I was astonished at the relatively low rating the Apple Store gets. I've been using the Apple Store probably since its existence. This is an Apple intensive family and purchases have averaged at least $2,000 per year over the last 10 years. Lot's of orders.

All I can provide is my experience. Courtesy, very knowledgeable employees, the employees can be firm at times (they do not tolerate ego), extremely fast shipping unless its not in stock (in which case you know it) and excellent post sale support and service if needed.

I have used Apple's retail locations twice. Yes, its a pain. However, if I had to deal with the people those employees deal with, I would close all my stores.

Very highly recommended.

Bought new Macbook with cable and free iPod Touch (Education Store deal). Paid $18 for 2-3 day shipping; obviously don't use it unless you need it, but I did, and it paid off - the computer got to Wisconsin from China 48 hrs after ordering. Packing outstanding. The iPod has big scratches on back, obviously a return or refurb, and it's the previous model with version 2 of OS on it (version 3 was already out), but hey, it works fine and it's free (you have to pay up front and file for rebate on line, which they make easy to do). The computer itself is just dandy, of course.
[UPDATE 11/09: Thought I'd add this since I've read of past problems with Apple rebates. In my case, everything worked well: form was easy to complete on-line, rebate status was available on-line and there was e-mail notification; I got the rebate check in a few weeks, as expected.]

Two negatives: (1) getting the FedEx authorization to return my dead old Powerbook for free recycling, under Apple's recycling plan. Although I dutifully checked the appropriate box when ordering on-line, the promised e-mail did not come, and it took one web form, 2 e-mails, and 5 phone calls to extract it, arriving 8 days after delivery. They shouldn't have made it that tough (some of the Apple employees I spoke to on the phone knew less about their recycling program than I did). [Update Jan 2010] (2) The Firewire cable they sold me failed after 4 months of very light use (meanwhile a comparable cable I bought from MyCableMart.com for 1/3 the price - $10 vs. $30 - is better built and has worked fine). Apple passed the buck - said I had to go through the manufacturer (Belkin). So they don't stand behind non-Apple products they sell; I recommend buying cables you need elsewhere.
UPDATE 11/24/09 Another good purchase experience with a Mac Mini and peripherals. Shipping prompt (except Magic Mouse, shipped separately by DHL which seems to slow things down), packaging professional, everything worked upon setup and poweron.

Ordered refurb Ipod Touch 2g 8gb. Shipped quickly. Powered up, display crashed within 15 minutes, icons disappear, pale yellow, magenta screens. Despicable quality control. If this is how Apple has to pump up its stock price - by selling junk - maybe people should consider other options.

I ordered the Magic Mouse for my iMac the day it was announced which was the 20th of October. It clearly stated that it would take 5-7 days to ship since they didn't have them in stock yet. After 7 days, it still hasn't shipped, so I called customer service. Their service was absolutely fantastic. I told them that it's been over 7 days and they immediately upgraded me to Priority Overnight Shipping at no charge. It arrived in good shape and on time. The Apple Store provided me with their best service again!

I've always had positive experiences with Apple. I always choose their free shipping because its fast. 3 business day shipping. Why pay $18 for their 2-3 day shipping? Great, economical packaging. Great products with no issues (knock on wood). Will always purchase from Apple unless something drastic changes but I doubt that will happen.

Very good experience with the Apple store. Ordering process went well and payment went smoothly and was very convenient. Product was shipped the day I ordered and it arrived 2 days later, within the stated arrival dates. Will buy from again.

Apple is the worst company I have ever bought from. You walk into their store because your shoddily build ipod broke, ask for help, and they tell you to make an appointment at their "genius bar" to meet with a "genius". Naively thinking that a "genius" is someone who can do more than tie his own shoes, I made an appointment. I came in at the appropriate time, but I had to wait for 1/2 an hour because the geniuses were "backed up". When I finally got service, I handed the ipod to the "genius", he immediately attempted to do the exact same things that I had already tried at my house. Guess what, the ipod still didn't work. Since it was out-of-warranty I had two options, replace an obsolete ipod for as much as I paid for it, or get 10% off an overpriced new one. I guess I'm stupid for thinking that the "geniuses" might be useful for anything other adding body heat to the room. Turns out that they can't actually open anything up and fix it. What they do is look at it say "Hey it's broken, but I can't fix it." If they can't fix anything what the hell does Apple pay them to do? Their warranty is pathetic; 1 year, but with good reason; they already know the item will fail on you so they give you an absurdly short warranty. I will NEVER buy anything from Apple again, and I advise everyone else to do the same.

Ordered a refurbished iPod Touch at Apple Store for a great price and free shipping. It was delivered in 4 days (despite the fact that the shipping originated from China). The product was wrapped in tape and factory-sealed in a white box with new ear buds. The screen was slightly skewed and there was a very small chip on the metal case. Called Apple Store. They issued a RMA and prepaid FedEx shipping label right away. I was told that the replacement would leave the warehouse as soon as FedEx received the returned package. Apple Store used next business shipping and the replacement arrived quickly and in great shape. Great service! Will definitely order from them again.

This company is showing its arrogance to its potential customers. I am one of the "victims". I placed an order of a MacBook online and never received a confirmation email. I felt a bit strange although the order is valid when checked my Apple account whose user name is my email address. I had been checking online status for a few days and hoped that the order will arrive in time as a Birthday gift. A few days later, I received an email from Apple, as they indeed had my email address, stating that my order has been canceled. The reason of cancellation was because the items I ordered were for resale purposes. I called in and was told that they've found my email address as a reseller on resellerratings.com. Before hanging up the phone, I quickly went to that webpage and searched for my email/user name, neither came up as a meaningful entry. Without being able to explain any further why the Apple took such action, the Apple rep could not provide any more help other than telling me to try to order again, and probably get the same rejection. Yeah, Apple, keep the arrogance to yourself. I never had a good impression about your products and always kept away from them. I must've been out of my mind to make this purchase. I'm glad it's over, and never again.

I recently purchased Canon Vixia HV30 from Apple thru shopAmex network. After placing order the order acknowledgement that I received was for Canon ZR950. This is kind of bait-and-switch tactics from seller. I called back to cancel order as that was not a product that I wanted.

I purchased a MacBook Pro from the Apple store. I had several problems with it in the first couple months, a call to Apple and I was told they would repair it at no cost. I sent it off and received it back just 4 days later with everything repaired!

Several months after this I had some more problems with the computer and another call to Apple and they said they would repair it. So I sent it in again, however this time it took 3 weeks to get it back to me and when it did come back it was in poor condition. Another call to Apple and they said that they would send me a replacement at no charge! When I got the new computer I found it was an updated model which was faster and better equipped!

Although I had problems with that computer as well (reliability seems to be worse than PPC days :/), so I called Apple yet again and they told me to try to do an erase and install. After the issues continued after the aforementioned erase and install, I called and they sent me yet another replacement at no cost! I did purchase the AppleCare plan, but it has more than paid for itself. I will say that each call got me a person who spoke perfect english and were more than helpful. The service is fantastic, will buy from again!

I recently purchased a 500gb MyBook external hard drive to store photos and other documents. The Apple store sales person convinced me eSata was the way to connect my laptop to the external hard drive. I purchased an eSata module for my MacBook Pro and plugged it in. When I looked in the box for the external hard drive, there was no eSata cable to hook the hard drive to my laptop.

There was firewire and USB cable, but no eSata cable. I searched the Apple web site. No eSata cable is available for purchase. I went to the Apple Store. The manager told me corporate dictates what he stocks on the shelf. He has no eSata cable. I asked why he would sell me an eSata module for my laptop if it will not hook up to my external hard drive because they do not carry eSata cable. I have a product that is useless, the module I plug into my laptop. I use the firewire cable so the laptop can talk to the external hard drive, but I wanted the eSata hookup.

Question: why doesn't Apple carry the eSata cable, but they sell everything else? Dumb. I was all excited about using the eSata connection, but can't. I have to go to another vendor to get the cable. Usually Apple has it together, but not on this issue.
