I have been a customer of surpluscomputers.com for several years, and was happy with them, until my most recent and final purchase.
Among other items I ordered a fairly hefty refurbished server class box, plus 4 ECC memory modules. It sounded like a good deal, all in all. The shipping costs were more that I expected but not completely unreasonable.
What I received was not as advertised!
The server box was advertised as containing a specific motherboard with 4GB memory included, upgradable to 12GB. I received a server with a different motherboard only upgradable to 8GB.
Most of the memory modules I received were faster than specified. But none of them were ECC.
I asked for replacement, not a refund. I offered to allow them to sell me some upgrades instead of an exact replacement. They insisted I pay the return freight. To reduce the weight of the package and shipping costs I wanted to swap out the motherboard for the one they advertised. And to pay for upgrades to a full 12GB. And to upgrade the memory that did not meet the advertised specs. They refused.
UPS delivered the RMA to them on Dec. 23. I expected things to be slow over the holidays. I sent them an email on Jan 1, asking when I could expect them to process the RMA. I did not expect an immediate response, I received no response.
I inquired again on Jan 7. They claimed they never received the RMA. I sent them a copy of the UPS delivery notification. They refused to replace the server and memory with products that met their advertised specifications and issued a refund, not including the shipping charges for returning their equipment.
On their website they are still advertising the products with the specifications they did not deliver.
I will never do business with them again.
