RESPOND to MICROCENTER:
Thanks for pull that up. I did request to talk to manager. But she said "samething that's our store policy we can't do anything better."
Tell us, why didn't you seal all the Brand New Stuff? and the sign said " No Refund or Return OPENED Motherboard" Please take the word OPENED down. None of them were sealed how dare you put that sign there. isn't it a customer's trap? It's not about $70 dollars. It's about your integrity. This is not the first complain, so this for sure your store's fault. Good store never get that low score. Please go and teach your employees how to deal with customers.
==================================================
Microcenter Traps customers to their Return-Policy and Customer Serives Are suck. You can see this complain over again in other reviews.I was so stupid that i didn't read these reviews before i step in there. I bought an ASUS M4A78-EM motherboard and AZZA 500W Power supply at MICRO CENTER on JANUARY 4th 2010 and an hour later i change my mind for other model. I came and return it. A Fat Lady at TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA store talked to me like this without looking at me "We dont do return nor refund motherboard PERIOD-- Next Customer Please". BUT on the Sign at RETURN COUNTER, it said." WE DONT REFUND OPENED MOTHERBOARD" Ridiculous, None of the Brand-New motherboards in store is sealed. They try to force us keep stuff once we paid and we can't even exchange for store credit or other model of motherboard. BE AWARE. My conversation at the store---- ME: "I didn't opened it, i just bought it and change my mind for other model." FAT LADY:"Doesn't matter, we didn't seal motherboard there is no-way to check if you opened it or not" ME: " Ok, i dont need cash refund, i just need to change other model or store credit to buy other stuffs, is there anyway?" FAT LADY:"no, we dont do refund nor return motherboard, Period" I was so mad and tore the receipt right there and threw at her. I said, So what's this receipt for? I will never step into MICRO CENTER again. First time to microcenter, I SWEAR NEVER STEP BACK AGAIN.

I understand the frustration of the customer but I am shocked that this review was posted with the disparaging remarks towards the associate. This issue could have been handled at the store if customer requested to speak with manager as opposed to ripping and throwing the receipt at associate. We could have addressed the customer's concern regarding the customer service he received as well as the return policy. |

I have tried to order online twice from their website. Both times they cancelled my order a few days later stating that the item is unavailable. With the fact they are a technical store and the software out there does keep exact tracking of items in a warehouse, it floors me that they can't keep promise to deliver my items. Both instances were also with no real appology or offer of a coupon for the hassle and waste of my time... Their store here in St Louis Park, MN isn't much better. Their service is the worst in all the technical stores I have shopped. They really need to step it up is they plan to keep customers business.

Good: the offline store has very good prices on some items.
Bad: the online store sucks, the offline store personnel sucks too.
I purchased MS Natural keyboard 4000, OEM version since it's only half-price compared to the retail one. I did it online to save time visiting the store. Paid extra $6 S&H. They sent me some crappy mouse instead.
The customer service guy told me to go to the store and get a replacement (what did I pay the shipping for - the in-store pickup is free). The store customer service told me to go and find the keyboard on the shelves myself. Very nice of them taking into account the fact that the OEM keyboards have no readable labels on them and I had to check a lot of boxes. I asked a sales guy to help me, but he said he's too busy and ran away.
After about an our I left the store. Had to call the customer service again and they promised to ship the keyboard and return label for the mouse. I hope this time they will send the right item (still waiting for it).
So, the result of this is waste of S&H charge and about 2 hours of time in the store. If I knew how this store works, I'd better pay another extra 5 bucks and order the keyboard from some other store.
BTW, a sales guy in the store tried to convince me that OEM keyboards can not be sold without "some hardware like a computer".
UPDATE: Thanks to the MCOL, the keyboard finally arrived. The conflict has been resolved. This review was modified by its author, kalobok, on

Dear Kalobk,
We apologize for inconvenience of being sent the incorrect item as well as the service you received at the store. Our records show that you called on Saturday, Aug 22nd to report that the wrong product was shipped. The replacement order and return label is being sent today, Monday, Aug 24th. The customer service associate suggested going to the store only because he thought you would have the replacement the same day vs. having us ship the item to you. We will reimburse you the shipping cost and address the service issue with our retail management team.

Microcenter had the Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom-NIKKOR 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED Lens for $149.99 on 1/23/09. I could have ordered it online, but stopped by the store in Santa Clara to get it sooner. Sales guy in Peripheral Sales said they had one in inventory; searched but could not locate it. About 45 minutes later, he said he would search more thoroughly after the store closes, and if they had it, I can come pick it up, and if not, he would have one shipped from another store. In any case, the cost to me would be the same price. No phone calls from him whatsoever. So called him back a few times days later. Left several messages. No return calls.
Extreme thumbs-down for 1) not honoring their word, 2) empty salesman promises, and 3) wasting my time, both at the store, and on the phone.

I really despise companies that have an "inventory status" but it's not even real-time or accurate.
The nearest Micro Center was showing 1 item in stock for pickup. (After I ordered it, the quantity did change to 0.) I ordered around 7 AM, before the store even opened, so no other customer should have claimed that last one. I had to wait for confirmation email until an hour later. The actual "Ready for pickup" email didn't come until 10:43 AM (40 minutes AFTER the store opened). I ordered two items, but the one showing the quantity of 1 was canceled and only a partial pickup was allowed. The employee tells me he could not find it and it was probably lost -- and "it happens"; that's not a very good excuse.
Pickup orders that are unfulfilled due to their mistake are just simply canceled. There is no backorder/raincheck or any compensation. That is bad business if you ask me. I don't understand why if one were to order it to have it shipped, then they get the option of waiting for backorder, but not if it's pickup? A company with good customer service would actually have the item ship free of charge if the item cannot be picked up -- not just cancel and forget like the whole thing never happned -- when the store claims they had it in the first place.
It's one thing if it's showing out of stock and one tries to order it, but if they claim they have it in stock, they should take some more responsibility.
What irritates me more is that even after the cancellation, it's showing a quantity of 1 in stock for it again. However, the price had been raised than the time I first ordered. That got me suspicious. I decided to order it again anyway just to see what would happen. The second time I ordered it (the next day), it was around 5 AM, but received cancellation again. This time, though, it took longer for them to send the email; it was at 11:40 AM when they sent the pickup cancellation. Every time they cancel my order, they seem to update the quantity back to 1 again. Hmm.
This was not a good first time pickup experience with Micro Center. I have done pickup orders from other competitors and they have been much quicker sending order confirmation and have services such as offering gift cards for pickup orders if the order cannot be fulfilled when it's showing in stock.
It would also help to show the Order # on the order confirmation email too. If you don' save the invoice at the time you ordered, you won't be able to find out your order number. That's pretty ridiculous.
Considering Micro Center is mainly a computer store, it's even more dissatisfying to know their own computers/ordering system has issues.
Update 8/15/08 - I just checked the website and now it's showing 19 in stock. All of a sudden, they restocked 19?! That just makes me even more angry. This review was modified by its author, Robo209, on

The MicroCenter online is a really bad online company. I purchased two items (OEM CPU and fan) on 4/25/2008. However, CPU was cancelled and fan was still in stock. I called customer service less than 30 min after I received the cancellation email. One rep promised me that he would help me cancel the other item and call me back. Two hour later, I received another email stating the fan was shipped (In fact, only its electronic shipping information was entered in the Fedex system). I called the customer service again and the same rep answered and promised me again that he would do something to stop dropping off. However, I did not receive anything from him and instead found the item was dropped off at Fedex. I got a charge of $5.48 in my credit card. I had no choice but contact Fedex to return the item to Microcenter. What was worse was that Microcenter only refunded me partially ($4.51) one month after transaction (5/17/2008). I contacted microcenter three times for the issue and got three promises with no refund during the past 3 weeks. Finally, I had to contact my credit card to get the $0.97 back to my account today (6/4/2008). I can see that, with this type of terrible services, Microcenter will become super micro and disappeared in the market very soon. Please be gone, Microcenter! I had not purchased from Micro center before and I am not likely to in the future. Their web site does not say whether a part is in stock so I did and on-line chat and the rep said they had the part I wanted. Their web site would not accept my (correct) billing address on my credit card so I had to place the order by phone. The rep that took the order said yes they had the part. Next day, no conformation so I called. The rep said they had it in stock and it should ship soon. Two days later, I called and the the rep said they did not have it in stock and when when I told him 3 other people said it was in stock when I ordered it, he said they don't keep a real time inventory and they didn't find out that it was not in stock when I ordered it until two days later. WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP. First impressions guys, first impressions.

According to our records, your order was placed on Tuesday, April 8th and shipped on April 14th. Currently, we do not have real time inventory on all of our products and we have items go into backorder status. We are working on updating our website to provide real time inventory. We do apologize for the delay in processing your order. |

Store advertised a $20 rebate on a Buffalo Hard Drive. Seny everything in as instructed. Get a letter back stating I did not include the UPC (a lie). Never buy anything from Micro Center which has a rebate. You will not get it.

You are welcome to contact our Corporate offices at 614-850-3000. We try to satisfy all customers when given the opportunity. Buffalo hosts their own rebates and their decisions are out of our control. We would be happy to call them on your behalf in an attempt to resolve this issue.

Original Review:
As the ratings indicate, this is one craphole of a company. I ordered a printer and digital camera online. The printer had a rebate that said the printer had to be purchased with the digital camera. Long story short, MicroCenter canceled the printer and shipped out the camera without my permission. I sent the camera back. It took over a month to get the refund and they didn't refund the shipping. I called them up and the guy said he would go ahead and credit me the shipping. Of course he didn't.
Stay away from this sham of a company if buying online. They will screw you whatever way they can.
Updates:
I did end up receiving the shipping credit as the MicroCenter rep said. I just missed it when reviewing my CC statement. While I do appreciate the credit I should not have had to call to get it.
The core problem of this whole purchase experience is that MicroCenter ships partial orders out when they know they are going to backorder or even cancel the rest of the order. When offering a rebate on a combo purchase, MicroCenter should check with the customer if they still want half their order if the other half is canceled/backordered.
Also, MicroCenter needs to have live inventory tracking on their website like any reputable online store. This review was modified by its author, wbynum, on

The rebate noted that a digital camera, motherboard and a printer had to be purchased at the same time. Unfortunately, the motherboard you chose (a low priced/discontinued model) sold out. Our records indicate that you returned the camera and we credited your account on 12/19/07. Per your call, we credited your $2.04 shipping on 1/23/08. If you still do not show the credit posted please give us a call and we can contact your credit card company. We apologize for the inconvenience. |

I just tried to put an order through Micro Center because of some deals they were offering, and because I called up the customer service representative to verify some shipping information about an item in stock, that item was subsequently removed from stock while I was in the process of making the order.
It is deceptive of them to remove a product just because they are not willing to honor a deal they have in place.
Because of this I will refer all friends and family to try a reputable website for there computer parts instead of Micro Center. This review was modified by its author, crazyman2099, on

There is no product or customer information available to provide a detailed explanation. However, our normal order process allows us to place orders (sometimes resulting in backorders) unless we are unable to obtain the product from our vendor. In your case, it may have been a timing issue where we were going through the process of disabling this product when you contacted us. Micro Center is indeed a reputable company. When it is determined that we can no longer obtain a product we have to disable the product until we are able to remove it from the site. We apologize for the inconvenience. |

I ordered five 20-packs of Verbatim DVD+R DL discs at an excellent price, including shipping fees. When the discs came in I discovered they were second-rate discs (made in India). I wanted to keep and use them, so I began backing up some of my prized DVDs. Two of four failed in the burn process, and the other two were quality tested with Nero and failed with numerous errors.
Micro Center issued and RMA and I returned them on October 17. They were signed for on October 19(I have a copy of the signature). Today is the 29th and I still don't have my credit issued. I had to pay shipping back even for a defective item. CS claims that they have no record of receipt, and they say their product manager is involved trying to track down the package.
They will not call back as promised and will not even email me to let me know anything. They may have good prices, but stay away from ordering online. Their B&M stores may be okay, but their online store leaves a lot to be desired.
This was my first and last purchase from them. This review was modified by its author, rcm999, on

We just set up our reseller ratings merchant account yesterday and wanted to respond to your concern. We did have issues locating your return. We agreed that the time it took to process your return was unacceptable. We discussed this issue with our Distribution Center in October. You noted that we never called you. Our records indicate that we spoke with you on Oct. 24th, 25th and 29th. On October 30th, we left a message that the return was processed and we apologized for the delay. The Verbatim product was sent back to the manufacturer with notations regarding the quality issue. I was unaware of the return shipping issue. We will issue a $9.95 credit for the shipping cost you incurred on the original order. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope that you consider Micro Center for future purchases. |

This was my first attempted purchase with this company. I ordered an item and it got canceled due to being oversold. Not a big deal and I can live with that but to leave the product posted on their website for a whole day accepting orders is just ridiculous. It destroys your confidence in a company that doesn't take steps to control their inventory or their website. I hope they make an effort to do better job in the future for everyone's sake.

We just set up our reseller ratings merchant account yesterday and wanted to respond to your concern. We were unable to remove the product from the website but we did disable the product so no more orders were taken. It was a web only email promotion that listed "while supplies last". Because it was such a good deal we sold out of the product and was unable to process your order. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope that you consider doing business with us again. |

This company participates in false advertising by offering products at one price and then cancelling orders when it realizes that it might be able to sell them at a higher price. I highly advise against doing business with this disreputible company if you need your products to arrive in a timely fashion at the price you agreed to pay. I'll never do business with them again.

I purchased an Xbox 360 from Micro Center prior to Christmas 2006 because they were running a special that included a $100 rebate. I immediately mailed all required materials for my rebate to the address indicated on the rebate form (the rebate center happened to be across town from where I live, so they should've received it within a day or two). After six weeks, I still hadn't received my rebate or any notification that it had ever been received, so I decided to try to track it on the Micro Center rebate tracking website. I put in my invoice number, name, address and it said that there was no record of my rebate. Being a trusting sort of guy, I decided to wait a little longer, figuring that it was the normal foot-dragging that seems to go along with rebates. After checking the website over the next two weeks and still being told there was no record of it, I decided to call the toll free number to ask about my rebate. When I finally was able to speak with a human, she told me that nothing was ever received. She told me to resubmit my rebate request, this time to a different department at the same address as my original submission. I did so and about a week later I received an email that stated that they had received my stuff and would process my rebate. The email said that it would still take 8 - 10 weeks to process. Now I was looking at late April to mid-May as when I could expect my rebate check. That would be four to five months after filing my rebate request.
Moral of the story? Do not ever buy anything from Micro Center that includes a rebate. You may never get your money. Or if you can live without the money for upwards of a 1/3 to 1/2 a year, then by all means, go ahead. IMO, you are better off buying what you want somewhere else where the list price is cheaper. The rebate at Micro Center seems to be a way to bring shoppers in, with them hoping that most people will not waste the energy or time to follow-up on it when it never shows up.
In fairness to Micro Center, I should state that I have had no problems with the Xbox 360 or the other stuff that I bought there, just with the rebate.

I purchased a Intel D975XBX2KR (Bad Axe 2). Online said "ships in 5-7 days", but it was the lowest price around so I ordered it from Micro Center. I was surprised when the next day, I received email that it shipped. I ended up receiving the motherboard in 3 days. It was the retail box, still factory sealed (with a Intel holographic sticker on it.) All in all, I was very impressed with the turn around time. The only downside is that they charge tax in IL. Shipping was reasonable at $6.
