I ordered several boxes of nice pens. They arrived, surprisingly, the next day. The package used to ship them was a loose bag, so the boxes were a bit crushed and some of the pens fell out of their boxes and were at the bottom of the bag. No biggie, especially since shipping was free for larger orders and there was no damage to the pens themselves. Also, no tracking info is made available.

It's the WORST customer service that I ever experienced so far.

I placed an order on 5/19 for a Sony laptop from Officemax.com. After waiting for 3 days with no shipment info, I called on 5/22 to check the status. The CSR told me that the order is being put on hold because my shipping address is not the same as my billing address. She transferred me to credit services, Sylvia. She claimed that she left me a message on 20th; which I never receive, but it could be my phone error or something. I asked if I can get it expedited since I need it this weekend and she said she can't. I asked to speak with a supervisor and there is no supervisor available until Tuesday. Ok, so I ended the phone thinking everyhing is fine now after confirming my shipping address with her.
When I got home from work around 7pm I got a voicemail from Sylvia and she said to call OM back. And of course, OM credit services is closed by that time and the regular csr wanted me to call back on Monday. At this point, the csr said the order is still pending and he didn't know why since it's being hold by credit services and I can called back Monday to find out. So I decided to just cancel the order. And the csr just said ok right away without trying to solve or help me with the issue. I guess my $ 880 purchase is not big enough for Office Max.
I never had this much problem ordering from a big or small online store by having shipping address different than billing address. And I did the verified by Visa too, so I don't know how much more confirmation that they need.
Oh yeah, I also ask the csr for corporate number and he said to just go to OM website and search. The CSRs are not very helpful, worst customer service ever.

UPDATE:
After cancelling the order and get confirmation #, an email came a day after (5/23). It said that I can't cancel because the laptop is already shipped out. I thought the credit services need more information????
I called back this morning, 5/26. and the csr (Yasmin) said that apparently the product was already in the shipping process when he tried to cancel last Friday, so that confirmation # that he gave me is not really a confirmation # of cancellation, only for that call.
I asked him how did the credit services get the additional information that was needed. Of course, he didn't know and wanted to transfer me to that dept.
I'm tired and I just asked to being transfer to a supervisor (Lydia). She's definetly a better person to talk to (no high tone). She told me to just refuse the shipment, or sending it back to OM since it's already out.

I have to call OM again once I receive the shipment to arrange the return. I'm done buying at OM. I should have read all the negative review here before placing an order.

But if you guys want to ship it to the same address as your billing, I hope you don't have this many problem.

Office Max is the king of the bait and switch. This time however is the final straw. I bought a LCD monitor on 4/29 and then after a week of waiting for a shipping confirmation I get an email saying that there was a typographical error on there website and they are canceling my order. Of course for that week I passed on other similar deals that are no longer available. The money I paid for the monitor is still held hostage by them, as I am waiting for a refund.

I can't really complain too much about Office Max, it was my first time buying from them online. All the local stores near me have either gone out of business or have become Staples.

I ordered a Dymo label printer, and they had the best price online by about $40. With the free shipping I couldn't lose.

I received my order within two business days. To be fair, I must be located close to the distribution center so that's why I got it quickly.

My only qualm is that I never received a shipping email, and I was not able to get shipping information online. If they had a great price on something in the future, I'd buy from them again.

placed My order for computer on Feb 22nd, and it was supposed to be shipped in 1 -3 Days. After not getting any response,
Called them on 25th Feb they put me on hold for 6-7 min and they verified with my Back and confirmed every thing is OK and it will be shipped. On 25th Feb I got an email that my order was canceled due to non availability. And have to pay $200 more for the same thing. My point is it was not my fault that it was not shipped on time so why should I pay $200 out of my pocket.

I ordered through office max and bought my hp laptop. I would like to inform everyone that this is the worst customer service that i have ever gone through. This has happened to me twice through this company. I have gone through the hassle of trying to get my laptop off back order (out of stock and they are ordering more) for the past 10 days. I have been lied to by the customer service 3 times now. The first one told me what their website said "it will be their in 1-3 days. The second one told me that it was on backorder and that "it will take 15-30 days to get. An hour later i recieved an email that it was being shipped "from another warehouse and will arive in 5-7 days from the purchase date". When i call again, i am told that it will take 7-10 days. So finally when i called today, i am told it is cancelled because they are all gone. This is a complete waste of time. Do not order from them. I will EVER go through this company again an do not recomend anyone else does either

The best thing to do is NOT to buy a HP printer, especially if you are not sure what brand to get. You will save yourself of alot of trouble.
I ordered a HP printer from Office Max. The printer did arrive in a new box, however, when I tryed to use it, the display kept saying ...door open... (but the printer door was closed).
HP promsed the replacement would be delivery before 1 Jan 2009. However, It did not arrive until after the 6th. Too late, I returned the previous model. And the replacement as well.
HP support call waiting time is 25 minutes per call and that one was short because I hung up inbetween reps waiting for a refund confirmation.
HP support could not troubleshoot the door problem over the phone. It took 3 no-where calls, each 45 minutes each, constant transfers.
Guess at another, more expense brand. You may come out cheaper. Thank You for reading.

I ordered a laptop on 12/29/2008 with intel centrino Core 2 Duo processor, I waited for a long time and finally the laptop arrived on 01/12/2009, I never received a confirmation about the order and I kept on checking the status Online, still even after the order is arrived the order status shows it is pending.
But the worst part is I received the one with AMD processor, I called up customer service immediately to check if that was a mistake, the service rep told that they sent a substitute since the one I ordered is out of stock, and she told that substitute has been sent after talking with me. No one has talked with me or my family members about the substitute, so it was a lie. I didn't want to waste my time arguing since I anyway wanted to return it, the service rep told that I can return the product in store, so I went to the store to return it but they mentioned that Online purchased items cannot be returned in store, I talked with store manager and everyone but could not return it, I really got frustrated since it means the officemax online and store are not same entities, the main reason I purchased from officemax.com is that I have a local store and I can service/return in case of any problems, but this is really cheating since online and store operate as different entities.
I called up customer service again, this time the rep was very bad he didn't even have courtesy of saying sorry even though they made mistake and I had to suffer. He issued a replacement order, I requested to talk with supervisor, he mentioned sorry and told that it is their policy to send substitue if ordered product is not available, we can keep if we like otherwise we can return, in brief following are the facts:
1) Online purchased products from Officemax.com can not be returned in officemax stores, you have to call customer service again for returning it.
2) They can send substitute product when the ordered product is not available without our consent, and then it is our problem to call and return the product. Until it is returned our money is on hold for an unwanted item.
3) No tracking, you will not know when the order will arrive, so you may have to call customer service couple of times and then one day it will arrive surprrisely, if you are at home that day then you can take otherwise again your problem to pick it.

Ordered a color laser printer (Brother HL-4040CN) on closeout for 50% off plus free shipping on December 31st. Received it on January 5th, pretty quick considering the holiday and weekend. The order status was never updated on the website and I never received a tracking number, but I did receive the correct item in good condition so I can't complain too much.

I ordered the color laser Samsung CLP-315 from Office Max a week and a half ago and received it today. The delayed delivery time for my shipment was expected since there was a backorder on my item; however, Office Max did not do a spectacular job at updating the status of my order on its website at all. Even with my printer in my hands now, the order status for it on the Office Max site is still pending.

It does have very nice customer service representatives, but the company could serve people better by providing more accurate updates of when an order will or will not be shipped.

I also had ordered a wireless headset from the store as well, but it never came with the printer. Fortunately, I only paid a penny for it since there was a promotional offer, and it's just not worth my time to second-guess when I will be receiving it anymore.

Somewhat satisfied. I've had to change my previously negative review. I placed an order for a digital camera on 5/20 with a debit card. The transaction did not show up in online banking until that weekend. The camera finally arrived on 5/28 in perfect condition. To be fair, it did across the entire U.S., but still.

Normally, this would be fine, albeit somewhat slow. Unfortunately, Office Max's order update website is terrible. Do not use it. It said my camera was discontinued and that my order was "pending" and "processing." Instead, call the support line. I was treated courteously both times I called and only had to wait about five minutes to get an associate.

Verdict: low price might be worth the risk, but be careful, call the support line, and be prepared to wait for longer-than-expected processing.

Extremely poor customer service.

Just listen how rude this manager at Office Max talks to a customer:
http://www.zshare.net/audio/7847961d48b5fd/

There was an ad on Office Max website with a $150 off "in-store only" coupon for a particular hard drive. That made me get up and head to the store early in the morning. I should have known a Bait & Switch was coming; first a moody lady manager wouldn't accept it -- with no valid excuse. I asked calmly, and yet, she got irritated because I was being persistent about it (who wouldn't? -- especially when I go to the store on a raining morning). Her employees were just as confused with me why the manager would not accept the coupon. The coupon had a code to enter on their cashier register, but they didn't even bother to try it out. The manager was basically avoiding me, so I asked one of the employees, who I saw having a word with the manager prior, to give me a reason. The excuse the employee came up with was, "It's a copy, so we can't accept it". That made me laugh because it's from their official website, so how else are you going to bring it without printing it? It actually gets better. He then gave an excuse that I had to use the coupon online when the coupon clearly says "In-store only". At this point, he ran out of excuses. The manager then comes over and tells me, in a rude tone, to stop "picking on" her employee. Clearly she was irritated because I was not one of those customers that give-in easily to their deceptive tactics. She then tells me to wait TWO HOURS for the next manager to arrive and to take it up with him instead if I really wanted to buy it. I left the store obviously frustrated, but believe it or not, I decided to call the store two hours later. And the manager that I talked with on the phone, Darell Williams, was just as worse (no wonder the previous moody lady manager told me to take it up with him); I explained my situation, but he started telling me off that I was "one of those people that try to find deals". So what if that is the case? Office Max only allows overpriced transactions? Extremely rude, unprofessional tone the whole time -- he really could not control his temper -- and he just hung up on me while I was still talking. When I tried calling back, he would either hang up again or put me on hold. He even basically threatened me to face him directly at the store. Worst customer service experience I've ever had.

Office Max also has this ink recycling program where each ink that you bring in takes $3 off the transaction, with a maximum of 5 per transaction ($15). I do not see any restriction on that policy that states that a ink "discount" cannot be used on sale items; however, the managers at Office Max gave me a hard time about that. They say the ink "discounts" are like "coupons" (the manager was just full of BS) and thus, not combinable with sale items. Unbelievable. It's like saying you can't use gift card/store credit on saled items. What's even more ridiculous is the manager said he would allow me to use the ink discount on an overpriced cabinet that cost $100 "on sale", when I was trying to use the ink discount on a DVD disc.

I called Office Max Corporate and the lady who I spoke with confirmed they had no restriction on the ink recycling. However, I couldn't believe what she said next: she says, "Each store has their own discretion and can basically do whatever they want." What?! Isn't that nice to hear? So if a manager didn't want to sell me an item, just because he wanted to keep it for himself, he can do that? Calling corporate was no help either.

It was false advertising bait and switch tactic, and the managers try to change wording on policies because I'm sure they don't make much profit selling pens and pencils. But that's their problem.

You could say I'm traumatized by all this; I'm never going to an Office Max store and I can't even stand hearing the name.
