Ordered a camera for the wife's Christmas present and although it was made (very) clear not to call the house as it could ruin the suprise they still did and confirmed the credit card transaction with the wife:-((  
Besides that no other complaints.

I’m glad I decided to order from butterflyphoto.com, because their prices can’t be beat and I received my order on-time, with all the standard retail packaging.  
 
I’m always hesitant to deviate from the tried and true resellers like newegg.com. I was particularly concerned about buying from butterflyphoto.com, because I had heard that their sales department would contact me and try to sell me camera accessories before they completed my order. Fortunately, I received no such phone call.  
 
I can’t vouch for all low-cost online resellers, but I can say that I would definitely buy again from butterflyphoto.com.

I purchased a Nikon Coolpix 5700 from this merchant from their website. I selected this retailer because of their CNET rating and low price+shipping. As others have reported, I received an email requesting that I call and 'verify' my order. I called and was asked to verify my address and provide my credit card security code. I then got a pitch for an extended life battery to which I replied that I had already purchased all the accessories for this camera from other sources. The rep then replied "enjoy your new camera." and that was it...no high pressure at all. I received an email with shipping confirmation and tracking number within 2 hours. Shipping was upgraded from ground to 2-day, was shipped that day (Friday) and received on Monday in good condition. The product was as advertised. I am very satisfied with this retailer and would do business with them again.

I ordered based on price and the fact that the site said that all products sold would be new and include the US warranty. It was only afterward that I came to this rating site and saw some dismaying things about the company. I didn't want to deal with a 'confirmation'/sales call -- I ordered online rather than by phone by preference, and resented the notion that they'd require me to call anyway.  
 
I ordered on a Saturday. The confirmation email said it would take 24-72 hours to process my order, but I figured Sunday wouldn't count. Still, when Wednesday rolled around and I hadn't received a tracking number OR the dreaded sales call, I was getting twitchy. Finally, I sent email asking to cancel my order (with the thought of re-ordering from somewhere a little more reputable). That same evening, I received a shipping confirmation, and I the camera arrived Saturday morning. They didn't respond to my cancellation request at all, not even to say "sorry, we already shipped it." They did upgrade me to second-day service without charge or comment, perhaps because of the delay in processing my order. I didn't get the feeling the shipping (or the upgrade) was a response to my message; certainly I got no personalized comment.  
 
In the end... I've got my camera, it is indeed new and with warranty, I'm pleased to have saved some money, and nobody called me... but I still wouldn't order from them again.

I ordered a Minolta DiMAGE A1 on a Sunday. I explained that I didn't want to receive any follow-up phone calls trying to sell me additional items. The salesman assured me I wouldn't--and I didn't! He did try to sell me a lens cover (didn't need it) and an extended warranty (didn't want it). He wasn't as pushy as I expected he might be. The price was exactly what I anticipated (shipping was free), it shipped out via 2-day Fedex on Monday, and I received it on Wednesday, intact and in perfect condition--precisely what I ordered. I was very happy with the treatment I received from Butterfly and would definitely buy from them again if the price was right.

This company lied to me from the very start. Called next day and comfirmed order, said it would ship same day and I would receive tracking #. Next day I called. Still not shipped. same thing each day except Thanksgiving and Saturday. Same thing following Monday. Tuesday morning I called to cancel and they said it shipped Monday evening and gave me a tracking # which didn't show up on Fedex. Checked back later and different employee said it would ship that day. I told him employee in morning said it shipped yesterday so to cancel order. He said it would be cancelled, so what do they do, they actually ship it that night in which I refused shipment. I have bought a lot of stuff on the internet but was never treated like this company treated me. I sent a complaint by fax to the President of the company but don't expect any answer as they never answered my emails or told me the truth if about 6 to 8 phone calls.

I ordered a Sony DSC-V1 camera on a Sunday and had it in my hands by Wednesday. The person who took my order was courteous. He tried to sell me a memory stick which I declined. He then suggested I needed a better battery than the one that came with the camera. I had priced batteries at other online shops and found one at a good price. However since I was told this was a better battery and it was on sale, I ordered one. I was very disappointed when I opened the package and noticed that it was the very same one that came with my camera! So I paid much more than I wanted to pay. I called back Friday at the extension I was told and got voice mail. I left a message about the battery and of course, he never returned my call. I'm not sure I will ever shop there again.

Ordered a Canon EF22-55 USM zoom lens, they charged my credit card on 10/14. After 6 phone calls to Customer Service, they still had not shipped the lens as of 12-3. Many promises to "ship it out tomorrow first thing", no results. Latest promise is to ship it out on 12-5 and I "will definitely get it by Monday". We'll see... I believe Federal Interstate Commerce regulations require companies engaging in interstate commerce to notify and offer a refund to customers not receiving merchandise within 30 days of being charged for it.  
 
Update: As expected, usual "we'll ship it out today" response when I called yesterday. So I tried to cancel the order. They disconnected me instead. Took several phone calls but finally I did get a customer service (and I use the term loosely) rep who tried to sell me another lens but then promised to credit my card account. However I'll just dispute the charge with my card company and let BPhoto deal with them instead. Typical NY camera ripoff outfit!

I had difficulty with this business. I ordered a canon digital rebel and lenses. They suggested additional equipment which I decided to buy. One lens was priced $199. When the order arrived, a non-canon lens that wasn't even listed on their website had been substituted, and I was charged $219 for it. I called to get a return authorization for the the lens. I included the specs for the right lens with the return. The second lens was a canon, but a cheaper version (non-usm--at the higher quality lens price. I returned the lens, cancelled the order, and asked that they credit my account-we'll see how that goes. Shipping of the lenses has cost me $19. Although I kept the accessories (filters, battery, compact flash card). They were off-brands at name brand prices. I will not shop here again. It was a waste of time and ended up costing me more than if I had used B&H.

Ordered Dimage A1 on Sunday. They called Monday to confirm order. No hard sell on any other stuff. Was offered the Minolta rebate offers which I declined. Camera arrived 2 day Fedex on Wednesday. Brand new out of the box with everything as listed. Excellent experience. Thanks.

I ordered a Sony TRV38 and extra battery at the web site on Monday. I received it on Wedneday unopened and in perfect condition. I had to call Monday night to confirm. After the expected sales pitch for extras, I agreed to buy 3 tapes at an inflated price. I do think this is the key to making sure everything goes smooth. I spent a little extra for the tapes (the battery price was OK). I was suprised when the package arrived and noticed that shipping had been upgraded to 2nd day for free. I spent $20 more for the tapes than the lowest price elsewhere but ended up saving about $300 compared to Best Buy.

Ordered item on a Friday, had to call after 72 hours to confirm order (no notice of shipment). Turns out you have to call anyway so they can try to sell additional accessories/warranties. No hard sell, but damn annoying since nothing said I should call. Took another day to get a call that shipping addr on CC had a "problem". Something about them being unable to confirm destination could recieve FedEx (load of BS, whatever). Item finally shipped almost a week later. Every time I called I got passed to 3 different reps, each more unfriendly than the last.

I ordered a Powershot S45 over the web on October 7th, and received it on the 10th. No phone calls or anything asking me to buy accessories, everything was hassle-free. I requested three day shipping, and got 2 day FedEx shipping with no extra charge. Both the prices and the service are great. I couldn't be happier.

I'll make this short! Phoned the company to place an order for a Nikon Coolpix 5700. Didn't bother placing the order over the web as I knew they'd make me call to "verify" the order anyway in order to sell me more accessories. The price was among the lowest that actually had a good writeup here on this site. Phone rep was decent. Tried to sell me every accessory possible, but wasn't real pushy. I took the cheapest thing that I could actually use (probably inflated price, but figured I may need to buy something to actually get the camera shipped). Told the rep I needed the purchase to go through by the next day to get the manf. rebate. Got a fedex # emailed to me later that day, the 2 day fedexed the product. It arrived quick. It was boxed well with all accessories and in perfect shape. I would definitely use them again  
 
ps. I was a little worried going in, but the order came out great. I don't have any connection to the company.
