I haven't stepped foot inside a video store in over five years thanks to Netflix. I'm sure they must miss me because of the late fees they no longer get from me.

I have the 3 at-a-time and pay a little extra for blu-ray. I did have the 4 at-a-time plan but downgraded that once they raised blu-rates (again).

No complaints with shipping, the nearest Netflix facility is in the town right next to me so I'll receive most discs the next day. I haven't experienced any of the infamous 'throttling', but I'm sure that's because I don't return things in a timely fashion.

All in all, I love Netflix and barely go to the movies anymore because of them.

I'm currently on the 3 at-a-time (Unlimited) Plan for $16.99 a month. I used to rent from local video rental stores, but found their prices to be very expensive when compered to Netflix. Just renting 3 DVDs from the local video rental store already costs more than the 3 at-a-time (Unlimited) Plan from Netflix. Their selection is great with a lot of hard-to-find titles. They also have a Blu-ray selection at an additional $1 a month. They don't have game rentals -- that would be the cherry on top of the cake. I wouldn't even mind paying an extra monthly rental charge if they had a game selection.

My wife signed up with Netflix in 2004, and I've been using them like crazy since I got laid up with a broken leg.

Pro:

They're cheap. For the cost of two or three movies locally, you can rent loads of movies a month, and stream movies to your computer.

I have had outstanding service from Netflix. Order movies on line, get them in the mail, watch, stick them back in the mail, lather, rinse, repeat. It couldn't get simpler.

Sometimes it takes a while to get a new movie. I've had a couple movies on order for three weeks, and they still aren't here. However, when they DO become available, they'll get sent to my house, which beats the heck out of stalking the local video joint hoping a movie got turned in before somebody else snatched it.

They have a few movies available for streaming to your computer. There's rarely any lag, and the quality is acceptable.

Con:

The movies available for streaming are extremely limited. It's nice for the odd movie or two, but they could do better. There's really no reason that 20 year old TV shows can't be streamed.

The quality of streamed movies is acceptable, but just barely so. It's very fuzzy. I wouldn't mind letting a movie buffer up for an hour or so, if that meant I could have higher quality.

Sometimes they'll list movies they don't have, mainly older titles that somehow turned into cult classics. Other times, they'll send the last DVD in a series first, instead of sending them in order.

Conclusion

Other than these minor quibbles, the price, service, and order system is top notch. Gone are the days where I hurt my back crawling on the filthy floor of an overprice rental store looking for a needle in a haystack.

Thank You Netflix!

I've never had any real problems with them. Sometimes the disc gets stuck, but I just clean the cd and keep going. It's cheap and convenient

This is our second time around with Netflix. The first time we subscribed, all was well for the first 3 months or so. Then, we started getting damaged DVDs. They weren't unplayable; they just kept getting stuck in certain spots and the only way to continue was to skip large sections of the movie. We'd report the problem and they'd send a new one - but that takes time. IMHO, they should have an internal quality control system and not rely on the consumer to do the work for them. So, we cancelled because of the frustration.

But we missed the convenience. So, we started our subscription again just 6 weeks ago. Of the 3 DVDs we've received, they have ALL had problems. We've cleaned the DVDs, cleaned our player just in case it was us (note that other DVDs play fine), but still the problem.

As a comparison, at the same time we renewed with Netflix, we also started a trial membership with Blockbuster. The movies we've received from BB have been fine...but it's still too early to tell if BB will be consistent, too.

At this point, I'm ready to cancel NetFlix again and just stick with BB for a while. If BB tanks, we'll cancel them both and start reading more :-)

Awful customer service. They have no way for customers to email them or submit a support question online. Their support section of their website is totally frustrating and only gives you canned FAQ answers, not real help.

You have to phone them for support and when you do, they are condescending and unhelpful.

I returned a damaged previously viewed DVD under their 'satisfaction guarantee' return policy. It was received back to them (I tracked it) but they never credited my credit card. So, I filed a dispute with my credit card company and now Netflix refuses to send me an more rentals, they've completely frozen my account, yet are still charging me for it.

They do not disclose this anywhere outside of the tos but they limit the number of computers allowed to do instant play to 4 computers and 4 devices. This means if you have trouble with a computer and need to reinstall the os you just lost a license. Not a problem you say just reclaim the license. According to netflix that is not possible. The only option is to wait for 1 year for the license to autmatically free up. They have no ability to do this simple task that itunes has been able to do for years now. Get a clue netflix before someone sues you over this. If my computers are stolen what options would i be left with?

This is a terrible company, they offer me a 2 week free trial yet charged my AMEX even after I cancelled my membership at the end of the 2nd week.I cancelled my membership because there is always a "short wait"or "long wait"to get new releases. It seems that the only movies you can get right away are : "gone with the wind" or "Mary Poppins"!!!

As long as their service is working, it works well. The problem is that they advertise "Unlimited" rentals, but if you actually try to take them up on the offer, they'll throttle your account and start shipping DVDs days late, or from other states.

Their customer service is essentially useless. It appears they have about the same access to your account as you would have on www.netflix.com. If you so much as attempt to complain, you'll get form letters back, but nothing of value.

I have only been with Netflix for about 6 months, but so far they have far exceeded Blockbusters capability to provide me with entertainment. I pay $10 a month and watch 2 movies a week. It's all I need cause let's face it, you've gotta get out of the house sooner or later, right?

2 thumbs up for Netflix!

AVOID! Do not give these people your credit card info. I promise, you will regret it. I cancelled my membership last October, and they still keep charging my credit card. I have emailed them and phoned them; however, they continiue to charge my credit card every month (this is May 2007!). I have went through a bunch of hassle having to dispute the charge every month.

I have been a Netflix customer for years. In general, they are superb! Shipments are fast, with noticeable delays only on weekends and holidays. The selection is outstanding. Moreover, I give them great credit for inventing the "disruptive technology" that freed me from Blockbuster, a company I despise because of the outrageous late fees they charged me for so many years.

Some reviewers complain that Netflix "throttles" their orders, intentionally delaying in sending back DVDs. For years, I have reliably watched 8-12 DVDs per month, and my use has not been throttled for either old movies or recent releases. I understand the annoyance of heavy users whose access may be throttled, but realistically, getting movies for less than $2 each is still a great deal. The great majority of customers will not face this issue.

Occasionally, I receive a damaged disk. In those cases, they ship the replacement to me the day I inform them. Once, I accidentally mailed one of my CD's back to them instead of the rented DVD. A few days later, I received the missing CD in the mail, along with a nice hand-written note. Excellent!

So I have been a member of netflix on and off for the last 4 years. I didn't have a problem with them until the last 6 months when it took over a week for my movies to get checked in. I live 2 miles from the post office in the zip code on the address label. I go to the post office to return the movies. Don't tell me it takes a week for them to get turned in. Not only that I put all my movies in 1 large manila envelope and they only checked in half of them (Im on the 8 out at a time plan). I searched high and low for the phone number, and they told me "well maybe you only put in some of the movies" and that was after waiting on hold for over 20 minutes.
The service hasn't gotten any better either. I also am a membmer of blockbuster.com and I get movies from them much faster, if blockbuster only had more plans to choose from.

They are good at first and then they start playing their throttle game. I have been a member several times and it always ends the same way. Their claims of unlimited rentals is a lie. They play games like not checking your movies in for several days, then posting processing for several more, then shipping in 4 days, etc. That is the way you will get limited after a couple months. Then to try to contact customer service is impossible, it doesn't exist. Like I said they are good at first but you will quickly be limited.
