Order #: 75013612
Order Date: 04/05/2007 8:46 PM CT
Estimated Arrival Date: 04/27/2007 12:00 AM CT
They started by telling me they relocated their plant from Mexico to TN.
I don't care they should let people know that up front.
They still are NOT mentioning this if i go and fill out an order like i'm a new buyer!
I still don't have my order and they sent the speakers out the first week to make it a hassle for me to cancel.
Then they start bumping my order arrival week by week.
They had some dittzy blonde (prob the CEO's secret girlfriend) tell me this story about how great they are for bringing jobs from Mexico to my home town.
The arrival date is now 06/01.
That's all they will say! and i will post back if it does not arrive then.
either way it's way to long and there was NO MENTION of backorder or anything whatsoever when i made the purchase and they sent that one piece out and charged my credit card they knew it was going to be forever and are simply con men in my opinion.

I have ordered a unit from Gateway that has been repeatedly delayed. The responses I have received from Customer Service have been totally underwhelming. Having asked for this matter to be escalated, I finally spoke to Angel, Fax MC028. Angel was just as ineffective at answering my questions and refused to connect me with her supervisor, informing me that there was no one who could help me further and that her supervisor was too busy to speak with me.
The impression I have is that Gateway accepts orders without the means to fulfill them. When a customer calls to find out why Gateway has not fulfilled its obligations, Gateway Customer Service is unable to do anything except agree that the order has not been fulfilled and cannot do anything substantive to help.
I certainly will not be purchasing anything else from Gateway until they become a reputable supplier and neither will several of my colleagues. What I will be doing is to publish this complaint so that other purchasers do not suffer the same runaround that I have had to put up with. This review was modified by its author, SDBM, on

I bought NX570X on Feb 14, 2007 and received it on Feb 28, 2007 shipped from China in 3 days. It is a wonderful laptop. I customized with Intel Core 2 Duo T7200(2.00GHz); speed is very impressive. I'm very glad that I chose Gateway NX570X over Dell Insprion 1505e (white & silver) and HP Pavilion dv6000t (shiny).

I have had poor customer service in the past with Gateway. Switched to Dell for a while then back to Gateway. While niether company does a good Gateway has sunk to new lows as this deal is a nightmare. Lots of sorrys but no action. Three weeks in and still trying to resolve issue. I finally told the rep I was sending the boxes back and his reply was 'I dont blame you.'So very frustrating but they dont seem to care.

I DO NOT OWN a gateway, but am doing a great deal of comparative shopping before purchasing a gateway for my mother.
It was either here or on another site where someone had typed that Gateway would not honor its warranty because he purchased his computer from a retail store. I called Gateway to find out if this is true.
I liked that I had not been on hold for a long time and that I could actually understand the person with whom I was speaking. However, the sales person confirmed what this person had typed in his review and backed it up with the most rediculous analogy. " As far as Gateway is concerned, if you do not buy directly from us, it is not a Gateway. If you buy a used Toyota at a Honda dealership, Toyota will not honor the warranty." I was about to say.. "I bought an IBM years ago from Radio Shack and IBM honored the warranty." Instead I made a better choice. I just said thank you and goodbye!
Just thought I would warn anyone thinking of buying from this company. You either spend a whole lot of extra money and buy directly from them, or they will gyp you out of a year's warranty!
Please someone lead me to a computer company with at least decent customer service! :( This review was modified by its author, CompDied, on

I ordered gateways 24" HD Monitor on 19 Dec 06. I did this via Gateways live chat. Once this was done during the chat I saw what the billing breakdown was going to be $697.00 for the monitor, $55.00 for shipping & $65.00 for tax. Even though I wasn't happy about being charged tax(New Egg never charges tax) I was OK with it. When I recieved my tracking # from Gateway I saw that my monitor was being shipped from Tenn, via FedEx ground. $55.00 for a ground shipment is definitely excessive. However I was willing to let that pass as well. Gateway, however dropped the ball when they usesd FedEx's reidential service. I specifically made a point to the online Rep that I was shipping this monitor to my job. The whole idea was to have the monitor here by Christmas. After contacting FedEx to find out when could I expect the monitor to arrive, I was told that due to the fact that the monitor was shipped via their residential service they couldn't contact their driver. Not good. In addition, FedEx says that I have to get in contact with Gateway, as they're the shipper to change the destination of the package. I contact Gateway & explain my situation, they in fact do contact FedEx & get the address changed to a Sat delivery, however when i pointed out that it woudn't have been necessary had they shipped the monitor 3 day air which is what I thought they had done given the shipping charge. Gateway says they did nothing wrong. "The shipping charge is the shipping charge" to quote the Gateway rep. Even after I told him that I've shipped heavier boxes & wasn't charged what Gateway charged. All I wanted was a reduction of the price but Gateway wasn't having it. I'm very disatisfied OK, I received my Monitor & it worked. However, I won't be doing any more business with Gateway ,period. This review was modified by its author, jtm55, on

on 11/25/06 i went to gateways website and and saw they had a refurbished tablet laptop the m285 for 850. the website clearly says the m285 is for 850 and there was a button underneath it that said buy now. after i clicked buy now,the website took down my information and sent me an email invoice stating that i had purchased the m285 tablet laptop for 850+tax+shipping for a grand total of 968.68. i called customer service to make sure everything was OK. on Monday 11/27/06 i received another email from gateway,it was a different invoice,on this invoice,my laptop had jumped from 850 to 900 and instead of the model i ordered it said i was getting an inferior model (m280). the model i originally ordered had a core dual processor and the one they were going to ship me had an m processor. so on Monday 11/27/06 i spent 3 breaks at work calling customer service and was told to fax in my two email invoices and attach the header "attention Chris Marchand and Melinda" to resolve my issue. after i emailed it Tuesday morning 11/28/06,i waited about 3 hours and called them back. when i called them back, they said they had no idea who Chris marchand was and they have no fax. i asked the rep what i can do then that's when he transfer me to some Lady's line. she didn't pick up so i left a message detailing my problem and told her to call me back (she never called me back). the next day Wednesday 11/29/06,i called again and this time i got some one that knew who Chris marchand was and said she would ask him about my issue, after waiting for 15 min. she came back and said...the 850 price tag i saw LISTED on THEIR web site was an ESTIMATED PRICE! When GATEWAY start listing ESTIMATED PRICES on their web site instead of ACTUAL PRICES?? they waited 3 days to tell me that the price Gateway HAD LISTED ON THEIR WED SITE WAS JUST AN ESTIMATE AND NOT ACTUAL PRICE!!! If this is not false advertising i don't know what is!! They sold me a tablet for 850,sent me an invoice saying i got it for 850 and then RAISED THE PRICE 3 DAYS LATER. I have both copy of the invoice and would gladly fax it to anybody that wishes to see it. later that day i called to cancel my order and the smug customer rep said that their tablets sell fast and the price can change hourly. it sounds like he is saying my business is not important because some one else will buy the tablet i returned and that gateway can change their prices when ever they want..EVEN AFTER YOU HAVE BOUGHT IT.

Gateway Computer purchased in Circuit City store. 2nd hard drive impossible to add due to short cables. Tech support person stated "what do you want me to do about it" and disconnected the line. Called back and spoke with a "customer relations" manager who was of no help. Drive bay would not come out of case when following instructions. Reason was there is an undocumented screw in the bottom of the case that he was unaware of and, apparently, so was the manual writers. If I hadn't spent the last three days setting up the main drive I would have returned it in a heartbeat. There is no excuse for the extremely poor customer service, undocumented procedures and poor and at best shabby planning by who ever designed the mainframe. Don't even think of buying a Gateway computer!!

Here is the deal. I didn't even actually order it. I did order a 21" monitor from them, but when I inquired about a tablet, suddenly a few days later, it was being shipped as well. Since my wife had played with one in Bestbuy, we decided at the last moment to keep it anyhow. (STUPID, STUPID, STUIPD)Then we discovered that very same night the pen function didn't even work. Now I have to pay a 15% restock fee to return the piece of crap! Did I mention the blasted thing didn't want to shut down as well?
Tech support is now a toll number unless you pay almost $200.00 more for their Priority service. I now see that the "FAMOUS" spotted box is actually from the "Bull-Shite" exploding from their mouths on a daily basis!
When they first started out, I picked up a Gateway computer. Back then they had excellent support. Beware people. Whatever you do, no matter how decent the deal seems. DO NOT buy from this company! We talked ourselves into it and now we are paying the price. This review was modified by its author, Silverpenguin, on

Gateway sent a computer they knew was dead that had a dangerous short. Gateway's policy not to refurbish "refurbished computers" until they have been resold is dishonest and proved dangerous.
This is a warning about Gateway products at Tiger Direct. I recently purchased a Gateway 836GM desktop from Tiger Direct. The machine was dead on arrival. Tiger Direct refused to service the computer saying that only Gateway will do that. After hemming for a week, Gateway eventually agreed to service the computer. A Gateway rep even told me that the machine had been returned to Gateway, determined to be non-functioning, and sent to Tiger Direct without anything having been fixed. The rep said this is what they do with their "refurbished" products. Gateway refurbished computers are not refurbished until after they are again sold to a customer. You will most likely be purchasing a dead machine if you get a refurbished Gateway from Tiger Direct. If this is not bad enough, the problem in the machine they sent me was significant enough that a portion of metal case was melted. I consider this willing endangerment of their customer. They knew that the motherboard had a short that cause melting damage on the computer for the original owner and would not fix it until the computer was purchased via Tiger Direct. Had I not been very careful, this could have caused a fire. The partnership between Gateway and TigerDirect is used to sell dead and potentially dangerous machines to consumers. They tell the consumers that the products are refurbished, but what they mean is that they are grudgingly willing to refurbish the machine AFTER you purchase it. It took nearly a month after these companies had my money to get a computer that could just boot up.

Absoutely horrible treatment from Gateway.
Let me preface by saying I USED TO BE a loyal Gateway customer. I ordered from them 3.5 years ago and that system has served me well. It was built so sturdily that it crashed from my desk to the floor and plugged back in and worked! So I expected good service/product again.
I ordered Gateway's best system. I ordered it with the best components. I knew that there were smaller companies with faster CPUs, but they would cost more. But this was fast enough and Gateway gave me a great price and a tetrabyte of hardrive as a free upgrade. So I was excited to get my order. Not only that but I am a professional author and I needed the computer as my current is completely full and I am doing photo editing on a book which requires a Wacom tablet that I can't install until I get a bigger hardrive. I placed the order on Dec. 28 and have recieved nothing but a worthless cable since.
I would never have known my system wasn't going to ship had I not checked for myself. Everytime I would check my order it would be delayed. Finally, well after a month they called to say it would be Feb. 28th! I said, NO WAY. At this time all the CPUs they were offering were outdated already and I said that if the newer processors were shipping with the newest systems for the same price I had paid that's what I should get. They upgraded me to the top of the line processor (for an added fee!) and promised a delivery by feb 13th or so. I got a call saying it wouldn't be until Feb. 15th. Then nothing. I checked online and it said my order had AGAIN been delayed until the 21st. I wrote and said if there was ONE MORE DELAY I would cancel and never order from them again. And they wrote back and said my order was unfortunately delayed AGAIN until the 28th. Should anybody have to wait 2 months for a computer order? I've read other people reviewing sites complaining about ten day delays!
Gateway USED to be a good company. They sold out and now they have the worst customer service I've ever encountered. I will never order from them and I used to be a loyal customer. GETAWAY from GATEWAY.
I have since placed an order with Digital Storm. I sure hope they are better. I will be reviewing them as soon as I get my system.

1. There's a 15 day return policy and 15% restocking fee. Upon opening carton, they make sure this is the first thing you see in the buyer's agreement.
2. Made and assembled in Mexico and China.
3. Out-sourced and overseas tech support. "Hello my name is Jamaji." They have support in the states too but it's all entry level.
4. Non toll free support # (long distance domestic call).
update: Gateway reinstated a toll free number for tech support. In my experience there's no answer during peak hours.
5. I wonder if they out-source customer service as well. One minute they're selling Ginsu knives the next listening to pissed off customers.
I would just go buy a system in a B.M store. At least you have 30 days to look it over with no restocking or shipping fees. I can't imagine worse service or support from Hewlett Packard or other store brands.
good luck,
p.s.
If you do buy a Gateway system I would advise that you purchase the onsite warranty. Otherwise, you'll have to ship it back for service (I'm on my third motherboard). Also, in my experience, they require you to trouble shoot the computer before sending out a tech with replacement parts. This could involve anything from unplugging the power cord to removing all components from the motherboard. In my experience, the tech just installs the part while the user continues to trouble shoot with Gateway tech support if required.
Bottom line.. There's a 15 day and 15% restocking fee stipulated in their insane buyer's agreement. The computer is imported. Tech support is sub-contracted and customer service doesn't seem to go much beyond other than directing your phone call. If you haven't purchased a Gateway since the 90's expect a whole different experience in 2006.

Horrible customer service and horrible computer part! Laptop was cracked on the side 9 months after I bought it. Sent it in for repaired and it took them 1 month to get it back to me with another problem. The keyboard was broken!!! Sent it back in and received it back within 1 week with a key missing from the keyboard! Went through a total of apprx 15-20 hours with customer services and tech supports. Tech support can't really help you since they ARE NOT the ones that fix your computer! They can only PROMISE, but their PROMISES are not valid and should not be taken seriously! Gateway should be investigated for doing bussiness like this!

Ordered brand new M280E tablet laptop PC, because required @ school. Took a month to get the laptop. A small button on side would not retract. Gateway Tech Support said would have to send me a whole new laptop; promised delivery by Nov. 4. Nov. 7 new laptop had not arrived; called Gateway; Gateway promised delivery by Nov. 23. Didn't arrive; called Gateway; Gateway promised delivery Dec. 2. Didn't arrive; called Gateway, tech said call every day. Dec. 4 tech from another company was servicing my desktop unit (not a Gateway); saw the laptop & fixed it in 2 min. Called Gateway 12/5 to cancel replacement laptop; Gateway refused to extend warranty or pay other company's tech. Gateway did not apologize for the 2 mo. delay in getting me a functioning laptop, nor offer anything for my trouble.
