RUN AWAY!!! Do not even consider buying from this high- pressure, lying, deceitful, malicious sales outfit. 1. When you order online, they call you multiple times to attempt to coerce you to buy warranties and other accessories.
2. When you order by phone, they forcefully coerce you to buy warranties, etc. 3. When you ignore their calls and do not call back, they leave you phone messages that they will not send item, telling you that they need to confirm address before they will ship. 4. They tag on warranties to order forms without your approval. When you try to cancel, they will insult you and lie to you about not being able to cancel the policy "because it has been shipped" -What does this even mean?
Salesman, "GEORGE from Abes of Maine" is the most malicious person I have ever encountered in my 45 years of executing consumer transactions on the phone and online.
Warning: STAY AWAY!!!!=

I have left you several emails and left two voice messages asking if you can please call me so we can discuss what happened with George and if he had been high- pressure, lying, deceitful, I do apologize and guarantee you that this matter will be taken care of where it will not happen again .We absolutely do not allow any of our sales people to do anything of the above it is against our policy at Abe`s customer satisfaction is and will always be on our top agenda. Please give me a call at 1800-227-0400 ext 203 I would like to see how I can go about making you comfortable again in shopping with Abe`s .

I placed an online order on 9/12/09 at this store for a yamaha subwoofer. They charged $29.20 for shipping and handling and the website said that it would get to me in 6 to 9 days. Today, on the 18th I called them and they are saying that they sold out and are expecting a 2 week delay. I was reading reviews and read that this same thing had happened to a few people. One person even waited a month and then finally canceled his order. Will never order anything from them again.

These guys were very insistent that I write this review (I received two phone calls from Abe's asking me to write it), so here it is. The ordering went smoothly and shipping was timely. There's not much else to say, other than that the phone calls were very annoying.
UPDATE: Even though the only causes of my annoyance, and thus my bad review, were the phone calls (as is clearly stated in my review), I just got another call from someone at Abe's asking why I left the bad review. PLEASE STOP CALLING ME! This review was modified by its author, jessegil, on

I purchased the Panasonic DMC-ZS3 from Abe's online. I got a call the next day from someone trying to "confirm my information" but all they really did was try to pressure me into buying accessories (batteries, memory cards, carrying case, etc.). The representative was telling me that the most common complaint for my camera was low battery life and that he would give me a discount off the regular price because I was ordering the camera, when in reality it was the price that they sold it for online anyways. I was told that it would 'double' my battery life, but upon receiving both the camera and the second battery, some simple math showed me that I spent extra money for barely a 30% increase. The original battery is rated at 895 mAh and the 'double capacity' battery had only 1200 mAh and even had a higher voltage. Upon powering on my camera for the first time I notice something...dead pixel! I call up customer support and they tell me that in order to get it replaced, I must pay for insured shipping back to their facility, wait for processing, and then I would be sent another camera via the same shipping method that I had originally chosen. I ordered this camera while I was on vacation, and didn't want it to arrive home before I did, so I choose one of the slower shipping methods. If I were to ship it back overnight, I would still be waiting for 1.5+ weeks for processing and return shipping! I posted a somewhat critical, but accurate, review of the camera on their website (giving it 3/5 stars) and the review was confirmed. I checked back today, and now there are "no reviews listed under that e-mail address". It has been removed!
I will never be using Abe's of Maine to make another purchase again because:
-Pushy sales call to 'confirm' your order
-Blatant lies on behalf of the sales team
-Refusal to expedite an RMA by forcing me to use the same shipping method originally selected and their unwillingness to cross ship items
-Removed the review that I wrote, after they e-mailed me asking me to write one, from their website, leaving only the 5 star reviews on the product.
**UPDATE**
Abe's VP David V Mosseri has been trying to contact me for a few weeks via phone and e-mail. Even though I consistently send him to voicemail (it's too late to change my mind guys) I will give them credit for trying to make things better, after the fact. I was very excited about the prospect of buying the new Canon EOS T1i, but I wanted to talk to someone about the purchase and was not totally comfortable doing the transaction completely on the web. I was pleased when got Sheldon on the phone. He was very polite and informative. He was knowledgeable about the product and answered all my questions. It was a good experience for me and I will be sure to buy from Abes of Maine again.

The sale's person was very infomative. He was very patient and try to answer all the questions you have. I was recommended by another customer of this site. It proved this is a good and tusted place to order the stuff you need. The order arrived two days later and everything is fine. Thanks to the service! I will come back!

i had a great experience with Abe's and will definitely order from them again!
a little over a week ago i ordered the Nikon D90 - body only from Abe's. it was the cheapest price from a reputable seller. i was very concerned about keeping the transaction secure and not getting fooled or 'up-sold'. Abe's was fantastic! i ordered on 5/19 and the next morning i had an order confirmation email, then soon after, another confirmation email asking me to call them to verify the contents of my order.
having been warned from my sig other that this may happen (as it did in his experience also) i was prepared to handle the dreaded sales pitch. i called, he simply asked if i wanted to upgrade the free memory card- to which i said no, and if i would like to purchase the additional warranty for the camera. i told him no, and that i had everything i needed and was good to go. he did not try any harder to up-sell me. it was a very quick phone call that took less than 2 minutes. i received the D90 7 days later with no troubles. everything came new and as a US version as advertised.

I ordered a Sony a700 with 16-105mm lens and a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 lens. The price was excellent on both items. Phil was the salesman who took my order, he was very helpful and polite. He did ask if I wanted extra batteries, filters, warranties, ect. I did take and extra set of filters that were decently priced. I want to say that the total price made it possible to get as much camera and lens for the dollar as possible. All of the items are USA models ( very important ! ) I received my complete order in excellent condition in four days. I will buy from them again and I do recommend them if you are considering purchasing something from them I think that you can rest assured that you will get what you order.

Both Amazon & B&H was out of the camera I wanted to order Nikon D90 & 18-200 mm len. Against my best judgement I ordered the product from Abes of Maine website which I have never ordered before. The next day I receive a call to verifty my order. Normally I do not get these types of call when I order products on line however the person from Abe’s told me they are verifty to prevent fraud. After confirmation of my address details, sales person started to up sell, extra battery indicating the battery that comes with the camera only last 15 min., lens protector, polarizers, 4 year extened warranty, additional memory card, adding closer to $200 to my initial purchase. No matter how much I tried to decline the sales person insisted that I purchase items & he started negotiating price of the products, by lowering by $50 & by another $100. After relentles refusal he still insists on purchasing these extra items. I use the web to order product so I can avoid sales people trying to upsell warranties, cables, bags, etc: I was very disappointed of the customer service I received.
My order was shipped to me via UPS to my home address. Normally I call UPS to have it shipped to my work however UPS would not allow it as it has as stipulation with Abe’s of Maine not to change shipping address. I had to call their customer sevice to get it to change it to my work address however they declined to change my address. The only thing they could do is to hold at the UPS hub until I pick it up. I had to take off work early an additional 18 miles so I could pick up the camera.
Finally I picked up my order. In the invoice they have charged me extra $129 and have included a third party extra warranty I didn’t want. At this point I didn’t care as I was excited to recieve the camera. When I open the D90 Box I noticed there’an empty space in the box as something has been removed. I quickly youtube to find out what’s missing. The box said Nikon D90 kit camera with a lens 18mm-135mm. I didn’t order this product. There’s my seperate lens of 18mm-200mm in the same box but it was stranged to see that Nikon doesn’t produce a box for D90 body. After doing my research I found out indeed you do sell a D90 body in a seperate box.
I was disppointed I decided to dispute the extra charge with my credit card provider. While I was doing my research I also noticed the camera box & the lens box had extensive wear & tear. After few days of absorbing all this information I called the customer service to return the product. It is not easy to return products to this company. Customer service transfered to sales person who tried to convince me to take $50 off their extended warranty. I was extremly dispointed. I had to call my AmEx to dispute the charge as it was already charged. After a about a week I recieved a call from customer service asking me if I want to return the product as I was ready to return it ASAP. I packed every thing back and shipped the entire order via UPS at my cost back to the Abe’s Maine.
I will keep my D 80 for now but I will look elsewhere to purchase my D90 & a lens. Just to let you know the battery that came with my D-80 ( now 2 years old )can last at least 1000 over shots using RAW. That's about a day's worth of shooting. Please do not deceit customers. it's wrong!
I finally got my refund May 12 back to my credit card. This is the last time I am ordering anything from them again.

Stay away from Abe's of Maine. This company should be investigated for fraud. They are a bait-and-switch company. They wrote me to call them about my order. When I called, they started selling me these accessories for the camera I ordered. I told them "No, thanks." The customer rep was very rude. He's named Jack (or Jerk). I called them 2 hours later when I realized they're not a reputable company, so I can cancel my order. I talked to Jack, who told me that he will cancel the order. And guess what, 2 hours later, I received an email telling me that my order has just shipped. I have yet to receive my order. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!

I will NEVER buy from Abes of Maine again!!!! We should have read all the negative reviews and taken them seriously! We ordered a 60" Pioneer plasma tv 2 weeks ago. We inspected the tv when it arrived and everything appeared ok. We set it up and it ran well for an hour. After that, 2 colored bars are displayed on the screen. We called Abes of Maine, they asked us to email a picture of the problem. We did it the same day. One week later, NOTHING has been done to correct the problem. We are told to go to a local service center, the local service center states that they are not an authorized dealer of Pioneer so the services aren't covered. All we get is the run around from the customer service department. I deeply regret ever going to this company and they should be investigated for fraud.

Ordered Canon SD880IS Digital Camera from Abes of Maine. Camera box came in very bad condition, box was clearly not taken care of in their stores. One corner was completely crumpled and the box is deformed.
Prior to shipping out my camera, I got a call from their guys with the bs "i'd like to confirm your order" NOBODY DOES THIS for a $200 camera. They just tried to sell me batteries and warranties. Such a waste of my time and possible delay in shipping my camera if I wasn't able to get to the phone to pick up.
AbesofMaine needs to fix this. I won't be buying from them again.

Good afternoon,
It was a pleasure in speaking with you and apologize again that you were unhappy with the packaging of the Sony camera. As agreed you were to refuse that camera and at the same time I was sending you another one to you so you will not wait.
Maybe you can help me out, I sent you a brand new camera factory fresh and now you are claiming that it does not have a seal from Sony and it was used. Eventhough this unit does not have a Sony seal it does not mean it is used we absolutley carry only brand new factory packed.
We do not get the camera direct from Sony but from authorized dealers, so you were covered warranty and all plus factory fresh.
Please free to call me again 1800-227-0400 ext 203 David |
