I've read a lot of reviews on 42nd St. Photo, both positive and Negative. I believe that some people have bad experiences with any vendor, mine was positive.
I purchased a Nikon D90(body only)+ Pro shooters kit, and upgraded Memory card. What I received was what they advertized. Their price was great, there service was great, with a fast delivery. Elliot called me to advise me of the next day shipping,& tracking #, and ask if I had everything I needed to start shooting. He advised me that I should have a larger memory card with High Speed if I intended to shoot movies with the camera, I agreed, and authorized the purchase of a 16GB high speed. There was no high pressure sale tactics for the purchase of anything else. He was very pleasant and friendly, and we even shot the breeze for a short time about other things than cameras. Nice fellow! Would I buy from them again, Yes!! This review was modified by its author, PKraut, on

Always great prices, always great service. The personal followup on the order by phone is very much appreciated. I wish more merchants would do it. Thanks 42nd Street Photo. I can always count on you. I placed my first order with you in 1988. I'll be back. Peggy Murphy, Annapolis, Md.

I ordered a Nikon D300 online on 5/14/2009. The same day, I received a call telling me it would be sent the next day and that they would email the tracking number to me.
By the next afternoon, I hadn't received a tracking number. Their website showed that it had shipped. I sent an email asking for the tracking number.
Moments later, I got a call from "John" at 42nd Street. He said the warehouse couldn't find any D300s. He said he could send me one from their retail store, but that instead of the one year Nikon warranty it would have a three year 42nd street warranty. I asked if it was graymarket, and he admitted that it was. I asked to cancel.
They have cancelled my order and told me that my card will be refunded. They confirmed in writing that the card will be refunded.
They assured me that they really did misplace the D300. I will take their word for it.

I recently discovered a serious pricing error from 42nd Street Photo; it was three years old.
42nd street went out of their way to adjust the problem to my satisfaction. I am delighted with their service! This review was modified by its author, RuthBernard, on

They had the best online price for the camera that I wanted (5D mkII), and free shipping as well.
The camera was temporarily out of stock, so the package was delayed a couple of days, but they sent me a free cleaning kit and a CF card, so I'm really happy with the purchase! This review was modified by its author, thestep, on

After searching the low cost online Photo stores that advertised the Nikon D300 camera body only in stock for $650 to $700, they all called to add lens, memory cards, spare batteries, etc.
When I explained I only needed the camera body becuase it was damaged, they responded by email saying it was not in stock and would take 3 to 4 weeks to ship.
I called 42nd Street Photo, they confirmed they had the camera body only in stock at $1,500. It was shipped the same day it was ordered. How wonderful to deal with an "Honest" online reseller.

I received excellent customer service from Elliot who made sure I got exactly what I ordered. This was great since I had ordered from someone else previously who sent a substitute without checking with me! I really appreciate how well this order was handled and the extremely fast shipping. I ordered on Friday and received the item all the way across the country on Monday. Thanks so much for such great service. I won't hesitate to order again.

This is the second SLR camera that I have purchased from 42nd Street Photo. Again, I am exceptionally pleased with the entire purchasing experience and the speedy delivery. Their Internet site is very easy to use and loads quickly. I got free shipping which is always a plus and their prices are the best of any store or internet supplier I have seen. I trust them and their products completely. They are more than a pleasure to work with. Keep up the great work guys. This review was modified by its author, det55, on

I checked the reviews for 42nd Street Photo just after I ordered a new Canon G10 camera from them. The reviews made me a bit nervous, even though I had done business with this outfit many years ago with no problems. They had the lowest price I found ... excluding the crooked bait and switch sellers ... and offered free shipping, so I sent in my order and paid with PayPal.
As feared, I did get a phone call on my answering machine telling me to call back to confirm my order. I did call back and expected an aggressive "buy more" sales pitch. What I actually got, from a salesman named John, was a real order confirmation and a promise to ship the same day. John did mention that the camera did not come with a memeory card, but did not push at all when I declined to buy accessories. He was, in fact, very polite and told me I made a good choice of cameras. He promised to have a tracking number emailed to me within 24 hours. Within an hour, I had the tracking number and in two days I had the camera.
The camera was new in the box and included all the correct accessories, as listed in the manual and on Canon's website. It was, as claimed, the USA version. They even sent a free lens cleaning kit with the camera.
I have no experience dealing with their actual store but, as far as Internet sales, this was a totally stress free experience and I would absolutely have no reservations dealing with 42nd Street Photo again.

Spoke to Ralph inquiring about the canon 50D. It was in stock and came with the USA manufactor's warranty. Since I didn't want the 50D w/18-200 IS kit, Ralph suggested the Sigma 18-200 OS lens. I was sold.
I was given the usual speil about filters, batteries and warranty, but I told Ralph I wasn't interested. No high pressure from him.
A day after ordering, I found out that 42ND Photo sold me the lens for more than other online photo stores. Called Ralph and told him. Said he would get back to me to help straighten it up to my satisfaction.
Ralph called back and adjusted the price(crediting my credit card)and also sent me a free three piece filter set for my troubles. That's what I call Good P.R.
I received my camera and lens 5 days later. The filter set arrived the next day.
Would I buy from them, again? Definitely.

I ordered the Canon 5D Mark 2 from these guys. It came in overnight - which I did pay a price for, but I needed it. The price was over retail but this is due to it being nearly impossible to get now. The battery recharger came with a European power cord, but Elliot shipped out an american version right away. This review was modified by its author, claytaylor, on

This is a rock solid honest company to deal with, absolutely no worries. No nonsense straight forward sales approach, no hustle. (Ask for Elliot) Prices are more than competitive and most importantly they do what they promise! I did my research, knew what I wanted, explained to them why I was purchasing the Nikon D300 and a Nikon CoolPix P80. I received them both in three days as promised.
Thanks Elliot and thank you 42nd St.Photo.
