"Ordered a camera while Adorama was closed for the holidays not realizing it wouldn't get to me for weeks. So I cancelled the order. Would have been perfectly fine except they ignored me and shipped the camera anyways.

Had to file a claim with my CC company and the BBB to get my money back."

"I have spent thousands, and I do mean thousands, at Adorama. I've been satisfied 100% of the time with their speedy customer service. I've done a few returns over the years for personal reasons, and I've never had a problem.

On this particular order, which totaled over $1,600, everything arrived as described, in a securely packed box. (This order was for a Canon 70-200 f2.8L lens and some accessories, by the way.)

Incidentally, about 95% of the time, the packages arrive quicker than promised.

In a Web full of scam artists, this is the one to go to, I unequivocally say this is the site to shop at. I check up on their prices every once in a while, and they are always right where they need to be - competitive with the REPUTABLE dealers on the Web; usually a few dollars either way. Typically I just order from Adorama without even doing much checking around, because I'd rather deal with them than with an unknown company to save just a few dollars. And if you find a Website where you can save a FEW HUNDRED compared to Adorama, RUN! Those are the scam sites.

A few other things that bear mentioning about Adorama...

Everything that is included in the original manufacturer box is always included - some stores strip that stuff out and the unwitting customer ends up paying extra for a lens hood, batteries, etc. This DOES NOT happen with Adorama.

Customer service is friendly and helpful, but prompt. If you ever visit their superstore, you'll know why - it's an insanely busy place - they'll take care of you, no question, but they're so busy, they don't have time to shoot the breeze. So, if you call and the person on the other end seems prompt, it's nothing personal - they just have lots to get to.

I have a little experience with their demo and refurbs, and they seem legit, too - a demo model can save you some serious dollars with a like-new product.

This site and these guys get 10 out of 10, hands down. "

"I ordered two “in stock” items on 13 December. I receive an email stating that my order was “available to ship on 15 December. My order did not actually ship until the 3rd of January. Once I received my package I found that only one item had been shipped and the invoice said the other item was on backorder. What? I called Adorama and was told that they had the remaining item and it would be shipped in two days. Eight days later I called again and was told that they had my item and it would be shipped the next day. My overall impression of Adorama is not a good one. It took a month and a half to receive two supposedly in stock items. Their service department seems to be instructed to say whatever sounds good regardless of what the truth is. I just don’t think Adorama cares."

"Copy of email I sent to Adorama which they completely ignored:

Dear Adorama,
Re: Order #: 2362519-1
Date: 09/17/05
Shipped 11/08/25
Invoice #: 2532882

Although I ordered the Lexar 1 GB, 60x High Speed Series, Professional Secure Digital (SD) Memory Card on 09/17/05, you did not ship it until 11/08/05, almost two months later.

This delay cost me $50, as the rebate offer on this item had expired by the time I received it. Since the Lexar SD card was in stock, I see no reason for this tardiness.

Fairness dictates that you should offer me some compensation. I would appreciate your favorable consideration.

Thank you.

Peter Ronai

I have still not received any reply to this communication."

"False rebate offer advertisement. Order was submitted on last day of rebate offer on March 28, 2008 but Adorama didn't process the order until 2 days later when rebate offer has expired. When emailed to Adorama to fix this purchase date, no response. When this review was posted, Adorama claim my email and phone number is invalid instead of reponding to my request to put the correct purchase date on my invoice so I can get their rebate as advertised.

How can this be when I used PayPal to pay for my purchase? Anyone with PayPal knows the email address used with PayPal has been valided. Adorama made a bad public response at the expense of a $10 rebate.

What does everyone think about Jerry Greenbaum's response:

Adorama regrets your dissatisfaction. You ordered a memory card for $19.95. Unfortunately, your email address that you gave us does not exist! Your phone number has been disconnected. We would love to have helped you...but you are not reachable!!!! The only thing false here is your information you gave us!

Sincerely,

"I have had a terrible experience with this company that I am still trying to get resolved. I ordered a specific sized mat for a painting that I was going to give as a gift. FIrst they sent the wrong size that was packed in a box that was actually too small for it and kind of bent it. It wasn't the size I needed anyway, so I didn't address the packing issue. Customer service said just keep it and they would send the correct size. The next mat they sent was again the wrong size. They then said they had to check with the warehouse to find out what was wrong. It turns out they did not have the size I ordered, so they offered me a different size. It was smaller than I wanted, but I said okay. So then I get that mat and it's even smaller than they claimed it would be, much too small for what I needed. At that point, after 3 wrong mats I was done so I sent the mats back with a prepaid UPS label they sent (although I had to go to UPS at my own inconvenience). They received it 2 weeks ago and I have yet to get a refund. I also can't reach customer service by phone because of high call volume. It was not an expensive item, but I expect a refund for all the annoyance this has caused (it's been almost 2 months since I originally ordered)
After reading this review I was contacted by Adorama and issued a refund (along with requests to remove or revise my review). I am glad I finally received a refund, but it's disappointing that writing a negative review was the catalyst to receive it. It still stands that my experience was negative; however it is finally resolved. "

"Adorama is excellent to work with. Their website is easy to use, easy to find what I'm looking for, and remembers my information. Their prices are always competitive, and delivery is always faster than my expectations. I can't ask for more"

"Ordered a sony hvr-z7u. Fast delivery! However, when I got the camera I see the address of Abel Cine Tech on it, shipped on March 25, 2009, delibered on March 27, 2009. The camera is obvioulsly not new. I contacted Adorama, offered me a $400 refund (not as good as other companies where they have floor models for $200 cheaper that that counter offer). Now I'm reading other comments from other customers and I see that it happened to many other people. They are claiming the items are new, but they are trade ins. I will be contacting Abel Cine Tech regarding this issue, unfortunately they are close today. If I new this before hands, I would have never bought from them. They are not honest! You are not getting what you are expecting, that's for sure. Package was opened, had tape to close it again... "

“Thank you for your order and review. We regret your frustration. However, your item was shipped directly from Sony to us and then to you. It was never opened by us. Your issue should have been with Sony. We issued you A UPS pick up tag and offerd you a full refund or exchange, or a $400.00 refund. You were more then happy to accept the $400.00. Your statement about reading other comments that this happend before is untrue and I'm sure written out of frustration. Our offer still stands and we'd be glad to take it back from you if you so choose. Regardless we apologize for your dissatisfaction.

Sincerely,

Jerry Greenbaum

"Adorama's website states that every package is delivered with a signature required. My $400 order was shipped via UPS, and listed as "delivered" on 12/20/2006. UPS tracking information stated that no signature was entered, and no person received the order; we were home all day, and no knock occurred and no notice was left on the door, no package was left across the street at our apartment complex's rental office, zip! Nada!

UPS told us that we had to deal with Adorama, so we called them. Three calls to Adorama resulted in rude treatment (watch out especially for a woman named H., who hung up on us when we were politely insistent, no rude language on our part). They lied to us and told us that they were tracing our package, but UPS later told us that Adorama had instituted nothing on their end. Even when it was apparent that UPS was refunding the $400 to Adorama, Adorama refused to refund our money or reship the items, telling us that we'd have to wait an unspecified number of weeks for their "investigation" to complete.

We've got nothing, Adorama has our money and refuses to give it back, and the whole thing is due to multiple failures by them and UPS. I am sure that IF I get my money back, I will never be recompensed for my considerable inconvenience and loss of time.

UPDATE: I received an email from the head of customer service at Adorama, getting the facts wrong (he didn't remember who he had talked to, claimed that I had said that the package was delivered damaged by UPS-- when my WIFE instead had said that it was NOT delivered, and also failed to correctly recall what my wife had told him about a conversation with UPS). As far as I know, all the action necessary to resolve this has happened from our end, NOT Adorama's. They refuse to entertain the notion that they've done anything wrong in holding our money-- despite their contractual failure to have our goods delivered with a signature confirmation, as they expressly warrant on their website.

J., head of customer service, wants me to take this rating down, but it is the truth and one of my few pieces of leverage in the situation. His reason is his apparent mistaken belief that the package was delivered, despite multiple conversations with him and his service department via phone, email, and online chat.

UPDATE: J. from Adorama now chooses to come here and outright lie, saying that I've changed my story. I have not changed anything, only added the edit above, clearly marked as such, to indicate the further weaseling tactics he's chosen to employ. He has also lied about us being rude and argumentative; we weren't.

We never received our $400 order. Period. Adorama has our money and has repeatedly refused to give it back. A reputable store would already have refunded our money, once their shipping failure became evident. Their promise of signature delivery was not met.

BUYER BEWARE. If something goes wrong with your order, Adorama DOES NOT ACT IN AN ABOVE-BOARD WAY. THEY DO NOT MAKE GOOD ON THEIR PROMISES. And then, to save face, they choose to lie.

If you want to end up like me, with no merchandise and no money, insulted and avoided by Adorama, and responded to with lies here, then by all means choose this seller. Go back and read the dissatisfied posts from the past; you'll find a track record of behavior like this.

This is the worst customer service I've experienced. It's compounded by J.'s lies here, which add insult to injury. Don't be a fool-- go somewhere else.

UPDATE: It is now 1/5/2006, well over two weeks after we did not receive the package. I feel honor-bound to reply to J.'s latest lies.

UPS never received a call from my wife stating that the package was delivered damaged. It was never delivered. UPS has now issued a refund to Adorama, as we've confirmed by calling UPS. No refund from Adorama, and Jerry is now unavailable via phone and email. Yesterday my wife called (I can't deal with the lies and keep my cool any longer) and spoke again with H., who said that by end of day we would have a refund and an email confirmation. No refund, no email. Today we spent 45 minutes waiting to talk to someone, and were told that the one person in the entire Adorama organization that can issue a credit is out sick, and we will have to try back on Monday.

Once more, Adorama fails to honor its promises, and behaves in a less than above-board manner.

J., you should be ashamed of yourself. You are a bald-faced liar. What an insult it is for you to offer me my tracking number; insulting and stupid, as it was us who contacted UPS with our tracking number, when you should have in the first place.

RUN SCREAMING FROM THIS STORE. Read the other negative reviews and you will!

UPDATE: Adorama never got back to us, and finally a claim with PayPal defaulted due to Adorama's failure to respond. PayPal has given us back our money thanks to Adorama's lack of attention (lucky for me, as they probably would have lied again). "

“Your package was delivered 12/21/06..exactly 2 days after you ordered it!!! I spoke to UPS and they indeed were contacted by your wife who said that the package was delivered damaged. They said they will investigate the claim. I would be more then happy to give you your tracking number. I also listened to the conversation you had with our customer service representitive and it was you who was rude and argumentitive, as you are here in your review. You write that I'm a liar, and our customer service is rude, which is not the case. I also see that you keep on re-editing your reviews over and over. As you can see by the reviews from other happy customers our customer service is 2nd to none. That's why we've been in business for over 35 years! Regardless of your false accusations, we got a reply from UPS and a full refund has been issued to you via Paypal on Friday. You also noted in your review I have contacted you several times by email which should show you were trying to help you. As always I'll be here to help in any way.And as far as your last comment that customers should read through our other reviews...well I agree...it shows just how good we've been doing. In the meantime your continuous name calling and changing of stories do show everyone who I'm dealing with.

Sincerely,
Jerry Greenbaum

"Picked them after hearing they were among the few trustworthy companies for cameras on the web. Had a scary moment when I got an email saying "Please call us, we want to discuss something about your order." This sounded way too similar to some bait-and-switch or "upselling" tactic I'd heard about with other companies. After sending back a nasty email, they said they only wanted to know if I wanted to cancel the camera case part of the order (it was out of stock). You decide.

The camera and other available equipment came quickly and have had no problems with it. They were the lowest priced of the "reputable" dealers.

It's funny, if someone tries to upsell you in a retail outlet, you just say no and maybe get annoyed. But when you place and online order and someone tries to do it, you feel like it's a scam."
