I am a mariner, and I can not sail without a computer...and with my lifestyle nothing but a laptop will do.  
The Discountlaptops homepage was informative and helped me make educated decesions about my choice. And what a choice it was; an elegant, poweful laptop that "ATE ALIVE" any other gaming laptop on my ship (and most desktops!). The 17" wsxga wide screen made for incredible gaming & DVD playback experiences and the 256 mb radeon 9700 was the only 256mb mobile chipset out there then...and discountlaptops had it, and for an honest price!  
Six months into the factory warrenty I had a glitch, and Matt and Shannon were there to get me through, they had not forgotten me even though the sale was "a done deal". They gave constant real and tangable support helping me contact the factory and expediting the RMA process to it's happy conclusion.  
Superior service! I absolutely can not believe the level of service offered by the discountlaptop crew. Their indepth knowledge of their products coupled with a 'can do' attitude have won my loyalty.  
When this bad boy I'm using now goes to the big recycle bin in the sky...I'll still be here and going to Discountlaptops for my new baby.

well, i have to say that i am pretty hapy with the service at discount laptops. their responses to my emails took only an hour or two, not days like many other vendors. their prices are pretty competitive, but you cant beat their service. id do business with them again.  
 
i did run into some prolems with the notebook itself though. when it arived it didnt turn on due to a deffective battery, but i cant really fault discount laptops for that. everything is fine now since i recieved a new battery. in fact, im doing my review on the notebook right now.  
 
the staff over at discount laptops really gave me the impression that they really cared about me... it kind of gets ya right there *points to heart* :-)

Best online purchase experience I ever had (well, maybe tied with NewEgg).  
After much research I decided on an Asus Z71V, and more research showed DiscountLaptops with the best price (Chembook 2371). I ordered it Wed afternoon, it was built and shipped the same day. I had the laptop by Friday. Amazing.  
The unit is everything I expected. It works flawlessly. And it comes with the software on CD for restore purposes - many retailers don't include that, and make you order it separately for an additional cost if you need it later.

I ordered A Chembook 2371v (ASUS A7v1) from discount laptops on May 10th, 2005. They answered my preorder questions within 30min of me sending the emails. See if dell or hp is that fast. Also there site does not seem to like Mozilla Firefox they notifed me of this and my order went through seemlessly. They also gave me a estimated ship date of the laptop. I ordered the laptop on a tues day, It was BUILT and shipped the next day and i recieved it on a Friday with 2day air shipping via UPS. Laptop was in perfect condition, no dead or stuck pixels. Everything was as I dreamed.  
 
Later I found out that I was suppose to get a Built ON Asus sticker, I emailed them yesterday about it and again within 30min they replyed and said i should have got one from chembook since they are the ones who actually built it. So with out complaint or hestation they mailed me out one ;). Cant bet that, i recommend Discountlaptops to anyone looking for fast affordable mobil laptops. ALso you get 2yr free warranty and accidental damage coverage, i havnt seen anyother asus/chembook reseller offer this. SO i was over joyed. Well thats my review hope it was helpful.

My experience with DiscountLaptops.com was very positive. They had the best price for the notebook I was looking for (Asus Z71V)(Chembook 2371V) and seemed more professional than their competitors. I had a few pre-sales questions and they were all answered very quickly and politely. When I ordered it took only two days for them to build the computer and ship it out. My only regret in the whole purchase was not choosing 3 day air shipping. I chose ground shipping to save money, and it took 10 days to arrive at my house (Upstate NY) from the day it shipped from California. Of course, this is due to UPS shipping and is not DiscountLaptops fault at all. I am very happy with my laptop and feel that I received a high quality laptop from a reputable dealer which makes me glad that I decided to spend the extra money instead of going with a Dell. I would recommend DiscountLaptops to my friends and would definitely buy from them again.

ChemBook 2056-X (Compal 56). The configuration I chose is as follows: 2.0 GHz Pentium M Dothan CPU; 1GB PC2700 RAM; Hitachi 60GB 7200rpm hard drive; DVD/CD-RW drive; onboard 802.11a+b+g WiFi; ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 video card with 128MB VRAM; plenty of ports; 15" SXGA+ display.

The ChemBook 2056-X  
I've had this laptop now for a few months, and I love it. It's lightweight, has very good battery life, and runs cool and quiet. It's not based around the newest technology, i.e. Alviso/Sonoma platform, but I don't need the latest and greatest. I bought this for work projects and gaming, and it runs all my software beautifully and multitasks well. It's not my main computer (I also have a desktop), but I still use it nearly every day and certainly when traveling. The keyboard is solid and comfortable, and the display is crisp and sharp. No dead pixels. If you're looking for a multimedia laptop, you might prefer one with a 15.4" widescreen display. There are a lot of user reviews online for the Compal 56 and some complaints about the screen, but this isn't designed for multimedia or Photoshop work, in my opinion, so you have to look at it in that light  
 
Tech Support  
I've had several laptops over the years and rarely need tech support. But often you really find out what sort of company you're dealing with when something goes wrong. The XP disk that came with my laptop turned out to be defective causing a system shutdown when in the middle of an OS reinstall. I won't go into all the details, but Matt, Mathew, Shannon and the people at ChemUSA all came through for me wonderfully so I could get back up and running as quickly as possible.  
 
Other  
Over the last few months, they added a forum to their website so users can share tips, post reviews, and so on. Thumbs up!
