"If you want to be hassled as unprofessionally as it comes, rude, sarcastic and uncooperative bullying at it's finest.

Condensed version: We mailed payment, found out it was lost in the mail, requested vendor to fill out lost check affidavit which is required by our county office apply a stop payment, they would not, so to expedite payment in explaining the vendors refusal to fill out the form, requested that we could do it for them to expedite reissuing another check. Having explained this process to the vendor and vendor still continued to send unprofessional harassing emails, continuing to be rude and unprofessional. At that point, we had had enough abuse since the process had continued so that we could get the reissued check in the mail asap. We have made very effort to get payment to them within our means without any cooperation from them. The vendor would call and not give his company name repeatedly, not leave a message in our voice mail, continued to harass the receptionists with rude sarcastic accusations. When reaching the superintendent, he continued to be rude, sarcastic and unprofessional. The payment was in process the vendor was told again. Not willing to take the unprofessionalism any longer, the superintendent hung up. We have since sent a reissued check in the mail, which has not cleared at this point.

They do have great product for the money, but if anything doesn't go their way. Watch out.

Please feel free to contact the district to get more details since we are censored in this format.

“Shelly, you have completely fabricated a story. We never harassed anyone, we never abused anyone, we never bullied anyone, we were never sarcastic, we were NOT rude in any way with the superintendent - but at the end of the conversation - he was very rude when we brought up the late fee and then he hung up on us.

We loaned you the money and you presented yourself as being incompetent and unprofessional by failing to properly mail out payment with tracking or delivery confirmation and then refusing to take responsibility for payment not arriving on time and then refusing to pay the late fee.

We had agreed upon terms and you didn't meet those terms. Now we need the 3% late fee which we will bring up with the Board of Trustees.

Let me give a quick review. This customer is the Ackerman School District. At the time of the writing of this review, they were 3 weeks overdue on payment, refused to pay a late fee because they said they weren't responsible for the payment not being made on time (blaming the mail courier instead) admittedly refused to take our calls and ignored our emails while payment was still overdue, tried to get us to do their work for them by filling out a form we didn't have to fill out, and then to top it all off the superintendent literally hung up on us when we finally got through on the phone and asked if they were paying the late fee, since he said payment might not arrive until the end of Dec or possibly later.

In fact, as soon as I brought up the late penalty fee on the phone, the superintendent's voice turned extremely dark and rude and unprofessional and he literally said, "This conversation is over." Please keep in mind, this is while payment was still 3 weeks overdue, and after he told me it might be another month before we received our $2400+ for the laptop we sent them in good faith.

We plan to file a report with the Ackerman Board of Trustees to tell them about our unpleasant experience with these two employees. Hopefully, they will not find their extremely unprofessional behavior acceptable.

Thanks for reading.”

"If you are like me, you probably found this page because in your quest for the laptop equivalent of the Death Star, you found Malibal and said "What the hell is a Malibal?! And does it rhyme with volleyball?"

I built the requirement for a great machine into the contract for a job I have just started. I compared everyone. I looked at Lenovo and Dell new and refurbs (both excellent, btw), Alienware (over priced my little pony for nerds), Sager, before stumbling upon Malibal.

My budget allowed me a Nine series with a 17" 1920x1200, i7-950, 12GB of PC3-10660/1333MHz DDR3, 280M-GTX, 3x500GB 7200RPM SATA in RAID-0, and a few accessories.

I chatted online with a support person prior to the purchase, and they were absolutely awesome. I had initially been looking at the Veda, but as I explained that this would be 75% for business, the rep steered me toward the Nine... smaller display, and only 1 GTX-280M vs the SLi capability in the Veda, the Nine is tops in the power category. I was unable to find any other laptop that came close, and the price was DAMNED reasonable for the ridiculous power this thing packs.

So, it was between the Malibal and a Thinkpad. Thinkpads are an engineering marvel. They are the best designed laptop chassis you can buy. Maxing out a Thinkpad W700 from the Lenovo site came up with the following: QX9300 Extreme processor, 8GB of 1067MHz RAM, 2x320GB 7200RPM HDs in RAID 0, 17" WUXGA, Quadro FX 3700M.

Now, chassis engineering aside, the Malibal absolutely devastates the W700 in every possible way*. The domination of the QX9300 by the i7-950 is staggering:

Intel Core i7 950 : 3.07GHz : Passmark Bench:6,196

Intel Core 2 Extreme Q9300 : 2.53 : Passmark Bench 3,664

(The i7 bus absolutely murders the previous generations - however, keep in mind that the Nine packs a DESKTOP class processor, so the W700 can run on battery a bit longer)

Next, the RAM... 8GB 1067MHz vs. 12GB of 1333MHz. Your call.

HDs - with the W700 you max out at 2x320GB (Obviously you can buy drives from TD or wherever, but that is beside the point) You COULD go SSDs, but in that case the W700 only goes 2x128 where the Nine will go 3x160. The 3x500GB in RAID 0 screams. Just makes sure to back up, kids.

As far as the screen goes, the Nine is beautiful, but it IS glossy. The W700 screens I have seen are very nice, and I would honestly have preferred a matte finish on my Nine's display.

On to the GFX cards - (see * above) for CAD you might be better off with the FX 3700 - I don't know. The much greater RAM capacity and speed, and the dominating i7 might make up the difference, if there is one. If you are a CAD engineer, I would definitely look into this before buying.

With all of the above taken into account, the Thinkpad is STILL almost $1,000 more. Lenovo's support service is top of the line - I have no experience in that regard with Malibal. They both come with a 1 year parts warranty - but Malibal ups the ante with 3 years of ltd labor, and free shipping both ways as well as free labor on upgrades and they have 24/7 US based support.

So, now here is the trick: I am getting this mainly for business. I WILL travel, but I don't care how heavy something is - you might I haven't tested it, but I would imagine the battery won't outlast your average NFL TV Timeout.

There remains the issue of the leap of faith in going with this brand over a established enterprise name like IBM, Dell, HP, etc. *I* had no issues with that what soever, I run Linux and it doesn't care who's machine it is on. But, what did concern me was that if this thing turned out to be a turd, it would be a bad way to start off at a new company to say the least.

So, happened upon this site and that was enough for me. What sealed the deal was the response that they had to one irate customer. I deal with people like that from time to time, and they handled it admirably indeed. (Search through here to find it). My subsequent experience with the online support staff was spectacular, as was my experience with the ordering and delivery process.

I got what I ordered and got it when they said it would get here.

This machine rocks, but you can get it from all kinds of different vendors. I will buy from Malibal because their site rocks, their ordering system is great, they integrate tracking right into your account. They don't pressure you or spam you.

Everything else aside, it comes down to this: the genuine passion that this crew has for doing what they do better than anyone else is shown through their actions instead of a flowery "About Us" page.

Oh, and in case I forgot to mention it above, this laptop is awesome. And also fast. I would say that it is one step above having your own giraffe or platypus.

"Here is a great example of running off a customer that once loved you. Note, the rating on this review has went from a perfect 5/5 to a 3/5, then a 2/5, and finally 1/5 based on the increasing negative and abusive tone of communications. Maybe someday a reasonable person will read this, and the bozo that let this get out of control will be prevented from ruining others.

GREAT PRICE AND CUSTOMIZATION (back when it was 5/5):
I purchased two top-end laptops from Malibal (over $4,100), and was very happy with both the transaction and the products. They have a great combination of customization and price, and start with some of the best chasis available. I'm very happy with the systems.

TERRIBLE POST-SALE SUPPORT (was 3/5 at the time):
Their post-sale service has been seriously upsetting. I contacted them hoping they might be able to fix a scratched screen. Instead of a helpful response, I was simply told I would have to pay as though they just didn't want to deal with me. Well, of course I would have to pay for it. I damaged the screen as a result of my own clumsiness, the system is well outside of warranty, and I never once implied that I expected them to fix it for free. I didn't get any further with followup - Malibal wouldn't provide an estimate for the repair. They just want me to ship the system to them and find out later. This is the most basic of questions I need answered before I decide to ship them my two thousand dollar laptop... Would you risk mailing your system without knowing if it would cost $100 or $1000 to fix? My experience has left me without confidence in their ability to handle a post-sale issue, and it's looking like I'll have to find someone else to fix the screen.

UPDATE 1:
I just want to clarify that I had an overwhelmingly positive experience with Malibal until I contacted them for help with this problem. The reason I wrote this review was to share my concerns about the post-sale service I experienced, which has soured my view of the company. The defensive and argumentative tone of my service ticket got worse almost immediately after posting this review. I rarely post reviews, and was worried I was too harsh on them. until I read the contents of my inbox after they got this. Let my experience be a warning to you.

Unless someone steps in to repair this relationship, I will have lost a favorite custom laptop builder... If this is simply a rogue agent, I would be happy to update this review once a more reasonable response is received.

UPDATE 2 (then 2/5):
The tone of the emails continues to be argumentative and defensive. It is too bad, as the purchase process and product was wonderful. With the way they handled the situation, I am not confident that I could order from Malibal without retaliation from this review.

IN RESPONSE TO MALIBAL'S COMMENT (finally 1/5):
If Malibal actually explained everything during the support process as they claim to have below, this review would never have existed. ---Updated due to slander lawsuit threats.

I ORIGINALLY LEFT AN OVERWHELMINGLY POSITIVE REVIEW:
But my original rating of FIVE/FIVE stars cannot stand. I dropped it to THREE/FIVE when I was ignored and their terse responses made it seem like they just didn't want to deal with me. Once they saw the review, the language in the ticket became extremely defensive and seemed angry. Even before I reviewed them, I felt like I would not be able to get a screen replacement even at my cost. The communication from Malibal completely ruined my overall experience even though the product and price was great. The communication since the review has extended to threat of lawyers, so the rating goes to ONE/FIVE.

Be sure you finish your business with them before providing anything but the most glowing feedback.

RESPONSE TO EDIT 2:
You threaten me with slander lawsuits because I called you a liar, and now you print my FULL NAME (in violation of the terms of service here at ResellerRatings), print on record a slander against my personal character, as well as calling me a liar? I removed the comment because you threatened me with a lawsuit; I made my point with the facts in the review. You simply further my point by continuing to be publicly abusive to me. My complaints are stated as clearly as they can possibly be.

ONE LAST OPPORTUNITY FOR MALIBAL TO SALVAGE THIS
This could have been resolved and you'd keep the 5/5 rating I gave you to start! In fact, if a less hateful and more reasonable person contacted me to restore the relationship (owner or manager maybe), I would likely restore the rating. If you would actually read the review, you might realize that Malibal caused that rating to drop every time you responded as you just did in the edited comment and in the service ticket. But first I'm gonna need an apology for that last edit - how dare you.

--- I guess not... Malibal wants to continue "fighting", calling me names, and doing everything but proving they have the best service in the industry as they claim. I have a hard time believing Malibal leadership would allow someone to write such hateful things in their company's name. The comments below speak for themselves. Folks, make your own decision about doing business with Malibal."

“Managerial Edit: This customer called in and admitted that we didn't do anything to warrant them giving us a one star customer service rating. However, they said that they expected us to apologize to them for their unprovoked attack on us and that if we apologized to them for something we didn't do, then they would restore their 5 star rating.

Well, unfortunately - we cannot apologize for something we didn't do. If we had actually done something to this customer, then we would obviously apologize and correct the situation - however the fact is... they have maliciously attacked our company for some unknown reason.

Note: this is the first and only person who owns a MALIBAL laptop to ever give us a one star rating.

Original Reply: This customer contacted us and said he broke his laptop. We simply replied and said physical damage won't be covered under warranty and that he would also have to pay the shipping, since we usually cover all shipping on warranty work. This is something we must clarify up front, so that the customer knows 100% that they will have to pay for the service.

He then asked for an estimate to fix his laptop and we said we'll need to see it before we can tell him how much it will cost. That didn't mean we would fix it, then force him to pay before he even knew how much it would cost... he could have received an estimate and then decided whether or not he wanted to get the work done - so he has absolutely no point about not wanting to send in the laptop before getting an estimate of the damages.

And, that's it. That's all that happened... he wrote this entire negative review based on these two, one-line emails that we sent him.

To review: This customer damaged his laptop by mishandling it. He then contacted us and we told him that the damage will not be covered under warranty. He replied and asked how much it will cost to fix his laptop and we said we'll need to see it before we can give an estimate. He then comes on here and based on these two emails - writes a negative review.

Please note: We have 0 complaints with the BBB in 7 years, and a 9.55/10 lifetime rating on here - so that proves we know how to take great care of customers.”

"I bought a "Nine Series" laptop from Malibal. Within minutes of ordering, someone from customer service contacted me via phone to confirm the order. The build was quick, and I received the order 8 business days later. I found that the computer I ordered had a Windows Experience Index Base Score of: 5.7! The computer I ordered is smoking fast and the customer service is exemplary. The unit's performance far exceeded my expectations!
Edit: Had problems getting the integrated webcam to work, and throughout several correspondence emails with their Tech. Support Team, they were able to find the problem and send me a patch to solve the problem in no time! Webcam works fine now!

*** PROS:
- The unit is smoking fast!
- I can play ANY 3D game on high settings without any delay/lag!
- Nice, large (glossy!) 17" screen for the ultimate in gaming/movie watching!
- Excellent customer service.
- Lower prices than their competitors!

*** Cons:
- The unit was a little larger than a normal laptop (21 lbs.); it fits better in the category of a "desktop replacement" rather than a "laptop."
- The power supply is also a bit large!
- The 4 USB ports are all located on the far right (all in the same location). I would have prefered to have them spread out and along the back side of the unit (in addition to moving the ethernet port to the rear side as well)!"

"I had a great experience with Mailbal. Once the payment cleared, the turn around time for them to ship my laptop was about 24 hours.
The actual laptop is a beast - extremely well designed and everything is solid and works beautifully.
Very impressed with the service as well as I had been in contact with them regarding pre-sales questions and they were extremely quick in their responses and very personable.

"My laptop has been great so far, no complaints at all. It runs everything i've thrown at it fast and looks great. Only issue I had with the whole process was that it wasn't shipped until several days after the 5-7 business day window they promised, but I would definitely order from them again. Just don't expect it to show up early by any means."

“Hi, you were unfortunate in that you caught Labor Day and two weekends, because if you look at your order - you placed it on Friday the 2nd, and it shipped out on Thursday the 15th, which is actually only 8 business days, when you remove the weekends and Labor Day.

So we only missed the 5-7 business day estimate by one day. :)”

"EXCELLENT service. My previous rating was a 1 star because I called twice and it sounded like they hung up on me twice. Not the case at all... My skpe was messed up but it didn't show up as a dropped call.
They were very friendly and knowledgeable. I sent the payment via bank wire. They e-mailed me the next day to let me know that they recieved the payment. I'm looking forward to getting this new laptop. I chose the X7200,6 Core I7-980X 3.46-3.7GHz, 12GB 1333MHz, 256GB 6GB/sec SSD, Nvidia GTX 580 SLI. This thing is gonna be a beast. I purchased this for the upcoming Battlefield 3 game and my old laptop was 5 years old and couldn't play any games. I've been a battlefield fan since 1942 and this is going to be the greatest game of 2011 imo. I'm anxious to see the new Morrowind Skyrim game on this beast of a laptop. I'll update the review again once I recieve the laptop in a few weeks. A+ seller, I'll highly recommend to any hardcore gamer."
