"AVOID! AVOID! AVOID!

I ordered from the Internet since they do not provide any contact numbers nor do they answer the phone numbers I was able to find based off their website registration.

On Tuesday the 28th of August the CPU cooler I ordered was listed as "in stock". Their FAQ indicates that if an item is not shipped within 24 hours they would send an email with an explanation. Since this was my first order through them I was proactive and used their website form to initiate contact. I received a response approx. 2 hours later via email indicating, rather snidely, that the item was listed as on "backorder" until the 29th of August, but they would cancel the order for me if I desired. I very much desired this. Well I've got a screenshot of their site which as of 2:50pm CDT shows they have 54 of the coolers in stock but also show at the top of the page that the item is backordered with an ETA of 8-27-2007.

Too many contradicting stories for my comfort. I'll never use this e-tailer again and I will urge all others to avoid them as well.


EDIT:
In light of the response below by Heatsink Factory I would just like to clarify a few things.

First if an item is "backordered" you can't have 54 "in stock"; the backorder ETA date was not there when the order was placed; when it did show up at first it was 2 day in the past; and finally that if I hadn't been monitoring the order status and then initiated contact to find out why the order hadn't shipped I would not have known about the delay.

There was no contact made by the company to me as is stated below so lets be honest there. Actually had that occurred I would probably have been far more understanding.

Being human and making mistakes is fine but when there are more than three versions of what's in stock or when it's expected to arrive it's too much discrepancy for my comfort in today’s world. Especially when I have to initiate contact to find out what the problem is!

I should have been contacted PRO-actively (can anyone say "auto-generated email") and the CSR needs some additional etiquette training in dealing with customers. Oh, and get a phone number published and then actually answer the line like a real company for when problems or questions come up. (admittedly this is more a personal issue than a tangible negative).

“Wow, the first bad review in over 7 years! We try to make everyone happy but unfortunately it’s not always possible.

We did goof up on this customers order. We put the wrong date for the ETA of a backordered item on our site. Sorry, we are human! After we noticed the typo we notified the customer immediately. Other customers (three customers orders were delayed) were very friendly and understanding about the mistake. ”

"Order has been placed for a week, all I got was only a receipt through email - no information at all about shipping information. I tried to call and email, but have gotten no response at all. The product was labeled as "ship on same day", how the hell would that be true if I'm still sitting here after the whole week of wondering if my order has been shipped yet. All my computer parts were ordered the same time, and they have all arrived. Now that I have to wait for the stupid heat sink from this merchant (heatsinkfactory.com) before I can start putting together my new computer. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!

Update: Checked the store's website couple times again...Now I finally see a "little" note stating that they won't reopen until January 2, 2008. They should have included this notice at our checkout, or at least TOP of the homepage so that everybody can see. I will just wait now and see if they really ship my order on Jan 2nd before deleting my previous comment."

"ordered a fan. it never arrived. after 3 weeks, heatsinkfactory told me that because the USPS said "delivered" they could not blindly trust that I had not received the fan. So they have my money and I have no fan.

great customer service."

"I was somewhat disappointed on the handling of my last order. I placed an order on a Thursday night, but it didn't get shipped out until the following Monday--and thus did not arrive until Wednesday. Most people here seem to have received faster service than that, but I didn't, hence the rating.

I also don't care for the HeatSinkFactory.com site design at all. The site navigation leaves much to be desired, for one thing: In order to browse multiple product pages, I have to manually open new browser windows, because the fly-out menus used don't allow links to be opened in new windows. Also, only tiny pictures of products are shown, and they cannot be enlarged. Finally, there are no manufacturer or product links provided."

"I tried out this vendor when NewEgg didn't have the heatsink I wanted in stock. They had one of the best prices, including shipping. Delivery was reasonably quick.

While placing my order I noticed a bug in their web site and emailed them about it. They responded promptly, and thanked me with a coupon."

"I ordered a Alpha PAL 8045 through their website. Very pleasant emails confirming order.

When I got the package, I opened it up and found that the product box had been dropped prior to being placed in the shipping box. The Alphas cooling fins were slightly bent. Rather then go through the hassle of returning it (I needed it NOW to fire up my computer), I straightend them myself (GGGGRRRRRRRRR!). What kind of reseller ships a customer obvious damaged product? An un-ethical one. That's my first and only experience with Heatsink Factory and I will NEVER order from them again.

EDIT> Response to resellers reply. I sent them my money and they sent me damaged product. Who's "evil" and "unfair"?

“As you can see from our other very positive comments below, we take excellent care of our customers and any problems they might have right away. We checked our archived email and there was never any request to have the PAL8045 replaced by this person. If there was we would have been happy to send him a new one.

The transaction date he used on this form is wrong, the order was placed on 10-13-01. Why this guy all the sudden decided to be evil and post this unfair rating for an order placed almost two years ago is bizarre and a mystery to us. ”
