"You know, I think it's really a SHAME how Newport News has gone down the tubes in the past few years. I used to LOVE this shopping site! I used to even get their catalogue mailed to my house monthly, and would spend hours drooling over the next merchandise I was going to buy. HA! Not anymore! Not only has this site become SO expensive to buy from (since when have their dresses been over $100??), but their clothes aren't even cute anymore smh. :-( They used to have some REALLY CUTE clothes that were reasonably priced, and didn't break your wallet. I had tons of items in my "Wish List"! But now, it seems like ALL of their clothes are OVER-priced, lousy-looking, and just plain boring. They don't even have a decent sizing list. I just tried looking for an item in my size the other day, and it was not available. I'm a size 6 btw, so it's not like I'm an odd size or something. I'm just SO dissapointed how this company has taken a turn for the worst. :( This used to be my "go-to" site for when I wanted nice (albeit cheap) clothes for a decent price. Sure, their clothes were never Anne Taylor or Banana Republic quality, but they were still nice, and for the price you paid, you didn't mind! Now....this site is crap. I just saw tey have a 50% off sale on their items. Ummmm yeah, 50% OFF when items are already priced for $135 dollars?? Ummm...NO thank you. Not in THIS recession. Smh.....They killed their market when they raised their prices and started giving out bad quality. I never had a problem w/shipping or shipping costs either. Maybe I had one run-in, but usually my items shipped on time and were in good shape. Idk....It's just a shame... They've lose at least one customer, because I will NOT be buying from them ever again."
"I would NOT recommend ordering from here. They sent to the wrong size and refuse to send me the correct size without me PAYING THEM for shipping. They even admitted that it was their own glitch. However they said it was "not their policy" to send the correct size. I've never seen such POOR customer service, and I order online often.In addition, the shipping was much slower than the average online shopping site."
"I placed an order for a cute jeweled print blouse on February 19th, 2012. I had been looking at this blouse for a few months and was happy to see that it was on sale for $19.00. Well, when ordering with Victoria's Secret or Overstock.com, they send an email showing the order placed and tracking information so when I did not receive an email from NPN I called mid week and was advised my order "just put together yesterday and will ship in a few days". So vague but I just went with it and hoped for the best. I received my order on February 25, 2012, and when I opened the package I found a strapless gray lace dress size M. Now how did I not expect this? I have no use for this dress and could not understand how the employee could select the wrong item when it clearly is noted on the invoice...just 1 item to pull, bag and ship. I double checked my invoice and sure enough it shows that I ordered a blouse with jewel print...of course I called customer service and the rep advised me to send the package back (at my expense) and I will be issued a full refund. After reading the reviews about NPN poor customer service and delays in issuing refunds, I don't think I will send the order back, I may just donate the dress to a Goodwill or a women's shelter. I just want to be done with NPN and of course I will NEVER EVER order from them again...but I will tell all my friends and coworkers about this bad experience."
"a new company has taken over newport news and to be honest i have never paid attention to shipping costs because i ALWAYS had a free shipping code.now those codes are no more.. when i placed an order for 3 items during their 70% off warehouse sale.. i was SHOCKED to see that my order which total 20.00 dollars and change had a shipping charge of 18 DOLLARS?????i called and asked if this was some kind of error and i was told no shipping is based on weight i had to compose myself before i cursed out the rep! 18 BUCKS to ship 3 tops and 1 of those tops was a tank??? I really think this is a scam and it just can't be legal. "
"OH, I JUST CALLED NEWPORT NEWS ABOUT MY RETURNS FROM APRIL. THEY FILED BANKRUPTCY AND WONT BE REFUNDING ANY RETURNS PRIOR TO JUNE 2011 OR SOME CRAP. SO I RETURNED OVER $150 OF MERCHANDISE (DUE TO SIZING) AND I STILL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT ALL. THEY NEVER ONCE MENTIONED BANKRUPTCY WITH THE SEVERAL EMAILS I SENT ASKING WHAT WAS TAKING SO LONG. SPEIGEL FINALLY PROCESSED A RETURN ON JUNE 2-- BUT GUESS WHAT?? I WONT GET THAT MONEY EITHER IM SURE SINCE IT IS LINKED WITH NEWPORT NEWS. BOTH COMPANIES ALWAYS HAD LOUSY RETURN SERVICE. SO YAY FOR THEM. STEALING MONEY LEGALLY."
"I wish I read the reviews before ordering from newport news. I strongly regret it! NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM NEWPORT NEWS! THEY ARE CROOKS!! THE SHIPPING COSTS ARE OUTRAGEOUS! I spent almost $20 on "shipping" alone PLUS THEY ADD A "HANDLING" COST!! So they make you spend another 2 bucks for so-called "handling" when they are really trying to pocket extra cash for themselves!! Their clothing are very very VERY CHEAPLY made. I ordered some skirts and they looked hardly anything like the ones in the photos (the color was completely off) and the quality of fabric was beyond cheap. Even worse, all their clothing comes to you VERY BADLY WRINKLED!!! So you have to spend hours ironing them, but because of the cheapness of the fabrics used it doesn't iron out completely. They get everything from China for cheap so what you expect, right? And their shoe sizes are off too. I order two different pairs of shoes both size 8; one of them fit ok and the other was too tight despite being the same exact size. I returned the latter shoes along with the poorly made and badly wrinkled skirts immediately. UPS tracking confirmed that they received the items but they NEVER SENT AN EMAIL CONFIRMING THEY RECEIVED THEM! I emailed them asking if they received it and are processing it and I get a rather vague email saying they received it and to allow 30 days and 2 billing cycles to receive a refund. Well over a month has past and still no refund credit so I emailed them again telling them that the 30 days are up but then they tell me that 2 billing cycles have not past (NOT TRUE) and say that each billing cycle is 30 days. So now they are telling me I have to wait exactly 2 WHOLE MONTHS to receive a credit???! This is beyond ridiculous!!! Why does it have to take them so damn long just to credit a few items??? I've returned items I've ordered online many times before and NEVER DID I HAVE TO WAIT THIS LONG FOR A CREDIT! Usually reputable online retailers credit you the same billing cycle you placed the order! Newport news is just looking for excuses to keep your money as long as they can even though they have this "guarantee" on their site saying that returns are easy and simple to get your money back. THAT IS A COMPLETE LIE. Any one who tried to return anything back to newport news can tell you what a headache it is and you will have a very difficult time getting your money, if you ever do. They are cheating and scamming customers by gambling that many will not speak up and forget about the refund. My advise for those still waiting for their refunds is to be aggressive and keep calling them until they really start to actually process and credit your return. Tell them you will notify your card issuer of their deceptive and unethical business practice and file a claim against them. This will usually get their attention, but if they still don't do anything, threaten to take legal action against them. And get an attorney if they still don't take your request seriously. JUST DON'T GIVE UP!! This is what they are betting on. I will NEVER EVER BUY ANYTHING AGAIN FROM THESE SCUM newport news! Most of the stuff they sell is crap anyway and they know it! Which probably explains their horrible and unbelievably slow return policy. Any by the way, once you order something THEY SELL YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION TO OTHER MARKETING COMPANIES!! So not only will you keep getting unrequested newport news cataloges in the mail, but you will be FLOODED WITH JUNK MAIL CATALOGES FROM OTHER ONLINE RETAILERS YOU NEVER HEARD OF. I'm writing to them to get my name off of their marketing lists. Unbelievable what they'll stoop do to just suck as much money as they can from their customers, even it means ripping them off and selling their personal info to other companies. I never written a review about a retailer online before but I am so extremely appalled by newport new's deceptive practices that I must warn everyone out there not to order anything from them. They've might seem to have stylish clothes from their pics but what you see is not always what you get. And you will have a heck of time trying to get your money back if you try to return them as they take forever to credit you, if they ever do. Don't risk your money on them. And if you already bought something, don't bother trying to return anything to them because you will not only lose money you spent on their OVER-INFLATED AND OVER-PRICED SHIPPING CHARGES PLUS HANDLING FEE BUT YOU ALSO LOSE OUT ON THE MONEY SPENT TO SHIP IT BACK TO THEM!!! ALSO YOU MIGHT NEVER GET YOUR MONEY BACK AS THEY KEEP GIVING YOU THE RUN-AROUND!! SO THEN THEY HAVE YOUR MONEY AND THE STUFF YOU RETURNED TO THEM!! The chances are very high that you will be greatly dissatisfied with the items you ordered and you will waste so much money on their so-called “shipping” charges. "They do have cute clothes even though the sizing is a bit uneven across the board. Avoid their shoes like the plague, though. I ordered two pairs and the quality was horrible and one of them was an entire size (at least) smaller than it was marked. The other ones were half a size larger than marked. Another complaint I have is that I ordered a swimsuit that they promised would be in by a certain date. I kept on getting updates from them until they finally cancelled the item some eight weeks later. It was very annoying and if I see that an item is on backorder, I avoid ordering it. Their prices are good, especially when you use their online coupons. Their refund system, however, is woefully slow. It took me over a month and a half to get a refund and this is the slowest I have ever experienced on a website. "
"The order was fine, great prices, cute looking items. Got them in decent time. Got a skirt which was of sad quality. Bathing suits are amazingly small. Tried re-ordering but color was a lot uglier than pictured. Quality of suits were fine, as expected. Got a great after-season price plus THERE ARE LOTS OF GREAT COUPONS TO BE FOUND ONLINE FOR THIS STORE!!! Promptly returned items. Called after a couple weeks when I still hadn't received the return. Customer service (effective, prompt, courteous) said it could take up to 6 weeks to process, but they had received it (which was good to know). Indeed, around 6 weeks later (or more) I get the return - just waiting for my credit card company to process it. Next, I wait for the second return for the other bathing suit that didn't fit...hope it goes as smoothly (although long) as the first one. What was frustrating was that you can't look at your own order history even with an account without the invoice number and something else. That is ridiculous. It should be a part of the account, seriously. I didn't make COPIES OF THE INVOICE, and then returned them so I couldn't look at the orders (good thing to do!). What was amazing was I went to check on the return status today - through phone - it was completely automated (and thus immediate support) and yet they helped me perfectly. It took 2 minutes and one word from me(RETURN)to find out it had been processed, how much for, and to remind me of my CC company's processing time, then if I needed anything else. I was surprised by this. I probably won't order again though, the quality isn't too great, even with nice final prices, and the return time is amazingly long. Also, I Bizrate sucks. I have tried several times over a year to submit reviews and it wouldn't take. "
"I sent in a return shortly after receiving my order. However I never received a refund. They claimed they never received my return and practically called me a liar! They refuse to refund my money, and I can't dispute it with my credit card, because I used their credit card! Needless to say, I will NOT be ordering from them again. By the way, once you order from them you will receive a catalog in the mail EVERY WEEK."
"If you order via live rep, you get NO acknowledgment of your order& no way to track it. Regardless of how you order, any returns or exchanges take a MINIMUM of FOUR to SIX WEEKS! This is totally unacceptable (Lands'End, LL Bean, etc. take about a week)and you get no acknowledgment of their receiving it (where does it go, India??) Lands'End always lets me know where I stand, but NOT Newport News. Customer service is given NO information about the return/exchange. I think they must use orange juice cans and string, since they seem to leave customers out of the loop entirely and one department doesn't seem to know what another department is doing. Customer service was very unhelpful and seemed to "blame the victim," rather than offering to research this or send me higher up. I asked for a manager or supervisor and was told there was none. I have written to their president and am awaiting a reply. They refused to give me her email address, so I had to be as low tech in communicating with her as their company is in accounting and tracking. I am unlikely to continue to order from them because of this, even though they do have some decent clothing styles."
