I was TRYING to order a textbook from A1books.com, but when I was putting in my payment information, it kept saying that my address or my verification code on my card was incorrect. Finally, I just gave up and decided that I would pay for a more expensive book and never placed the order. That night, for some reason I looked at my bank account online, I noticed that I had been charged FOUR times for a $71.00 book! THATS A TOTAL OF $284!!! I NEVER EVEN COMPLETED MY ORDER!!! I have a phone number- if anyone wants it- but it's no help. The number is 973.426.9995. The only reason I have the number is because it showed up on my bank statement online. Right now, I have left two messagges and sent many emails with no responses. I checked my orders in my account to make sure I did not accidentally submit my order and did not realize it, but it says in my account that I have not ever ordered anything from them. I can hopefully receive my money back through my bank. The charges are still pending and until they go through, my bank cannot do anything about it. :-( Anyways, DO NOT ORDER FROM THESE CRIMINALS!

Ordered 2 books from amazon.ca of which 2 were supposed to come from A1Books. The one from amazon.ca arrived no problem to the shipping address I specified. The ones from A1books were sent by mail. Shipping address was not a mail delivery address so they were refused by Post office. No notification, On a 45.08 order, they refunded me 15.86. They have shown no interest in
customer service. I would advise strongly against using this company or amazon as they have washed their hands of these dealings by their associated company. I would especially advise orders from Canada to use other more reputable companies that have an established name.

I ordered a rather popular, but discontinued book through Alibris. This item was held and sold by A1books.
I received the item in a timely manner and in excellent description.
The problems I've read on reviews, do not surprise me, I've ordered from Alibris before - and various sellers sometimes don't ship what they claim they do. But I've never had that happen with A1books, when shipping from Alibris.

Though my credit card was billed I have not received the book and A1 will not respond to my inquiries. I purchased the book from A1 through Alibris.com.

Placed an order with a1books.com through amazon.com. Amazon sent me a confirmation and said no email would be sent from the a1books and thy also stated the item should arrive in 2-4weeks.
An email confirmation was sent from a1books.com the next day confirming my order. Two days later another email arrived saying my order was shipped the previous day. The tracking number received never seemed to work, when trying to check the delivary status. From a week after placing the order the item arrived. For being used it was in very good condition.
Would consider this store to be about average. According to amazon's ratings this store has been doing very well lately regarding orders. Would buy from again.

This store is horrible! I purchased a book with them on Jan 4th and never received it. After inquiring within 2 weeks later, they responded quickly, but only to tell me they apologize that my book was sold out. I subsequently asked for a credit and they NEVER responded!! It's been 2 days and no response. Irate is an understatement of how I'm feeling right now. I wish I had looked up their reviews beforehand...after seeing everyone else's comments, I don't think I'll ever see my money again. I'm not letting it go so easily, this is hard earned money that I'm not letting these slimes just take like that!
DO NOT BUY FROM THEM! I'm telling my school to take them off the blackboard!

Same old story. I never received the book that I purchased. Customer service wouldn't help; although they were more than happy to take my money. They said that if the book was mistakenly shipped back to them by the post office, I would even have to pay a restocking fee. Stay away!!! THE WORST!!!

I never received the item I ordered. It was a $20 book that they shipped via USPS mail & they did not use insurance or signature confirmation. They sent me a "delivery confirmation" # that proves that something they shipped was delivered somewhere in my zip code. USPS may have accidentally lost it, but the A1customer service said I had to resolve the issue with USPS. USPS of course said what A1books should have known - delivery confirmation does not guarantee the item was delivered to the correct address - it just means it was delivered someplace. I don't know about you, but I get my neighbors mail from time to time - it happens. Since there is no insurance USPS can't do anything for me. I contacted A1books asking them to send another copy since USPS lost it, and they said they can't do anything for me. They'll save $20 by not sending another copy but they'll loose a customer or two & will see this ugly review forever. In the end they'll lose more. This review was modified by its author, ddeppe, on

I ordered a book from "a1 Books", in January. There was no hesitation on their part to immediately extract the funds from my account through PayPal. I never received my book and tried repeatedly to find out its status. The only contact I received from them was as of late (7 months later!). They were trying to get me to resell through them! That was the ONLY time I was able to contact them with any response (on their part). They sent me a short message, when I was FINALLY able to let them know I never received what I paid for. They said they would 'look into it'; again, no response from them. I THEN reopened their ONLY method of contact; their 'email request box' (their DARK HOLE to their email "wastebasket"), and told them I would like a response. The response I got back from them was that it was now basically MY PROBLEM, as I did not contact them within their supposed 60-day window. I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES; with NO RESPONSE FROM THEM! I just sent the following to them explaining this... ...this is a copy/paste ----
In an answer to your response…
(You must inform us within 60 business days of the date we shipped your item, if you had not got the item.)
Apparently the following statement from myself was overlooked, or ignored.
“…I ordered this book long ago, paid for it and (((NEVER))) received it! I did all I could to get an answer, with NO SUCCESS!
---anyway, "a1 Books" is seemingly getting away with robbery. I am going to contact PayPal. I would not have known what to do if I had not accidentally come across this site. This company is FINANCIALLY SCAMMING many individuals and they are undoubtedly stealing lots of money, as there seems to be no way to shut them down. They get the innocents whom are not savvy to these types of rip-offs.

I ordered a book, after ordering noticed that my complete address was not on the receipt, however appeared correctly in my "account" information. This seems to have been a syntax or script error on the site. Ignoring the problem and/or not acknowledging it and ripping off customers is unfair and is clearly not a good business practice.

Do NOT buy from this seller. After waiting over a month for my book, I suddenly received an email that I am receiving a partial refund. Their customer service department was extremely uncooperative and they refused to refund me the rest. (They don't even have a phone number - you have to post a message through their website). I was forced to file a complaint with paypal.

Do not use this retailer if you can help it - terrible customer service. I ordered my book Jan. 2, 2006 and still have not received it (today is March 11, 2006). They sent it to the wrong address after I repeatedly, via email correspondence with one of their customer service reps, told them I wanted the book sent to a friend as a gift. I have emailed them repeatedly (can't find a phone number) and have never heard anything. Frustrating!

DONT USE A1 BOOKS, there are alot of other good book sellers out there. i was sent the wrong book from a1 books, after waiting about 14 days to get it in the mail(i think the website said 3-6day delivery). there customer sevice is terrible, it took me a while just to figure out how to get a hold of them, which is only by email, and it takes them about three days to respond.i sent back my book for a refund and they told me it would take 30-45 days to refund my money. then they told me they never received the returned book in the mail. so i dont think i will see a refund.

This was simply the worst experience I have ever had with a book company. I am STILL trying to recieve all of my money as a refund for a book I purchased a month and a half ago, but I am very doubtful that I will ever get it back. I was sent the wrong book, and that alone took 3 weeks even though it was stated as in stock. I was quoted a terrific return policy, but upon that return I am not recieving my money. Not only that, but they charged me a restocking fee of 10% for their mistake!
I strongly suggest that nobody buys from this company.
