I have read all the comments, but as i previously bought from Abes of Maine, i thought i would give it a go.
I got the camera (panasone fz50) at a good price, 2 days after i place the order (even though they said it could take up to a week) in perfect condition.
I had great customer service, no issues at all, would recomend.

3/16/07 I call Abes Of Maine, attracted by their low price listing and free shipping, to purchase a Sony PD-170 Camcorder. I spoke to Ted, who told me the camera was available and in stock and then proceeds to ask me if I wished to purchase a lens filter. I replied no. Then he asks if I would like to purchase other items like batteries, etc. I said no to all except the extended warranty from MACK, which I requested. He told me the price for the four year warranty was $400.00. I agreed to purchase it. He then asked me if I wanted the "Professional" extended warranty for an additonal $100.00. I asked what the difference was and he said that the "Professional" warranty included free annual cleanings. I declined. He then asked me if I wanted to upgrade to UPS shipping for $49.00 I declined. He told me that regular shipping was not safe and that it wouldn't be able to be tracked. Then asked me if I would be interested in it for $35.00. I told him if he could come down a little more, I might consider it. He said he could do it for $30.00 and I agreed. I felt as if I had better make sure I could get a tracking number.
Finally the order was placed and I was given an order number.
I was somewhat suspicious of the MACK warranty price that Ted quoted me, and decided to do a little investigating. I called "Armatos" and spoke to John who told me he could sell me the MACK warranty for the PD-170 for $200.00. I also called MACK and was told by a rep there that I could only buy the warranty from an authorized seller, but that there was NO DIFFERENCE between the MACK warranty from one dealer or the next. The only difference is the price at which they sell it to you for. I also found that the cleanings are a part of the warranty and are not exclusive to a so-called "Professional" warranty. It was still less than 2 hours since I had placed the order and I knew it wasn't going out until the following Monday, so I decided to call back Ted at Abes of Maine, and cancel the MACK warranty. Ted asked me why I wanted to cancel the warranty and I told him that I could get it for $200.00. He then told me that the MACK warranty I was offered by "Armatos" was not the same. In his words, I was not comparing "apples to apples". I told him I wanted to cancel the warranty anyway. He informed me that he cannot cancel the MACK warranty because it was already part of the order. I then asked him to cancel the order. His response was that he could not cancel the order (he sounded quite irate) He told me there were 300 boxes being sent out today he couldn't cancel mine. I would have to wait until the package arrived and then call him for a return number. He offered to upgrade my warranty to the "Professional" warranty, which included the free annual cleanings. I refused and again asked to cancel the order. He said he couldn't cancel it but would take $50.00 off the price of the warranty. I refused and told him I wished to cancel the order. During the conversation, Ted seemed quite angry and complained that he had already spent 13 minutes with me on the phone as well as having spent 30 minutes previously when I called to order the camera. He told me I would have to wait until the camera arrived and then call to get a return authorization number.
I sent Ted and Abes of Maine an e mail that
confirmed my wish to cancel my order and questioned why the order had to be shipped out when I just ordered it less than 2 hours earlier.
I received no response. Having no response from "Abes of Maine", I had no choice but to wait until the shipment went out. I got the tracking number from UPS and refused shipment . I called my credit card company to dispute the charge, immediately. I was told that I would have to wait for 10 days. The charge has not been removed by "Abes of Maine" even though I tracked the shipment by UPS to have been returned to them on 3/21/07, over a month ago.
What kind of a company does not rescind a charge for an order that was canceled, refused and returned to them? I wish I had read some of these reviews BEFORE I had placed my order and had listened to those who said that most if not all of the positive reviews that appear are actually written by people who are paid by these companies. By the way, I ordered the same camera from B & H and got it for a couple of hundred less. The MACK warranty was only $150.00. It includes free annual cleanings. I will update this upon the results of my credit card dispute. I would hope SOMEBODY at "Abes of Maine" would do the right thing. If they can't get back to me, they should at least rescind a charge for a product that was returned to them, especially when it was requested that the product not be sent to begin with.

We have now received extremely satisfactory resolution to our issue with Abes of Maine. Despite some delays, we can now say that ABes of Maine responded to our complaint with professionalism and care. Unfortunately we can not change our username, but rest assure it no longer reflects our attitude towards Abes of Maine. Their response to our issue has shown their commitment to excellent customer service and selling quality products at the best prices. We will provide them with more business in the future and sincerely look forward to working with them again. This review was modified by its author, ConsumerWarning, on

When I read some of the reviews I was worried about my purchase, and I thought about cancelling the order. But I took the chance, and I didn't have any problems. I bought a digital camera Sony DSC-T50. The price was great. I'm vey happy with it. The only thing that bothered me was the fact they called me to confirm the order and tried to sell me more stuff. Anyway, after the confirmation call I got my camera the next day. Free shipment.
I would do business again.

I phone ordered a Sony DSC T100 camera from Abes of Main on 03/21/07. Their website said the camera comes with US warranty. The agent also confirmed it. When I received the camera on time six days later, I found it is a gray market camera with no US warranty. After a couple of phone calls to their customer service they let me return it for an exchange at their cost. I eventually received the right camera on 04/12/07, more than three weeks after I first ordered it! They probably count on most customers not noticing they have been sold a gray market product until it is too late for them to do anything about it. It is definitely not worth this unnecessary agony and frustration to save yourself a few bucks: AVOID ABE's of MAIN.

It was nice speaking to you yesterday and hopes you are enjoying your new camera. Again I do apologize that you felt that a grey market camera was sent to you because there was no warranty card even though we guaranteed it to be USA, since we do not have grey market. Unfortunately sometimes after inspecting the camera the warranty might be left behind, but all our cameras are USA warranty unless other wise stated. They come with a serial number that would be matching with the USA manufacturer |

I just wanted to add my experience dealing with Abes for the first time. I had an absolutely effortless purchase with Abes. I ordered a large TV during Holy week, and even with the store being closed a few days, it made it here in perfect condition ahead of schedule. They didn't charge my card until it was shipped, I got an email giving me the tracking number that day, and the delivery company called me and set up a delivery time. Perfect, no hassles, everything happened as Abes said it would. I did get a call asking me to upgrade warranty and shipping, but I refused and they weren't terribly pushy. I was very cautious after reading the reviews, but they really did a perfect job with this order and I wanted to let people know of my experience. I order a lot of stuff online and Abes was great for me.

I ordered a Canon 28-135 EF lens for my XTi, When I called to place the order (dont like first time transactions on the net) I asked "is this item in stock" the salesman said yes. I ordered a filter and upgraded for next day shipment. I wanted to give it to my wife for her b-day. I got an order number and verified I would have it the next day.
later that day I tried to track the order on there website and kept getting no order found. So I called after being on hold for awhile the man tranfered me to Nathan who said the Item is not in stock so that is why the order didnt go thru. I told him that his website and his salesman both said it was in stock. the response was "may be it didnt update" I told him Its a b-day present so cancel the order I'll get something else. he put me on hold, when he came back amazingly they now had them. Right then and there I knew I was in for it. I told him will I have it tommorrow, he said looks like you paid for red label saturday shipping so it wont be a problem, I said no I paid for next day shipping not saturday. he said your all set and sent me back to Dan. he said okay thank you for calling. I then said whoa no one told me if I will have it tommorrow. he put me on hold and when he came back he said Nathan said it will go out today and we will e-mail you a tracking number this afternoon.
Guess what no e-mail, no tracking number, no lens next day. I sorta knew it from the beginning this was going to happen.
So the moral of the story is Abes of Maine has no problem outright lying to there customers!
Stay away from these people unless you want to get hoses and lied to. I was able to put a hold on my credit card so at least I didnt lose any money. I'm sure they would torture anyone to give back the money.

This is my second order with Abes and I have found them to be a good source. This time there was an issue with the inventory and one item was backordered but it arrived about 10 days the camera arrived. I will use them again; I appreciate their no pressure style of selling. They will make an offer for memory, filters, bag but one no and they move on. This is no different than I would expect from any salesperson.

After much web searching for a Canon S3 IS camera, I settled on Abes of Maine. I had previously talked with another etailer who had a much lower price but I couldn't get a straight answer from them as to why their price was so low! I ordered the camera from Abe's on a Tuesday in the morning, & got a call from them "verifying" the order in the afternoon. The salesman, Ted, mentioned that I may want filters and a larger memory card, after he verified my address, etc. I told him that I had all of those accessories from a previous camera and that was the end of our conversation, after he thanked me for my order. (I expect that any retailer, e- or not, will try and sell me something else, so this was not objectionable to me.) I had signed up for their "free shipping" that takes 7-10 business days, which was OK with me. My new Canon arrived 2 days after my initial contact with Abe's! It is brand new and a USA model with a full Canon warranty (not Grey market like some etailers) The package was well packed along with a thank you note and a certificate for $10 off of my next order with them. I will use them again.

Abe's of Maine has been fantastic. I ordered a new Fuji Digital camera. I appreciate the follow up e-mail and phone call for security. The order was quick and so was the shipping. On the phone with them was also just fine. Their staff was professional and helpful. Did they ask if I needed other products? Yes. I declined and that was the end of it. I don't know why others whine like this is some horrible thing. (Has anyone been into a McDonalds in the past 10 years?..Supersize...Hello!!)
My experience was: Another great purchase, nothing but complete confidence here.
