I was looking for a good deal on a cable modem. I found the 3Com Office Connect listed for a minimum of 59$ on a retailer at pricewatch. However, the retailer did not have a good rating so I went on over to uBid. Saw the same modem up for grabs straight from the uBid wearhouse. I won the auction for 29$ on April 19th and the order comes on April 25 (1 day later than expected... UPS screw up), and everything is working fine. Great experience.
However, the shipping rate is highly inflated and the packaging was very poor (what the hell do they do with the overpriced shipping charges)... it was just plastic surrounding the box... lucky for me the box was sturdy.. could imagine the damage caused on shipping more fragiley packed hardware.
I really don't know about the list of unhappy users, but my experience was a good one. *Might* order from again.

Won an HP laptop late on a Thursday night. Was pleasantly surprised to receive it from Fed Ex on Saturday morning (regular shipping). Having purchased items from them previously, I didn't expect it to be shipped for a few days (as stated on their website).
My only complaint is that the laptop shipped with 64 bit Windows Vista, rather than the 32 bit version. I pretty much expected this, as I've not seen a laptop with 4GB of RAM come with 32 bit Vista. Nearly all of the laptops up for auction also indicated they came with the 32 bit Vista, but I'm pretty sure they don't. My concern was that some of my software/hardware wouldn't run on 64 bit Vista, but this has not been the case.
Overall, I would say I'm very satisfied (again) in dealing with UBID. While I don't doubt that they may have issues, many of the complaints lodged against them are due to the customer's ignorance or their unrealistic expectations. I have to laugh at people that complain about shipping charges, shipping times, etc. from ANY vendor when they are clearly stated. People need to open their eyes sometimes and then make their purchasing decisions. If you don't like the terms associated with an item, then DON'T buy it.
Also, I don't expect the same level of customer service when dealing with an internet seller that sells things cheaper than retail. They deal with lower profit margins and must make it up through volume. If you want top notch service and live sales help, then go to a local store.

I have been buying from them for 12 years, mainly because they deal with the manufacturers and the deals are truely awesome!

I WAS SKEPTICAL!!! But after much research, on a Saturday evening, I bid on and won a Panasonic DMR-ES46VS DVD Recorder / VHS Combo @ $139. I received an email confirmation the same evening. Shipping confirmation was received just after mindnite Sunday(18 hrs later)-- pretty efficient, especially considering it was a weekend. Received the product within the week via ground as stated (original manufacture's box, accessories and warranty) in excellent condition - was double boxed. Shipping charge was clearly stated at auction ($27) and charged as quoted = total $166. Saved so much bought 2 year extended replacement warranty to start after the manufacturer's 90 days ($39). Total cost $205 for highly rated DVR good for replacement through mid 2009 that's running $260-400+ today. Registered product w/ Panasonic and it works like a charm. I will buy from UBid again without hesitation.

Won an auction (1 out of 8) for a refurbished Samsung 2GB MP-3 player @ $62 vs. a higher "Buy It Now" price. Everything worked as expected; tracking # info @ UBid connected to FedEx and item was delivered as tracking described. And the "free shipping" was free. I have made several purchases over the years with Ubid and I have never had problem one.

I am primarily writing this review in light of the staggering amount of negative reviews that ubid has received. I ordered a computer from them last year, on a friend's recommendation, and I was completely satisfied with the transaction from start to finish. The only hang up was that my order was put on hold at first, only because my shipping address wasn't the same as the billing address on my credit card. When I called, the woman I dealt with was very nice and professional, and even upgraded my shipping for no charge. I still own the computer that I purchased from them and have no regrets whatsoever. All I can say to those who are complaining about shipping charges is, read before you buy, and if the shipping is more than you are willing to spend, DON'T BUY IT! Also, the item I purchased was one that was sold by and shipped from ubid's own warehouse. I cannot vouch for any companies selling through ubid. Also, as far as their auctions being phony, I know nothing of this, as the item I bought was their equivalent of a "buy it now" so I did not have to place a bid, so to speak. In closing, I wouldn't hesitate to do business with them again, assuming that the terms of sale seemed satisfactory.

I purchased a refurbished Samsung HT-TQ85,Five 5.1 Channel Home Theater Audio System. $319 with $50 dollars shipping. It took ten days to get here. It was packaged in the original factory box. The unit works perfectly with only a small 1/8" scratch on the silver faceplate. After reading the reviews I was worried, but all seems well. Waiting a week for a tracking number was the only downside on this purchase.

My most recent purchase from Ubid was a new IBM laptop. The price was fair, the unit shipped quickly and arrived well-packed, the inner box had IBM seals intact.
This is the fourth computer I have purchased from Ubid. I have purchased items for many years now, going back to 1998 or so. Over the years I have had *one* actual problem with an order, when I was given incorrect instructions for returning it (even so, it was eventually resolved to my satisfaction after a couple of weeks of emails). One item, I believed was refurb'ed not new (a ladies shaver), but everything else has been as advertised, shipped quickly, without billing errors or problems. It seems other people have had some problems with this company ... while they may not be the best in terms of services, if you are careful in choosing your purchases, you can get very good deals here.
I am happy with my experiences with Ubid.

Giving my 2nd VERY POSITIVE review here for Ubid. In my last review with an order date of 3-5-06, I praised Ubid because I had received the (8)speakers that I had ordered in unopened, new condition with no apparent defects. I also said that I was so impressed that I was going to order more speakers.
I did so and my second batch came in right on time as did my first order. They are also in original factory boxes and apparently brand-new in-box from inspection.
I received them in one very large box that looked like it had gotten a few kicks from a mule before it was sent. None of the interior boxes containing the speakers were the slightest bit damaged but I have to say that until I opened the box and inspected the contents, I was worried. Had this been delicate equipment such as computer equipment, home audio seperates, etc., it would most likely have been DOA.
I'm still giving Ubid a good score simply because I got what I ordered the 2nd time in a row and in a timely basis. Their shipping cost are still past ridiculous and with the way I received my package, I am glad that I did not order any delicate electronic equipment.
Update: I received all speakers promptly and in perfect condition. When I got them I also made a another of 4 more of the same speakers from Ubid and I also received them in perfect condition as well. I installed all 12 speakers in my place of business and the place sounds better or easily as good as any restaurant in town. This review was modified by its author, robd1, on

I've had my camera, a Casio 750, about three weeks now, and I couldn't be happier. The unit was reconditioned, and well packaged. It was shipped very fast. The camera looks like brand new, and the savings was amazing. I would not hesitate to buy from here again. I think they would be wise to set up a feedback system on their site, since without one, most people will not to go to an outside site to to comment unless there is a problem. The many satisfied customers probably won't bother.
It is important to note that my purchase was directly from ubid, and not from an affiliate or individual through their site.

Just purchased my second laptop from UBID. Laptop arrived complete with all discs and documentation. It was a refurb and yes the warranty was half what a new warranty is, but the price was also $500-$1000 less than new. I call that a bargain. Computer works great, a couple of minor blems on the case that have to be looked for to notice. I was really shocked to see some of the user ratings given to UBID. I have been extremely satisfied with their service and merchandise. I also enjoy the bidding process, you really have to be on your toes in the closing minutes of an auction. The refresh button is a necessity when the bidding gets fast and furious... Will use UBID again as the need arises. Kenny Parks

I ordered a refurbished Viewsonic Tablet PC with I am very pleased. The delivery was quicker than advertised and the product appeared to be new, except in plain brown boxes. I am very pleased with their product and service. I would recommend then without reservation. This review was modified by its author, shopnascar, on

Bought an Antec 92mm to replace the fan in my Enermax power supply for 7.99+2.49 shipping = 10.48 It was the cheapest I could get on the net at the time. They updated me frequently with emails and even provided an UPS tracking number. The fan arrived two days after I placed the order and it was packaged in an oversized boxed compared to the fan with a lot of paper for cushion. Take note that I bought this fan from their Superstore and did not bid on any of their auctions. Maybe that's why their rating is low here because of the auctions. Anyway I'd buy from their store again with caution of course. This review was modified by its author, onlyonezen, on
