don’t work for these douche bags and they expect me to go out of my way to ship a wrong order back to them? “Duuh,” replied Asso, “please wait 3-5 minutes while I look into this.” The chat at this point has already taken about 15 minutes of my time (Asso is a VERY s-l-o-w typer and it took him a long time to research my missing order). I was fully expecting him to come back and tell me to just keep the sheets.
Well, no such thing. He comes back to tell me that they will arrange for UPS to pick the item up from me. Gee, thanks for that! It was packaged in a flimsy white “bag” that I had to destroy to open, so now I have to repackage it. I’m going to put it in the largest box I can find and fill it with those annoying peanuts! Ha!
But seriously, I was highly frustrated with the lack of concern and knowledge shown by the associate. The “chat” took entirely too long because he knew nothing. By the time it was over it had taken up a half hour of my time. I won’t waste my time with Overstock.com again. "
"Typical Bait and Switch routine. Was promised 30% Bing Cashback, got canceled a week later. Overstock is claiming that I made my purchase through a third party affiliate and am therefore ineligible for BCB. Overstock made this claim yet they are telling me to talk to Bing about it - what sense does that make? This was the last draw for me - I won't do ever do business with Overstock.com again. You have been warned."
"I placed an order with Overstock.com, Order Number 25234506 on 30th Dec 2005 at about 6:30am Eastern time.
It stated on the items description page that the item leaves Overstocks warehouse in 1 to 4 business days.
I later on received a call from Overstock.com to get my credit card details when i was told that the delivery time is 5-10 days after the item leaves warehouse. Agreeing to this I provided my Credit Card information to the Overstock representative.
In evening while surfing the same products page I found that an additional mention of 2-3 days was mentioned on the website. Curious about the status of my order I initaited a chat only to learn that the delivery for large screen tVs is infact 1-6 weeks instead of 5-10 days !!
Presuming the worst case that meant my order takes 1-4 bsns days + 2-3 bsns days + 1-6 weeks to reach me ! Which is approximately 50 days !!
It would be great if this is identified somewhere on the product description page or order confirmation or during telephone conversations which will alert the shopper not to if they so wish!
Since i had placed this order under the agreement that the order was to reach me in 14 days but is not about to happen, I consider this as a breach of our agreement relating to the terms of sale and I am therefore requesting that Overstock cancels this order or follows through with the agreed delivery .
I have tried to intiate contact on the online chat but the customer service representative have been extremely rude (Ms. Vanessa) and refused to accept my notification to cancel the order. Along with resisting order cancellation I was repeatedly referred to the site where it states Order once placed cannot be cancelled!.
Future and past shoppers please take note that FTC protects you / us !
Per FTC rules (http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/mailorder.htm)
"When you take orders by telephone, you may choose to provide prospective customers with updated shipment information. This may differ from what you said or implied about the shipment time in your advertising. The updated shipment information you provide on the telephone supersedes any shipment representation you made in the advertising."
Also Again per FTC rules,
The merchant must cancel an order and provide a prompt refund when: the customer exercises any option to cancel before you ship the merchandise Sec. 435.2 Definitions. (c) "Shipment" shall mean the act by which the merchandise is physically placed in the possession of the carrier
I also find it unacceptable to accept this policy if the terms of sale were not followed through since Overstock verbally mentions different shipping and delivery dates and then points to their website for their store policy !
I am also inclined towards copying this email to the Attorney General of Utah to alert their office of Overstocks "NO CANCELLATION policy" as I find it extremely biased. Especially when customers like me are wanting to cancel orders on the same day it was placed and the order is not even shipped.
I also find it extremely disturbing that my credit card is charged on the same day that my order is placed but the order is not delivered untill 7 weeks ! "

"Stay away from these con-artists. They operate like your typical boilerroom operation. The only thing they do effeciently is charge your credit card. Do yourself a favor and don't fall for their low prices you'll be sorry. I made a mistake of ordering an xbox from them which was supposed to be in stock, after 4 days I finally get a tracking number generated somewhere in Colorado. {There located in Utah) What supprised me is first the tracking number was no good then I'm told that it was sent by regular U.S. mail with no tracking or proof of delivery!! All the help Overstock is willing to give is that if it doesn't show up by Dec 19th call them back and they'll look into it. Thats three weeks from when it supposedly shipped I'm now disputing the charges with my credit card company. STAY Away!!!!
Update: Well the Xbox360 finally arrived!!! Sent by regular mail with no signature or proof of delivery required!!! Thank God someone noticed the package. I will still NEVER buy from this company again! How do they stay in business with such lousy customer service and to send expensive electronics by regular mail is just utterly amazing!!! "
