I ordered a logitech squeezebox boom from thenerds.com on 4/27/2009.
On 5/7/2009 i hadnt received the product yet, so I called the customer service to inquire, they said that they will call me back.
I received an email 20 mins later that the item is on back order so my order is canceled, I went to their website and it showed that the product is in stock and ready to ship, I also called their sales and they said its in stock and they were ready to charge me and ship it.
So I called the customer service again they mentioned that its not in stock, when I explained that the website and sales dept say that its available they said that now its sells for 50$ more and they are willing to sell it to me for 280 instead of original 230.
These people didnt honor their sales and canceled my order and were willing to sell it to me at a higher price, I will never shop with them again, I assume they dont care.

The worst company ever. When I ordered my camera, the site said there were 10 in stock. I was supposed to have shipping info within 2 days. I waited a week, and got no updated shipping info. I called the company to see what was going. Waited on hold for 20 minutes while the rep was trying to find out where the camera was, then got hung up on. Called again and waited another 15 minutes to find out that I was charged $420 for a camera they don't have and that they aren't planning on restocking. Lovely. So when were they going to tell me and give me a refund!! These people are crooks. STAY AWAY!!! This review was modified by its author, syp0768, on

TheNerds.net cancelled my order on 4/1/09 stating that the product was out of stock. This caused me real inconvenience and they should have notified me of this at the time of placing the order and not three days later. I have still not received a refund on my credit card and will not be using or recommending TheNerds.net ever again, bad first time experience dealing with this company.

I order a gps and memory card from the nerds. I paid for 2 day air and they shipped the gps ground and they never shipped the card. I cancelled my order, when I talked to the manager of cust service he informed me that he would have to wait until they recieved the gps back to credit my card back, including the cost of the memory card that was never shipped. He informed me that he could do anything he wanted; give me $10,000 or just give me a free gps! But he would not refund the cost of the never shipped memory card and the gps that he had stopped delivery of. Very rude company to deal with. 13 days after the order the refund has not hit my credit card. I now have to go thru the process of disputing the charge with my CC company. NEVER ORDER from the nerds.

ok....here it is. My first time ordering from The Nerds. I placed the order, because they had the lowest price on the item that I wanted to purchase. This was advertised as a new item (tv stand). It arrived when I was away at work, so it was left at the house. When I got home and looked at the box it arrived in, I thought uh oh, the box was in tatters. So, I nervously opened the box. It was no surprise, when I found the contents damaged. One of the three glass shelves was badly scratched, but not broken or chipped. The big problem is the back support of the unit, which is MDF, it is cracked in two places. I can't take a chance placing an expensive tv, and stereo equipment on this stand. I am not even sure that it will fit together considering the damage.
So here's the thing, I am in the process of contacting The Nerds, for their response.
I expect them to replace the unusable part of the stand without a charge. I will let everybody know if The Nerds stand behind their products....... stay tuned.

This company still seems to be getting their business in order. I almost did not receive my package because of a failure of communication on TheNerds' part. They gave me a bogus tracking number according to FedEx, the shipper they told me they used. Turns out, they used Saia instead and just misled me. When Saia contacted me, they could tell me nothing about what they were delivering or from who other than "computer parts" from "Ingram Micro", for which I assured them they were mistaken. It was only because I agreed to meet the driver and visually inspect the package before accepting it that I found out it was my Nerds order (a 50lb box containing component shelves). I will have to take a long hard look at this company's development before I consider buying from them again. This review was modified by its author, Archeagus, on

I ordered Belkin retractable USB 2.0 cables that were listed for $3.99 each on The Nerds website. A picture of the cables was shown so I figured I didn't need to read the description, after all a picture is worth a thousand words, right? Wrong!
The package arrived today, and regular 3 ft. USB cables were enclosed. I quickly called The Nerds to report the error and was on hold for twenty minutes until Eric a customer service rep. answered, and basically told me that I should've read the description and that they aren't responsible for pictures on their website.
He quoted me an additional $5 or so for each retractable cable. When I balked and said that I wanted them for the price that was shown he said he couldn't do that.
He then said he would send me a mailing label to send the package back, and put me on hold again, and then cut me off. It's now almost a day later and no return call or even an e-mail to say sorry we cut you off or let's try to rectify this situation. This whole experience shows me that The Nerds are pretty complacent about good customer service and they don't give a rat's behind about keeping customers.
The Nerds is guilty of Bait and Switch in my opinion. This is my first and last time ordering from them.

I'm in the same boat with all the others that suffered due to their bait and switch on the battery deal. I order the 72 9v batteries and received 12. When I inquired about this they said and error was made and they would send return instructions. A couple days later I reminded them that I was waiting for the return instructions. They then sent an RMA number but no pre-paid label for shipping. I emailed them telling them that they had obviously discovered the problem prior to shipping since the invoice in the box had a different description than my email confirmation. They also want me to ship to Florida instead of Utah where the package came from. This is a racket and I'm very dissatisfied and upset. I will NOT ever buy from them again.

I ordered 144 AA and AAA batteries from thenerds.net. I received only 24 batteries. I sent an email and received no reply. I called and was on hold for 30 minutes before a rep answered and said there was an error on the site. If there was an error, why not just cancel my order and inform me? Instead they shipped something that I did not order. They said they would refund my purchase but would NOT pay for shipping. So that means I get to pay 8 dollars for their mistake. It was my first and last order from this site.

Beware - deceptive part descriptions. They listed: 1 DURMN1500BKD DURACELL/BATTERY,COPPERTOP,AA,144
Anyone would see that as 144 batteries - there was no quantity listed on the web page. But they shipped 24. They offered RMA, but the cost of shipping is prohibitive. I should mention that they charged $9.99 for shipping which indicates that they may have based this on the weight of 144 batteries but that they may have later decided that they would substitute the 24 pack.

On 12/10/2008 I placed an order for 144 AAA Duracell Procell batteries from TheNerds.net for a total of $15.98 including shipping. The item description was “BATTERY,ALK,PROCELL,AAA,144”. I received my shipment on 12/11/2008, but it only consisted of 24 AAA Duracell Procell batteries. The item description had been changed to “BATTERY,PROCELL,AAA,24/BX” on the enclosed packing slip.
On 12/12/2008, I called TheNerds.net Customer Service at 888-566-6373 and spoke to Eric at ext 120. I told him of the quantity discrepancy. Eric informed me that they knew they had a discrepancy with the quantities and attempted to cancel the orders before they shipped. Unfortunately, some of the orders were not caught in time and were shipped. Eric told me to check my email for return instructions. I asked him about a return shipping label, and he told me that the return email would have complete instructions.
I received the RMA email a few moments later, but there was no return shipping label. In fact, the RMA email stated “All returns must be shipped freight pre-paid.” I called Eric back and told him that I would not pay for the return shipping charges as this was their error. I told him that TheNerds.net should be responsible for the return shipping charges in this instance due to their error. He told me that they would not pay the return shipping charges. I told him that I would dispute the charge with PayPal and he told me “Fine.”
TheNerds.net exhibited poor and deceptive business practices in this instance. This appears to be a “bait and switch” tactic – I ordered 144 batteries as described on their site, and then they changed the description / quantity and only shipped 24 batteries. If it was a simple error as Eric first told me, then TheNerds.net should have just emailed me a prepaid return shipping label, and refunded my purchase price.

As an addendum to the review below, it turns out that the 2nd item that I had ordered from thenerds.net, which they told me they cancelled all orders for that item, was actually cancelled for delivery, but they still charged my credit card. So, there are two issues. One was the combination of false advertizing, horrid business practices, and speaking to customers in a very nasty and demeaning manner; the second is that they charge for merchandise which they choose not to deliver.
My credit card company did take the charges off my credit card for thenerds.net, and the Better Business Bureau is investigating--although I don't understand how my claim can negatively impact their current rating of "F."
Original complaint:
I just filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau against thenerds.net.
Here are the specifics of my interaction with thenerds.net over the past few days. I agree with other threads in this forum that they are guilty of misleading advertising and deceptive business practices, and that they are downright nasty and demeaning to speak with over the phone. I would caution everyone to avoid them regardless of how good an offer looks, because it will probably be false, and it will cost you more than you bargained for.
On thenerds.net website on December 10, 2008, they advertized a product, MN1500BKD DURACELL BATTERY,COPPERTOP,AA,144 for $21.99 plus $9.99 shipping and handling. A box was delivered the next day, 12/11 containing a box of 24 of these batteries, not 144. Please note that these batteries are sold in 144-packs. I called thenerds.net as soon as they opened and spoke with the Customer Service Supervisor (Eric) and later called again and spoke with the person to whom he reports (Robbie). They said that they would refund the purchase price if I paid the shipping cost back to them. Their stance is that although the description of the product said BATTERY,COPPERTOP,AAA,144, it never said 144 quantity. Yesterday 12/11/2008, thenerds.net changed the website product description from showing 144 to show 24, not 24 quantity, and today, 12/12 they removed the product from their website altogether. I can walk into a Target store and purchase a 24 pack of the extended life of this brand’s batteries for ½ the price that thenerds.net charged for what they shipped, but thenerds.net feels justified in their deceptive business practice. I would like the product that was advertised for the price it was advertised. Since that will most likely not happen, I do not want to pay shipping charges on a product that was the result of a deceptive business practice and that I do not want for an exorbitant price. I ordered a $200 item and was pleasantly surprised when I was notified that it would be delivered via FedEx in 5 days. NOT! FedEx told me that although it received an electronic notification, it never got the item. Nerds.net would not answer my emails. Spoke to Customer support three times by phone and each time was assured everything would be quickly resolved. NOT! Now every time I call them, my phone call is cut off. I've initiated a PayPal dispute and got my credit card company to suspend their charge. This order has been a nightmare.

I have ordered numerous items from TheNerds and had been very satisfied until now. I ordered an upgrade copy of Diskeeper 2008 Server in order to upgrade my version 8 software. When the package arrived, it had a sticker on the front of the CD case indicating the upgrade only worked with version 10 or later. I did not break the seal on the package and immediately contacted TheNerds. Seems there is no return on software regardless of the reason and they suggested I contact the manufacture. Diskeeper was very cooperative but unable to do anything for me since I had not bought it from them.
I have spent a couple of thousand with them over time and I sure won't deal with them again. My word of warning here is to check their return policy on anything you consider buying from them. There is a long list of products that they will not accept back even if it arrives DOA.
