"I know that some people are having some trouble with some of the compusa stores, but I was rather impressed by the one in Boise, ID.

I met a guy there named Jeremy that really helped turn around my viewpoint of retailers. He wasn't an ass and definitely wasn't a moron. I was just going into the store to check if they had a couple parts I needed for a system I was planning on building. I was very surprised to learn they were building systems again AND they were of high quality. I took a look at a couple of their demo machines and was really impressed. It was all brand-name high end parts. Since it was cheaper than buying all the parts seperately I got one of their builds and it has been great. It outperforms the benchmarks I've seen for alienware and falcon northwest machines and they warranty it for 2 years. Their add-on warranty is really good, but it's usually too much, but they included it so I was happy. I did talk to another guy named Soloman and he just seemed like an used car salesman, but Jeremy was really good and wasn't a hard sell at all."

"I purchased an item with a $90 rebate. Company went bankrupt and never sent rebate. I called CompUSA and they promptly sent me a check for $90. Great service! I usually don't shop there due to higher prices than other local sources but would buy from them again."

"This is the second time I have ordered from CompUSA auctions and my first experience has extremly good. I did have some problems with the first computer and had a terrible experience with HP. After explaining the situation to CompUSA, They responded in a very professional manner and corrected my problems completely to my satisfaction.

My contacts were with Wanda, and she handled all the transactions professionally.

I am having some problems with this present computer but, I do feel comfortable that they will be taken care of, as in the recent past.

It should be said that the problems with the computers were not the fault of CompUSA auctions.

Best regards,

Bill Giardina"

"CompUSA Retail Stores, not compusa.com

Just bought a Maxtor 60 gig 7200 drive. for $60 after Rebate. No problems here.

Previously bought a 80 gig WD for $120 after rebate. Received the rebate in about 6 weeks.
Bought several small items...such as CDR media, NIC's, sound cards. No problems at all. Bought a audigy x-gamer, and could not get the included game to work at all. Exchanged it twice with no hassle at all, and then finally just returned it for cash, no re-stocking fee. Price adjustments also took care of with no attitude or glares.
So far so good. Maybe I've just been lucky or my store just has friendly employees. :D

Will keep shopping here. Not online though...shipping costs, plus tax is too much.

"This is what I like about CompUSA. I go into the store, no one bothers me, no one offers to sell me crap I don't need, no one cares if I look at something. When I need help, there is someone around that can help or can get someone who can help. If they don't have it they order it for me from the other stores. The prices are great and they stock major brands.

And the best part... They don't tell me that I can have X for free if I agree to sign up for ISP for 2 years. Yeah when I leave they try and hand me an AOL disc. But they don't care if I don't want it.

Overall for the person who knows what they want or just wants to look around you can do it in peace (unlike Best Buy or Circuit City).

My only complaint is that they change prices frequently. If you see a good price there you have to act quick, because if it goes out of stock or if Sunday rolls around the price disappears.

Rebates: People here complain, but I have sent at leat 50 of these rebates in ("work" and personal) and never had a problem. One time they even price matched a cheap price from Best Buy on a rebate item, because I was buying a bunch of other stuff.

"I'm surprised that the rating is so low for CompUSA. My store in Orlando is great. I guess all stores are not created equal.

CompUSA is a store for people that either know what they want and don't want to mail order or people that don't know anything and need local service and support.

For example, if you want a high end video card and don't need it in a hurry, CompUSA probably isn't for you, you'd be better off with Newegg.

But if your video card goes bad in the middle of a project, CompUSA is for you. Or if you need somebody to install it for you, they'll install anything you buy from them for free.

Anyway, realize that a store like CompUSA has to cut costs in a lot of areas in order to compete with places like Newegg, and they do not fill the same niche. They may have to run on a skeleton crew at times, but that's the price the customer pays in order to have a computer superstore available locally with prices that are anywhere near reasonable. If you don't know what you want, research it online before you go in, you can't expect everybody there to know everything about thousands of different products that change daily. Do your own research.

I love CompUSA, but if I want a motherboard or a high end video card I'll order it online and get a better deal.

One last plus is their replacement plan. I bought my Geforce 4 for $400 dollars and got a replacement plan. If my card dies I just take it back with the receipt and they give me another one, for a year."

"Great price (along with a rebate) and fast shipping. The product arrived a day earlier than expected and in excellent shape."

"Ordered multiple sale items. Not only was this easy to find the items on their site, their on-line order status features are great. I ordered my items on Friday and have them now. Their order status section on their website details where your products are in the shipping status, includes links to fedex.com and even includes the fedex shipping details within the compusa site so you don't even have to leave their site. I've shopped many of the "big stores" online and they by far have the best, easiest and friendliest site in terms of placing an order and tracking it's whereabouts."

"I saw an ad for some memory at a good price. Provided my rebate check returns, service was great."
