"These guys are scammers. Keep away from them at all costs. I got burned to the tune of $2,750.

I was actually on my way over to BH Photo Video. I had done my research and had my price list so I knew what I was after. On the way down 50th from my hotel I saw Broadway Computer and Video and thought I may as well check some prices in there before I make my purchases at BH. That was the biggest mistake of my life.

When I got to the store they asked what I was after. I showed them my wish list with the prices I wanted to pay. Things started of well. They matched the price on the Rebel XTI camera that I was chasing, and that gained my trust. When they told me they didn't have the lens I was after they offered something different which supposedly was much better. At this point I was in deep waters because I didn't have knowledge of that product (my bad), but I foolishly trusted that they would stay on track with the first good price they gave me and keep the prices reasonable.

To cut a long story short I purchased several items, most of them having a markup of 400-700% more than market rate. Memory cards worth $50, sold for $350. They kept trying to distract me with 3 or 4 people serving me at once, asking me if I wanted a drink or anything. I was served by Marty, Tito, and Robert. They were all super friendly and warm at the time but meanwhile they were ripping me blind.

When I got back to my hotel I had realised that they actually charged me $5,200 for $2,200 worth of products. At the end of the day I was stupid for believing their deals and I don't mind being overcharged a little and paying "stupidity tax", but this is absolutely ridiculous.

I actually went back and asked for a refund, but they said no chance. The store manager Robert said "we have a right to make whatever profit we want".

I can't believe these people can get away with this. I was really enjoying New York, but now I don't know what to think of this place.

Contact me if you would more information on taking action against this business theimmovableobject@gmail.com"

"Omg!! I am so freaking mad. Never I repeat NEVER shop at this store. It is a complete SCAM. Just recently purchased a wide angle lens which I have just found out is about 4-5 times less (online) than the amount I actually paid for it. I should have known better, judging by how quickly the salesman Benny (bet that is not even his real name) managed to coerce me into purchasing the item, He had practically cashed in and bagged the item before i even said yes. I had a bad feeling about it initially, but he managed to convinced me saying the reason he was able to give it to me at such a "discounted" price was because it was a free promotional item they had received from the distributor. All potential buyers be warned, prices marked are probably immensely overpriced so sellers can fool you into thinking you're getting a really good discount. "

"was as tourist in NY - had problem with camcorder Canon Hi8, entered 1623 Broadway and accepted exchange proposal for new digital Sanyo VPC-CG65EX at 1,516$; were told "a special promotial price"! The day after found out these camcorder could be bought at less than 400$!!!
Even a tourist 'in trouble' deserves a fair treatment: Shops with this kind of business practice( Italian maffia?) SHOULD BE BLACKLISTED!!

"We called 12/26/2008 because we received an email asking us to call in after placing an order 12/24/2008. We attempted to order a JVC EVERIO HD6 Video Camera.

I had relatives visiting us here in the United States who were from out of country. Broadway Video advised us when we called that they did not accept overseas credit cards so I called in to use my USA card. As soon as they had my USA credit card information, the bait and switch started. I am quoting the sales rep "Oh, I have the EXACT same camera, you will love it..but you need the 2 hour, 4 hour or 6 hour battery. The battery the camera comes with is only good for 20 minutes". A HUGE RED FLAG appeared in front of my face.

So we decided to get the 2 hour battery for only $69.00 more. Classic bait and switch. So I asked...is there anything else we might need? "Yes, you will also need the special battery charger for the 2 hour battery". You mean I can't charge the 2 hour battery with the camera? No, you cannot. You need the separate charger. Another $69.00, a special price if you take it with this order.

That did it for me. This is bait and switch. We found the lowest price for this camera by using Pricewatch. And the danger in using Pricewatch is that all too often the lowest price is manipulated by the vendors in order to receive the highest ranking in a category.

I terminated the transaction by clearly saying, rather loudly... "CANCEL THE ORDER"...."DID YOU HEAR ME... I SAID CANCEL THIS ORDER". The operator on the other end of the phone (classic New Yawk accent) "I heard ya the first time, cancel the order".

If you buy from this store after reading this review you really do deserve what you get."

"I needed a cellphone and went into this store. Explained that I wanted a tri-band phone so I could use it in Europe also and that I didn't want a real expensive one. They gave me a good deal $150 including 100 call minutes.

At the register they told me the total was $200.95 (there was a activation fee for the calling card of $35 added they didn't tell me about, and ofcourse tax). Ok, I payed the $200.95 and was walking away when another salesman said: "You still owe me $50". I went back and explained what the other sales man sold me and for what price. The other salesman said: "No, the phone was $250, not $150". I was with there with New York born and raised Patti and she was like: "Hey, I am from New York and you're not gonna rip us off! We're not gonna pay more or we'll return it and we want our money back!". The manager came and finally said: "Ok, they made a mistake, it's ok".

So you can get a good deal there, but make sure to know the right price and let the sales people make very clear what your total bill will be before you purchase anything (or make sure Patti is with you)."

"This company is terrible on all accounts. They are not truthful about and product, inventory, shipping and misleading about price. Don't be sucked in by prices. You will be sorely disappointed."

"Do NOT buy from this shops.
These people are frauds and liars.
I went in and asked for a very specific Nikon 18-200 lens.
The salesperson, Mr. Tito R. (most probably a fake identity too), said that due to plastic parts the lens was technically inferior to a Sigma lens he had to offer which was only slightly
more expensive. He sold me the lens which turned out to be way inferior for triple the price. I discovered the scam when I looked up the specs of the lens in the internet the day after. I returned to the shop to return the merchandise. Mr. R. denied everything that happened the day before except having sold the lens.
These people should be locked behind bars, because they willfully and purposefully misinform people to obtain monetary gain. I will be contacting NY authorities to have this shop prosecuted. Do not even go near this shop....

"My husband and I cannot believe that we were so stupid. We were out on the town for our anniversary and fell into this den of thieves. These people are thieves. They mark prices on products in their store at 3 to 4 times the mfgs. suggested list price. To give a case in point: a Bower 0.38x high res macro lens super wide angle that is selling all over the internet for $89, they have with a price of $649 and they sold it to us for $340. A no name 512 mg digital picture card that should not sell for over $89, they have marked for over $200 and they sold it to us, they said, for $99, but when we saw our itemized bill, with no specifics like numbers or product names on it, they had charged us $149 for this. A camera bag that they told us they were giving us as a gift for our large purchase and to close their deal, was charged on our bill at $69.99 and it is a bag from China that you can buy for $15.
A Canon Powershot S1 IS has a ticket on the box marked $899, although you can find this camera for as little as $219. When we called these people the morning after out purchase and told them what we had found out: that they had charged us for merchandise they had promised to give us and overcharged on everything. They said they don't give back money but if we want a battery charger, they will send us one. I emailed and faxed them with proof of prices elsewhere and they have ignored me. When we entered their store, we honestly told them that we were not ready to buy as we hadn't done our home work on the type of digital camera, etc. that we wanted. We just wanted to look and get some ideas. We were literally overwhelmed by a crowd of salesmen, led by Tito, who kept saying that we should have a heart, they need money. He complained that his girl friend had already called three times and that her should have left, and that we were his last customer and that he was giving us great prices so he could go home, blah, blah, blah. I know, I know, we were so happy out on our anniversary that we ignored all the signs of con men and we bought, under duress, but we did buy from these people at least 3 times what we should have paid. How a store like this can stay in business, we cannot figure out. I guess most people are so embarrassed when they realize how badly they were taken, they just keep quiet about it. But my husband and I are determined to let everyone possible know about our terrible experience so that they will avoid this store at all costs. "

"These people are scam artists who target tourists. I walked in off the street looking for a memory card for my digital camera. The salesman, Michael, led me to a locked case and said he had 512 Mb or 2 Gb cards available. He took out a 512 Mb card and handed it to me. I flipped over the package and saw a list price of $162 or $169 (I forget, and he peeled the sticker off the package so I don't have it). While I had no idea how much memory cards cost, that seemed a little much. He said the price was actually $89, but he'd sell it for $75. While I was paying, he opened the package, then asked for my camera so he could insert the card. I later called the company that made the card because I was suspicious, and was told the list price was $8. I called to complain and the manager, Sam Cohen, said I could mail it back and he'd refund my money. I sent it back by certified mail, but it was refused and returned to me. The credit card company took the charge off my account, but later called to say the company claimed it had refused the package because there was no return authorization number, which they'd never mentioned before. I've now sent it back again and am awaiting the outcome. These people prey on tourists and those who didn't do their homework before coming it. I recommend reporting them to the Better Business Bureau and the NYC Dept. of Consumer Affairs."
