The instructions were very clear and accurate. The hardware included with the hard drive fit perfectly. I ordered the Networking upgrade and they included lots of instructions specific to that option as well.

It's been 3 months since I purchased the drive, since that time I've been frustrated by the lack of support for the PTVNet software that I paid $50 to have installed. My TiVO updated it's software for the daylight savings time and that apparently nixed the pre-installed software. Since I didn't get a PTVNet disk I was told that warranty or not, I'd have to send the drive back and pay another $75 for recertification. I most certainly am not going to send them good money after bad.
If you think that going through DVRupgrade for a plug-and-play drive is a more consumer friendly alternative to just buying your own drive and hacking the software, your wrong. Their support is not any better than what you'd get from a TiVO users forum. What a complete waste of time and money.

Aftre receiving product, it failed again. It was so difficult to communicate with them that I took a loss and went to another site to purchase a new unit. If you have a problem you are out of luck with this crew.Product failed four times. At first they were helpful but incompetant now unhelpful and incompetant. They changed name to DVRUPGRADE fron PTVupgrade.

Terrible customer support. Very difficult to contact and they refuse to cancel any order that's been placed, even if you've already placed another order replacing the incorrect order. I sent them TWO cancellation requests immediately after placing my order because I wanted the downloadable version and they ignored both requests. I ended up with two copies of the exact same program because of their ordering process and lack of a viable way to contact them. Once they get your money, they simply don't care.

This is not true. We are very responsive to emails and do give folks the opportunity to cancel orders (even for software products) if they have not shipped yet. We do not ignore any requests of this nature.
Be very carefull with this company. I purchased two software programs and choose to download them, you are given three attempts to do this. The one program I managed to download on the second try, but the second one got to 97mb and then stalled. I emailed them, and was given another three tries. I waited till the next day to try again, on these attempts I got to 57kb on one try but that was it, and again the connection stopped working because of the three try limit. I again emailed them and said I would buy the program on CD and have it sent to me. Their responce to this was I was given six tries to download the program, and I was out of luck if it didn't work. No refunds and no CD. I am in the process of filling a complaint with my credit card company to get the program or my money back.

Please do be careful when purchasing our DIY products; they are inexpensive, however you are much more accountable than if you purchase a kit or installation service from us.
What the poster omitted from his comments is that prior to completing his purchase he read, understood and agreed to terms which were very specific about our return policy and a recommendation that the CD be purchased if there were any concerns associated with downloading the product successfully. We attempted to help this customer by responding to several emails and regenerating download links, however he became threatening and abusive.
Instant Cake and drive work perfectly and the prices are competitive. My only gripe is that I wasn't promptly notified about a change in shipping cost since my address doesn't qualify for free shipping. Only after inquiring with DVRupgrade about a second charge to my credit card did I receive a revised invoice, then an email from customer service acknowledging the charge and apologizing for the "misunderstanding". Would be nice if their checkout system could adjust shipping totals before you complete the order. Or even being sent a revised invoice without having to inquire about unknown charges.
I purchased two drives for two separate machines. One worked fine and the other didn't. Through expedient email replies to my questions, I was able to diagnose a defective drive. It was likely hardware and completely unrelated to the PTV software. They were great in replacing the drive via a 'get well' kit and spared no time doing so. Customer support was fantastic. Both my tivos are running perfectly now and so far the product has been all that I expected despite the initial glitch.
Instructions were very easy to follow and installation went smooth. Everything worked fine with no problems. I recently dropped local phone service and my series 1 tivo couldn't connect over the phone anymore. The caching Ethernet card allows me to download schedule info over my network.
My only complaint is the cost. $400 to upgrade my 30hr Tivo to a 145hr Tivo with caching/networking. I could have just bought a new 140hr Tivo Series 2 for that price.
I would only recommend this upgrade for those who aren't too cost conscious or those that like hacking into consumer electronics.
All cost complaints considered, I'm still very happy with the upgrade.

Glad you are happy with the upgrade. Hopefully you realize there are some fundamental differences between your networked Series1 unit and the new Series2 unit you could have purchased with the same amount of money. Controlling your unit via TiVoWeb, and installing powerful aftermarket add-ons is not an option for Series2 unit owners; its quite possible that what you purchased may have been overkill for your particular needs, but it is important to distinguish the comparison being made -- the high speed CacheCard and the functionality it brings cannot be matched with any Series2 on the market today.
The kind of old fashioned, personal service that I don't see very often these days. Really fast and flexible too. Drop shipped a drive which I purchased elsewhere for recertification and had it on my doorstep in no time flat. Thanks Lou !
What a GREAT value! I ordered on Oct 3, 2009 and received the TiVo replacement drive kit on Oct 9, 2009 and installed it that same evening. No problems! Instructions were clear. Set up worked just as advertised. For $100 I fixed my old TiVo and go to keep my lifetime service. Thanks.
I am extremely satisfied with the product, the shipping, and the overall process.
I purchased a repair kit for my TIVO and it was shipped out the same day. The installation went smoothly along and the instructions provided by DVRupgrade helped tremendously.
Thanks!
Rindie
I ordered a replacement fan for my Tivo and was very pleased with the service from DVR upgrade. Great website helped me find what I was looking for, order was shipped quickly and the replacement fan is whisper-quiet.
My Tivo was hung at the "powering up" point. A search on Google indicated that 99% chance my hard drive had failed on 5yr old Tivo. I saw links and then good reviews to DVRUpgrade. I took a chance and spent $88 for a replacement hard drive. I had never opened a computer box before, but I dove in. In about 15 minutes following the instructions/pictures provided, I had restored my Tivo - and preserved my lifetime subscription! DVRUpgrade worked just as promised.
