I ordered 512MB of Kingston PC2700 RAM to build a computer for my roomate. It came, and I installed it, and as I was configuring the new system I realized there were only 256MB of memory. I quickly pulled the stick, and sure enough it was labeled 256MB, but the invoice clearly said 512. I called and called their customer service number periodically for three weeks, but their voice mail never was working. I sent an email to tech support, even though it was not a tech support issue, but I couldn't find a customer service email address on their website. The email bounced back two weeks later, undeliverable. I still have not heard from them months later, and now their website says "BuyMSTAR.com is unable to process orders at this time.
We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Avoid this company if neccesary, but it looks like someone finally caught up to them and they're gone. Hopefully. This review was modified by its author, jak21, on

Price Watch link indicated:
A. Free shipping via USPS; I was billed 7.18 and shipped FedEx
B. Product details indicated 1 year free updates ( Symantec AntiVirus); actual product received was for 90 days only. I have called and faxed several times during business hours and received no reply for over one week.

Summary:
Bad to non-existent customer service
Couldn't give me my invoice number
Non-responsive to inquiries about order status
STAY AWAY. Very dangerous. They actually turned off their phone system just to avoid having me leave more messages asking where my order was. I left various emails and phone numbers, only to never have them contact me, despite repeated promises to do so. At least, repeated promises when they answered the phone. After 45 minute waits. Not only that, but I ALWAYS talked to the same person- do they only have one employee answering the phones? The laws of statistics say 'yes'. Out of 6 successful contacts with them in the last 10 days, all 6 were with the same guy. The chances of that being coincidence are 2^6, or 1 in 64. That is a 1.56% chance. Very doubtful. Horribly run. This guy told me that my order status was on the desk of a superior, who wasn't in, and whose office was locked. He was NEVER in. Total runaround. STAY AWAY, THEY SUCK IMMENSELY.

I found that BuyMSTAR.com has prices that are within just a couple of bucks of the lowest prices listed on Pricewatch.com and Pricegrabber.com--their shipping prices are nice and cheap, too.
I found an awesome price on the Asus P4 motherboard I've been hunting for, and also purchased a brand-new P4 CPU. I'm happy!
UPDATE: Got the motherboard today, but have yet to see the CPU...should have been one package, but FedEx doesn't specify. Trying to call MStar right now--I've had them on speakerphone for a half an hour because I've been on hold the entire time. Passing time by working...hopefully the phone battery doesn't die on me. :P
Turned out they hadn't even shipped the CPU--I was billed and given a FedEx tracking number for a package that I was told contained two items, but only contained one. Nobody told me or emailed me anything about CPUs not being in stock, so they charged money to my card and assumed that it was okay to ship it at their discresion... The CSR told me that they would ship it to me on 2-day delivery at no charge... Well, okay.
NEW UPDATE: 2 days later...still haven't received the package, so I called MStar again. Turns out that they STILL haven't shipped my package!!!!! The CSR told me he'd ship it at 2-day delivery at no charge...again. So, my "2-day" delivery has actually taken more than a week. Extremely disappointed in the service with MStar. If anyone ordering from them is on a time constraint or just want to get your items soon--DO NOT BUY FROM MSTAR!!
Guess what? One of the CSRs contact me via phone and gave me my new FedEx tracking # for the CPU. I immediately wend to the FedEx website and found out that my package's estimated arrival date is in 5 days...not 2, like the CSR said he'd do...

Wow, horrible place to buy from. I bought a hard drive and it was bad right out of the box. Tried emailing, leaving messages, no response or reply. Also, if you call, be prepared to sit on hold for a while. I only got through 4 out of 5 times and that was after waiting on hold for at least 15 minutes. When I did get through, I told them I wanted a refund and they told me I "had" to give them a chance to replace the product. If I wanted a refund, I would be subject to a restocking fee so I said I wanted a replacement. Now I am on hold again, trying to see when they're going to ship my new item.
Bottom line, very slow shipment, non-existent customer service. Stay away, spend the extra money and go to circuit city.
UPDATE - They sent me a new item and IT WAS THE WRONG BRAND!!! On top of that, it was bad too. They packed a hard drive in 1 layer of bubble wrap with most of the bubbles popped and no peanuts both times. I sent the second bad drive back to them and I am disputing the charge with Amex and leaving a complaint at Pricewatch and the better business bureau.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!!! This review was modified by its author, jon1897, on

After placing my order and verifying that my credit card had been billed for over $400, I inquired with M Star as to when I could expect delivery, as my order was still listed as "pending".
I was informed via form letter that M Star could not fill my order (advertised price via PriceWatch) and that they would refund my credit card within 5 business days.
To date, M Star has not explained why my order was cancelled, and has made no attempt to honor their advertised price. Obviously I will not be recommending them to clients in the future.
After seeing the dearth of negative feedback here and on other review sites, I'll be extremely relieved to get my money back. I'll be sure and check this site to research new dealers from now on.
Buyer Beware!

Shipped Defective Products
Tech Support Staff Member Mike, insulted me
called me a liar. Joe, Customer Care, was very unhelpful. Night Attendant On until 3:00 PM, so no calls can go in. Would not take defective products back for exchange, had to RMA with Manufacturer.. offered me no help.
A real Nightmare. A true example of incompetence.
Would NEVER buy there Again.
I advice the same to anyone.

I am so disappointed with this company. I had ordered something 2nd day and it took 8 days just to ship it. I have called this company so many times to get some info on my packages and there has not been once where my hold time was less than 35 mins. I asked for a tracking number and got a false number. Bottom line, I will never buy from this company again, and I dont recommend anyone else buying from them. This review was modified by its author, benwah, on

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY!
I wish i read this board before making my purchase. The other reviews about their customer service department are dead on !
I bought a hard-drive, DOA, and their online RMA system wouldn't work (big surprise). I then sent an email with their RMA form cut&pasted,(ensuring they got all the info needed), and guess what? NO RESPONSE!
Well, a week later I sent them another email complaining. It's been another week, still haven't heard anything. I Guess i'll be getting the runaround on the phone now...

My Asus A7N8X Deluxe board was DOA. I exhaustively tested the mobo. On-line RMA processing did not work; the website would not accept/process the data. Never got an email acknowledgement. Soooo, I called on my nickle. Took a long time on hold to finally reach the "RMA Dept." Was switched to 4-5 different people including "tech support" in the process. A man who answered the phone said the RMA website had been having problems. I was told by "tech support" I would be charged $25 if they tested the board and it worked. I wonder what the odds are on them claiming it is good? Their RMA response also says I will be changed a restocking fee. For DOA merchandise??? Get real folks.
I chose them because they had a good price and I have ordered from them once previously ok. Now that I have had a problem, I am very leery of their customer service and their new skimpy 15 day RMA/return policy.
++UPDATE++
The company now says that for THEM SENDING ME A DOA MOBO, they will only refund me $118 for a $139 purchase. I hope others can learn from this and do business elsewhere with customer friendly companies. In my opinion, Mstar had their chance to stand behind the product and make things right, and they chose not to. I won't buy from them again.
SECOND UPDATE MAY 21,2003
Company's website is down and "they are not processing orders at this time." Never credited me for the RMA. What a joke of a business. I hope the comments here led to their problems. If you can't get your money from them, here is their DNS info:

I was very disappointed with MStar. Every dealing I have had with other companies in the past 10 years shipped items out same day if ordered prior to shipper leaving in the evening. It took 3 business (5days) to ship my order. I attempted to call MStar voice and was on hold 30 minutes without a human response whatsoever before I hung up.. even the receptionist had an answering service. I also sent an email which to this day STILL hasn't been responded to.
MStar has the worst customer service I have ever seen with a mail order/online computer company. The ONLY thing good about this purchase was the price; however, I will purchase from another retailer next time even if I have to pay more.

I placed the order on wed the 18th. I was only able to contact MStar on the phone twice & called at least 50 times.. they don't have a working voicemail system. I was told the order would go out the 19th & I would have it friday the 21st. I ordered & paid for second day air. I didn't get the package friday & had to track & meet the fedex driver 30miles from my home because of the mistake. I have yet to beable to get a hold of anyone at MStar. I won't order there again.
However, the product was recieved in good working order with an invoice.
