"Very happy with my purchase. Yes, they charge freight surcharge but the total of my order is still lowest with Furniture Authoriy compared to other stores. so, yes i'm happy with my purchase."
"I usually don't buy from sites that I don't know and it is even less often that I check the reviews of a site before I buy from it. My purchase from the Furniture Authority will remind me to keep both in mind before ever attempting to order something from an unknown site again.
I decided to buy the couch from this site because there was no tax, and free shipping. I bought a sofa from here and really only would have saved $34 from the other reputable retailer who was selling it for less but had shipping and tax. But hey if you can save $34 why not right? Well not from Furniture Authority.
A couple days after my purchase, like many other reviewers on here, I got an email that there would be a freight charge of $140 effectively making this couch more expensive than anywhere else that I could have bought it. I wished that I had read the fine print before going through with the purchase, but I didn't. I was in a rush to get furniture quickly and that is where I am at fault. However, there was no writing on the description of the small space living couch that freight charges might apply, so I didn't think of it. Also they have no set amount they can charge you extra so essentially they take your card and trap you in a typical bait and switch and decide to charge you whatever extra fee they desire.
It's as if the email telling you, you must pay more than what you agreed upon is meant to anger the consumer so that they cancel the order (good luck with that) and still have to pay them 30% for nothing because of their very fine print restocking fee and Zero don't ever think of canceling your order policy. Also note they charge you a restocking fee when they have nothing to re-stock as in the case of the couch which was not even shipped or in their possession.
The worst part of all of this is that when they decide to charge you more they tell you to respond to the email to accept the charges so that they can ship your item. I never responded to the email and they charged my card whatever price they deemed fair anyway.
I have disputed the charge on my AMEX (but fear the restocking fee), and have written a complaint to the county that this business is located in, and suggest you do the same if you have had a similar bad experience, which you probably have, because no one will ever get free shipping from this company, and they victimize their customers. You should direct complaints here so that something can be done against this dirty establishment. The more complaints they get the better chance of actions being taken against the Furniture Authority.

If you are wise and lucky enough to research this company before making a purchase here then avoid it like the plague!

Followup:
After disputing this charge on my card, after this company charged the new price without authorization from me this company has harassed me every single day asking me to drop the dispute, and without using he exact words has called me a liar. For a company it is so hard to get in touch with they have no problem harassing you at 10, 11PM at night via email if thy don't get their dirty money.
I regret the day I stumbled upon this site thinking I would save $34. I can only assume that people that bother to write five star reviews on here for this company must be fake.
Never in my life have I dealt with any situation like this. When a consumer makes a credit card company dispute it is ridiculous that the company contact the consumer and fight with them over it on a daily basis. Poor business practice.
I hope to get out of this entire situation ok. If not I guess I will be suing them in small claims. What other choice do I have. I will also be calling the BBB of this county personally tomorrow, writing to the attorney general, and contacting the FBI to let them know that these people are out scamming people. If you were scammed, i'm sorry for you, but know your rights and do the same!
AGAIN AVOID THIS SITE LIKE THE PLAGUE IT WILL ONLY LEAD TO REGRET. --------------------- 05/21/2013
I got an email from them stating that they canceled my order and the refund has been processed. I don't see the refund on my statement as of yet and am not sure if they decided to keep 30%.
This transaction is still in dispute. Other things I have done thus far.
1. Contacted BBB Monmouth County with Freddie 2. FBI Cyber Crimes Unit 3. Scam Book 4. NJ Attorney General 5. Amex
I am hoping that all of this caused them to give me a full refund.
______________________________ Final Update 5/23/2013
I am happy to say that I was refunded the full amount. For a minute I thought it was because the Furniture Authority had a shred of moral dignity, but it turns out that the only reason they sent me that order cancellation email was because I won the dispute with AMEX based on the grounds that they charged my card a new amount that I never authorized. Therefore, my best advice to anyone in a similar situation with this company is to never respond to the email where they ask you to authorize a new amount with the surcharge. If they charge you anyway then dispute it on your card. Normally credit cards cannot do anything about re-stocking fees but they can do something about unauthorized charges.
I am happy that all of this is finally over. Although it was a terrible situation that I went through, I hope that my experience with this company will prevent others from falling into this trap, or help people to recover their money. "
"DO NOT BUY! We sold our furniture the day after we thought we purchased a sectional; hundreds of dollars less than other merchants. Too good to be tru. Sat on a futon for 2 weeks then we get an e-mail that it was damaged and they couldn't ship it. It was the only one we had. They cancelled our order and gave a refund. Not knowing what to do... I sent an e-mail demanding they do something else for me. No answer. Thankfully, I found a gorgeous down filled sectional on CL a day or two later. High quality and just what I was looking for! Glad this didn't work out. Screw you Furniture Authority."

"I've just had the same experience as others below: ordered and received confirmation of my order about 2 weeks ago---I emailed to ask when it would ship---they said this week---now another 2 weeks later I receive an email stating their freight broker has assessed an oversize fee that I must pay. Glad I put this on AMEX so I can cancel this scam place and buy somewhere legit.
"This is the most deceptive and dishonest company that I have had the displeasure of dealing with. I googled a particular bunk bed for my kids and I was going to purchase it from Walmart but saw that it was listed at the Furniture Authority for considerably less and free curbside shipping. I placed the order and they charged my card then about two weeks later I received an email stating; "The freight broker has assessed a re-packaging/fragile/over-sized item freight surcharge of $220.
As per terms of your order (attached below) you had agreed to the following: I agree/understand that for some fragile/over-sized items the freight brokers may demand a surcharge. If this happens then I have the option to agree to pay them OR get a price-match for landed price (cost+freight) to my zip code. I will provide the link: YES
If there is a website selling the same items for a final lower landed price to your zip code then we will match it. Email us the link and a screenshot of that webpage.
Please reply this email saying 'OK to charge total of $718.37 ($498.37 +$220 ) to my credit card on file' so that the order can be shipped out."
I emailed them that this was deceptive advertising and very dishonest and I am yet to receive a response.
"This is a scam !! i ordered a vanity 6 weeks ago,and i got an email that said my order was damaged and that it was the last in stock and my order would be cancelled. i got a email shortly after that that said to disregard the previous email. i have heard nothing about a refund. I have sent over 5 emails over the past 3 weeks and heard nothing back, i have called many many times and have never got to an actual person just an annoying automated voice! DO NOT. DO NOT . DO NOT buy anything from these idiots!!! please people save your money and spend it at a place that will actually give you what you ordered and customer service!!!!"
"I ordered a bunk bed for my children 4 1/2 weeks ago. I was told that it would be here with in 1-4 weeks. I emailed the customer service person yesterday and was told that... "At the time of pre-shipment inspection of your order, it was found that your order was damaged and cannot be shipped out as per our company policy and also as per our agreement with the shipping companies.
Unfortunately that was the only piece we had in stock and so we have to cancel your order. Your refund has been processed."
My order was inspected 2 DAYS after I ordered it... and apparently they were just going to keep my money and never tell me my order was not being shipped to me. I could have ordered my children a different bed or a bed from somewhere else if they had told me this, but instead they just neglected to tell me anything and my children have been sleeping on the floor in their sleeping bags for the past 4 weeks waiting for their bed to arrive.
I also went on their website today to check if that bed was still there and it is! So it obviously was not their last one they had (4 1/2 weeks ago) otherwise I think they would have taken it off their site for people to order.
I am VERY disappointed with this company and am wondering if they are just a scam."
"I placed the order for cock tail table it said free shipping after 3 weeks they E-mailed me and said there will be a $105 Surcharge for shipping after reading there reviews I decided to cancell the order no respounce for a week tried to call phone is fully automated and goes to voice mail only way is live chat if it is available and once they repounded they said there is 30% cancellation fee Don't walk from this place RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN"
"If anyone is considering buying furniture from The Furniture Authority... don't. It's a bait-and-switch scam company liquidating furniture from warehouses in the area affected by Hurricane Sandy currently, listing the items at cutrate prices with free shipping. Everything looks legit, you place your order, it goes through, they charge your card- sure enough, no shipping and the price listed- only to receive an email a week later telling you there is a surcharge of several hundred dollars to be added to the shipping. Normally, this is easy- cancel it and order somewhere else. They don't give you that option. They tell you that- in the fine print they hide quite effectively during checkout- that you have a choice to pay the surcharge, or they will match a lower price of a competitor selling the same item doing curbside delivery. Well, we found the same furniture set through Amazon for a couple hundred dollars cheaper and sent them the link and a screenshot of the site... and they refused to match the price. We just asked for a full refund and cancellation of the order, so we'll see how this goes. I've already documented everything to prove to our credit card company that it was a bait-and-switch false-advertising fraud to reverse the charges, and will flambé them with the BBB if they refuse to refund our money. However, I don't want anyone else to fall into their seductive little trap. Spread the word."
"I like shopping for my home at the furniture authority, I haven't been disappointed so far. Delivery is always quick and quality is good. I bought a dresser for my bedroom and the quality for the price is so much better than what I found in stores. I've been buying a lot from them since, the daily fairs offer hard to pass up deals. I just received a storage ottoman which is beautiful! Thanks! "

"Service here is nonexistent. I got a dresser and it showed up totally busted and nobody would return my calls or emails. The online chat at the website did not respond either. I'm resorting to putting in a claim at the freight company."
"FRAUD! Do not order from these people! They will give you a decent price, invoice you, and then try to cahnge you a couple hundred dollars extra for 'broker's shipping fees'. To cancel the order they want to charge you 30%. So these are the options: either you loose 30% for cancelation fees, you loose the entire order amount since they will not ship unless you pay extra, or you pay them what they want, way more than other places. Communication is almost impossible with them! As bad as it could get!"
"Do Not buy ANYTHING here.. These people advertisse free delivery then once you have paid them the tell you that the order you place is oversized fragile and want you to pay about 100 dollars more. You can never reach anybody on their phone. and they are very slow about emailing you. They have no sence of urgency I have still not recieved my merchandise from them. I am about to have to file a claim with my bank to get my money back. "
"Very happy with my purchase. Yes, they charge freight surcharge but the total of my order is still lowest with Furniture Authoriy compared to other stores. so, yes i'm happy with my purchase."
