I could write about the huge array of products OWC has, the very right price for those products (and if you find these too expensive, they have a garage sale on a large number of products on a regular base), the en lasting support they offer (by e-mail or on the phone, even if your thousands of miles away\u2026), the quality of the products, the how-to videos and so on and so on.<br><br>Although we don\u0027t live in the USA (and we are not necessarily interested in all of their products), they are one of our preferred resellers. ![Share](javascript:share_rating({"review_body":"I had ordered a Mercury Elite-AL pro 800GB drive from OWC on 4\/23\/07 (order #LXXXXXX) . I was testing the drive to see if its working as expected. Over a 36 hour encoding operation, the drive suddenly disappeared from the desktop and the encoding failed & the fan was at full blast. I spoke to OWC customer service and they agreed to ship me a new one and shipped the original back.<br><br>I went thru the same test again with the replacement drive and I hit the same problem and I was not very happy with the purchase but, OWC sales reps have been very helpful. I also want to point out that I have a G-RAID and CalDigit 640GB drive which are working fine under the same stress test.<br><br>So, requested a RMA and OWC rep agreed to extend by return date to 5\/30 (as the replacement drive did not come until 5\/20. I returned the drive by paying shipping myself. The return was received by OWC on 5\/29.<br><br>When I checked my credit card and see that I was charged a 15% restocking fee. I understand the reason for having the restocking fee as you do not want people simply trying out a product and returning it just because they can.<br><br>I\u0027m not such a buyer. I only returned because of the above mentioned problem (which in both cases OWC says, they cannot reproduce it in-house) and it seem bit unreasonable to charge me the 15% restocking fee. In this case the 15% restocking fee ($52.00) seems excessive.<br><br>OWC is charging me restocking fees even though the hard drives do not stand up to professional usage (as the OWC claims they are professional grade). I have replaced the OWC drives with CalDigit ant G-Technology drives and they perform flawlessly. Even though they are slightly expensive, the reliability of the drive is more important. "They advertised a Maxtor hard drive that comes with a 5 year warranty but the one I bought only has a three year warranty. OWC confirmed the discrepancy and agree to take the drive back without restocking fee. However, they refuse to refund the shipping charge and blame the problem on the recent merge of Maxtor and Seagate. OWC is the seller of the dirve and they should bear the shipping charge and not to blame other party."
