Terrible service, rec'd wrong items, no response to 3 emails and phone calls. Items rec'd were cheaper and inferior to what I ordered and paid for. Company will not respond to repeated requests to call or email me back and no one answers the phone there when I try to call. I will never use this company again.
I tried to place an online order for a Canon lens. My order would not go through because it kept telling me the address on my card was not correct (it is my debit card, of course it is correct!) So I call them to place the order. The phone is answered. Call goes as follows:
I state name and say I wish to place order.
-Guy says "what item?"
I give item number.
-He says "What is the description?"
I tell him.
-He quickly says "not in stock ma'am."
I start to say, uh it says...
Guy immediately cuts me off and very rudely says "I told you it's not in stock!!"
Web site clearly states item is in stock, offers free shipping and can ship within 24-48 hrs!!!!!
I will NOT be calling this company again.

Here is a company to avoid. thety send a broken 300 doallr tripod i purchased on ebay. i told them and they send ups to pick it up for a return, after awile they finally sent another package. the problem was it was the the exact same broken tripod. i asked again for a return and they finally sent an email for me to print a ups label and return it. when i took it to ups the shipping label had expired. i tried to call and email them and never received a reply. i found out it was not too late for paypal refund and too late to provide feedback on ebay.
buy at you own risk.

These guys are the BEST! I have bought from the other two NYC camera dealers and they can't hold a candle to 47th Street Photo. No order problems, no attempts at up-sell crap, just a nice clean easy deal with GREAT after sales service. 47th Street photo even went to the trouble of having UPS call me the day before delivery to make sure someone would be here to accept the delivery. This is the best service I have ever seen from any company and I will be buying from them again, many times.
You won't do any better than 47th Street photo!
It's 3/14/09 and I have just completed another purchase from 47th Street Photo. This time for a long Sigma zoom, 120-400mm. The deal went from start to completion without any hitches, glitches or worry, 47th Street Photo was perfect once again. This is my second Sigma lens purchase from 47th Street and I will buy from them again and again and I'm sure I won't have any worries about dealing with 47th Street Photo. Thanks guys, another job well done.

I ordered an Opteka 77mm Close-Up Set (+1, +2, and +4) with 10x Macro Lens from 47th Street Photo on 12/9/08. I tried to order it on Amazon from the same dealer but there was no way to order a specific size (77mm) through Amazon's site so I called 47th Street Photo directly. The rep said that they had the 77mm set in stock so I ordered it for $24.95 + shipping of $4.95. I received it a few days later (very good time). However, what they sent was a 67mm set with a 77mm-to-67mm adapter. Not good. This is backwards. My lenses are 77mm. Anyway, I called them and they said they would send a return label to me which they did. I returned the item and tracked it until it was delivered to their store at 8:10am on 12/26/08. On 12/30/08 I got an email that said they had credited my credit card for $24.95 (no shipping charge was to be credited). By 1/5/09 I still did not see the credit on my account so I sent an email to them asking about the refund and also why the shipping charge was not added to the refund since it was their fault. The only response I received was that they had credited the account on 12/30/08. So then I called them and explained the situation to the rep who answered the call. She checked the refund and said that it had not gone through and that she would resend it. I verified the credit card number for her and also told her that since the error was their fault they should refund the shipping charges also. She agreed and said that it would be taken care of. Two days later and it still has not been resolved so I turned the issue over to my credit card company as a dispute. Hopefully it will get resolved soon. I will not order anything from this company again even through Amazon.
Update: Looked up my CC account and the $29.90 has been credited to my account. Haven't heard from 47th Street Photo so I assume my credit card company made it happen.

I purchased an Opteka 650-1300mm telephoto lens from 47th Street Photo. I was very pleased with the entire process of obtaining this lens. The only problem I had with the purchase was that the carrying pouch had a bad zipper. I contacted Ann at the service department and told her about the pouch and she is sending me another pouch. This effort only speaks to the outstanding customer relations you get at 47th Street Photo. I had a great experience making this purchase and would highly recommend 47th Street Photo to all my friends.
This item was purchased via an ebay "buy it now" option. The price was quite attractively low, and yet the item is U.S. import, fully warranteed, and brand new. So the price was definitely right! Delivery occurred right on schedule, and the lens I purchased has been quite satisfactory. I have not had to deal with return or credit issues, so I can't speak about 47th Street's rating in those areas. But for this smooth transaction, I am quite satisfied with their service.

Yes I ordered a tripod for my wife but it did not work with her set up. She call and was told she could send it back. Now she did as told mailed it back in the time told also she marked the package as told. We have not heared anything back from 47stphoto and my wife very unhappy with the transaction.

I've ordered from them twice, both times the original order was filled quickly and without a problem, but my return/exchange was handled abysmally. I had to call and call and call about the status, they never initiated any communication with me while they held my $956 hostage. Though their site said the lens I was exchanging for was in stock and every time I called they said it would be processed and shipped "today," I finally got the impression that I was being held in limbo while they hoped to get a shipment with the lens I was requesting. After calling them several times over a two week period, they finally told me the lens was suddenly out of stock. Hmmm. They did promptly refund the money once they admitted they didn't have the lens, but I didn't appreciate being strung along like I was. I will try out all the other possibilities before I buy from them again although I guess I wouldn't say I'd NEVER order from them.
I have ordered a few things from this store. my experience is thast if it truly is in stock it is shipped quickly and without a hitch. products come as they are presented on the website. however, they only have one fault. they are not very good about letting you know when they are out of stock. i order from here if bhphotovideo.com is out of stock. if you dont recieve shipping confirmation w/ in two or three days call and cancell. otherwise this is a good merchant.
Do NOT order from 47st Photo as "In Stock" means they will eventually get it in stock and ship when and if they please.
I ordered "In Stock" lens on Aug 29, 2006, UPS 2nd day air, and on Sept 5, 2006 with no indication of ever shipping I canceled the order. I ordered the same lens from B&H Photo and received the lens the next day.
Ordered a lens showing "In stock" from their website on 12/26. two weeks later with no shipment notice I called to see what was going on. Salesperson looked up the order and said he would call back. Luckily I wrote the guys name down, because the next day I had to call again and start all over again with the same guy. Then he informs me that they do not have the lens and my order was cancelled. They did not even inform me of this! So in summary bad website data on stock info, and bad customer service. Stay away from these guys.
Order lens on sunday and they didnt even look at it till thursday and only caz i called wow takes them 4 days to even look at it wanted it for christmas so i cancelled it caz i know it would take forever for them to ship. If you need something on time and reliable business go to onecall.com
I ordered a SIGMA 28mm-70mm EX Lens for Canon mount lens around 7/7/04 after seeing it was "in stock" on their web site. However in reality, it was backordered and they failed to communicate this to me until I followed up 3 days later wanting to know why a UPS tracking number was never issued.
The item is still showing as "in stock" on their web site even though they know it's not in stock. This is very misleading. They charge your credit card even though they haven't shipped the item and it's backordered. So you've paid for something you don't own.
They told me it'll be a week, twice! This was after numerous follow-ups. When you call there, you get the runaround & they place you on hold a lot.
On numerous occassions after being on hold for a while ... I'd get disconnected. I'd call back up and have to tell my story all over again to whomever answered the phone. When I said I got hung up on, they dismissed it & said, "we don't hang up on our customers."
So was I lying? These guys are bad news. STAY AWAY...STAY AWAY.
This is the one time I decided to order from a vendor other than the trustworthy & customer friendly B&H Photo, and in hindsight I regretted it doing business with 47st Photo.
Translation: If you are trying to save a few extra dollars, it's not worth it due to the poor treatment you receive and questionable business practices.
End result. I cancelled the order with 47st. Photo and ordered from B&H.
EXTREMELY POOR EXPERIENCE with 47 St. PHOTO.
