"Ah.. 2020PC.com… the worst mistake of my shopping life.
I work for a small business that was rapidly expanding, so we figured we should spend some money on a workgroup scanner, about $800. 2020PC.com offered the best price - hadn't heard of them before but why not?
The first part of the fabulous shopping experience arose when I ordered the scanner. Their website describes the cheapest shipping method as "Default Shipping/ Pick Up". Only after they take your order, do they send you an e-mail "items are ready to pick up in TX there is $42.36 shipping cost for this order" WTF? Surely "Default Shipping/ Pick Up" reads "Default Shipping or Pick Up"! Last time I checked, the convention for the English language is for "/" to mean "or". Like "soup/salad" doesn't read "soup is salad". Sneaky fuckers. Well, I still wanted the scanner and the extra charge took the price only to a regular level, so hell - I'll take it and just never order anything from them again.
If only it was that simple.
The scanner I received kept misaligning the sheets so that a slanted border would appear around every page. A few traded e-mails with Epson support later, and the scanner is assigned "defective" status. Their response,
Epson : "Since the scanner is experiencing issues and is only 2 days old, you may contact the place of purchase to assist with an exchange."
So, an e-mail goes off to kevin@2020pc.com
Me : "I've been in communication with Epson regarding a ___ scanner that I recently purchased from 2020PC.com. It introduces defects on scans produced with the ADF. According to Epson -, I can arrange an exchange with you for another unit. …"
Kevin : ...
NO RESPONSE! Can you believe it? Na, na, na,… I can't hear you… na, na, na… it's not happening.
So, an e-mail goes off to cs@2020pc.com
Me : "I recently purchased a ___ scanner from 2020PC.com. I've been in communication with Epson about some imaging defects when scanning with the ADF. Epson instructed me to contact you for an exchange. The incident number is __________ , my sales order is attached and I await your instructions on the handling procedure."
Their response… wait for it…
Customer Service : "Have you purchased the extended warranty that come with exchange program ?
If not ,Manufacturer is the only one that can exchange the item for you .
It is not too late to purchase the extended warranty .
"
I can't imagine what illiterate member of a sub-human species could write such a poorly typed, spelt and grammatically incorrect response. Oh, but I can return the item!
1. "We reserve the right to charge a 20% restocking fee on returns or cancelled orders"
2. No Returns after 15 days, all Returned & Refused Orders are subject to 15% Restocking Fee
3. "Shipping & Handling Charges are not Refundable for Returned or Refused Orders."
Will they waive these rights?…. (silence).
Does any member of a self-respecting business actually believe that this represents the following (from their website),
"In the case of a defective item and in the interests of .. 2020 P. C. prides itself on a tradition of outstanding customer care and support. Our devoted team of account representatives understands that our customers are the hallmark of our enduring partnerships"
It meant to read,
"In the case of a dodgy product and in the interests of small-minded short-term profits, 2020 P.C. prides itself on a tradition of shitty customer care and butt-shafting. Our deaf, dumb and illiterate team of tools understands that our customers are fucked if they don't live locally to give us a good ass-kicking"
Well, they are based in Texas - should have known they'd be a bunch of cowboys."
