"Customer service was horrible! They shipped 1 of 4 packages to a completely off the wall address & then blamed me for gving a bad address. Then they blamed the warehouse & FEDEX and never accepted responsibility for the error. Only after filing a complaint with the BBB did a replacement order get sent. I will never do business with JC Whitney again! "

"Wrong item was shipped, and when I called, I was told that the product I ordered was no longer carried by J.C. Whitney.

However, I just checked again, and the item is still listed on your web site."

"On 7/10, I ordered an OBD II Code Reader, which on the site was listed as "In Stock". The price was supposed to be $99 + free shipping. Good deal, I thought.

The next day, I got a second confirmation with the following status: Expected to ship on 08/10/2006.

I sent an email inquiring about this, and the response I received was: "Thank you for you're email. I apologize that the item is on back order until 08/12/06. It will be shipped out just as soon as it becomes available. I apologize for the delay and for any inconvenience. Debbie"

That's not anything I didn't already know. I immediately called and canceled my order."

"In the first place, their website (JC Whitney) is extremely difficult to use. When you do place an order, you are sent a confirmation with the message that you can check the status and track the order, yet when you attempt to do either, you get a cryptic message that the order cannot be tracked. It's just TERRIBLE!!!!!"

ResellerRatings.com TOP REVIEWER!

"Let me first state that I have ordered through this company before, several times over the years, mostly through mail order. This was my first online order from JC Whitney.

I placed an order for seat covers on November 29, 2004, shopping strictly by final price with 'free' shipping. I received an immediate email stating that my order was confirmed. I recevid an email on December 1, 2004 stating that my order was shipped. I was not in a hurry to receive my package, so I let 10 calendar days go by before following up with my order. Upon using the 'status' or 'tracking' feature listed in my shipping notice email I was surprised to find out that my items were on backorder. The approximate ship date was listed as January 6, 2005. Rather than fume, and since I really wanted these seat covers (they were over $100 cheaper than everywhere else, so no wonder they were out-of-stock!) ,I waited. In the mean time I received several post cards from JC Whitney stating that my items were still on order and were listed with various ship dates as the weeks went by. Needless to say, the items were finally shipped and I received them on January 25 and 28, 2005.

The seat covers were originally going to be given as a christmas gift and were still given as such, just belated... They were of excellent quality and worth the wait. However, JC Whitney should have listed the item as out-of-stock or at least notified me of that status immediately.

For the record, I did contact customer service to follow up this transaction before posting this rating and they were apologetic, helpful, and understanding.

I will continue to look towards JC Whitney as an alternative to higher priced discount merchants, but be leary of shipping deadlines and in-stock status...."

"What I thought was a Undercover top for my Nissan titan. Turned out to be a small box of brackets for $756.00. I have sent it back and would warn anybody else to not order this kit # U19RSPT13601K . IT WILL COST YOU $8.75 TO SEND IT BACK. I'm still waiting to receive the credit."

"I have been a happy Jc Whitney customer for about 2 years until recently. It appears they have tightened their exchanged policies and dealing with some of their customer service reps have not been fun, especially on the international side.

I am outside the USA and must bundle my purchases to reduce shipping costs per item (i.e. no point ordering something for $20 and pay $30 in shipping).

My most recent ordeal started when they mistakenly only ship 1 of 2 items. After over a week's investigation, another one was to be shipped. Two more days passed and an email advised inventory ran out and a refund will be issued.

Here is the main problem...
1) Example, say the 2 identical items I order cost $30 to ship. Only 1 was delivered and a refund was issued along with $15 credit for shipping. Now I need a replacement (for the part out of stock) and pay for shipping again but ordering 1 item will incur about $25 in shipping. That is because the more items you order, the cheaper the shipping costs per item. Therefore, this method of refund and re-order ends up costing much more for shipping. This is especially true to replace lower amount items.

2) When I buy something for $100US, my bank charges me about $102. However, if a refund of $100US is issued, I only get back about $98. That is because all banks charge for buying / selling US currency. I know this has nothing to do with the merchant. However, I wish JC Whitney will not charge my credit card for something that is out of stock. By charging and refunding it later, I lose about 4% of the amount.

My biggest gripe still is the exchange policy (item 1 above). In the past, I was able to order a replacement part (for out of stock items) without incurring any additional shipping costs. They would even apply whatever promotional code used on the original order to the replacement one. Not anymore (unless you get an understanding rep) which makes your order a gamble.

Some customer service reps just keep passing you around in circles and I swear never to shop here again, but then you reach one that is extremely friendly and helpful, and you're willing to give them another try. It is a hit and miss. In the end, I finally had a couple of great reps that basically resolved all the issues. However, it is too bad it took over 10 hours on the phone (over the course of a few days) to reach someone that was helpful. My replacement parts finally arrived 5 weeks later (from the initial delivery). Therefore, although it's finally resolved, it was bitter sweet.

In the future, I will call in (instead of ordering online) to confirm inventory. The out of stock items and refund/exchange policy was a major cause of headache on the recent orders!"
