"I ordered the Panasonic Lumix dmc-fz5 for $436,subsequently called a "chris" and was bombarded with extra products to purchase. When I politely declined to purchase a memory card, battery, or any other accessory, "chris" responded with an abrupt "we'll be shipping it shortly." and hung up. I called several days later to find that they still had not shipped my item. A rude representative then told me they would ship it "in a few days." I called three days later to find that the camera was on backorder and ended up cancelling my order out of frustration. This was approximatly two and a half weeks after I placed my order. I asked to have them refund my money and am waiting for the them to recredit my credit card. I do not understand how they have such a high rating on such shopping comparison sites as pricegrabber and shopzilla. When I later looked on resellerratings.com, I discovered that others had the same thing happen to them. I would never do buisness with them again. They are a disgrace to Online shopping."

"This was an awful experience. I found the item I wanted on their site, which clearly stated that it was in stock. I even called to make sure, and they told me it was in stock, so I placed the order. I checked the order two days later for a shipping ETA, and, of course, the site said it was BACKORDERED.

It took several calls and lots of holding, but I cancelled the order. I also sent an email just to be sure. 10 days later, I got a notice that my order had shipped. Of course, I'd already bought the item from Amazon and had been using it for a week.

Many more phone calls later, I finally got an incredibly rude phone rep who insisted I had never canceled the order. HE demanded that I send him the emails I had written for proof and then hung up on me.

And that's where we are now. The receptionist at my office accepted the package, so I didn't have the opportunity to refuse it. It's sitting on my desk and that phone dick over there is going to decide whether or not to refund me."

"WORST EXPERIENCE EVER ****DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!!

You MUST take all of the negative reviews seriously. Those with positive reviews are the very few that got lucky.

BEWARE...They will call you and pressure you to get more...DO NOT GET AN EXTENDED WARRANTY or anything other than what you want.

In short, I am out $150 !!!

The following is a copy of a demand letter from an attorney that I sent...

RE: order: BFW443351 and order: BFT154721

Dear Billing Department and Manager,

I write on behalf of Ruthann Smith who ordered a Canon XTi on February 8,2007. Subsequently, you debited her account for the amount of $643.00 plus the cost of shipping of $19.95.

Thereafter, she returned the camera to you, and on February 15,2007, she informed your sales representatives that she desired to exchange the camera for a CanonXTi with Lens Kit for the - price of $743.95. Butterflyphoto.com agents represented to Ms. Smith that she would receive a credit in the amount of $643.00 to be applied to the cost of the Canon XTI with Lens Kit. Butterflyphoto.com agents further represented that Butterflyphoto.com would only charge her account for an additional $93.95, the difference in price between the two products. To be absolutely clear that she understood your agents' representations, Ms. Smith confirmed with your agents that she would be billed ONLY for the DIFFERENCE of $93.95. Your agents assured her that this was correct.

Despite your agents' assurances, Butterflyphoto.com debited an additional $734.95, on top of the $643.00 Ms. Smith already had paid. Ms. Smith did not authorize Butterflyphoto.com to process this additional charge of $734.95. She only authorized an additional charge of $93.95.

Your agents negligently misrepresented to Ms. Smith that she would only be charged $93.95 in addition to the 643.00 she had already paid. Ms. Smith reasonably relied on your agents' misrepresentations. As a result of your agents' negligent misrepresentations and negligent business practices, Ms. Smith's checking account was overdrawn when you overcharged her account.

After several days, on February 22,2007, you finally reimbursed her for the additional $643.95. Nonetheless, Ms. Smith incurred overdraft fees for five days in the amount of $30.00 a day. You must reimburse Ms. Smith for the overdraft fees in the amount of $1 50.00 which she incurred as a direct result of your negligent misrepresentations and negligent business practices.

Butterflyphoto.com has jeopardized its reputation by engaging in such negligent practices. Additionally, by unnecessarily, negligently and without authorization debiting her account of the above referenced amounts, you deprived her of access to that money for five days. If Butterflypboto.com is a reputable company, then we expect that you will remedy your inconsiderate, unprofessional and negligent conduct. We insist that you reimburse Ms. Smith in the amount of $150.00.

They did not do anything! They didn't care.

If you value your money and time - don't ...DON'T... SHOP AT BUTTERFLYPHOTO.COM !"

"I researched the price of a Canon HG 10 high def. video camera on PriceGrabber.com. The best price was from ButterFly Photo. Looking at PriceGrabber's reviews of this merchant, which were very positive, I decided to make the purchase. It was shortly after I finalized the order that I saw the many negative reviews on this website. I started to get concerned for 2 reasons. One, it was a relatively expensive purchase and two, I needed it within the next 10 days as we were leaving on vacation.
I called customer service to express my concern of getting it in time. She told me to call the sales department with my order number and they would make sure it went out on time. I did that and spoke to a salesman named Richard. He was very pleasant and, although he did try to sell me some additional items such as an extra life battery and an extended warranty, he was in no way forceful. When I apologetically declined those purchases he said that there was no need to apologize. When I expressed to him my main concern about getting the camera in time, he told me he would upgrade the shipping to FedEx 2 day, also for free. He said that "this way you will have the camera for a week before your trip so you can play around with it." I sincerely thanked him and the camera arrived in 2 days in a factory sealed box. BTW, some reviewer had mentioned that the company's e-mail had his full credit card number in it. Their confirming e-mail to me had no such thing.
I certainly will consider B.Photo in the future as their prices are very good and most items have free shipping.
Update: 3/28/08- I went to put a review of Butterfly photo on Pricegrabber the other day. That was when I noticed the price of the camera had gone down $26. I called CS and spoke to "Rita", who had helped me initially. She told me they do not do price adjustments but could send me an accesory. We decided on a $50 leather camera bag. Since we were leaving for vacation in a few days, they Fedexed it overnight. Totally free. Their price, and Rita's customer service will cause me to consider BP in the future! Great experience!

"I purchased a television mount off of Amazon from Butterfly Photo. The mount had my specific television listed in the heading of the ad for fitment. I bought the mount and it did not fit. After returning the mount I left a negative feedback explaining the situation.

I then had several messages left on my phone to contact them to make it "Right" with my problem. I chose not to do so as I was to frustrated to deal with it. When I finally did answer the phone and talked to a gentleman who "seemed" concerned with making it right. He went over several options of fitment Etc. with some of the mounts they have available. I told him I was now looking at a Sanus model VMDD26B for $349 from Amazon. He said they didn't have one of those available but said he could get me a comparable model from Peerless for $400. No mention of I'll knock the $50 bucks off and give it to you at a discount for your trouble. So I told him no thanks and then Incredulously he launches into a persuasion for me to remove my negative review from Amazon. I asked if they had removed the Heading of the ad that included my specific model. He said yes, but I checked it when I got off the phone and it was still up. I cant believe he was trying to get the review removed. He was even trying to give me specific instructions step by step on how to remove it from Amazons site.

Then I receive another call from the same man the very next day saying they had removed the Ad and would I now remove my negative review.

That is an extremely poor business practice when someone tries to coerce you into removing your review. It was their company’s mistake and the review was justified.

Now I must put up with Butterfly photo treating me very unfairly. They tried with two separate phone calls two days in a row to get me to remove my negative review from Amazon.com. C'mon...harassment two days in a row ??!!

To pour salt in the wound I checked Their website and their peerless mount listed is only $319.00. It does need the mounting plate for another $149. So instead of working with me to make me FEEL like I WAS a VALUED CUSTOMER. He was again just concerned with getting the feedback removed.

I had also received an email from their Customer Service Manager Dan Woods. When I returned that email with my story of displeasure...Guess What?? I never heard from him again.

So Buyer Beware from a company that obviously doesn’t care about their customers and only worries about negative feedback.

"We ordered the Canon Rebel T1i DSLR camera (body only) because they had the cheapest price compared to everyone else (an extra 10% from google really helped). After a few days, they called my wife but she wasn't able to answer the phone, and since they didn't leave any messages, my wife never called back.

A few more days went by and still no shipping confirmation. Then they called my wife again and did leave a message this time about calling them back (didn't say why though). So my wife called them back but no one answered. Another week went by and still no shipping confirmation, so I finally called them and asked if they plan to ship the camera. They first say they will ship immediately, then later emailed me saying that they are out of stock! I couldn't believe it so I called them back to cancel, of course, they somehow managed to find some more in the back. So they said they will ship out immediately but that took a few more days and I finally got it after more than 3 weeks.

I would never buy from them again. The price was good but obviously, they want to sell other overpriced accessories with the call back (or useless warranty). There are plenty of other online retailers who ships promptly and they don't cost that much more (hello Newegg)."

"Rude lady at Billing department. Called today to check the status of my refund on cancelled order of my HDTV (because it was holding lot of my credit in credit card), lady was very rude and she did not even explain whats going on. Without explaining she transfered my call to someone in customer service, where new agent explained me whats going on.
Also when My HDTV arrived(from previous order) it was broken. I can understand it can happen during transportation but atleast you should have good customer service. And we are buying goods worth thousands of dollars.
THanks"

ButterflyPhoto, ButterFly Photo / outlookaq.com rep has responded

“Sir, I apologize for the situation that you had. You need to understand that you placed 2 orders with us. You did not check with us or your bank before placing another order which put you over your credit limit. This was not our fault.”

"I bought a Nikon camera from this store for about $500. After several delays while they called me and tried to sell me $100 worth of unnecessary accessories, it arrived broken. I called the same day, but Butterfly said the item was no longer in "as new" condition. Their web site, to which they referred me, does not describe "as new" condition. I had to send the camera back to the manufacturer, and I still haven't gotten a response from them. Beware of these crooks! "
