I lied with the purchase date - it was Sept. 4th 2006 (not a drop-down option). However, I also purchased an extended warranty for 2 years, so it's still in force.

Last May it started spontaneously rebooting on occasion. I assumed it was software, and in June it got bad enough that I felt I must do something about it. In order to eliminate the possibility it was hardware (before I painfully started from scratch with the software) I asked them for a hardware diagnostic - especially a memory diagnostic since that was the error report. They never provided one even though I asked for it repeatedly over the period from then to last month (September). They questioned my extended warranty repeatedly (I even provided the number) and asked me to do a hard drive test (built in to their software). Passed. Then they said to restore to factory conditions. By this time I had found that by disabling external memory the problem became much less frequent, but they ignored that and insisted on the factory restore.

I did it, installed only my anti-virus (AVG) and firewall (Zone alarm) programs and the problem still occurred (on an anti-virus sweep - one never finished).

I was told they "escalated" the problem and from that point on there was no useful contact with them - each time I was told it had been escalated and they could do nothing - not even put me in touch with the escalation team. After further complaint the escalated it again, but still no contact from them. I tried a letter to headquarters and never got a reply.

A selection of emails in the exchange with their customer support people is at http://www.rgcle.com/Gateway/

I finally bought an HP desktop and have had NO trouble after loading all the operational software I had on the Gateway and then some.

My experience leads me to the conclusion that I should never buy Gateway again.

In regard to the restriction of transactions occurring within one year, i consider the exchange of emails with Gateway tech support as meeting that requirement.

Trying to resolve an issue using the online chat session is awful, and the online agents are clearly trying to push all support to telephone support at $2.95/minute (and the charge begins even before they answer the telephone!!!).

One agent did send me a useful link,to the beep code diagnostics. That indicated bad memory, and we pulled the defective chip and it booted fine. I then ordered new memory from Gateway based upon Gateway's recommendation.

The computer failed same way next day, and when I engaged another chat session, the agent (Morgan_badge???) only said to send it in for repairs for $387.95 plus tax.

When I asked another question about the diagnostic message, the agent terminated the session immediately.

THIS IS NOT THE GATEWAY THAT EXISTED IN 1999. THE NEW ACER MANAGEMENT IS TRYING TO MILK EVERY LAST CENT FROM FORMER CUSTOMERS. IT IS DECEPTIVE BUSINESS AND COASTING UPON THE REPUTATION OF THE FORMER, AND ORIGINAL, COMPANY!

My personal feeling is, "DON'T BUY GATEWAY"!!! I certainly won't buy anything more from them.

Order #: 75013612
Order Date: 04/05/2007 8:46 PM CT
Estimated Arrival Date: 04/27/2007 12:00 AM CT

They started by telling me they relocated their plant from Mexico to TN.

I don't care they should let people know that up front.

They still are NOT mentioning this if i go and fill out an order like i'm a new buyer!

I still don't have my order and they sent the speakers out the first week to make it a hassle for me to cancel.

Then they start bumping my order arrival week by week.

They had some dittzy blonde (prob the CEO's secret girlfriend) tell me this story about how great they are for bringing jobs from Mexico to my home town.

The arrival date is now 06/01.

That's all they will say! and i will post back if it does not arrive then.

either way it's way to long and there was NO MENTION of backorder or anything whatsoever when i made the purchase and they sent that one piece out and charged my credit card they knew it was going to be forever and are simply con men in my opinion.

I have ordered a unit from Gateway that has been repeatedly delayed. The responses I have received from Customer Service have been totally underwhelming. Having asked for this matter to be escalated, I finally spoke to Angel, Fax MC028. Angel was just as ineffective at answering my questions and refused to connect me with her supervisor, informing me that there was no one who could help me further and that her supervisor was too busy to speak with me.

The impression I have is that Gateway accepts orders without the means to fulfill them. When a customer calls to find out why Gateway has not fulfilled its obligations, Gateway Customer Service is unable to do anything except agree that the order has not been fulfilled and cannot do anything substantive to help.

I certainly will not be purchasing anything else from Gateway until they become a reputable supplier and neither will several of my colleagues. What I will be doing is to publish this complaint so that other purchasers do not suffer the same runaround that I have had to put up with.

I bought NX570X on Feb 14, 2007 and received it on Feb 28, 2007 shipped from China in 3 days. It is a wonderful laptop. I customized with Intel Core 2 Duo T7200(2.00GHz); speed is very impressive. I'm very glad that I chose Gateway NX570X over Dell Insprion 1505e (white & silver) and HP Pavilion dv6000t (shiny).

on 11/25/06 i went to gateways website and and saw they had a refurbished tablet laptop the m285 for 850. the website clearly says the m285 is for 850 and there was a button underneath it that said buy now. after i clicked buy now,the website took down my information and sent me an email invoice stating that i had purchased the m285 tablet laptop for 850+tax+shipping for a grand total of 968.68. i called customer service to make sure everything was OK. on Monday 11/27/06 i received another email from gateway,it was a different invoice,on this invoice,my laptop had jumped from 850 to 900 and instead of the model i ordered it said i was getting an inferior model (m280). the model i originally ordered had a core dual processor and the one they were going to ship me had an m processor. so on Monday 11/27/06 i spent 3 breaks at work calling customer service and was told to fax in my two email invoices and attach the header "attention Chris Marchand and Melinda" to resolve my issue. after i emailed it Tuesday morning 11/28/06,i waited about 3 hours and called them back. when i called them back, they said they had no idea who Chris marchand was and they have no fax. i asked the rep what i can do then that's when he transfer me to some Lady's line. she didn't pick up so i left a message detailing my problem and told her to call me back (she never called me back). the next day Wednesday 11/29/06,i called again and this time i got some one that knew who Chris marchand was and said she would ask him about my issue, after waiting for 15 min. she came back and said...the 850 price tag i saw LISTED on THEIR web site was an ESTIMATED PRICE! When GATEWAY start listing ESTIMATED PRICES on their web site instead of ACTUAL PRICES?? they waited 3 days to tell me that the price Gateway HAD LISTED ON THEIR WED SITE WAS JUST AN ESTIMATE AND NOT ACTUAL PRICE!!! If this is not false advertising i don't know what is!! They sold me a tablet for 850,sent me an invoice saying i got it for 850 and then RAISED THE PRICE 3 DAYS LATER. I have both copy of the invoice and would gladly fax it to anybody that wishes to see it. later that day i called to cancel my order and the smug customer rep said that their tablets sell fast and the price can change hourly. it sounds like he is saying my business is not important because some one else will buy the tablet i returned and that gateway can change their prices when ever they want..EVEN AFTER YOU HAVE BOUGHT IT.

Gateway sent a computer they knew was dead that had a dangerous short. Gateway's policy not to refurbish "refurbished computers" until they have been resold is dishonest and proved dangerous.

This is a warning about Gateway products at Tiger Direct. I recently purchased a Gateway 836GM desktop from Tiger Direct. The machine was dead on arrival. Tiger Direct refused to service the computer saying that only Gateway will do that. After hemming for a week, Gateway eventually agreed to service the computer. A Gateway rep even told me that the machine had been returned to Gateway, determined to be non-functioning, and sent to Tiger Direct without anything having been fixed. The rep said this is what they do with their "refurbished" products. Gateway refurbished computers are not refurbished until after they are again sold to a customer. You will most likely be purchasing a dead machine if you get a refurbished Gateway from Tiger Direct. If this is not bad enough, the problem in the machine they sent me was significant enough that a portion of metal case was melted. I consider this willing endangerment of their customer. They knew that the motherboard had a short that cause melting damage on the computer for the original owner and would not fix it until the computer was purchased via Tiger Direct. Had I not been very careful, this could have caused a fire. The partnership between Gateway and TigerDirect is used to sell dead and potentially dangerous machines to consumers. They tell the consumers that the products are refurbished, but what they mean is that they are grudgingly willing to refurbish the machine AFTER you purchase it. It took nearly a month after these companies had my money to get a computer that could just boot up.

Absoutely horrible treatment from Gateway.

Let me preface by saying I USED TO BE a loyal Gateway customer. I ordered from them 3.5 years ago and that system has served me well. It was built so sturdily that it crashed from my desk to the floor and plugged back in and worked! So I expected good service/product again.

I ordered Gateway's best system. I ordered it with the best components. I knew that there were smaller companies with faster CPUs, but they would cost more. But this was fast enough and Gateway gave me a great price and a tetrabyte of hardrive as a free upgrade. So I was excited to get my order. Not only that but I am a professional author and I needed the computer as my current is completely full and I am doing photo editing on a book which requires a Wacom tablet that I can't install until I get a bigger hardrive. I placed the order on Dec. 28 and have recieved nothing but a worthless cable since.

I would never have known my system wasn't going to ship had I not checked for myself. Everytime I would check my order it would be delayed. Finally, well after a month they called to say it would be Feb. 28th! I said, NO WAY. At this time all the CPUs they were offering were outdated already and I said that if the newer processors were shipping with the newest systems for the same price I had paid that's what I should get. They upgraded me to the top of the line processor (for an added fee!) and promised a delivery by feb 13th or so. I got a call saying it wouldn't be until Feb. 15th. Then nothing. I checked online and it said my order had AGAIN been delayed until the 21st. I wrote and said if there was ONE MORE DELAY I would cancel and never order from them again. And they wrote back and said my order was unfortunately delayed AGAIN until the 28th. Should anybody have to wait 2 months for a computer order? I've read other people reviewing sites complaining about ten day delays!

Gateway USED to be a good company. They sold out and now they have the worst customer service I've ever encountered. I will never order from them and I used to be a loyal customer. GETAWAY from GATEWAY.

I have since placed an order with Digital Storm. I sure hope they are better. I will be reviewing them as soon as I get my system.

I purchased a convertable notebook computer from Gateway, along with a 3 year extended warranty. After sevral months of use the latch cracked, and the notebook would not close properly. Other stress caracks were beginning to form where the cover was screwed on, as well. It had never been off the table where I use it. I called Gateway, where the tech that I spoke to stated that it would be covered under warranty. I was charged $44 to send it back to them, and to cover shipping costs. Three days later a tech called to tell me that it was considered abuse, and that it would cost $170 to repair the latch. I told him this was unacceptable, as it was clearly a bad part. I was informed that I would have to pay the charge or the unit would not be fixed. I told them to return the unit. I tried to later call the service center to discuss this with a supervisor. I was informed that there was no mthod for the consumer to contact the repair center, and that they were only avalable through internal email. I sent several emails to Gateway customer service, and the responses I received were "canned", and it was quite clear that no one ever read the emails. Gateway has lost a customer forever, here.

I placed an order for 10 1GB Simpletech DDR2 memory at gateway.com on 06/08. They finally shipped them out on 07/21 (without any notice of delay). I received them today and they shipped me 512MB DDR2 modules. They changed my order without my permission to a lower capacity memory but still charged me the same amount as 1GB memory. Basically, I feel this was a "bait and switch" done on me.

I called Gateway and was talking to a rep with just 30 second hold time (pretty good compared to Dell). They issued an RMA, but I never actually got any apology. They said they will refund the entire amount back to my CC.

I've had great buying experience with Gateway in the past but I don't tolerate stunts like this pulled on me... so I will keep my distance from Gateway for a while.

UPDATE: After I left the review above, I proceeded with RMA and all the return process that is involved. I did everything exactly as they instructed me and guess what happened, I received a refund of $71.18 on 08/17, instead of getting $711.72! When I first saw this I was just furious! I called them and after lengthy process of them confirming everything, they issued another refund. The CSR was very nice, but overall, it has been a horrible experience with Gateway. I doubt that I will ever do business again with gateway.

First they pull a BAIT & SWITCH on me, second, they screw me over with a refund "error"... What a waste of time! Not to mention, I have never once received an apology for either of these BIG MISTAKES! I think an experience like this is enough to scare a customer away!

This is my 2nd Gateway desktop. I got my last one in 1998, and it was just now time to upgrade. Customer service has always been very helpful to me for 7 years. Maybe I was just lucky or maybe everyone on this site just likes to complain. Either way I'm very happy with Gateway, and in a few years I will be ordering my next computer from them as well.

We placed an order on a sale that was listed on this site. We ordered the same day the link was posted. The put a charge (hold)on our CC and sent 4 emails saying that our order would be delivered on or before Dec 17th. 4 days after our order, they called and said they wouldn't honor the sale. They claimed they were out of stock. When we first spoke with them, they were happy to take our order and help us in any way. After they called to cancel, the rep was so rude and unfeeling. I'd never order from this company again. I've never had service like that in my life

I will never buy from Gateway again. I bought a 450xl laptop from them in July 2003. Since then it has had three hard drives die. That wasn't so bad, because they always sent out replacements. The problem now is that the video card died and they can't/won't fix it. It has been sent in for repair three times (and I had to pay for shipping for all but the last one) only to come back unfixed. I've talked to four different tech support representatives who put in orders for a replacement chassis. I never hear back from them and when I call back I find that they never really ordered it, or that the order was mysteriously canceled. It's not that the replacement wasn't approved, the last tech I talked to said that it would show up differently if that was the case. The representative I talked to (or someone else) deliberately canceled the order without giving a reason or contacting me. I have written and mailed a letter to Gateway's CEO Wayne Inouye, and have heard nothing after two weeks. I know they got the letter because I paid extra for delivery confirmation when sending it. I guess my next step is contacting the New York State Attorney General's office if I don't hear anything soon.

I ordered an X800XT. My initial scheduled date for arrival was July 29th. I got a call on the 30th informing me that it was delayed. The new arrival date was set for June 17th. The date rolled by, and on the 18th, my arrival date was updated to: Not Available. On the 20th, I got an e-mail informing me my ordered was canceled.

Waiting for almost 2 months for a video card is extremely frustrating, and the whole experience was quite miserable.
