My mom purhased a Tornado Electric Snow Thrower from them late last fall but got sick and was unable to assemble it. I travelled 6 hours to visit her this weekend and she asked me to assemble it for her, only to find that the equipemnt was improperly manufactured and could not be assembled as the connecting cord from the motor to the control switch was an inch too short and could not be mounted to the handle.
It wouldn't have mattered if the item had been open the day after arrival, or 50 years later...it was never properly manufactured to begin with.
After 1/2 hour waiting on hold on the phone, I was told that they would do nothing to resolve the issue. So I guess that they deserve their poor reputation after having taken advantage of a sick 73-year old woman."

"Heartland America is terrific...don't understand the bad reviews. I have been purchasing items from this site for years. When one of their items says "Factory serviced to meet original quality standards. May have slight cosmetic blemishes," then that item is refurbished and not new. They sell items for great deals and hard to find items. Really great site and great customer service."
"DO NOT BUY from this company. Warranty is only 30 days on everything. Bought 3300Watt Generator -- Great Price -- 1st time used it blew up. Customer Service said tough luck. Generator built for Heartland America, so you can not contact the manufacturer. BUYER BEWARE-----TERRIBLE COMPANY."
"Ordered 3 items. Two where defective. They sell mostly refurbished items. Don't buy refurbished. Most will have problems. I returned one but you have to pay postage and insurance, which almost half the cost of the item. Probably won't buy from them again after seeing all these negative reviews."
"This company has some interesting products, but they are often defective and returning them is a hassle. I recently purchased an item that worked for only 2 weeks. When I returned it, they wrote me back a letter that I had "violated" their return policy, and that they would consider my item abandoned. If you buy something from Heartland America, don't bother trying to return it. But some of the products are interesting, and as long as they work, can be a good value"
"This was my first order with Heartland America. Fast shipping and fast delivery via FedEx. The shipping charges were reasonable for this order. I ordered the Anders Nicholson Hi-Fi Stereo, the Tiffany Style Butterfly Lamp, and the Bowie Knife. All items arrived in good condition. I am very satisfied with this purchase from Heartland America. I plan on ordering from them again, if they offer something that I need or want. As with any other online vendor, a consumer needs to shop carefully when dealing with Heartland America. "
"I ordered by E-mail severl items gave the catalog number and code number off of the catalog. The computer order charged $65.00 shipping and the Cat. said free shipping. When I called to find out why they informed me I needed to send a E-mail to correct the problem. I did within minutes of sending the order. Now I am told I have to wait until the order arives and they will refund the shippping. I did bussiness with this same company several years ago and had the same type problems."
"A leather bomber jacket was ordered from the back cover of Heartland America's February 2006 catalog.
I specified XL Item No. D2-5688. The jacket arrived in a timely manner and in good condition. It appears to be of good quality and is heavy.
However, the jacket fits a little more snugly than I prefer. When I buy the XL size in other clothing, the garment fits rather loosely, in a manner that I prefer.
However, on the invoice sent with the jacket is the statement: @@@@ **SIZES RUN SMALL**. If I had known this when I placed the order, I would have ordered one larger size, 2XL Item No. D2-5689.
Because of this experience, I probably will not order from this seller in the future. I would wonder what important information the seller may not be providing in the ad. It would have been appropriate for the jacket ad to mention that sizes run small."
"This company manipulated my order. They put a "VALUE CLUB SPECIAL" and reduce my order and increase the price when I did the complete checkout. I called the company to fix the problem and they told me to call the next day, because they couldn't see the order. I called the next day and they told me that the order was already shipped out. I told them that I didn't want anything in the order because they were charging me extra money for stuff that I didn't order and they said that I can refuse the package and they will give a full refund for all the order because was their mistake. I refused the package to have my full refund, but they only gave me the refund for the items and not the shipping charges ($18.67). I called them again to check why they didn't gave me the full refund and they told me that they don't refund the shipping charges. I told them that everything was because their mistake and mischief, and that I was going to contact my credit card to put a stop payment for the complete amount.
SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! Don't buy from this merchant. "
"Absolutely the worst store on the planet. 1st sent jacket that was damaged. I contacted customer service and was told to include shipping charges with return. I waited a long period and did not receive a replacement jacket or refund for shipping. I contacted Heartland again and I was told that I needed to request a refund for my shipping under separate cover. I re-sent information for shipping refund. I am still waiting. Meanwhile, I was sent a new jacket. IT WAS THE WRONG JACKET!! I contacted customer service agin and was given the same return instructioons that did not work previously. I was granted a pre-paid return from Federal Express. I am still awaiting credit for my jacket and 1st return shipping. I was treated with disdain by all customer service reps. The fummy thing is that if it worked out I was going to purchase more than 300 jackets. BUYER BEWARE_SHOP ELSEWHERE!"
"ordered online, but no tracking showed up. Called on phone, then order made, but still didn't show on computer. Order actually arrived and Heartland couldn't tell me if the order was made!! GREAT product and price/ better than ebay--just research first on the web//they go for the lowest price refurbished remainder stuff// not the latest or best, but definitely the cheapest."

"Ordered the Anders Nicholson Home Stero in the Light Oak. What we received on 3/4/04 was a Mahogany colored unit which is identified in the catalog as a different Item Number. Called Heartland to return and since it was their error they should pay for the return. First they tried to say that oak comes in darker colors, this was definetely mahogany red, and then they said they would mail us a patch to ship back the unit. Well we are still waiting for this patch since 3/6/04 and thats after three requests. The people in their customer service department are less than truthful, so I suggest anyone ordering from them keep a record of all written and phone conversations. What I think they are trying to pull is a bate and switch, because they don't really have what is advertised and ordered. We will never buy from this company again because its bad enough eveything comes from China, but when they down-right lie to the customers, forget it. My credit card company said I should give the unit to David Letterman and let him drop from a multi-story building to show my gratitude to HEARTLANDAMERICA.com."
"I bought a atomic clock, I doesnt update, it defeats the whole feature of the clock, its just a regular clock. I recieved my clock in a refrigerate immediately box, I thoguht maybe someone in the family had sent some meat, I put it in the freezer. I contacted them and they said that my clock will come in a different box than my weather station ( anohter thing I bought from them). I eventualy found out that my clock was sitting in the freezer, in the 100% beef patties box. Once I put the batteries in the clock i tried to update but it did'nt work, my weather station did'nt work either. The instructions that you get with the products is about a pargraph of information on how to use it. IT HAS NO TECH SUPPORT NUMBER FOR ANY PRODUCTS."
"I have dealt with Heartland America twice now (directly and indirectly) and have two stories to share. Roughly one year ago a friend of mine who isn't very technically inclined saw and ordered a VERY outdated, refurbished computer at the price of $300 and then $100 for shipping and handling. I won't give the specs of the computer system, but lets say he got ripped off about $360. Enough of that, it was his decision. But the true complaint comes from the fact that after the computer arrived, we heard something rattling inside of it when we moved it. Turns out that computer fell out of a truck apparantly BEFORE Heartland America shipped it off to my friend, and they never mentioned it until we contacted them after receiving it. Lucky thing the only damage was a tab broke off the case and it didn't ever latch, nothing too serious. But still, the fact that the company sold such an outdated computer for $400 (it was good back in the 1992-93 era) and then didn't mention that it fell off a truck really gets to me. And the ad for the computer made it seem like a top-of-the-line system to any non-computer person.
Story number two is what my most recent encounter with teh company was about. This time I was sent an Emerson DVD/VCR combo 19" television set as an early Christmas gift. I had no idea what was coming until it arrived, and then I noticed it came from Heartland America. On their site, they advertise this product as "Factory serviced to meet original QUALITY standards. May have slight cosmetic blemishes." After taking the set out of the box and setting it all up, I turned it on. At first the picture just seemed grainy and the colors were bleeding. I read through the manual, and adjusted every color setting on the thing. Try as I could, I couldn't get the picture to come in nearly as clear as my previous color television from 1993. Well, after leaving it run for around an hour, I looked and noticed now it was washed out in a blue color, off on the right and bottom by about three inches, and wavy lines / splotches were moving all around it. At that point I couldn't even look at it without getting a headache. So, this 'like-new' television set ended up having a bad picture tube within an hour after I got it. Also, the DVD player would NOT play a retail DVD, until the third attempt.
Did I mention the fact that they claim this particular item (quite a few years old by the looks of it) is $350 retail, and they sell it for $230. Well, according to Walmart.COM a brand new version of this set is just a few bucks more than what they sell it for, and its new!
They do offer a warranty of type which I still have yet to fill out, but I can either exchange it for other (old, low-quality) products from their store or I have to try and get a refund, which won't work out to well as this was a gift.
Bottom line: Out of two experiences with them, none have been desired. If you are looking for the technology of yester-year, for prices that aren't too competitive, good luck with these folks."
"Is it possible to give them 0 stars?
