Ordered on line since the items were shown to be in stock. Received confirmation of the order but showed items were on back order. After more than three weeks waiting, I e-mailed only to find out that the items were discontinued so the order was cancelled.
This was the second time that this company did this to me. The first time I waited over a month and only found out that the items were discontinued and the order cancelled when I called to inquire.
Will not shop with them again.

Offer was advertised, I ordered on line - no flags given. Two days later, I was emailed to be notified that one item was on backorder. After _I_ dug into it, they let me know that I would be charged for shipping (no free shipping because the ran out of stock on the backorder item). IMHO, this stinks. I went ahead and canceled the entire order. I will stay away from OfficeMax, as they have been a real bother, for me. This review was modified by its author, purdyd_math, on

I've had two experiences with this store, and both were excellent.
The first purchase was shortly after the new year, and was for an APC Back-UPS which was advertised on the website as being on sale for $15 less than the usual price.
I called before heading out to make sure the physical store would honor the online price, and not only was I assured they would, but the sales associate took my name and held one for me since they were low on stock.
Very nice.
My more recent transaction was for an office chair.
They had many, many models available, and the associate dealing with us stayed around to answer any questions, but also did a great job of "disappearing into the background" as we looked each chair over- was not pressuring us in any way, trying to hurry us, but was always ready with an answer to a question.
I'll grant that business was slow during our visit, but this kind of helpfulness will keep me coming back.

Purchased Norton Antivirus from this company based on a rebate deal they advertised. I complied with all rebate rules and copied all items I sent. They denied the rebate. Doing a search on the internet yielded several instances of this happening with Office Max. The Ohio Attorney General is filing suit against them as well as other states. I will be sending my information to the Ohio Attorney General to add to their case. This is ridiculous.

On 11/26/2004 [Black Friday]I purchased several items at Office Max.
The items I purchased all had rebate offers associated with them. 11 of them to be exact.
I checked my status online a few weeks after submitting them on 11/27. No record was found.
I emailed customer support and they stated that my rebates must have been lost in the mail and that I need to fax them. [All 11 were mailed individually and lost and they were being mailed to 4 different address']
I checked the status again about a week after faxing them in. Still no record. I went through this process 3 different times of emails and faxing.
On 12/22/2004 I called and spoke to a supervisor for at least 45 minutes. I say for 45 minutes as I am not completely sure how long but it was much closer to 2 hours than 45 minutes. During the call I again fax everything upon his request.
He could not find any record of them ever being submitted and went over the promotion numbers time and time again so he could submit them himself.
He wasn't the most effecient but was working towards a remedy of my situation.
Towards the end of the call and after he had submitted them all, checked them over and over, he located 4 or 5 of my rebates that was in the system. He stated they were no longer valid as he had just re-submitted them which voided any others before them. I was assured that there would not be any more problems regarding the 11 rebates.
A few weeks later I started receiving denials in the mail stating there was not a UPC code attatched.
I once again called customer support and they asked for the promotion numbers. They have record of one rebate and validate one other(which means it is just being submitted on 01/0/2004)Each inquiry takes her about 5 minutes. She doesn't find any other rebates on record and states I must fax them...again. The rep stated there isn't any supervisors available as she is the only person there. I ask her to look up the numbers individually and by my personal info.
After the first one she disconnects the call without saying a word, reall childish and sneaky. I called back waited for over an hour for my call "to be answered in the order it was received."
Office Max should be named Fraud Max.

Really a shame. I've ordered from OfficeMax numerous times and have never been disappointed, until now.
Apparently, they've decided that certain low-margin, heavier-weight items aren't worth delivering for free. Thus, they've made these items "unavailable for delivery in your area". Of course I was instructed to call some toll-free number to see if there was "availability for pickup at a nearby store" BUT, if I wanted to pick up the stuff, I could go to Wal-Mart or Costco and, in all likelihood, pay less. Bad move, OfficeMax.
Further, their definition on "In-Stock" varies dramatically from mine. Two items I tried to order were "In-Stock" but had an expected delivery date of 1/05! I mean, that's over 2 weeks.
Forget it! These people just lost my business......forever.

I placed an order on December 9 and their server assured me the product was in stock and would be delivered by December 15. On December 16, the order status still showed an expected delivery date "BEING DELIVERED BY 12/15/2004", even as it informed me that it had not shipped yet. I called Office Max and they informed me that the product was discontinued and that I probably would be notified soon of this. It is now too late to order elsewhere and get delivery in time for christmas.

I attempted to purchase toner for my printer on www.officemax.com. They said it would be delivered on 30 November 2004. It was not. I called. They said it was coming from the vendor and to give it another day. I called back on 2 December. They had me cancel and reorder the toner for next day delivery. It was not delivered. I waited until Monday, 6 December. It was not delivered. I called them, and they said it was placed on backorder and it would be a 10-14 day wait. They never sent email, or any kind of notice that the toner was going to be on back order.
The notice in Officemax said "Ink and toner always in stock for next day delivery or a 20% discount." They never offered the 20% discount. Office Max is guilty of False Advertising.
I had to end up canceling the order and going someplace esle. I am not happy with Office Max.

Purchased an item from the store, which claimed to have a rebate attached to it. 3-1/2 months later, I'm still waiting for the rebate, which is perpetually in "processing mode" and will always be mailed out "within 7 to 10 days" according to the Parago customer reps. Will never buy from OfficeMax again.

This store SUCKS for rebates. I sent my rebate to them in JUNE, 2004 and I'm still waiting for it in Dec, 2004. When I inquire about it I just get the same standard reply:
Thank you for your rebate inquiry. We apologize for the inconvenience. We are pleased to inform you that your submission has been received, and it is in the final stages of validation. Validation should be complete in the next week. You should then receive your rebate per the terms and conditions listed on the coupon. Note that the check is remitted in the form of a postcard and will not arrive in an envelope.
"We appreciate your participation in this promotion. If there is anything else we can do to assist you, please contact us at maxmyrebates@maxmyrebates.com. We are always happy to help. You can also track the status of your rebate, using the Rebate ID above, at www.maxmyrebates.com.

Promotions Customer Service"
But my rebate was validated on July 29 but no check as of yet!

So if you think you are getting a great deal from OfficeMax you are seriously WRONG!

Says in stock, will deliver by 11/8/04 when placing the order. Waited for one week. No emails. Nothing. Called to ask and they told me it was out of stock and cancelled. I didn't
even get a Sorry! Don't know when they will contact me if I didn't call. This is the 2nd time they pissed me off. Exactly the same thing happened a while ago. I don't think I will ever buy anything from OM again!

Purchase a Pacific Digital DVD+/- writer during one of OM's advertised specials. The receipt said it was to be delivery 3 business days later.
After 5 business days it still has not shown up. When I called customer service the CSR said the item is probably back ordered or discontinued.
The next day, I got an email from the distribution center that the item is discontinued and my order was cancelled. By this time, the advertise special on this DVD writer is gone and the price has gone back to $150 (incl tax) vs the sale price ~$90 - $50Rebate.
I called customer service again and twice I was told the item is discontinued in my area and there's none left according to her computer.
While on hold, I logged on to officemax.com and was able to order the same item. And it was schedule to delivery for the next day. I told the CSR about this, and she said someone must have just returned an item and she now see one item in my area. What a coincident!
I told the CSR that I made the order just to make a point and now I want to cancel this new order. She then told me the order has not shown up in her system and I need to called back 15 minutes later. I called back 20 minutes and ask the next CSR to cancel my order. He said it's done. Come the next day, I got a call from an OM rep saying that it was too late, the item was already shipped and I have to refuse delivery if I don't want it.
Thinking that since I wanted the DVD writer anyway, I called back OM and ask the CSR if they could honor my original order price since discontinued item is magically available the same day that my order was cancelled. No cigar, CSR talked to her manager and said the new order is the new price. No way to honor the old price.
I ended up refusing delivery on the item which took about 6 business day to get my credit back. To this day, this discontinued item is continued to be selling on officemax's web site.
This experience has really left a very bad taste in my mouth for this vendor. I would think really hard before considering shopping at OfficeMax.com again.
Lesson learned here is probably that if there's a really good sale, you should probably go the the B&M store to pick up the item physically.

Great company to buy from. The shipping took a while though. I would have liked to have gotten my merchandise sooner. Can't complain too much since I got free shipping.

Bought a Tungsten E on monday, got it on tuesday. Suffice to say I was very surprised; I was wondering if I would get a tracking number by the time the UPS guy came. Fastest shipping I've ever experienced, even from companies based around here (Bay Area). Everything went without a hitch, and the product came with no defects. Consider very carefully when purchasing any "free after rebate" with Officemax
Chances are you will never get it. I have fallen for the situation twice now on KHypermedia products. I hold OfficeMax responsible because the are offering the product.
The reply you will get will be "url was not included in the rebate you submitted" or something very similar.
I am finished dealing with OfficeMax.
