One of the worst experiences I have ever had was when I purchased camera supplies from NWV Direct (newworldvideodirect.com). The first thing they did was charge me an extraordinary price for a very cheap set of lenses (about 5 times as much, claiming they were the top of the line when they called to switch me). After threatening to file a chargeback, they reluctantly reduced the price to what everyone else was charging on the net. The next problem I had was when they sent me a battery they swore was the right one for my camera. The problem of course, was that it did not work. Apparently the battery has a thermocouple that my camera needs to have normally closed. The battery they sent me was normally open. I sent it back at my expense and they sent me the same battery. I sent it back again at my expense again explaining exactly why the battery did not work. They once again sent me back the same battery. I took the time to make a video for these clowns, clearly showing the difference in the voltage and also the resistance. I also put both batteries in my camera, showing the error that their battery caused. I sent them the DVD and the battery requesting a refund, if they could not find the correct battery. What do you think they did? That's right, these clowns sent back the same battery again. I guess they feel that they can just rip us off any time they want. This fiasco
went on for a year before I gave up. I also noticed that an overwhelming number of their short positive reviews seem to be written by the same person and all of them only made 1 review. Coincidence? Or more trickery? Be forewarned, in my opinion, these are crooks who could not care less about ethics. This review was modified by its author, ae3799t, on

This review was modified by its author, chu089, on

I ordered the charger. They sent me email to call them. They did not have the item, as of Oct 8th, 2009. They were trying to sell me other item. Canceled the order. They did not charged my credit card. They should state "out of stock". Waisted a week. Bait-and-switch scheme.

Watch out for these clown's!!! They pulled the old "Bait and Switch" scam on me. After ordering a Canon brand battery charger(CG800,they of course offered the lowest price to draw you in)I received a phone call from NWV Direct that they were sold out of this charger and every body else was too. And it would be several weeks before they would get more in if ever.
"But they could offer me a much more expensive universal one for the same price because of me being inconvenienced". Well I took the bait and got hooked. Its called the "Bait and Switch Scam". Google it. Look on the internet and you'll see more examples of this from NWV Direct. The charger I got is a cheap attempt and sells for much less that the one I ordered. As of today Oct5th, the company jumped right on my problem because of the post. They offered to refund my money which I did get. But they never apologize or explain the original scam they pulled. The rep who called cited lots of satisfied customers but again would not address my claim of a purposeful pulled scam. So buyer beware! This review was modified by its author, brusser, on

I have reasons to believe this company is one and the same as accessorycircut.com. They have the exact same order form and confirmation page and they pulled the same tired tricks on me... the bait & switch. I ordered an item, they then told me they didn't have it and wanted me to buy something else! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME HERE.
TO THE SELLER: If you don't have an item available, don't list it on your page and allow customers to order it!!!
EDIT TO ADD: Received a phone call from this company shortly after my review and they offered me sell me the product I wanted (the one they said they didn't have) if I were to CHANGE my review!!! Ludicrous! This review was modified by its author, thaliagoo, on

My problem is with the product, not the service. I sent the following message: "I regret to advise you that I've tried the material you sent and find that 1) the lens cap is unsatisfactory. The fact that it came with a lens cap was a main reason for purchasing this lens and adapter. I thought that the cap would stay on when put in my pack while hiking. The cap actually is quite loose and falls off easily. The lens is still like new even though the cap fell off. It probably won't stay that way with this problem. At this point I am an unhappy customer. In addition, 2) the value of the wide angle lens seems minimal over the wide angle built into the Canon A590IS. "
I have had no response to date.

Earlier today I called New World Video Direct to order some lenses for my Canon S5 IS digital camera. To be specific 1) Canon WC-DC58 58mm .75x conv lens 1) Canon TC-DC58B .5x teleconv len. 1) Canon LAH-DC20 Lens & Adapter Hood Set. My call was to verify that the items I'd be ordering online would be Brand New items and not Factory Refreshed. I got a rep by the name of Mark on the line which told me all items would be New and not Factory Refreshed. He proceeded to ask me where did I get the specs for my camera, if they were by the manual. I replied that they were. He said that the info on the manual was outdated because those lenses were reported to have many problems with "vignetting and distortion". He said he had a better lenses without those problems, and asked me to type in two separate parts numbers on the search box on the NWV website... #2058 Crystal Vision Limited Edition High Definition 58mm 0.5x Pro Wide Lens W/ Macro and #5528 Ultra Compact High Definition Professional Titanium Series 2.2x Super Telephoto Lens for 58mm - He said I'd be better off with these because they're used by professional photographers with great results, and that he could do better on price than what was shown on the website. Being new to photograpy, I was getting confused by Mark's fast talking an the terms he used. I told him that even with the discounts it was more than I had intented to spend. That I wanted to do a little research...at that point he said that I wouldn't find these lenses on the internet because they were specialized and used by professionals...made in Japan for professionals ..."mention them to a professional and they'll know about them" he told me, and if I wanted them right away he would call shipping dept to hold them for me. I told him I'd think about it and call him back. Well unfortunately I believed him. I wanted equipment I could use to improve my shots... lenses that I would be happy with the results... not "distortions or vegnetting" ruining my pictures...I fell for it. I called him back, I ordered. $514.49 instead of $232.85 I would have paid if I wasn't given the bait & switch by being manipulated by Mark. After I ordered, I started looking on the internet for info on the lenses Mark hyped and sure enough no info on the manufacturers, but I did find lots of forums on these lenses and they were horrible. I called Mark back within 1/2hr of my order to cancel. I told him I needed to cancel my order right away. I don't like what I'm finding out about them. Stop the order right away. Cancel Cancel Cancel. Too late he says, the orders been shipped. I can't believe it. I just ordered them. I need to cancel. Mark asks me why I want to cancel... I reply that I'm freaking out by the info I getting off the web about the lenses and NWV, it's not good. Well, to bad so sad..."If you don't want them, return them with a 15% restocking fee", thank you very much.
I can tell you I am so disappointed by this man's attitude and lack of understanding...had he canceled my order, I would have given him my intended order instead and prehaps purchased other items as well. Now I'm sitting here writing this as a warning to others....Do not do business with this company. This review was modified by its author, Blackfin, on

Hi Ms Doran. Please test the lenses yourself before writing a review of them. That would be the right thing to do. Your claims of being confused and manipulated do not make sense. You were recommended products, you had the opportunity to do research, you did the research, you called back and placed the order.
Thank you. |

Surprise...Surprise. I ordered a Kodak K8600-C+1 Rapid Charger Kit from this website cause it was the cheapest place. Mistakenly before I read this sites (or any for that matter) reviews of this website. Guess what...
Get an email and a phone call today pulling what everyone says they do on in these reviews. Items not in stock and even giving me what seems to be the standard issue 6 week time frame for their call center, claiming it is KODAK who has them back ordered for 6 weeks.
I just got off the phone with a representative at Kodak who assures me that this part is in stock. There goes that theory NWVD.
Lady asked me if I saw some other name of charger that she can sell me for the same price. (another apparent standard issue response for their customer service) I stop her before she finishes to let her know I just want it canceled.
She claims they didn't charge me so maybe they have switched up their practices a "little" bit.
Will report back with anything else that arises.
I would not recommend this site to anyone. This review was modified by its author, slostenracing, on

Sure seemed like a bait & switch. I ordered an Olympus flash and was told it was on back-order and was talked into a Vivitar flash fore a price that was $70 more than other vendors. I called to complain and they said that it was a better flash than elsewhere (which they later agreed was the same flash.) After much hassle they agreed to refund me $70. So in summary I ended getting the flash I never really wanted for a price that I could have gotten elsewhere with no hassle and I could have gotten free shipping elsewhere too.
I just hate feeling like I'm being messed around with. I WILL NEVER BUY FROM NWV Direct AGAIN. You decide for yourself.

Tried to pull the classic bait and switch. I ordered a Canon brand charger for my camcorder and they called me two days later to say it was out of stock, and would I like this no-name brand charger for the same price. I asked why the website said it was in stock, and they said it takes a couple days to update the website. When I pointed out that it had been a couple days since my order, and the product is still listed as "in stock", they had no explanation. When I confronted them and told them they were practicing bait and switch tactics, they pretended to not know what that meant, said "We'll cancel your order, have a nice day" and hung up.

****Update 7/31/2009****
Below is an email message I received from their review department along with a call. On the call they wanted to assure me that it was an honest mistake on the website and that they would change their website to show it out of stock. I looked almost 24 hours since they called me and it still says "Usually Ships In 1-2 Business Days".

From my experience this appears to be a "bait and switch".
I was skeptical to begin with after reading reseller reviews but thought I would give them a chance. I ordered at night and the next morning they called and said the Canon CG-800 charger is on back order even though I looked again on their website and it says "Stock: Usually Ships In 1-2 Business Days".
They said that they had another charger to sell me for the same price but it wasn't a Canon. I declined and asked for a refund to my Paypal account.
Off to Newegg.com to purchase it for a few dollars more.

I am so gullible! They offer a Sony flash at a good price, and then after ordering, I'm notified that it is unavailable, but they can give me a "great" price on a Vivitar flash, even stating that it is "better" than the Sony. Well, after receiving it, not only does it NOT do what the salesman claimed, but I paid twice as much for it than anyone else has it on line. After complaining, they send me a rechargable battery set. Wow, that really made up for everything. I am so dumb...but I learned a lesson...and I will never fall for that again, nor will I ever shop with NWV Direct or recommend them again.

Very sketchy outfit. After ordering a Pentax AF 360 FGZ flash from NWV, I posted about it on a forum. One of the forum members responded that he had dealt with them before, and that I should expect a call from them saying that the item had just run out of stock--a classic bait-and-switch tactic. Sure enough, they called the next business day and said the flash had just run out of stock. I asked them to cancel my order immediately. The only positive side of this is that I got my money back, but these guys have "scam" written all over them.
