This is my 3rd purchase of a laptop from discountlaptops.com My previous experiences were positive and so I am a repeat customer. This time has not been quite so positive. While the staff is friendly and helpful, a number of mistakes add up to look like careless indifference.  
 
1) 12 Dec 2005: After I selected the laptop I wanted based on the description/price posted on the web site, when I went to the order form, the 1024 MB RAM advertised with the base price was not there, only 512 MB, to "upgrade" to 1024 raised the price. :-(  
 
2) After oredering the laptop, I was called a day or two later and told that my order had not been processed because the optional 120 GB 7200 RPM disk I had requested was not available. :-( OK, I accepted a smaller disk.  
 
3) Next, another day later, my laptop was still not processed because they need to inform me of another change in the published specification regarding the WiFi card. Not a big deal in itself....  
 
4) 15 Dec 2005: I received an email saying that my order was being processed and would ship that day :-) We had agreed that it would ship by UPS since I live out in the country and UPS is familiar with delivering to my rural address. But after a few days the shipping info and tracking number was still not available from the website :-(  
 
5) 19 Dec 2005: So I called and enquired, I was told that it looked like not only had my order not been shipped but it had not been processed. I was promised a call back or email with a status. While I called in the morning, I never received any word back that day.  
 
6) 20 Dec 2005: Today I received an email stating that my order shipped yesterday by UPS. But the tracking number provided is a FedEx tracking number :-( No explanation was provided as to why the delay, the email was unsigned.  
 
7) I will update this when I get the laptop, each of the above is fairly minor (except for the 512 MB RAM) but in total it adds up to a less than sterling performance. Rating: some room for improvement

As the owner of the shop, I and appreciate your feedback. It is important for me to hear about these types of experiences so they can be addressed.  
 
We have a fairly good accounting on the time-line of an order. I wanted to share that with you along with my responses.  
 
1) ******. There appeared to be a typo mistake on the quick description table. The 2381 was just barley set up and it appears it should have been looked over before going live. I can share your frustration with this and have addressed with with our staff.  
 
At least the actual configurator which is where you actually build the system on our site was correct from the beginning.  
 
I have refuned the cost of the upgrade ($75) back to your credit card and updated the invoice.******  
 
2) ********Even though it may have seemed like it took a lot longer, the call was placed just the next morning as soon as we opened for business. Perhaps this time-line give a better picture  
 
12/12/05 3:47PM - Order received  
 
12/12/05 4:30PM - Conference call completed with Card card bank to verify billing/shipping address  
 
12/12/05 5:09PM - Expected shipping notice received at DL from ChemUSA production  
 
12/13/05 9:12AM - DL is notified by ChemUSA of a hard drive shortage, we need to contact customer to find out more. We then start trying to reach you to discuss.  
 
12/13/05 12:07PM - Updated configuration confirmation sent after we spoke to yo on the phone a few times regarding the hard drive shortage.  
 
3) ****Another problem that could have been prevented has we known more. I can only apologize. ChemUSA did not realize ASUS bundles the Wifi card with the notebook and the specs provided to us were incorrect. Normally we instruct ChemUSA to add ABG wireless cards to all Centrino notebooks, but since ASUS bundles the card (on this notebook only) we were incorrect. Thus, $35 was refunded back to your card. What we should have done is have ChemUSA put the ABG card in the system at our expense and still refund the $35.  
 
We can still do this if you like, just let us know. We have already refunded tha amount of the card back to you so the wifi card was free to you. *****  
 
4) *******Do you mean the expected shipping notebook had a date of the 15th? I do not show any email being sent to you on the 15th. Perhaps this was a phone conversation... Please let me know.******  
 
5) *******The order was definitely processed, I am not sure how we mis- communicated that to you. But, you are correct, the order had not shipped. When we called ChemUSA, they informed us the system had not yet passed the testing phased because of a CD Rom problem. The problem here is ChemUSA did not notify us of the delay, perhaps because of the time of year, I am not sure. When we discovered this, Mathew upgraded the shipping to 2-day air to make up for the day. This was done before you posted your review.  
 
*Update*: Yet another mistake has been made on your order. I just found out ChemUSA did not ship out your order by 2-day air as instructed, but shipped it by Ground. It sounds like you spoke with Mathew and he refunded the shipping costs back to you. What a mess***********  
 
6) *************ChemUSA switch to FedEx from UPS a short time and the template did reference UPS incorrectly. The template has been fixed. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. The tracking link did reference the FedEx website. Normally, notes are not added to shipping notices, it is just a notification**************  
 
7) ********** We look forward to hearing the update*****  
 
Honestly, I am embarrassed about hearing of your experience. Your order was a complete train wreck. You have been very polite and I appreciate the time you have taken to report the problems. It seems like DL/ChemUSA made more mistakes on your order alone than the rest of the orders all year. If there is anything I can do to make up for the errors, please let me know. You are a valued customer of DiscountLaptops.com (I know, I processed your previous two orders myself) and I want to make sure you know we appreciate your repeat support.

Excellent company in every way.  
 
I had some questions prior to ordering and I was able to reach qualified, friendly, and helpful people via phone or email in almost no time. Their answers were always useful and I was able to get the product information I needed. After the purchase, they were equally responsive and helpful.  
I ended up being unhappy with the machine (but this is Sager's problem, not discountlaptops's) and they were courteous and prompt about the RMA and refund process.  
I'd highly recommend them to anyone.

I ordered a Chembook 2030 from discount Laptops on November 15th. I opted for the secured cash payment so the order would be processed right away and I would get the 2.5% discount. My laptop is on schedule to be here on Wednesday. Will update this when I receive it.  
 
I do have to say that there custom is top notch. After ordering the computer without an Operating System I could not locate the Windows Xp I thought I had somewhere. I decided to e-mail Discount Laptops and see if there was anyway they could get XP Professional put into the box as to not pay extra shipping to get it. I e-mailed them late at night so calling was not an option. Keep in mind I had already sent my cashiers check for the original amount without XP. Discount Laptops called me shortly after they received the e-mail and told me they could get XP shipped with the laptop. Not only did they get it shipped with it they got XP installed on it and still got it shipped when they said it would ship. Also they just charged the remaining cost of XP to my charge card and I was able to keep the 2.5% discount. I am very pleased with the service I have gotten from Shannon at Discount Laptops and will be recommended them to everyone that is search of a laptop. Thanks DiscountLaptops for treating customers like they should be treated.

It has been a pleasure ordering my Sager NP5720-V from discount laptops. Everything was handled in a very professional manner and delivery was right on time. I spoke with both Matt and Shannon on the phone at various times concerning my order and they were extremely helpful and knowledgeable about all of their products. I would not hesitate to order anything from them again, in fact as the family tech guy, I have already recommended them to 3 family members concerning laptops.

After having the worst purchasing experience in my life with Digital Audio Wave - see my review, I was lucky enough to experience the best with DiscountLaptops and Sager Notebooks.  
 
Having given up on AMD products after a miserable experience, I finally found a laptop with a good graphics card, 12-cell battery, small screen and powerful processor (PM770) - the Sager 4881. I was very wary of ordering from a place called DiscountLaptops and so called Sager to order direct. While on the phone with Sager I asked about Discount Laptops and the gentleman told me it was the exact same product and warranties (including a 30-day money back guarantee) but cheaper from them so I decided to order from there.  
 
I had a bunch of questions all of which were answered by Discount Laptops and Sager promptly. The computer came within 2 weeks and I tested every aspect of it I could and about 3 weeks into my guarantee, the screen started to flicker. The cord to the back of the laptop was also too loose. They immediately sent a replacement cord which has since worked great.  
 
Being close to the money back guarantee date though, I was worried if I returned it for repair and got it back and it still wasn't working (like I've had happen before), I would be out of my guarantee period. Having set everything on the laptop up already, and not having any dead pixels, I was hoping to keep the same computer so I called up Sager and DiscountLaptops and asked a favor. They're going to kill me for sharing this, but we worked out a way to give them enough time to fix it and time for me to check it out when it returned while avoiding returning the computer and ordering the exact same setup again :)!  
 
When they got the computer, they returned it the next day. When I asked how they turned it around so fast - they said they just replaced the computer with a new one! Not only that, but when I got it back, they were kind enough to have moved the hard disk I had spent so much time setting up from the old computer to the new one which saved me hours!! This is the exact opposite of all the nightmares I've read about where hard disks are wiped out for no good reason.  
 
The whole time the folks at DiscountLaptops kept an eye on my order, emailed me without prompting when they saw it was delayed by a couple of days initially (although it still came relatively fast), answered all of my questions, spent lots of time with me on the phone, and helped set up and track the repairs. The Sager folks were responsive, flexible and delivered a great product with thoughtful and fast service times.  
 
I couldn't have been more pleased and am loving my laptop. Thanks to DiscountLaptops and Sager!!!

This site is great... I orfered my 9860 from them last year and have only had one minor problem with it. The customer service was top notch and they helped me take care of the problem promptly. Their prices are good and they shipped my order in a timely fasion....

The staff at Discount Laptops IMHO represent what should be the goal of ALL online resellers. On a scale of 1 to 10 I give them an 11 for their patience and understanding all my questions and their stellar support after having some issues with the Sager 5320-C laptop I purchased through them. Their pricing was competetive and with the 2% cash discount gave them that edge. The most important factors for me in the purchase was product features, mfg quality, customer service and lastly price. The laptop arrived exactly as and when promised and when I immediately ahd an issue with the CD/DVD not reading properly they assisted me in getting that issue resolved. 1 week later the system board went bad I needed to RMA the whole unit. The folks at Discount Laptops again came through with fantastic support.  
I HIGHLY reccommend them and would/will buy again from them in the future.

I decided to buy from this company based on there ratings here on Resellerratings and there price on a new Sager NP5710 notebook. There site is well organized and it was easy to make my choice of what laptop I wanted to purchase. I had a problem with my credit card company declining the purchase and the people at discountlaptops were a great help in getting that resolved. Great laptop, great price and great service make discountlatops and excellent choice for a laptop purchase.

My entire experience with discountlaptops.com was excellent. Before purchasing, I called several times with questions. Each time they answered accurately and politely. They even called back when they needed to check with ChemBook for information. The notebook arrived on time and in excellent condition. I had a minor issue after receiving it, and their support was outstanding. I would definitely purchase from them again, and have already recommended them to some friends.

Bought Sager NP5720 - V  
I've only listed the changeable options that I selected.  
 
2.0 Intel Pentium M (760)  
2048 MB DDR2 SDRAM (533 MHz, PC-4200, Dual Channel)  
100 GB Hard Drive (7200 RPM)  
 
Oct-29 - Looked at the sager site and they are saying shipping will start Nov 1st so still waiting.  
 
Nov 7th - Finally got the laptop. Reason for delay was that they had to ship to Nevada first so that I wouldn't get hit with the sales tax from California, which was fine by me.  
 
To say I was extremely skeptical about buying from anyone other than Dell even though they don't have anything that I really like would be an understatement. I have read horror stories about places like alienware as such I was a little hesitant about buying form these guys. After reading the many reviews I decided to take the plunge.  
 
It did seem strange that sager who brands these gets lower scores on service and are slightly more expensive than discountlaptops.  
 
But since then I have been extremely satisfied with the service and now that I have my laptop the product itself.  
 
The person I talked to online Matt I beleive was extremely helpful, and the thing I really liked was that they were proactive about everything. My order gets delayed they ring me. I'm so used to having vendors treat me like they're doing me a favour when I'm purchasing something from them that I was pleasantly surprised.  
 
I need my tracking number updated the rep on the phone does it and asks me to refresh my browser. Thats what was called service back in the day.  
 
I ask about oem version of windows and get a straight answer. That was called honesty back in the day.  
 
Now all that remains is to see how well the hardware holds up, though I'm not too worried. I'll do a post again in 6 months.  
 
This laptop was just for my fiance. Based on their service alone I'll definately be making a sizable pruchase one we start to see the dual cores come out.  
 
Only one more thing I'd like to see from an offereing point of view and that is OS's like Windows server. Some of us will actually be buying laptops for work :).

AMAZING.I was treated like I was buying my kick ass Sager 9880 from a neighborhood friend.I researched my purchase for many hours over the coarse of several months and Discountlaptops never failed. They had no problem answering all my questions, simple to complex,they spent whatever time I needed to be reassured of my purchase. When I called my call was taken in seconds, and get this, by the same guy over the coarse of 2 weeks!!! Incrediable, Matt was friendly, knowladgeable, curtious,professional and prompt.WOW! I was treated like a high roller, like I was buying 30 units. Little ole me. Every company on the net should take classes from this company. My price was hundereds of dollars cheaper than Alienware or anyware else. Thell get mad at me for saying, but even when I had a gripe about shipping price they bent over backwords to cut me a break!!!! I still would have bought from them, but heck I cant say enough. They are more patient then most pastors and will make you happy if it sends them to an early grave. So you get a great, awesome, price,quality product, and seriously the best customer service anywhere! Save yourself the hours of comparison if your serious about getting the best, BUY IT FROM DISCOUNTLAPTOPS.COM. Trust me I did all the research one could do.
